Canvas view is pixelated

I am learning FCE. When I bring in a video into the viewer, it looks good. I drag it into the time line and want to view it in the Canvas viewer and it is pixelated. What to I need to do to change that?
Still pictures that I have imported look fine.

2 years ago I bought this Mac and FCE with the intent on using it for video editing. I beat my head for a few months and bailed out and went back to the PC and Sony Vegas. I could no longer handle the fussyness of video not being in the "right format". At that time I was frustrated with the need for constant rendering whenever I edited a clip.
I thought I could give this another try but this is reminding me why I left FCE. Thanks for trying to help me. I love the Mac but the video editing is not very user friendly.

these stacked canvas view put on the content canvas.it dispalying and
    executed succesfully.
here i am getting one problem i am displying the 10 records at a time in both canvases.my requirment is placed on the
cursor on the content canvas particular record scroll down then automatically show the same record details in stacked canvas and
content canvas scroll bar is changed automatically stacked canvas scroll bar is changed.
    any one help me.........

{quotei create a two data block's with same table.
    one data block for content canvas and one for stacked canvas.{quote}
This is not necessary. Just create one data block and then assign the block items to your Content and Stacked canvases. You can display items in a data block on different canvases. By doing this, there is no need to write code to synchronize the records because they are part of the same data block so they will automatically scroll as you navigate through your records.

  • Problem with my Canvas Viewer

Never had this problem before in over 8 years of Final cut editing...
No images appear in my canvas viewer when I am editing! The canvas viewer is there, but no images appear when the playback is idol.
Obviously this is pain in the neck if I want to position images, crop images, layer images on top of each other, etc.
However, when I press "play", the playback in the canvas viewer works fine. I can watch everything that is in the timeline just fine. But once I stop the player, whichever point I stop at, that image is frozen there, until I press play again. Even when I click a new point on the timeline, the frozen image does not change.
I just spent half a day clearing out my hard-drive. The Ram disc space says it's okay. And I even ran a disk utility check.
    *** FCP!
Any suggestions? Anyone ever have this problem?

Hi - Make sure the Canvas is set to display RGB:

  • Does FCE have a full monitor canvas view prior to rendering?

    Hi,
I want to see a large screen view instead of the small canvas view. Can I blow up the canvas view to a large size, like as big as my mac monitor?
    Thanks,
    humbucker

    Hi(Bonjour)!
Yes you can use the VIEW-->video out-->digital cinema desktop preview command and monitor on your mac screen(sometimes you need to use the refresh video device command to gain access to digital desktop. Displaying +standard def miniDV+ on a mac screen may display bad quality as standard def in small frame dimension.
    Or
Use your camcorder as an analog interface to monitor via firewire on external TV set or broadcast monitor. Standard def only. And the quality will be there as TV set has less resolution than your mac screen.

  • What is canvas view type

what is canvas view type property in form?

A canvas is a surface--inside a window container--on which you place the interface items and boilerplate objects that end users interact with when they run the form. By default, any canvas you create at runtime is assigned to the window named WINDOW1. To explicitly associate a canvas to a specfic window, set the canvas' Window property accordingly. While you can create and delete canvases in the Object Navigator, you will use the Layout Editor to accomplish most of your canvas-related tasks.
There are five types of convases:
    1-Content
This is default canvas when we create form. It Specifies that the canvas should occupy the entire content area of the window to which it is assigned. Most canvases are content canvases.
    2-Stacked
Specifies that the canvas should be displayed in its window at the same time as the window's content canvas. Stacked views are usually displayed programmatically and overlay some portion of the content view displayed in the same window
    3-Tab
Specifies that this canvas will be a container for one or more tab pages.
    4-Vertical Toolbar
Specifies that the canvas should be displayed as a vertical toolbar under the menu bar of the window. You can define iconic buttons, pop-lists, and other items on the toolbar as desired.
    5-Horizontal Toolbar
Specifies that the canvas should be displayed as a horizontal toolbar at the left side of the window to which it is assigned.

