I can't log onto my macbook air as the caps lock seems to be stuck (even tho its not). Using brand new Macbook Air OS Lion, not technical so need step by step instructions pls

Hi Donna, if you've already rebooted, try this workaround...
    System Preferences>Keyboard>Modifier keys>Caps Lock=no action.

  • Caps lock stuck.

MBPro was logged out and screen was closed. Hours later attempted to re-log into and kept getting wrong password error. Logged under guest opened notes, safari & contacts and showed I was typing in all caps even w/o caps lock lite up. Cannot get it to normal.

If you are in the habit of eating and drinking while using the computer, dirt & crumbs could have gotten underneath the caps key.  If you have a can of compressed air or a vacuum hose, run it over the key.  You can remove the key if you have to - How to remove and clean your Macbook Pro Keyboard

Non accidental hardware issue, take the computer to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.
Liquid damage is not covered under Apple's standard 1 year warranty or Apple Care.
NOTE:  If you are out of warranty and purchased the computer with a credit card, discuss the warranty issue with the credit card company which you purchased the computer with.   They are the only ones who can at this point cover the computer after it goes out of warranty with the manufacturer (Apple).

  • Help, I have locked myself out of my macbook air and there seems to be no way back on.

I have literally just got my first mac computer today (a macbook air) having previously been a PC user. Needless to say, I am not familiar with how to use them at all and am pulling my hair out here trying to work out why I have been locked out after just 5 minutes of using it.
I guess there must have been a setting on it to automatically log me out after a certain amount of time as I left my computer for a while before returning and came back to a login screen. It is now prompting me for a password to get back into my mac - even though I didn't even set one! When I click the ? button, it says i should go to appleid.apple.com to reset it from another device, but I have tried this and all it allows me to do is reset my Appleid - not my computer password. (By the way, have also tried typing in appleid password with no luck.)
Has anyone got any tips? I have tried running multiple internet searches across the forums and have found nothing even remotely close to helping me. It seems so ridiculous for something so simple - especially as i never even set a password!!!
Any help much appreciated - I am on the verge of throwing this machine across the room and I've only just got it.

Did you purchase your MacBook Air new?  Do you still have its box?  Locate its serial number and telephone Apple at the number shown at the bottom of this page (1-800-MY-APPLE if you're in the U.S.).  They can help you.

I'm not stuck on caps lock.
I've attempted to reset the type tool and it's still all caps.
It's not a font issue, I've tried several I know have upper/lower and are not working.
    Any other thoughts or suggestions?

  • Caps Lock is "OPPOSITE" green light ON is lowercase - light OFF is CAPS??

    Hello...
WEIRD circumstance that I noticed with my PowerBook G4. Everything else seems to be functioning fine but my caps lock key is screwy.
When the light is ON the type is lower case but when the light is OFF the type is UPPERCASE/CAPS LOCK!! So, the previous function of the Caps Lock key and light indicator reversed!!
Anyone have this problem or know how to fix?? It's 90% annoying but also a BIG problem when typing in my numerous passwords that are cAsE SeNSitIVe because with the •••••••• seen when you enter a passwork, I can't keep track if I am lowercase or CAPS.
    Thanks!!
    Scott

    **ADDITIONAL PROBLEM**
Here's another issue that just came up...
In the same way that I explained the Caps Lock key not working, now the NUM LOCK (F6) is doing the SAME THING. For the Numbers Lock to be OFF the light (F6 key) has to be ON (and I can then use my keyboard) but if the Numbers Lock light in OFF then the numbers lock key is ENGAGED (e.g., my U, I and O keys are 4, 5, 6)
So, my Caps Lock and Num Lock keys are "backwards"....light ON is NOT engaged (works normal) and light OFF is ENGAGED!
    Any soloutions??
    THANKS!!

  • Keyboard cap locks stuck

I cleaned my iMac aluminum keyboard with a windex wipe and now the cap lock key is stuck on, backspace key does not work and "i" now comes out as "ssss" Help!

You may have damaged the keyboard if liquid got into the the electronics of the keyboard. As a general rule do NOT use any liquids on a keyboard or keeps glasses of liquids in their vicinity to prevent spills. You can try doing a SMC reset or remove the keyboard and put it in a bag of rice for a few days to help it dry out.
Going forward to clean your keyboard use alcohol wipes or a baby wipe.
    SMC RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.

  • MBP 15" half 2012 caps lock stuck

    Good day
i have a problem with the onboard keyboard :
sometimes after power up, the CAPS LOCK key led turn on itself, but while writing the text is still lower case.
So it's just inverted. To reset it i found that i need to plug in an usb storage key, after few seconds the CAPS LOCK led will turn off.
I know it's strange but it seems a sw issue to me, it's annoying.
No problems running an external apple usb keyboard with external video and lid closed.
Running OSX 10.9.4 but got the same problem also before,
don't know if it' something i am carrying in the Time machine backup that i use after upgrading OSX with a fresh install.
Already tried SMC and PRAM reset, but after sometimes problem reoccurring.
    Any idea? thanks!
    Alfredo

    Hi alf69mi,
If the caps lock key on your MacBook Pro does not work as expected, I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -
One or more keys on the keyboard do not respond

Specifically the section titled “Some keys don't work as expected.”
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Mavericks update locked me out of my Macbook Air and insists on a keychain password to let me in.nto my computer at all because it keeps asking for a keychain password, and I've never had one.

