Cap4: turning on skin affects movie size

We do not use a LMS to display swf files. Instead, we use
.asp files for web pages where we have a "Start" button that opens
a window with set dimensions equal to the size of our swf movies
(1000 w x 625 h in pixels) and loads the movie (users cannot resize
window). In Cap3 using skin, and Cap4 not using skin, swfs fill the
open window as designed. In Cap4 with skin on, same movie resizes
in window, shrinking on both left and right, leaving white space.
Adding 40 pixels to height of window to account for additional
space used by skin just shrinks display on left, right, AND bottom
for movie.
Has anyone else encountered this/have a solution?
Thanks.

I'm not aware of any way in FCE to convert material from interlaced to progressive. You can deinterlace material, but I don't think you can convert it to progressive.
If I were going to do it, I'd use MPEG Streamclip to convert the material before importing it into FCE. Keep in mind, however that FCE only supports 720p progressive and yes the file sizes will be larger because you actually have to convert to Apple Intermediate Codec, and I think 720P AIC runs about 25GB per hour. (DV is only about 13 GB per hour).
You might see some difference between interlaced & progressive video on a computer LCD, but I don't think it will be much different.
I'd suggest looking at Graeme Nattress' excellent Film Effects filters to achieve more of a 'film look'.
What is your goal in trying to do this? (Not just that you want a film look, but what is your target - DVD, TV, HDTV, web video, etc?)

  • IMovie 6 HD - Export Movie Size Question

There is a confusing list of movie export size options that I need to get your clarification about. Some of the selections seem to be similar.
To see what I am referring to go into iMovie HD 6, under the SHARE menu, go to Save Movie For: Expert Settings Export Settings > Select Movie to QuickTime Movie (then hit the options tab to the right > Under the Video Section, select SIZE - note the Export Size Settings - DImensions drop down list. Note there are two sections. The last two items in the top section listed are (exactly worded as) 1280 x 720 HD and 1920 X 1080 HD. In the bottom section the last three entries are HD 1280 x 720 16:9, HD 1440 x 1080 16:9 and HD 1920 x 1080 16:9. What's the difference, for example, between the 1280 x 780 HD and the bottom one HD 1280 x 780 16:9? I ask because my HD camcorder movie footage (shot at 1080i, 29.97, 16:9) with an HV30 exports smooth at 1280x720 HD but jerky at HD 1280 x 780 16:9. They sound the same, but one is jerky and one smooth.
The other question I have is 1440x1040 is 4:3 ratio. But it exports at 16:9 aspect ratio. I don't understand why.

    Donna:
While I have a lot of video editing experience with an SD digital camcorder, the Canon HV30 HDV cam is new to me. So I am experimenting. That said, footage that will be shot will end up in a couple of places. Some of it will be passed onto my company's web master for posting to the web in some kind of Flash video format. Other video will be used in Keynote presentations as full screen video clips. Others will be used as source video for creating 4x3 SD clips for PowerPoint on a PC by others. So, the video will be used in different formats. (In what format to shoot is another question, but I have concluded (I hope correctly) that I should just shoot HDV 1080i since it seems to be the easiest to deal with for uploading to iMovie6 HD.)
The purpose of my inquiry was to determine what the various selections are used for and what they do. Sometimes the video is jerky, sometimes an identical movie size is smooth (but must be rendered or processed differently). I was only trying to determine why there appeared to be repetative choices in the list of movie sizes as I mentioned in my original post. To be blunt, iMovie 6 HD documentation is spotty at best. The O"Reilly books don't cover the hard parts.

  • When I download pictures from my camera, they turn out a nice big size in iPhoto; other pictures that have been e-mailed to me or imported from older libraries/other computers show up small.  Why is this, and how can I make them all the larger size?

When I download pictures from my digital camera into iPhoto, they turn out a nice large size (usually almost the full screen), but when somebody e-mails me pictures and I import them into iPhoto, or when I transfer old photos from an old library into my new iPhoto library, they turn out very small--not exactly thumbnail-size, but too small to use for calendars or photo books.  I don't know much about computers, so I don't know how this happened.  Also, I can't find any discernible pattern to why this happens with some pictures and not others--ie: what I described above is usually true, but I have had e-mailed photos or old photos turn out the way I want them, which is in the larger size in iPhoto.  Why is this happening, and how can I make all the pictures the larger size?

Some mail programs, including Apple Mail, can reduce the size of images that are attached to a message. It's happening at the sender's end, and all you can do is ask the sender for a larger image.

  • HT1657 How can I turn off the scrolling movie ads in itunes store?

How can I turn off the scrolling movie ads across the top of the screen when I open the itunes store and am in the movies section?