I am getting the following error in custom form which has developed based on a vennila form QPXPRLST.FMB.
"Parent window not specified for canvas.View"
    for the following canvases
    1.FOLDER_SORT_DATA
    2.FOLDER_TOOLS
    3.SAVE
    and some more
    According Metalink, Apply a path : 1815485
But would it support Custom form ??
Pl give me solution if any body knows

    My Dear Friend,
For all the canvases, you will have to define the Window property. Since you didn't define the window property for your Login_canvas, you r getting the problem. You must launch the properties window for the canvas and set the window property for the canvas, then you will not get the problem again.

  • PAL sequence shows strange markings in canvas viewer window

I have a DV PAL clip in a DV PAL sequence. I have it rendered in the timeline and did a couple of simple edits. Even before I did the edits, I could not get the clip to display in the canvas viewer. I get some green dots here and there, the occasional green check mark and an occasional yellow exclamation mark in that window. What am I doing wrong?
    MikeR

One of my little edits was fading in from black. In the process I blasted the video levels way up.

  • Large black borders arond Canvas View

I have footage imported from a Canon XH-A1 at 720 x 480, when I drag it to the Canvas viewer it displays with large black borders around it and any exports look the same. Looks normal in Viewer. Also must be RENDERED to be viewable in Timeline, which did not used to be an issue - something has changed, but I am not sure what!
Capture preset is DV NTSC 48KHZ, camera is not in HD or wide screen mode. Footage seems to look OK if I import it into iMovie HD, not my preferred editor due to the length of clips being edited.

  • Canvas/Viewer Zooming past 100% question?

When I zoom the Canvas or Viewer past 100%, I think I should start to see actual pixels. By the time I get to 800%, I should be able to see the actual pixels, albeit very small. When I do this with Apple Intermediate or Apple ProRes MOV's, at like 800% I see what looks like VERY smoothed pixels. Is my output going to look like that? When I convert my input with a 3rd party codec such as CineformHD at the same resolution (I'm using 1920x1080 with all codecs), and when I zoom in, I start to see the pixel structure as I'm used to in Photoshop. I like it much better when I see the pixel structure.
Is FCP actually smoothing the view with the Apple codecs because it thinks it looks better with a smoother view? (Though when I make a change in the video parameters, for a brief second, you actually see the pixels then it switches back to the smooth view.)
I guess the question is, is that what its doing--smoothing? And the second is, can I make it so that the apparent "smoothing" doesn't happen? Thanks.

Final Cut Pro's Canvas always shows a low-res proxy to conserve resources for real time playback.
To truly assess your video quality, you need a calibrated external monitor.

  • Stupid question ?  How do I PROPERLY display 16:9 in the canvas/viewer

Working in FCP6. All I want to do is capture 16:9 PAL DVCAM from a Sony DSR 450 (set, unsurprisingly, to 16:9!) I've been all over the manual and drop down menus, think I've got the settings correct, BUT the canvas and viewer show the 16:9 letterboxed in a 4:3 frame and the capture window shows incoming 16:9 video squeezed into 4:3 frame. this can't be right surely. Could someone take me through the right settings?
In Avid (sorry for the bad language) you can simply select 16:9 monitors. I've found the windows/arrange/standard bit and was expecting to see a 16:9/4:3 option but it doesn't exist. Help ... Please.

Hi. Thanks for the thoughts. I'v already been on this dialogue box, there isn't a straightforward 16:9 setting. I'm assumng that you aheck the anamrphic 16:9 box select pixel aspect ratio to PAL CCIR601 720x576 and frame size to CCIR 601 PAL (4:3) Can't imagine what the frame size seting CCIR^)! PAL(5:4) is for. I'm aware that there are no more pixels recorded in 16:9 on a native 16:9 chip so setting for PAL 4:3 and ticking the anamorphic 16:9 box should fo it, shouldn't it. If you select one of the (obviously) native 16:9 HD formats you still get a letterbox within the 4:3 shaped viewer/canvas windows. Maybe that's just how it is. Seems strange though.

