Capacity reservation in SCM 5.1

Hi Gurus,
We are trying to configure the capacity reservation functionality in SCM 5.1. We followed all the steps indicated in this link
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_scm2007/helpdata/en/6b/41fc3e9d3b6927e10000000a114084/frameset.htm
However, when we create PIR against a particular descriptive characteristics, eventhough the requirement is within the limits of reservation, the planned order created is consuming the Unreserved Capacity (Released).
Have anyone used this functionality or any thoughts on this issue?
Thanks,
Rajesh Manoharan

    Hi Ambrish,
PPDS capacity reservation functionality available from version  SCM 5.1 onwards. for your requirement you can reserve the capacity  at resource level  for product.
To archive this requirement, you need to do
u2022Create Planning Object Structure (POS) with the required characteristics (Product & Location mandatory)
u2022Create a planning area assigning the planning object structure
u2022Create Characteristics Value Combination (CVC) in the POS
    u2022Maintain Capacity Reservation Group (resource)
u2022In Product Master > Demand Tab> assign the consumption group
Result: .     Planned order gets created for the demand based on the allocated quantity for the particular period
please let me know if you have any further question

  • Capacity Reservation Table for a planned order

    Dear experts,
When I look at MD13, I can see the capacity requirement for a planned order.  I can also see the requirements build up in my CM01 screen.  We would like to pull the data into our BW system, but we are having issues finding where the capacity reservation information resides.  When I look at table KBEZ, I can only find values that correspond to production orders.  Is there a similar table for planned orders?  Does SAP save the detailed scheduling infromation for planned orders in a table somewhere, or is this calculated at the time MD13 or CM01 is run?
    Thanks,
    Matthew Bruckner

Have you tried with KBED? I can see with SE16 that you have a field for selection with the planned order number....

  • APO Capacity Reservation Characteristic is not valid

    Hello
We are trying to setup a scenario for capacity reservation for customers wherein we want to reserve capacity for certain customers. We did the following setup as mentioned in help
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_scm70/helpdata/EN/46/19bf1f8716424fe10000000a1553f6/frameset.htm
    1) Setup consumption group: Included our custom DP characteristics & assigned them to standard infoobjects MATNR, WERKS, KUNNR
    2) Setup forecast at material, location & customer level in DP planning area
    3) Maintained consumption group in release profile as well as product master with planning strategy.
    4) Released the data to order series & descriptive characteristics are correctly visible via green icon at material, plant & customer level.
    5) Created capacity reservation group via customising: Assigned consumption group & selected KUNNR as characteristic for maintaining reservations.
    6) Assigning capacity reservation group to resource via PPDS bucket tab: Here we took time continuous capacity in bucket definition field, bucket schema as day, finite capacity as bucket capacity.
In next step clicking on capacity reservation & selecting characteristic, it gives error saying reservation characteristic is not valid & does not allow us to maintain reservations for the characteristic
Please let us know if any setting has been missed. Thanks in advance
P.S: The pre-requisite in sap help link above mentions assigning consumption group to resource. But was not able to find how to do this. Only the capacity reservation group is allowed to be added.
    Best Regards
    Satish

    Hello Manimaran
    Thanks for reply.
The consumption group is maintained correctly with the correct planning area. The planning area is correctly initialised & we are checking the resource against the same version only.
As mentioned, the forecast was correctly released from DP to order series with required descriptive characteristics.
The issue is occuring while selecting the characteristic. As soon as we select characteristic from pop up, the error appears.
    mentioning  reservation characteristic is invalid.
In the popup there are two columns (characteristic & descriptive characteristic), However onlky the characteristics column is shown which is picked from the capacity reservation group (i.e. if we remove the characteristic from capacity reservation group, it gets removed from popup as well). I guess the error is occuring due to the column descriptive characteristic which is missing.
    Please advice. Thanks in advance

  • Missing reservations in SCM, probably deleted CIF queue records

    Dear experts,
Here's a very annoying problem... During initial CIF execution, someone probably deleted some queue records concerning reservations. At least that's what we suspect has happened.
The initial CIF execution was done on 1 April, and the reservations for that day are partially missing in APO.
In ERP, we have table RESB with a certain sum of withdrawal quantity for each product.
In SCM, in product view, the withdrawal quantity in forecast should be exactly the same, but the records for 1 April are not considered in that quantity. For some other products, the allocated quantity differs from ERP as well.
How this inconsistency was created isn't really important now... But has anyone here any idea how to quickly fix the quantities in APO forcast? Like any BAPI or programme or anything?
    Thanks a lot!
    Jan
P.S: I forgot to mention: The documents in ERP are closed by now, so a new initial CIF execution wouldn't bring the old reservations to APO.