    Thanks varjak paw.
I was afraid this was the case.  To the degree that Apple marches down this well-travelled road towards making money by trying to pound customers into submission with flashing ads, etc. that actually serve only to aggravate and drive away at least people like me (28 year user of macs) from both Apple and whatever is being advertised, and indeed get in the way of my being able to efficiently do what is my part of what I always thought was the core of the synergism between Apple and its customers -- them innovating to provide the best tools to help us to be creative and productive, then the company will find itself sharing that space with myriad other companies so bankrupt for ideas and innovation that they have no other possible strategy that to promote mindless consumerism.  That does not seem a place of strength for Apple and a complete forfeiting of its unique position.  Sad to watch.

  • Is there a movie size limit for iWeb published in MobileMe?

I'm having trouble creating a movie page in iWeb. There's an error when I try to publish it to MobileMe.
Is there a movie size limit? The video is 20 MB.

I don't know what the limit is but iWeb often indicates 10MB or less is preferred. There are alternatives to adding larger movies to a web page that don't require the movie to load until the play button is selected. See this demo page for one method: Opening Item in a New, Precisely Sized Window. A demo page with 7 movie files using this method can see here: PhotoPresenter Animated Slideshow Themes.
This second page has the other method. It is a little more involved but works nicely. Again, the move doesn't have to load until the play button is selected. It's the movie here: QT Movies via Export for Web in QT Player.

  • Creating a PDF with automatic page turn after playing a movie

Is there anyway to create a pdf where pages get turned automatically after a movie has been played? Simply put, I need to create a slideshow with both movies and images, and with an automatic page turn every x seconds the movies might be either too short or too long.

Did you ever figure this out? I would love to know.

  • How do you reduce a movie size in iMovie 10 to upload to youtube?

how do you reduce a movie size in iMovie 10 to upload to youtube?

Go to File>Share>File, choose the size (probably should choose either SD or Large) then click Next, give it a name, then click Save.
Go to iDVD. Go to File>Import>Video and select the file you just created. It will bring the video into your iDVD project.
This was always the way I did it in the previous version of iMovie. Works just fine.

  • Please Help!!!!!dynamically changing a flash movies size...

Hi i'm working on my final year dissertation and have become
intensely stressed out/frustrated & almost mental in achieving
    this particular aim!!!!
what i need to know is how to
dynamically change a flash movies document size in real time,
without squashing or stretching the content, much like the banner
adds frequently seen on hotmail by companies such as orange, lexus
etc.. where the flash movies size expands on interaction
Help on this will be greatly greatly appreciated!!
    Thank you.

RE: "P.S. I  found it aggravating that I couldn't copy and paste text  here, it wanted me to insert as a link or an image, how do you insert plain  text?"
I take it you tried using the "right click" menu?   That doesn't seem to work, as you noted, but, you should be able to paste text by pressing your CTRL key  and while holding it down, press the "V" letter  key.
    CTRL + C = COPY
    CTRL + X = CUT
    CTRL + V = PASTE

You should be able to change the product name in Google Cloud.  The ChromeBook uses Google Cloud to print (Google Cloud uses HP ePrint).  Log into your google account and change the printer name there.

  • What does not affect the size of the classfile

    Hi
does inclusion of extra whitespaces affect the size of the classfile (that gets created after compiling).
does inclusion of java comments increases the size of the classfile.
are there any other things that when included, does not affect the size of the classfile.

Madhu_1980Shouldn't you be worried about getting your program working by using the right constructs rather than constructs which result in a smaller .class file?
Are you restricted on the sizes of your .class files?

  • Is there a possibility print settings ( scaling) to affect the size of the document?

    Dear Friends
    my question is this
is there a possibility the print settings (scaling in the print window) of a document in AI CS4 to affect the size of the document when is saved as PDF file ?
the reason i am asking is that we have a dispute with a printer
the project was designed in Illustrator CS4 and it was saved as PDF
he claims the pdf document we gave him was scaled down ( due to the scaling we used in the print window when we were printing the document for proof reading )
he says the document when it was saved as pdf it kept those print settings and it scaled down the document size
i asked around various people and all of them said thats not possible
i just want an answer from an adobe expert...
    thank you in advance

    aspyro,
the printing house that produced our leaflet claims that the artwork we gave them was at a wrong size ( slightly smaller than the intented document size) we carefully examined both illustartor files ( where the project was originally designed ) and pdf ( as it was saved as after completion ) and both of them were correct when it comes to document sizethe printing house claims that the settings we had at the print window ( lets say 50% scaling) affected the output size of the document when it was saved as pdf ( and the document size was reduced at the half)
    is this possible?
In the PDF Print dialog, there is an option, Expand small pages to paper size; it is necessary to tick that if the PDF is A5 and you wish to print as A4 or similar (you can see by switching it on and off), but it is only relevant if there is a page.
The opposite option, Shrink oversized pages to paper size, may yield a slight reduction, maybe to 99% or so, even if you seem to have the correct page size.
Did you Save As PDF or Print to PDF?

  • Changing Default Movie Size

Due to some limitations, i need to change the default movie size form 720x480 to something like 240x180. I haven't found a way to do this.
    Does anyone have a suggestion?

Use a different program, and don't expect to be able to create a DVD... as far as I know, that size is not supported by the DVD specification