  • Canvas resize stretches pixels of image content slightly when used :(

    Hi,
I've a document that measures 3000 x 3000 pixels and I want to put an extra 600 pixels in height on it. I tried using canvas resize tool and it puts the extra pixels in height where I want them but it actually stretches the content very slightly. I noticed this because my artwork contains an image of planet earth from space and the globe gets stretched higher (only very slightly) in the direction of the new pixels. I've viewed it in various zooms including 50% and 100% and no success there either. Could it be a bug? best
    Paul

    Hi guys,
Here are the screenshots...not sure I'm allowed to upload full size copies...I'll try
I've also just been working on another piece of work and photoshop said there was a problem saving the file...I had to close it and lose all my work...could it be a bug with the download?
I don't think I previously cropped the image with delete cropped pixels unchecked and when I did use the crop tool I only ever expanded the top section too. The only layer that extends beyond the canvas is the lightning layer at the top.
    Cheers

  • Canvas "View" Question - FCP 6.05

FCP version 6.05 - A question about the canvas (and viewer also) window "view" choices. Please refer to the lefthand-most pop up menu (located between the time code windows.) While I keep my canvas and viewer set to "Fit to Window", I would like a clarification of "Correct for Aspect Ratio" at the bottom of the view choices. What exactly is being corrected? At times this line is grayed out; others not. It's not covered in the manual (at least I cannot find it), nor can I find it in the APTS book

Video pixels are not square (unlike the way computers display pixel). Video pixels in a 4:3 frame are narrower than tall and those in a 16:9 are wider than tall. If you are shooting DV/NTSC, both images are 720x480 pixels.
Using "correct for aspect ratio", will display the images using non-square pixels - ie as your television will display the image.
If you do not select "correct" the image will be displayed using square pixels with the result that a 4:3 image will be stretched horizontally and the 16:9 image will be squished horizontally.

  • Canvas viewing and safe areas

    Hello
I have many video cips in a time line, when I am not playing I see the safe zones displayed, when I play, they go away. Is there a way to continue to see safe zones as I play in the canvas. I am not sure that it is even supported, but if it is, I am not finding the selection to turn on.
    thanks
    les

A much easier workaround would be to create a guide in photoshop using the photoshop NTSC preset guides, import it into Final Cut and lay it in the top video track.
If you dont use Photoshop, you can apply the viewfinder filter (Effects/Video Filters/Video/Viewfinder) to the black slug in your Viewer, then drag it to the timeline and modify the scale and the aspect ratio to match safe title/safe action guides, put it on the uppermost video track, select it and goto Modify/Composite Mode and choose Add. Just remember to hide it before you Export or put to tape.

  • Canvas view

I've just captured a clip into FCP using my Sony Z1 and using the HDV to DV downconvert on the camera. When I play the clip in the viewer, it looks like I want it to. SD Letterboxed. When I put the clip into the canvas,
it becomes quite a bit smaller. Aspect is correct, just a lot smaller. I know it's probably some setting, I just can't find it. Any clues? Thanks in advance...

Make sure your sequence preset is what you want. It sounds like your sequence might be HD, making your SD clip appear rather small when cut in.

  • Canvas View Not Following External Video

Hello, everyone. I've had this problem before, and somehow managed to figure out how to fix it, but I'm having it again, and - for the life of me - it's stumping the heck out of me and I haven't been able to figure out how to undo it.
My external monitor is indeed playing the timeline sequence realtime, but the video on the Canvas is frozen. It only shows the frame I'm on when I stop playback.
My caps lock button is NOT on (that's happened before and I undid it).
    View>External Video>All Frames
    Video Playback>Apple Firewire NTSC (720X480)
Audio Playback>Firewire 410 [this is the audio device I use for playback]
    Show Multiclip Angles is UNchecked
    I'm stumped!
It's always been a quick fix before - a button I accidentally pressed or unpressed - but I haven't figured it out this time.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you very much,
    Javier Calderon

Also, and by the way, this is a feature I've been working on for a few months now - so it's a problem that just arose on a project I've been sailing decently on for a while now. Additionally, it seems to be something I did to FCP itself - and not to the specific project sequence I'm working on, because I opened up two other sequences to see if they were working well . . . and those other sequences weren't either. The other sequences had the same issue - letting me, again, know that it's some issue with the overall FCP program settings perhaps as opposed to the specific project I'm on.
