  • 10g Grid missing 9i Capacity Planner

Since 10g Grid is missing the capacity planner that 9i had, has anyone created any reports that mimic the behavior of the old capacity planner.
We are most interested in CPU, Memory and Disk I/O charts over a time period. The reports generated from the performance page of the host target just won't do what we need to see any capacity trends.
It it can't be done in Grid, can anyone recomend a product that could replace the functionality of the old capacity planner.

We have the same complaint. My argument is always, "dont put out anything that isnt better than the previous product". Different is boldNOT better, darn it.
We loved capacity planner to monitor tablespace growth. We want to be sure to identify blips in growth over time. Yes, we can write our own...but why should we considering it was in last product?? We are DBAs not Grid Control developers. It kinda pushes us into the realm of HP OpenView...we can write a ton of stinking reports there also...but didnt cause it was already in 9i OEM.

have you found a site which publishes interesting reports or have you been sucked into extensibility??

  • Capacity Planner - What metrics datas are sent across to VMware

Hi, I'm looking for some detail information of the capacity planner data that is going out of customer environment. This is needed for a migration project that I'm current working on it, where we do lot of P2V consolidation. The environment is a secure environment and the security team is concerned about the data been sent across and the performance of production servers for financial institution.
Even though there are options to hide all the information like server names or domain information, I would like to see some sample data analysis to look at it and to know what encryption is used to transmit data over to VMware. I looked at partner central and other sources on the web, but hard to find detail information. Can anyone share some information please? Many thanks in advance, Siva

    Thanks Arthur for the document.

  • Hyper-V Replica Capacity Planner stuck getting VM information

I'm trying to use the Capacity Planner for Hyper-V replica tool to estimate requirements for a replica site.
It keeps getting stuck "Getting the VM and VHD from primary site, this can take upto several minutes...". I've waited over an hour, and it still sits there.
The primary site is a 3 node Hyper-V 2012R2 cluster. I have installed and configured the Hyper-V Replication Broker role on the cluster. For now, it's set to use HTTP without any certificates.
I don't have a replica site yet, so I've selected "Skip tests involving Replica site". For the primary site, I've tried pointing it at both the replication broker, and at one of the individual nodes. It gets stuck in the same place.
    Other things I've tried:
Disabled windows firewall on all 3 nodes
Running the tool from one of the nodes, logged in as a domain admin account
Moving all the VMs off of one node, and pointing the tool at that now empty node
Let it run for longer - left it alone overnight.
Downloaded the tool again in case it was corrupt
    Rebooted my computer
In all cases, it gets stuck at the exact same spot.
Any idea how to figure out why it is freezing? Have I missed configuring something important for the tool to run?

    Hi Grant,
    Thanks for your reply.
The tool and documentation have been updated for Windows Server 2012 R2
and can be download from here:

Would you please update it and see if it helps.

  • Error when opening Capacity Planner and Performance Manager

    Hello,
I am having an error when opening Performance Manager or Capacity Planner under 9i OEM in our environment. I started at the company about 2 months ago, and have not used these tools until yesterday - and just found these errors. Below is a link to a screenshot of the errors. Does anybody have any ideas?

Which are the contents of the log file produced during installation of OEM...????
OEM was installed on its host machine about 4 years ago, long before I started with this company. I don't know if the logs are still there or not. Where should I be looking?
Do all other parts of OEM operate successfully...????
Yes, everything besides Cap Planner & Perf Mgr.
Is this in Standalone Mode or Oracle Management Server Mode?
The issue occurs in both modes.

  • Impact on physcial machines and network when running Capacity Planner.

I need to find a white paper or an app note that explains how Capacity Planner collects data from physical machines.  I seem to have been pulled into the middle of a squabble between IT staff members that has the manager halting a virtualization project.  I have a virtual server running the Collector for Capacity Planner for 157 machines discovered in the customers network.  The Collector has been working fine, I am getting the inventory data I need to get on all systems except one.  At the request of the customer, I disabled the host name mask so we could see real host names in the report.  I also disabled the WMI checking since it only worked on half of my customers machines.  Using the Registry setting has gotten the inventory on all machines except one.  This one machine (an email server) has very strict administration control that is preventing the Collector service user from connecting.  When my contact and I tried to gain the needed access, our project was halted because the email server admin report an enormous amount of connection attempts from the Collection server that caused an issue with the mail server (was never able to get specifics on the issue).  This caused the manager to error on the side of caution and halt the project since the mail server admin believed the Collector caused his server issues.  My contact and I will be removing the mail server from the virtualization project, but to get the manager to allow the project to continue, I need to put something in her hands that explains how the Collector is getting it's data.  I have tried my self explaining it, but she is insisting on something from VMWare that explains how the collector is getting the data.  I know it is active collection, and as far as I know it just uses the built in WMI or Remote Registry services to request monitoring data that causes no impact to system performance.  I will be searching for an app note or a white paper or a KB article today, I would greatly appreciate if someone already knows of something that can settle this argument for me and help me get this project back on track.
    thank you

Almost same setting here, same troubles.
If I restart them via Screen Sharing via the Restart Button on the Login Window, they sometimes show up correctly. But this is way too annoying.

  • OEM Capacity Planner - location of help definitions for data items

Does anyone know the location of the help definitions for the OEM Capacity Planner data items? In the GUI, these definitions are accessible individually from Help > Selected Item. The definition provides a description, source, and user action.
I would like to consolidate these into a glossary for our users of OEM C.P., as well as in a planning document.

  • Where's the Oracle Capacity Planner?

