Cap 5 Quiz Hotspot

When reviewing incorrect answers for hotspots in a Quiz, the blue blinking correct box is to small to see. Is there a way to change the size and color?
Thanks for your help.
Gary Hill

User has to click the 'Clear' button in order to make a new selection before submitting. I do not know really if there is another workaround, since Hotspot questions also allow multiple correct answers, how would Captivate know that a next selection is a 'new' selection?

  • How to make page continue after all click boxes have been clicked (CP6)

    Hi,
I have a standard non quiz hotspot page in my course. I want this page to continue to show a final animation once the learner has clicked all click boxes on screen.
At the moment, I have set up Advanced Actions to make the click boxes show the relevant information successfully. I have also set up an array which tells the page to continue once all the click boxes have been clicked, however the page does not continue until the user clicks on the page again AFTER clicking all the click boxes.
    Why is this happening?
    Thanks

Lilybiri, I had problem with advanced actions and you helped me a great deal with your skills and your template for reusing.
I will try to explain the best I can, If there are 3 buttons on a slide, and when each one is clicked: they assign some variable from 0 to 1, conditional action says if all assigned variables are 1 then do action for that slide, slide action can be: show 4th button (initially invisible) for example. That 4th button will be visible only if you proceed to some other slide by clicking one of those first 3 buttons (via jump to slide), and when you navigate back to that initial slide 4th button will be visible. This was the only way for me to show 4th button which is initially invisible on a slide with conditional actions. Standard actions works just fine: you click something and assigned action is performed. But, again for conditional actions slide needs to be reloaded.  For me it works only this way otherwise nothing happens on a slide when I have situation like this (with conditional actions). This is why I have replied in this way since I have recognized my problem. Am I wrong? And yes, event is triggered on slide Enter.

  • Cap 5 - All questions included in quiz?!

    Hi All,
We have a 50 slide module with practice questions scattered throughout. At the end we have a 10 question assessment. I've noted that cap 5 includes ALL questions in the 'quiz results' screen - even the practice questions.
To resolve I had to hide the number of questions - which worked to a point UNTIL... if the user fails the assessment they have to click the retake quiz button and this directs them way back to the very first practice question in the module which is definately not what we want - I want it to go back to the first assessment question. Captivate used to have an option - for questions 'include in quiz'. Has this option been removed - I can see it for buttons but not for questions...
This is a fairly significant problem for us.

For your practice questions, on the Quiz Properties tab, have you set General > points to 0, and on the Reporting accordion unticked the Report Answers box?
    Does that work?

  • How do I track number of correct and incorrect mouse clicks in Hotspot quiz?

    Hi All,
I need to create a quiz that allows me to know how many correct answers the user has clicked (there will be 20ish) and how many clicks were incorrect. Is there anyway of doing this?
    Many Thanks
    Chris M

    Hi,
Thanks, I am currently running version 4 of captivate. The intention is that all 20 hotspots will appear in the same slide.
So you can get an idea of the project, it will train users how to proof documents. A document shows on screen users would then click on every error they can spot. For every hotspot not in the correct area (IE over a spelling mistake) gets marked as a different variable (IE You were wrong X times).
    Thanks

  • Cap 4 quiz published in cap 5 not working

Our site runs quizzes made from cap 4 fine but when I make a change to a cap 4 quiz using cap 5 and republish, the quiz will no longer work. Where do I start looking for a fix?

    Hi,
What type of question slides are you using in the project? (Also, what is your first question slide where the player is freezing)
What happens if you directly open the quiz swf instead of opening it from the javascript? Does the player freezes even then?
    Thanks,
    Vikranth.

  • Submit button in Cap 7 quiz does not advance learner to next quiz slide

I created a 5 question MC quiz in Cap 7. When I take the quiz in the preview mode, I am able to advance to the next slide by clicking on the submit button. Well, when I click on the submit button, a pop up appears that says: Correct - click anywhere or press 'y' to continue. Once I click anywhere, *then* I am taken to the next question.
However, when I take the quiz in a web browser, I cannot advance to the next slide, even when I answer the question correctly. I click the submit button. The same pop up appears as in the preview mode: Correct - click anywhere or press 'y' to continue. So, I click anywhere but nothing happens. The slide does not advance.
I've created a few quizzes before in Cap 7 using the same settings so I was stumped when the quiz didn't work this time. Maybe I accidentally changed a setting??