  • Error-maintaing Reservation Characteristic in Resource (Capa Reservation)

Hi All, we are trying to implement Capacity Resolution scenario on APO SCM7.0
While maintaining Descriptive Characteristic in the Resource, we are getting error: u201CThe Reservation Characteristic is not validu201D (as mentioned in step 6). The related message number is u201C/SAPAPO/CAPREV003u201D.
    We have done following setup:
    1. Maintained the field catalog containing the required fields/characteristic (MATNR, WERKS, KUNNR)
    2. Maintained a consumption group.
    3. Maintained Capacity Reservation Group containing consumption group with all characteristic
    4. Assigned the consumption group to the product master. (Demand tab page of the location-product). Assigned requirements strategy = 20 (Planning with final assembly) u2026 u2026 suitable for descriptive characteristics.
    5. Maintained a (PP/DS) Time Continuous Resource
    6. Need to maintain Capacity Reservation Group & Characteristic for the resource. For that we followed: Tab-PP/DS Bucket Cap. --> Button-Capacity Reservation. But, while maintaining Descriptive Characteristic, we are getting error: u201CThe Reservation Characteristic is not validu201D.
    Query:
    (a) When we do F4 in Characteristic under Descriptive Characteristic, we can view two columns Char. & Descriptive Char. In the column Characteristic the 3 fields are present. But against these 3 fields no value is present in the column descriptive Characteristic. Is it the reason for issue, If yes, what can be the fix.
    Characteristic     Descriptive Characteristic
    KUNNR
    MATNR
    WERKS
    (b) Is it required to assign Capacity Reservation Group to Resource? If yes, How/where?
    7. In Demand Planning created a master planning object structure containing the descriptive characteristics. (also Planning Area)
    8. Created characteristic value combinations that include the values of the descriptive characteristics
    9. Created a forecast for the product using Demand Planning functionality.
    10. Released the Forecast to SNP. The descriptive characteristic can be verified in product view (after clicking on the triangle).
    Thanks & Regards,
    Milind Joshi

    Hi Milind,
Have you maintained number range intervals for capacity reservations?
Please refer the SAP note 1073568 for more details.
    Also, please check the following,
    1. in consumption group creation you maintained the correct planning area.
    2. You have initiated planning version for your planning area.
    3. You have used the same planning version in your resource.
Since the Characteristic values in MPOS are linked to Capacity reservation Group through Planning Area, there may be some inconsistency in these settings only.
Also refer the SAP note 1368244 if it is helpful,
    Regards,

  • Integration of customers and vendors- customer exit for renaming

We are planning to use customers for capacity reservation functionality and vendors for subcontracting in APO.
Due to this, we will need Vendors and Customers in APO.
Currently some plants are using same number range for customers and vendors.
So, we will have to rename either customer number or vendor number.
In such situation, do you recommend renaming customer number or Vendor number?
Do you see impact of renaming customer or vendor in above processes?
Can you please e-mail me which customer exit  I should use and steps that should be followed for renaming?
    Thanks,

    Your problem:
Different location types with the same name or number in the external system. For example, a customer and a supplier both have the number 1000. This problem occurs especially with vendor and customer numbers.
    You can do the following:
    described in SAP Note 458914.
Activate BAdI Implementation for Location Prefix
    Procedure
    1.     Access the activity using one of the following navigation options:
SAP SCM Menu     Tools  Customizing  IMG  Execute Project  SAP Reference IMG  SAP Implementation Guide  SCM Basis  Integration  BAdIs for Specific Applications  Location and Business Partner  BAdI: Inbound Processing for Location
    Transaction Code     SPRO
    2.     In the Business Add-Ins: All Implementations for Definition SMOD_APOCF001 dialog box, go to the Defined filters table and select the suitable implementation for your problem situation, for example:
    Field Name     Entry Value
    Bus. add-in implementation name     APOCF001_TYPEDIF
Implementation short text     Locations of different type with similar names
    3.     Choose Change.
    4.     Confirm the warning message.
    5.     On the Business Add-In Builder: Change Implementation APOCF001_TYPEDIF screen, choose Activate business add-in implementation.
    6.     In the Prompt for transportable Workbench request dialog box, enter a workbench request and press ENTER.
    7.     Choose the Back pushbutton (F3) twice.

