Cap 5: Making menu buttons active / inactive until content is completed

Hello Captivate experts!
I've run into a snag I know you smart people will be able to help me with.:)
I have created a menu system, linking several large pieces together. Each menu button opens the linked project.
Here's my problem....I need to make the Security Policy Final Checkpoint module unavailable until users have taken all of the content. (something added to the scope of the project AFTER I created this...dang it) Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!
Here is an image of my rough draft menu and button properties:

Hi Lilybiri,
Yes, all of the modules are seperate .cptx files that are "linked" via the buttons on the menu. The menu is also a seperate file.:)
All of these modules have an "avatar" voice narrating the entire piece, so having one giant file with over 120+ slides was not working well, so broke them up into seperate modules and built a menu file to navigate between the modules.
Completion of the linked module IS all they have to do. Returning to the menu is considered completing that module, yes.:)
Thanks for your anticipated help, MUCH appreciated!

  • Menu buttons dont work until menu itself loops

i have a button on the menu, and connects to a video track. when i simulate the project, the button works fine, but when i try a burned dvd in a set top player, the button won't work until the menu itself has reached the end and starts over again.....???

You can control the moment when the buttons overlay appears (activation) changing the Loop Point time. You have 3 time settings in the Inspector for your motion menu: Start, Loop and End points. With these settings you can manage how to play the background movie in your menu.
To make your buttons activate inmediatly when the motion menu starts, you must set the same time setting in Start and Loop points. Let me know you current settings for these three points if you found problems.
    From DVDSP Manual
    Loop Point
You can use the Loop Point setting to set a frame different from the starting frame to use when you choose Loop as the At End setting. By default, the Loop setting is the same as the Start setting. When you adjust the Loop setting, you are choosing the frame that is jumped to once the end frame is reached. This allows you to have a looping background with a beginning section—for example, a fade up from black or a transition from another menu—that only plays the first time through. If there is audio assigned to the menu, it automatically follows the video as it loops.
This setting also defines when the button highlights appear—the viewer cannot navigate the menu’s buttons until the loop point is reached. Additionally, the Loop Point setting controls the video used for the menu’s tile in the Graphical tab.

  • Making menu buttons appear

Hi, I'm finding in DVD Studio Pro that as soon as I've gone past my self designed warning screen on my DVD Studio project, the menu background with buttons simply appears straight away. I would like the buttons to appear or fade in a bit more smoothly a few seconds after the background has appeared to look a bit more professional. Anyone know a way to do this?

    Well... Eric has covered it...
What I do is create the menu backgrounds in FCP and make sure I fade in all of the button text and imagery at the right point, then I make a still and hold it for a minute or so. This footage becomes the background for the menu.
I take a still from the 'still' section of the menu footage into photoshop. I add a layer, and add highlight information and export that as an overlay for the menu.
In DVDSP, import both and set the footage for the background... then use the loop point setting and move the marker to the position just after the menu fades in and becomes still. Add the highlight file, draw the button rectangles and set the colours and navigation just as you would for a normal menu.
Now, when this menu plays the animated sequence will fade in and the buttons will become active at the loop point. After the minute of still menu the whole thing will loop, but will start at the loop point (clue's in the name!)
This should give you the effect you are after...

  • How do I change a menu button color when a section is complete

I have created a selection screen (menu) that lets participants pick how they want to move through a module: menu item 1, menu item 2, menu item 3, and menu item 4. Is there a way to change the color of a menu item or add a check mark next to a menu item when you have completed a section so a user can check their progress in the menu and know what they have already done. An explanation of how to do so would be very much appreciated. Thanks! (I am using Captivate 7)

Something like I show in this blog post:
Captivate 8 - First Adventures - Captivate blog
The explanation there is for Captivate 8 and with Shared actions. I have explained this multiple times, also in a webinar: Shapes « Rapid eLearning | Adobe Captivate Blog has the link to that webinar.
And several threads in this forum have a short explanation as well. First choice is: do you want to allow the user to visit the same menu item more than once?
You will have to put the check marks in place, but make them hidden (Properties panel). If you want a change in color, you can either replace the menu item (don't know how it looks) by another one with another color, or cover the menu item with a shape that has another color, or apply a Basic effect to it. All that can be done with the same advanced action (standard) that has the Jump to... statement. You can even use Shared Actions in this case, because you don't need a variable.
Problem with this first approach is that for slow bandwidth (and especially for HTML output) the user can sometimes see already very shortly the changes before the Jump action.  And if there are different slides in the menu, you want perhaps to be sure that they visited all the slides. If that is the case, let me know and I'll explain a more complicated solution that will not present the disadvantages of this first solution, that is the easiest one.