The jump to slide works great. Yes, the user goes right back to the quiz after remediation. The user can then change her answer and click submit. However, she can not advance forward. Sigh.
I am a freelancer who inherited the template from the former freelancer. I was told to use her template to create the trainings. So I am. I was supposed to use all the settings she used, too. That's why the Required is set to: User must answer every question'
I can try your idea and the Requirements in the settings.
What's odd, though, is that I've developed a Quiz using these same exact settings and it worked perfectly. That's why it's odd that the Quiz is no longer working correctly.
Okay, let me try to change the Required settings.
By the way, the submit button works fine in the Preview mode, just not the Web Browser mode.

  • Cap 6 - how to capture quiz score/route based on score & prob with Master slide?

Hi --Using Cap 6 on a Windows PC. I have a module with weighted questions, and want to analyze the score when the user completes the questions. If they score 69% or below, they must view the entire module. If they score between 70% and79%, then they can just take the quiz questions again. If they score 80% of better, their score is recorded in the LMS and they are given credit for the module.
    I have two challenges:
    1) The course originally was going to be an acknolwedgment-only module, so I deleted buttons from the results slide (not the results master) but when I select Reset Mater Slide in the slide properties, the deleted buttons do not re-apply onto the slide. How do I get those buttons back?
    2) I created an Advanced Action called start_over. It's simple - and the "Else" statement is "continue". I set this up in Quiz Pref. Does this also get assiend as an Action on the slide properties?
Result is that the quiz just stops. The quiz results slide displays - but without any content. If you select play again from the skin, the next slide is displayed.
I have searched forum, etc., but can't find a solution -- I need to re-create this scenario for several other modules too. Thanks in "Advance" for help!

About your second question, think you are using the wrong system variable. It is hard to read, but I think you use cpQuizInfoQuizPassPercent, which is the percentage required for passing. And you should have used cpInfoPercentage, which is the percentage acquired by the learner. Have a look at my blog post about system variables:
    http://blog.lilybiri.com/system-variables-in-captivate-6
But I don't think you need such an action for Quiz Preferences? Because you have two possible actions there: Success action and Failure action? Why need an advanced acton for a simple Jump?
As for the score slide: Quiz Preferences, Settings: click the button Quiz Result Messages under Show score slide and you'll be able to mark the fields you want to show.
You can also create a custom score slide:

  • Hotspot quiz no longer works correctly!

I am not sure what happened, but my hotspot quiz question is no longer working as it should.
Normally, a marker appears right under where you click; that is, when you do not have "Allow Clicks on Hotspots only" selected. At least this is how it worked until today!
Now, when I click on a spot, a marker appears in a different place on this slide. This also means that it is impossible to click on the actual hot spot.
Update: This question slide is now working after I updated the hot spot marker type. I just used a different one (but I am sure that just refreshing it fixed the problem).
Has anyone ever seen this issue?

  • Final Quiz Review in Cap 6

This used to be a problem in Cap 5.5:
You have 5 scoreless reinforcement questions in a module prior to a final quiz.
Learner takes final quiz and results page has review option. The review includes the reinforcement questions, as the first question sets the beginning of the quiz scope.
I don't want the learner to review the initial reinforcement questions. I'm not clear if this is addressed in Cap 6. I've read about pre-tests but not sure if that is the approach. It sounds like in 6 the first question still determines start of quiz scope.
I want to have learner review incorrect final quiz questions only and retake the quiz.
Hopefully this can be done without a bunch of custom coding.

Review will not get you back to the pretest questions, so that could perhaps be a possible feature in CP6.
The Quiz scope changed, user is not leaving the scope until th score slide is visited.
But Review is still designed to be done after all quiz attempts, you will not able to have another quiz attempt after Reviewing the question slides.

  • HotSpot Quiz Question

    Hello,
I am using captivate 7 to create a hotspot quiz.  I would like to limit my user, and only allow them to make one click per question.  I am providing 4 hotspots with one correct answer, but do not want to allow multiple attempts.  I have the attempts set to 1 under the "action" accordian tab, but I am still able to identify multiple hotspots during the quiz.  Any suggestios, perhaps an advanced action is needed?  Thanks.

    Hello and welcome,
That will not be possible with the default Hotspot question slide, but you can create a hotspot question with standard objects. For the hotspots themselves you could use shapes in the form of the hotspot that you convert to buttons. And then you can attach an advanced action to the shape buttons, that disable all shape buttons once there has been a shape button clicked. And  you attach the score only to the correct shape button. Seems pretty easy to do.