  • When planned orders can reserve capacity

    hi experts.
after MRP Run i had 3 planned orders, one of them for safety stoock and the others for PIR , and i converted one of Planned orders (For PIR) to Production order,,,,,,,,,,,,,when i made capacity evaluation for the work center using CM01........i found capacity requirements made for Production order and PIR Planned order but no requirements for safety stock order????  whyyyyyyyyyyy?
I want to know when planned orders can reserve capacity and when they cant.
    thank you

    Abobakr,
I believe you are talking about creation of capacity requirements, not reservation of capacity.
Planned orders will create capacity requirements when
    1.  They are configured to generate capacity requirements during Detailed scheduling (OPU5)
    2.  They have been Detailed scheduled (either manually, or using MRP Scheduling 2 ''Lead time scheduling and capacity planning')
    3.  They are scheduled using a valid Routing which contains a capacity consuming (finite) work center in one of their operations.
A common reason to see planned orders that are not detailed scheduled is because of the way MRP is run, using Basic dates instead of lead time scheduling.  Another common reason is that the routing is invalid, particularly due to the planned order containing dates that are outside the routing's effectivity dates.

  • Reserve Capacity for rush orders

    Dear Gurus,
How can I reserve work center capacity for rush orders?
Whatt are the settings for the same?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    RG

    RG,
This is a business question, not an SAP question.  I will assume that you have fully thought out all the implications of 'reserving' capacity.
One standard way is to maintain the unreserved capacity in your work center as your actual capacity.  Then, when the rush order appears, create a capacity interval in your work center, that reflects the increased capacity required, for the duration required.
Another traditional way is to create a dummy material which consumes the same capacities as regular materials.  Create and dispatch  a dummy production order for this material that consumes the amount of capacity you wish to reserve.  Keep moving the due date farther into the future as the days of capacity consumption approach "today'.  When you actually have to dispatch the rush order, move the dummy order into the future such that the capacity you want is freed.  Then, enter your new order and dispatch it to take the capacity.
    Rgds,

  • Capacity Leveling in SNP SCM 5.0

    Hi,
I want to use the SNP heuristic followed by capacity leveling in order to enable my customer to check capacity requirements in terms of machine and people resources. The particular requirements are:
    1. no backward/forward capacity leveling
    2. level the capacity across alternate resources
I don't see how I can do 2 without doing 1. I haven't seen a parameter about the number of days allowed in backward/forward leveling (which I would set to zero or to a low number e.g. 2 days)
    Best Regards,
    JL

I dont think you should be using the standard capacity levelling functionality at all if you are not going to level it forward or backward
What you need to think of is planning using Aggregated resources.
In a nutshell you creatae new header resources that are of capacity equivalent to your resources plus alternate resources
Do SNP plannign on the aggregated ( header )resource
Level or trim any excess capacity requirements (levelling wouldve done this for you but you got to specify the direction)
Disaggregate to the member resources based on some disaggregation rules (or you can customize this)

  • Battery Calibration and Charge Capacity?