  • Can you change the color of menu buttons dynamically?

    Post Author: DanH
CA Forum: Xcelsius and Live Office
    Hello, Newbie Here,
Built my first Xcelsious front end and linked to two personnel databases.  Everything works just fine.  The outputs on this particular visualization generate completion statistics for 12 divisions and a 13th for combined.  Don't know enough about the software yet to know whether I can make the menu buttons appear in red for those that have not accomplished a 100% compliance to the task being tracked?  This would make it visually easier for upper management to click directly on the division menu buttons in red, rather than have to click on all of them to see which divisions haven't achieved completion.  Also, wouldn't hurt to be able to turn the other menu buttons green for those that have completed.  Any ideas are appreciated, really scratching my head at the moment.
    Thanx,
    Dan

  • Menu button has stopped responding

Help! My 1st generation nano - my workout buddy - is not responding to my pressing the menu button. It seems to be completely dead and non-responsive. I haven't dropped it... but it may have become slightly damp from sweat.
Now it is stuck on a calendar date, and I have no way of getting it to go "back" to the main menu.
Is it done for???? Obviously with it being a 1st generation, the warranty is long gone.

Since it is still under warranty I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

When I select my iPod touch in iTunes the buttons are inactive when I try to sort by name, artist etc.  Also about half of the links under 'file' etc are not active.

Further to my question, when I plug in and select my iPad 2 I don't have the same problem.  I have restored the settings on my iPod Touch and updated both iTunes and iPod Touch software and restarted my iPod touch.  Nothing has made any difference.

  • Data source active/inactive button grayed out in LBWE

    Hello,
When I was activating the Logistics datasource in LBWE, my data source status became red and the Active/Inactive button grayed out? how can I make this data source active again?
    Thanks,
    KK

    Hi Kumar,
The status will become Red and Active/Inactive is disable due to Extract structure activated but data source is not maintained. This happens once you change the extract structure to Include additional fields. Please do the below step:
in LBWE, Click on Data source (Technical name of your data source beside maintainance) and you will get maintainance screen, change if you want some thing or else leave as it is and save, Now  the status for data source in LBWE will become yellow and activate/deactivate will enable.

  • Why would menu button's active state not work? Regardless if I import PSD button or use menu widget from the widget library.

I am using Adobe Muse CC (up-to-date) and tried to troubleshoot the following: Menu button's active state is not working, both on preview and after publishing. I tried many ways to place menu-designed buttons myself using photoshop and used widgets library (buttons, compositions, menus,etc.). Lastly, in regards to buttons, one of my menu buttons appear clear and crisp (psd button) and all others are blurry (though designed, saved and imported the same way);what could be the problem? Can anyone help? Thanks.

That line is for pop up message? You would typically use a tool tip for that.
The "Accessibility" features are different and I believe you need additional software to take advantage of them:

  • Active page Menu button hover styling

I having a bug / issue with the 'Active' state on the menu buttons. Even though the Active state on the buttons are correct in Muse when designing, whenever I publish, then hover over on the active page menu button.. the styling switches to a white font with a white bg. I need the white bg but the font color is supposed to be black.. like I have set it inside Muse.
    Here's what I mean clickhere
Each page's own menu item on (hover state) goes to white on white. Here's also a screen of my Muse 'states' clickhere so you know I have it correct.

    Hello,
In HTML, whenever a link is in active state, no other states work on it. Here in your case, the link is on the Menu item (Button) and not on the text inside that button.
Which is why, the colour of text changes but the colour of the Button does not change when it is in Active state.
I would here suggest you here to use some other color combination so that it is displayed properly to the users.

  • Won't open homepage on open, won't open web pages from the menu 'open new window', Can't open menu button

Ok, since update to version 31.0, I have been having some problems.
I have tried doing everything stated in the support page about resetting, reinstalling, safe mode, restarting pc etc.
First problem, when I open Firefox no web page loads. It just says New Tab and a blank white page. If I press the home button I am taken to my homepage which is google.
Second problem, when I right click on a link and the menu pops up, if I click open in new window, a new window opens but it just says New Tab with a blank page and no URL information, just blank.
Third problem, the Open Menu button just doesn't work at all. You can click all you like, that thing is not opening.
I am really stuck as to what to do. I have only been using Firefox for about a month and t was good until these problems. If I can't resolve it, I will have to use another browser as it is really annoying.
I am using Windows 8.1 by the way and have scanned my computer thouroughly for both virus's and malware.