  • Cap 4 Quiz Results page not restoring data properly

I'm testing a Quiz built in Captivate 4 SCORM 1.2 which allows 5 attempts to achieve a passing score of 100.  If the user fails, exits on the Quiz Results page, and then relaunches (bookmarked back to the Results page), the values displayed (score, number of questions correct, number of attempts) are not correct.  Score is 1 or 4 or a random number, attempts goes back to 1.  I am able to analyze the saved cmi data to see that the correct data has indeed made it to the LMS.  And if the user clicks Retake for another attempt, the Results page will then update and show the correct number of attempts.  So Captivate is reading in the saved number of attempts.  But it seems like Captivate displays the Results page before it has fully retrieved the cmi data.  Has anybody else had this issue?  Any work-arounds?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Cap 6.1 - Error with .flv videos in quiz

I have 5 .flv videos in a quiz and they used to work flawlessly. I had some install/uninstall/subscription issues and inadvertently updated captivate from 6.0 to 6.1 (dont know if this is the issue) and ever since I have had errors.
The error is easily noticable in preview mode as the video overtakes the quiz and doesnt let you see any of the quiz questions. When I publish to Adobe Connect (the quiz is for an elearning webinar) everything works fine except for 2 major errors: 1. You cannot interact with the video skin (ie play/pause/playbar/etc.) 2.There is a "full screen" option in a connect pod that is sharing a file, if you click this the video goes full screen and only goes away with the esc key, once it goes away the "submit" button no longer works so youre stuck and cannot complete the quiz.
I can send the file to anyone who wants to take a look, the error should be pretty evident when you preview. If you preview in captivate, the video shows up and blacks the quiz out, if you preview in web browser it gives you the issues that I have in connect. I believe they are the same errors in different formats.
As a temporary workaround I have:
-removed the skin and just looped the video to remove any interactivity with the video
-instructed the presenter/host to advise the 40 person elearning class to NOT press "full screen" under any circumstances
However I am still looking for a solution.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have a class that starts at  7 ET/4 Pacific
    Thanks
    Corey Hammond

Once I got the project all set again, previewed successfully both in captivate and in web browser, I went to publish in connect. When publishing in connect it gave the same error I had a month or so ago:
"Failed to publish your project to the Adobe Connect Server. Verify your network connection and try again"
    (see my other thread: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5510327#5510327)
Now this was frustrating coming across this again when I thought this problem was solved a while back. I went into a chat session with an adobe support person and screen shared and his conclusion was that a couple slides were problematic. I again scrapped the whole file, re-did the project, and published to connect. It worked and I had successful publish. The problem? I went to test it in connect/preview/web browser and it has the same bug as before (as mentioned in the first post of this thread). Needless to say, I almost threw my computer out the window.
I have now gone full circle TWICE experiencing both issues at opposite ends of my laps and it is starting to get frustrating. I am thinking it is a bug, might never have a solution, which is disheartening.
Anyone willing to take a stab at it is welcome, im at my rope's end...

  • Cap 6 - Turn Off TOC during Quiz

I see I can turn off the playbar during a quiz - can I also turn off the TOC during a quiz so that the user can't click on the slide deck? We want to leave the navigation open during the learning portion, but letting the user click on the TOC during the quiz presents problems when they return to the quiz, especially when there is no playbar.
Another idea I had is if there is a TOC widget we can use during the learning section only rather than using the system TOC - however I've never used a widget so I don't know if this is an option or not. Any other suggestions/ideas are welcome.

Hey - thanks for the response! We have it set to seperate otherwise folks tend to not see it/know it's there.
That's an interesting idea. I've never used Variables before and the help text is a little vague on how to set system variables up - do I need to set the variable for each slide I want to hide the TOC on? Am I doing that under Project / Advanced Actions? This doesn't seem right...

  • Creating captions for incorrect answers for hotspot quiz?

I am creating a hotspot question where there are 2 images for the learner to choose, one correct and one incorrect. How can I create a caption that tells the learner the reason why the incorrect answer is incorrect?

Is this a default hotspot question? Recently I published an example of a custom hotspot question, then it is much easier to control everything.

  • Hotspot outside of a quiz slide

There may be an easy answer to this that I haven't been able to discover yet, as I'm fairly new to captivate (so apologies in advance.) Is there a way to set up a clickable hot spot on a slide outside of a quiz slide? I'm building a simulation, and I want the user to click on a specific dropdown. I'd like to set it up so an error message pops up if they do not click on this dropdown. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Okay that kind of worked. I should have clarified a little more in my original post - I have a text entry box where the learner has to enter in a number, and then select the correct drop-down menu. Ideally, I'd like to have it all as one action or step. Where the error message is displayed after they click the drop down (or incorrect drop down) stating they have the wrong number or clicked the wrong dropdown. I played around with the advanced actions and contingent actions and could get the entry box to light up if the number is wrong or missing, but I can't seem to resolve the click box portion of it to work correctly. Any other advice? Thanks again in advance!