I am currently using a PB G4 15" (high res DL SD) and I've had it for about a month. I just read about calibrating the battery and went ahead and did it. Have I done any damage to the battery or shortened it's effectiveness by waiting a month to calibrate rather than when it was first out of the box?
Also, i also just read about checking the battery charge capacity using the system profiler. My charge capacity prior to calibration was 2731 and after calibration it's 2930. However, it sounds like it should be in the 4400's based on the posts I've read. What do these numbers mean and do I have a faulty battery since it's so low?
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi Kevin --
Yeah, I'm not loving those numbers you posted either. I'd try performing the calibration procedure once or twice more to make sure that that battery capacity number doesn't change.
The other thing I would do if I were you is download Coconutbattery: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/27425
It's a free app available at versiontracker and it will tell you your battery's original capacity as well as it's current capacity.
I agree with you that a capacity of 2930 mAh after only a month of use and 16 cycles suggests that your battery is defective and should be replaced at no cost to you under the terms of the warranty.
For a frame of reference, after 10 months of use and 166 load cycles, my battery's original capacity of 4400 mAh is now 4228 mAh. No way yours should be in the 2930 mAh range.
When you call AppleCare to arrange for a replacement, if in fact that's what you end up needing to do, the agent you speak with, in addition to making sure that you've properly calibrated your battery a few times (as mentioned earlier) may also ask that you reset your PB's Power Management Unit (PMU). While I'm skeptical that a PMU reset will alter the outcome, you can find instructions on how to reset the PMU here (just in case you need to): http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=14449
Good luck and please post back how everything turns out.
    -- JDee
PS. You probably know this, but the calibration procedure has been changed slightly for your DL hi-res version of the PB. Here it is below, just to make sure:
    PowerBook G4 (15-inch Double-Layer SD)
The battery calibration for the PowerBook G4 (15-inch Double-Layer SD) has been updated because of a new battery released with this computer. With these computers, follow these steps to calibrate your battery:
Plug in the power adapter and fully charge your PowerBook's battery until the light ring on the power adapter plug changes to green and the onscreen meter in the menu bar indicates that the battery is fully charged.
Allow the battery to rest in the fully charged state for at least two hours. You may use your computer during this time as long as the adapter is plugged in.
Disconnect the power adapter with the computer still on and start running the computer off battery power. You may use your computer during this time. When your battery gets low, you will see the low battery warning dialog on the screen.
Continue to keep your computer on until it goes to sleep. Save all your work and close all applications when the battery gets very low, before the computer goes to sleep.
Turn off the computer or allow it to sleep for five hours or more.
Connect the power adapter and leave it connected until the battery is fully charged again.
Tip: When the battery reaches "empty", the computer is forced into sleep mode. The battery actually keeps back a reserve beyond "empty", to maintain the computer in sleep for a period of time. Once the battery is truly exhausted, the computer is forced to shut down. At this point, with the safe sleep function introduced in the PowerBook G4 (15-inch Double-Layer SD) computers, the computer's memory contents have been saved to the hard drive. When power is restored, the computer returns itself to its pre-sleep state using the safe sleep image on the hard drive.

  • SNP Planned order not following resource bucket capacity/factory calendar

    Hi gurus,
    SCM 5.0
I am running SNP heuristics for a product and expecting planned orders for it.  It has corresponding production data structure and multimixed resource.  The resource has an assignd factory calendar and SNP bucket capacity.  The bucket capactiy availablity dates of the resouce is consistent with the factory calendar workdays/holidays.  Using simple lot for lot strategy, I am expecting heuristics to schedule the planned orders on the dates of the demand in compliance with teh SNP bucket capacity availability of the resource.  APO does not schedule on holidays consistent with bucket capactiy.  This is true until...
We have a public holiday in factory calendar that needs to become a workday. To remedy this, we put a special rule for the factory calendar and explicitly made that holiday into a workday.  The changes were synchronized with APO, and this is also reflected in the bucket capacity of the resourc: former holiday now has bucket capacity after the calendar change.  However, when running heuristics, it still does not create SNP planned order on that former holiday that has been changed into workday.  Even if it is a public holiday, there is already a special rule for the factory calendar and the resource bucket capacity reflects this correctly. But SNP heuristics seems not to follow this change.
Any ideas on this? looks like a bug.

    Hi Edgar,
Yes, when your resource reflects the addional capacity of the holiday turned working day, then it is expected to be considered for the SNP planned order.
Instead of SNP heuristics, you may try to check interactively in SNP planning book, if manual order creation in the bucket works out.
Since this is a mutlimix  resource , it can also be checked if in PPDS planned order can be created on the day.
The above checking may not solve your problem , but will get to know if at least manully the bucket is being considered or not.
    regards
    Datta
