Canvio Slim 2 - 1 TB HDD

Just recieved the HDD today and I can't get it to show up on my MBP 6,2 on OS X  10.6 or Windows 7 using Parallels. I tried to reformat it in Disk Management to use with Time Machine but it doesn't show up there. In control panels, under device manager, it's visible. It's not visibe under "My Compter". It's using generic drivers as of now. I'm using Win7 Home Premium.
What would you suggest I do if I wanted to use this HDD w/ both Mac and PC?
Thanks in advance,
Daniel

  • Default Files and Folders in my Canvio Slim II

When I first connected my Canvio Slim II to my PC, I noticed a batch of files and folders which are default inside the device. I feel messed while I used to see WD used a separate Drive for setup and other files.
Q: If I move all those default files and folders into one folder any problem may raise? If I plan to use NTi Backup and restore, no problem if I move them?

  • Toshiba Canvio Slim II compatible with Mac OS 10.9.1?

Thinking about buying aToshiba Canvio Slim II to replace a WD Passport.  The packaging does not indicate that the device will work with Mavericks--anyone have any experience with it?

I have a Canvio 3tb drive that works fine. Just format it Mac OS extended journaled with GUID partition scheme using Disk Utility.

  • Tecra M5 - Is it possible to install another OS on slim select bay HDD

Is it possible to install another OS on slim select bay HDD (besides the one that is on the native HDD).
I am planning to add a slim bay HDD to my Tecra M5.

Although I can't vouch for the procedure myself, I don't see why not. If you can install two or more OSes on a single drive on separate partitions, then it should work on an additional HDD as well, in my opinion.
Another question is what OS, and what is going to manage the boot sequence. For example, Microsoft XP setup wipes out GRUB, so you need to install Linux after XP. Two MS OSes usually coexist just fine together, but to be on the safe side it doesn't hurt if the later (by release date) OS is installed second.

  • Slim Select Bay HDD adapter

I put in another HDD, and wanted to use the original one (MK4021GAS) in the slim select bay (SSB) using a SSB HDD adapter. However although the manual says “insert the HDD and push forward to ensure a firm connection”, and shows a picture of this, this is not possible as the connectors on the HDD and inside the SSB HDD adapter are different. The HDD has a double row of about 30 tines/spikes, like an old serial port, and the SSB adapter has a double row of 22 flat metal rectangles, a kind of edge connector, like an old parallel port cable. Do I need to purchase some kind of additional adapter? There's no such adapter shown in the picture in the manual.

Well, it sounds like you will need to search on Ebay because Satellite 5200 is an oldie
Im not quite sure how old it is but its definitely an stone age notebook so to be honest I dont wonder that the parts might be discontinued

  • Malware Detected: Canvio Connect 2TB External HDD

I purchased a Canvio Connect 2TB external hard drive yesterday (20 July, 2014). Upon connecting to my Mac the antivirus software ClamXav alerted me that there was malware in the file "autorun.new" in the NTI folder of the external hard drive. The malware is called "INF.Autorun-32". I further tested the "autorun.new" file using VirusTotal, resulting in the file being flagged by the ClamAV (definition: INF.Autorun-32) and McAfee (definition: Generic!atr.b) engines.
Does anyone know if this is a false positive, or malware loaded onto the drive by some unscrupulous vendor?

For fastest, most efficient answers to questions such as this visit the ClamXav Forum.

A quick answer is that the "autorun.new" file will automatically run something (probably setup.exe) when you plug that drive into a Windows machine. It won't run at all under OS X.
The definition has been in the database since early 2009.
The Microsoft malware encyclopedia says this about such malware:
    VirTool:INF/Autorun
Description: This is a detection for a file, called autorun.inf, that can be used by worms when they spread to local, network, or removable drives. The file has instructions to launch the malware automatically when the removable drive is...
    Published Date: Oct 10, 2013
    Alert level: Severe
Checking VirusTotal I could only find one submitted file (from Toshiba) as being infected with this and ClamXav was the only scanner to detect it.
is it worth trying to use the hard drive? Should I reformat the drive and would that be sufficient to wipe off any possible malware?
Bottom line is that even if an actual infection, it cannot harm your Mac in any way.
Erasing the drive will permanently eliminate it and you should alway reformat any disk you receive purchase for use with your Mac as they are almost all formatted for Windows and this obviously is.
Partition the drive using Disk Utility with one or more partitions with a GUID Partition Table using the "Options..." button and a Format of Mac OS Extended (Journaled).

  • Question on Canvio Slim II 1tb

Hey guys! I am new to the forum,  and I had a question. When I bought an external drive, I really wanted a drag-and-drop type drive. I noticed that this device can automatically back-up my selected files, or I can neglect the auto feature and just copy and past my  docs  over. Is that ok to do?
Another question someone may be able to help me with: I have another external drive. to prevent a nightmare from happening and my new drive malfunctioning, has anyone ever backed up an external drive with another drive?