Hi zenithtwc, to test whether this is a settings issue, could you do a three-minute experiment?
    '''Create a new Firefox profile'''
A new profile will have your system-installed plugins (e.g., Flash) and extensions (e.g., security suite toolbars), but no themes, other extensions, or other customizations. It also should have completely fresh settings databases and a fresh cache folder.
Exit Firefox and start up in the Profile Manager using Start > search box (or Run):
    firefox.exe -P
''Don't delete anything here.'' Any time you want to switch profiles, exit Firefox and return to this dialog.
Click the Create Profile button, assign a name like Test731, and skip the option to change the folder location. Then start Firefox in the new profile you created.
    Can it reach the internet?
When returning to the Profile Manager, you might be tempted to use the Delete Profile button. But... it's a bit too easy to accidentally delete your "real" profile, so I recommend resisting the temptation. If you do want to clean up later, I suggest making a backup of all your profiles first in case something were to go wrong.

  • UI: Toolbar - (F?)AQ about toolbar button activation and usage

    <b>Q:</b>
How can I add functionality of the two SAP toolbar buttons shown on the screenshot?
    <b>Reply:</b>
Please note that the clicks on the toolbar buttons are translated into MenuEvents!
I.e. if the button is active at the time you want to use it - just declare a MenuEvent handler for it... (find the Menu ID e.g. in the UI help - or from version 2005 on through hovering over the corresponding menu item).
If the toolbar button is inactive - activate the corresponding menu item first.
    Please note that you cannot:
    - add or remove toolbar buttons (you can just disable them)
    - add or remove top level menu items

    Just a FYI

  • Firefox opens but nothing shows/load in the window, not even menu buttons

I open Firefox & a window opens but nothing loads or shows up, not even menu buttons. Occasionally when you blindly click around some menus will open but options beyond that don't produce anything.
I have (not necessarily in this order):
Uninstalled Firefox, deleted all remaining folders, then reinstalled (twice).... didn't help.
Reverted PC back to before Firefox updated... didn't work.
Uninstalled, Debugged my PC, reinstalled.... didn't work.
Turned off firewalls & switched settings to make sure nothing was blocking it from working.... didn't work.
At this point, after surfing Mozilla support site & not finding anyone else having this exact issue I'm not sure what else to do. I love Firefox & want to keep using it (I HATE using Internet Explorer) but the only other solution I can think of is use Google Chrome or IE.
I have Windows 7, use McAfee, & SpyHunter. My laptop is less than 5 y.o. & I keep thing updated reg. so I don't think anything should be out of date or incompatible.
    Thanks!

    Hello,
Currently in version 33, Firefox has implemented a new, faster way of loading webpages. This new feature is called OMTC. However, there are still some tweaks Mozilla developers are making to this.
There is a known issue that Mozilla works on very hard to fix: if you are experiencing black webpages on some sites, here's what you can do to avoid the problem in the meantime:
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:
    * Click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]], click Help [[Image:Help-29]] and select ''Restart with Add-ons Disabled''.
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
    * On Windows: Hold the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".<br>
    [[Image:Safe Mode Fx 15 - Win]]
    To disable Hardware Acceleration
    * Click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]] and select ''Options''.
    * In the Firefox Options (or Preferences) window, click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select ''General''.
    * In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
Now, exit Firefox, wait a few seconds, and then start it normally.
Please let us know if this solves the problem. Engineering is also gathering more information about the issue would request that you fill out [http://www.surveygizmo.com/s3/1851506/1c87a6cf309a this survey]
I should also mention that other users with this problem had an embedded intel hd graphics card with an old driver present. Until Mozilla comes up with a fix, if you want Hardware Acceleration in Firefox, you can try to update your driver through the appropriate link below to see if that helps:

  • "Close Project" to be made inactive until a particular phase is reached.

    Hi All ,
I am having requirement of making "Close Project" under Document tab in Document toolbaras inactive until the Project reaches the final phase of it.what I thght of it is like locking/inactivating the "Close Project" by scripting when the project is created and write the code to unlock/activating the "Close Project" in the Document Life cycle event context for a post phase change by checking if the current phase is the last phase of the Project.
But I didnt find any methods from RG to make the Close Project inactive... Did any one try this or suggest any methods from RG?.
(I guess in toolbar customizations you can only hide or rename the display names . I was able to only rename/hide the "Close Project"...).