I just updated Mavericks because I was unable to get Google Chromecast to work with my MacBook Air.  When it rebooted it insisted on my entering my login keychain for every single program on the computer.  I have no idea what a login keychain is, and my password doesn't work.  I can't get past the opening page and my only options are to enter the login keychain, sleep, restart, or shutdown.  What do I do?

Thanks.   My problem is that I never had a keychain login password, and even if I did I can't get past the login, so I can't change my keychain password or delete keychains.  All I can do are enter the keychain login or reboot, which puts me right back where I started.

  • Led Light on MageSafe Charger Does not light;MacBook Air Recognizes it but does not charge

So I've had my MacBook Air (Mid-2011) for over a year now. The reason I am posting this is because I originally had a 40W MagSafe "L" Shape that came with my MacBook Air. Well I accidently spilled Pepsi on it while it was plugged in and you get the gist of that. Well I had bought an 85W "L" Shape adapter and it works perfectly fine, no problems. I've had the 40W stored away for probably 5 months or so and recently got the itch to work on it and try to trouble shoot it. Being an IT student, I get a hunch to just take apart things and try to fix them. But anyway, I've reset the prongs on the L part itself, I've changed the plug in to the 3 prong AC instead of the "Duck Face" thing. I've checked for SMC updates and it told me my MacBook does not need it. Well when I plug in my charger, it is recognized immediately by my MacBook. But on the top where the battery level is, it says "Battery is not Charging" and also says "Power Source: Power Adapter". So I am a little confused as to why it won't charge. I let it dry out when this first happened in some rice but I am not sure that did anything for it. I also have cleaned it, like i said I reset the prongs on the L shaped adapter itself. I haven't on the other hand gone and opened it, just because messing with those adapters and any adapters can lead to you getting shocked regardless. So if anyone has any suggestions let me know, I would like to use this charger as a At home charger or my mobile charger when I go to school. Thanks!

"drying it out" does nothing as per the acid in the soda and sticky corrosive sugar and acid left behind.
Youve gone thru $100 worth of effort in repairing a $60 charger, and plan on more effort.
Either a used charger online would be a cheaper option and better than possibly causing logic board damage to your macbook Air.

  • OSX Caps Lock stuck on (not a sticky keyboard)

You see this question posted frequently, and I have searched exhaustively to find the right solution for my problem, to no avail.
Occasionally, my iMac will get into a funky mode where EVERTHING I TYPE IS IN CAPITAL LETTERS, regardless of the status of Caps Lock. Yes, I know, it's annoying. But it's more than just annoying because it makes it impossible to unlock the screen and I have to reboot, losing unsaved work in the process. ARGH!
You're probably already thinking of all the silly solutions; removing cracker crumbs or grape jelly from under the keys, unplugging/replugging the USB keybard or trying a different keyboard. Let me save us both some time, because it's not that obvious. I ask you to put your thinking cap on, because right now my screen is locked and I would rather not have to reboot. My wife has some unsaved work that I don't want to lose! Do you accept the challenge? Thanks! Here's what we know, and some of the things we can rule out:
    * This has been known to happen while I am typing.
    * The only solution I have found to restore normal behavior is a simple reboot, which resolves the problem every time.
    * It is not a bad keyboard. The same behavior is exhibited by known good USB and Bluetooth OEM keyboards, as well as a third aftermarket keyboard.
    * The Caps Lock keys on ALL THREE keyboards are working properly, as demonstrated by the Caps Lock LED toggling on/off with each press of the key.
    * However, the Caps Lock indicator in the Password field STAYS ON and does NOT toggle when the key is pressed!
    * No key behavior has been changed from their default Preferences.
    * This was happening with the factory install of Lion, and has continued after the in-house upgrade to Mt Lion.
    * This occurs only once every two months or so, which is why I have never got around to opening a ticket with Apple.
All of this leads me to believe that there is nothing wrong with my computer. I believe that, quite by accident, I fat-finger some magical key combination that triggers this behavior. Unfortunately, I can never figure out what I've done, or how to get it back to normal without rebooting the darn thing. Until I can figure out what triggers this behavior (and so presumably will be able to toggle back to normal when it occurs), I think my best workaround is to use a password that has all upper case letters so at least I can unlock it when it does happen. Unfortunately, right now I am still facing losing work due to a reboot if I can't find a real solution.
    Suggestions? Advice? SOLUTIONS????

Hi Donna, if you've already rebooted, try this workaround...
    System Preferences>Keyboard>Modifier keys>Caps Lock=no action.

    Hi,
I your notebook still under warranty?  If it is, you will need to contact HP and arrange to have the notebook repaired under warranty.
If you live in the US, contact HP Here.
If you are in another part of the world, start Here.
If you're out of warranty, I would suggest getting an estimate ( and a confirmation of the diagnosis ) from a local computer repair shop.  If the actual processor chip is faulty, this is far easier to replace than say a fault with the graphics chip ( which usually means a new Motherboard ) and so may well be worth the expense.