I had the same problem and while downloading a TRIAL fix i came across your thread so im going to list a couple things to see if i can help.
The model number for your drive is the number on the sticker following the P/N. It was a little deceptive to me because i thought the serial number would be the model number but it is not. IF the question is what is your MODEL number, THEN what it is REALLY asking for is the P/N number.
THIS MIGHT NOT BE YOUR MODEL NUMBER, BUT This is what i was downloading when i saw your thread, I truly hope this helps :

  • Canvio Connect 2TB External HDD Disconnect

I have a new Canvio Connect. I have been trying to move a large amount of data to it. When I have it hooked up to my laptop PC running Windows 7 and USB 3, after copying for a while, it disconnects and opens the autorun window. I try again, it disconnects again not immediately but an hour or two into the copying. When I moved it to my desktop PC running Windows Vista Ultimate and USB 2, I try copying the same data but it doesn't disconnect not once. Is this something wrong with the drive? A setting in Windows? An issue with USB 3?
Any help would be appreciated. I really want the speed of USB 3.

  • 2 confusing models for the Toshiba 500GB Slim Portable Hard drives

Can anyone explain what the difference is between thee 2 products. Having a hard time finding out.
Toshiba 500GB Canvio® Slim II Portable External Hard Drive - Silver - HDTD205XK3D1
    Toshiba 500GB Canvio® Slim Portable External Hard Drive - Black - HDTD105XK3D1
Could it be just be the software they come with, surely not just the colour difference ?
They both have the led light on them.
One as you see is labelled as "Slim II"  - what's all that about ?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The major difference is the software that comes with the drives.
The Canvio Slim comes with NTI Backup Now EZ and Tuxera NTFS for Mac. The first is a full backup solution. The second enables write capability to the NTFS drive on Macs without needing to reformat it. This means that the drive can share files between Mac and Windows.
The Canvio Slim II includes that software as well as PogoPlug PC. This allows remote access to file on the drive via the web or mobile apps. It also gives users 10 GB of PogoPlug cloud storage. The Slim II also has the HDD Password Tool that allows users to set a password on the drive.

  • How to format external hdd

i have purchased Toshiba CANVIO Basics 500GB external HDD.
Please help to format this enabling to use with my mac book

    o to DISK UTILITY
Format (erase) it in "mac osx Extended journaled"
see from mine below, HD on left selected,   .......ERASE tab highlighted.... and middle right roughly, it says "MAC OSX EXTENDED JOURNALED"
thats the format,  but yours may be different of course
bottom right ERASE tab lets you erase/ FORMAT your external as you like (remember this erases all data ON THE HD!)
highlighted in RED   Erase.......format (middle) ...........erase ACTION to Erase/Format (bottom)
    After that:
    To show HD on desktop
go into FINDER at top then PREFERENCES  then GENERAL tab
then check "hard disks" and "external disks"

  • Boot from second hdd?

    Hello!
    My laptop: t420s.
This laptop has an extra slim 320 gb HDD as factory default.
My question: if I buy a second HDD drive caddy, and install a second hdd (SSD) the laptop can boot from the drive tah can be found in the caddy?
    Thanks!

Technically yes, but not recommended. The primary bay is where is should be. You can move your existing HD into the caddy for additional storage if you want.
Normally the caddy is not always powered and if it ever is shut down the system will crash. Keeping it powered and online is not documented nor 100% guaranteed.
Imaging the HD for the SSD using another drive or cloning from the HD to the SSD are the most straight forward methods.
Acronis Trueimage is one of the better tools, while other exist. I would NOT wipe the original drive for some time afterwards in case something goes wrong or fails. That drive is a full backup.
Also before even starting I would make the recovery DVD's if you haven't yet. SSD do fail and when they do there is little warning.

  • Canvio installation freeze

After installing the Canvio Slim II and restarting my Windows 7 computer, when I get to the Desktop and highlight the NTI icon the system freezes.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

My advice is to forget about the NTI Backup Now EZ software. Many external drives come with flaky backup solutions like that.
I would uninstall it and format the whole Canvio disk. The drive is good hardware.
Then get yourself some decent third-party backup software. Lots of much better free backup programs out there.

  • Satellite L670-1DG PSK3EE - I want to insert HDD into CD/DVD drive bay

    Hi all,
Before i begin, sorry for my English, i'm french.
    I have a Toshiba L670 1DG (PSK3EE) with a 500Gb HDD.
I want to put this HDD in the CD/DVD rack with an adaptator, and put an 64go SSD in the HDD slot.
(i don't use the DVD reader, i will make it external).
But i don't know where i can find this HDD adaptator for CD/DVD rack, i've searched on eBay but i think it's not
    for my Toshiba...
    Can you help me ?
    Regards
    Arnaud

    Hi
I dont think this is possible here for this notebook series.
As far as I know the notebook needs to support an Slim Select Bay to use something like Slim Select Bay HDD Adapter *PA3134U-2ETC*
But just some special Toshiba like Portege or Tecra Tecra M1, M2, M3, M4, S1, S2 support this