    Hi,
Does anybody know where the Capacity Planner for Oracle Database is located in Oracle Enterprise Manager?
Because I don't have this option in My Enterprise Manager Console.
    Thanks in advance,

    Thanks a lot,
But I'm currently using Oracle (R) Enterprise Manager
    Version 2.2.0.0.0
And again, there is no "Capacity Planner" in Tools menu :-)
Maybe I need to install another version of EM or I should select a specific item under Network node to meke this menu item visible ???

Have Vmware been able to get any further with the log off issue affecting Capacity Planner? I've tried using both ie10 in compatibility mode and Firefox 34.0.5
Its making trying to use the console incredibly difficult
    Thanks

    Hi all,
VMware apologizes for the issues you're facing, while we have been working to resolve these issues, we understand your frustration and difficulties with Capacity Planner. Unfortunately it is not a simple fix and the solution involves upgrading all of the dashboard infrastructure with many moving parts and dependencies. We are getting close to a resolution and will keep you posted on our progress.

  • VMware Capacity Planner Dashboard - Constant Logouts

    Hello all,
I've been having an issue with the cap planner dashboard / portal over at optimize.vmware.com, in that it constantly logs me out and goes back to the login screen. At times I am able to stay logged into for 2 or 3 minutes before it logs me out, which is hardly enough time to setup projects and configure reports.
I've tried working from different networks using Chrome, Firefox and 3 versions of Internet Explorer, including 9, 10 and 11. I've disabled cookies, cleared cache. nothing seems to help and I just cannot get a long enough logged in session in order to do any meaningful work.
Before I raise a support request with VMware, I thought it would be good to see if anyone else is having this issue?
    Thanks
    Rynardt

I am experiencing the same behavior. Called VMware two weeks ago and after being transferred around technical support for two hours I was finally connected to an engineer who said they were aware of the issue and the portal team was working on it.

  • Lync 2013 Capacity Planner 20 User Help

    Hey guys,
I have an organization of 20 users and am considering Lync since we want to replace our PBX any way which is a discontinued Nortel BCM.
Did I complete this correctly for 20 users and want to assume they have every available feature enabled.
    See Here http://i.imgur.com/nbCoFf5.png
Question 1: So if this is correct I only need 1 virtual server that would be Front End and assign 20GB of ram?
Question 2: Would this still require an edge if I want my users to be able to use their mobile devices and allow non employees to dial in for conferences and etc?
Question 3: Any this would require a maximum of 100mb of bandwidth to achieve this at full load?
Question 4: We currently have a PRI of 16 lines and paying about $600 a month. I am thinking that we could save a good chunk of cash going to pure VOIP sip from an online provider. Any recommendation on this?
I was thinking of going with
http://www.ietherspeak.com/microsoft-sip/index.htm since they are a recommended Microsoft Lync provider. But the main issue is I cant afford for quality to be poor when in the office my CEO needs crystal clear audio to be happy.
Question 5: We currently have a fiber internet connection of 20 MB which is used for regular web surfing and windows updates. Do you think we would need to upgrade our speed on this for clear audio or should a QoS on the switch be sufficient?
If this matters I do want my employees to be able to use their mobile phones (iPhones and my Android) to be able to work from home to cover business continuity if there was a disaster but the only people who would use it normally would be 3 people) CEO being
    one.
Any help on this is greatly appreciated.

Your calculator looks mostly correct, but honestly for an organization of your size, there won't be a significant change if you tweak the numbers slightly.
1.) Yes and no.  The Front End server will get you all the functionality, but only internally.  If you want to support external access to Lync meetings, the use of Lync outside the office, and the new Lync 2013 mobile client, then you will also
need an Edge server (separate server), and some way to publish Lync Front End Web Services externally.
2.) Yes, you will want an Edge server.  The Edge server will allow your company to use Lync externally (remote sign-in), other users outside your org to join web conferences, and the new mobile platform.  Anyone joining a conference call from a
non-Lync endpoint (cell phone, home phone, etc) will come in across the PSTN which does not go through the Edge.
3.) The 100 MB figure you see is related to the Front End server, and not specifically your internet bandwidth requirement.  You will want your servers and switches on your LAN to run at 1 Gbps.  Is your internet connection 20 Mbps down/20 Mbps
up or something else?  There are many other factors which may go into determining if your existing internet throughput is sufficient.
4.) 16 POTS lines seems like overkill for an office of 20 users, but once you start hosting conference calls, depending on the number of dial-in attendees may quickly consume these channels.  You could potentially save some $$$ by moving to a SIP trunk
(any of the Lync certified vendors will be fine), but again that depends on some further calculations.  If you plan on keeping your existing 16 POTS lines, you will also need a VOIP gateway to bridge Lync and a the Public Telephone Network.
5.) You will not be able to get QoS over the internet if you are looking at a SIP trunk.  There is just no way to guarantee that type of service once it hits the public internet.  That said, we have had a pretty good experience with SIP trunks,
and assuming you select a Lync certified provider, you will not notice any difference in quality.
In regard to business continuity - remember that the extension of your office phone number to your Lync mobile client is still done via your office internet/PSTN connection.  If you office gets hit with a disaster, there will be no Lync server to relay
the call to your mobile.  In that case, you would want to call your telecom carrier and ask to have those numbers forwarded to their respective cell phone numbers.

  • Capacity planner inventory reports stuck at queued

    "waiting to run"
What can I do to get jobs to run? I've imported a .csv and all the objects are listed, but I can't get the initial inventory to start.
    Suggestions?

did you make sure to add systems to the project?  This same message happens when you do upload, but no systems are on the project.  This typically happens when you create the company and project FIRST, then attach a collector afterwards.
    http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1034417
If you create a company, but no project, attach collector and upload, then make a project ... then systems are available in the wizard during Project creation.
