Capital projects and Grants Accounting

We looking at the feasibility of creating capital projects in Grants Accounting as part of our R12 project. I need to know whether it is possible to combine non-sponsored capital project types with our existing sponsored projects funded by awards. I have read the White Paper "Oracle Project Management Implemented with Oracle Grants Accounting" but the practical implementation is not clear.

All projects within Grants must be sponsored, even if they have a project type of capital. Due to the overlap in functionality, the use of Projects and Grants in the same OU is not permitted. As detailed in the white paper that you reference, some Projects functionlaity can be leveraged, but in limited capacity. So, you can set up your projects as capital projects in Grants (e.g. with a dummy customer), will this suffice? Is there a specific reason why the projects must be non-sponsored?

Grants Accounting is technically part of the Projects Suite but Project Manufacturing is not. You will find information on Proj Manufacturing in the Discrete Manufacturing area on the Oracle website.

Uploading Projects and Grants through Web ADI

Is it possible to upload both Projects and Grants through a Web ADI?
Do we have to create two separate templates to accomplish this or can it be done through a single template?

I've not run a web gallery where others could contribute to so don't know if the downloads will be the same size as were uploaded. I know that iPhoto will optimize somewhat, i.e. reducing the file size but not the image size. All I can suggest is you create a text gallery, set it for maximum size download, allow others to contribute and have someone upload a file so you can download and test.
Otherwise you could open your Public folder on the iDisk to them and let other upload folders of image files to it. That would be exactly what goes up comes down.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

When to consider Using Oracle Grants Accounting Over Oracle Projects Acct?

Could you please help me in understanding the situation where I must use Oracle grants Accounting rather than Oracle Project Accounting?
I mean what is the driving feature of Oracle Grants Accounting which is missing in Oracle Project Accounting.
Also if I implement Oracle Grants Accounting then is it possible for me to setup oracle project accounting ( costing / billing ) under same environment ? If Yes it is possible to implement under same Environment then is it possible to setup BOTH under same operating Unit?

To address some other points:-
1) Grants Accounting (GMS) uses many of the same database objects as Project Accounting (PA). The best way to think of it is as a "customisation" of Project Accounting; albeit one that has been created by Oracle. For example, when a new grant is created (called an Award, stored in GMS_AWARDS_ALL) a supporting record is also automatically created in PA_PROJECTS_ALL
2) Because of 1), Grants Accounting and Project Accounting cannot be implemented and used independently within the same Operating Unit; Grants is built on Projects. However, some Projects features can still be used directly, such as elements of Project Management as described by the above document
3) Grants tends to only be used within the higher education, research and public sectors. Organisations within these industries typically have complex project funding structures, and have a requirement for tight budgetary control enforced by the system. Grants provides functionality to cater for both of these requirements, better than Projects does on its own. This does of course come at a price; by implementing Grants there are some Projects features that are not available

Message BS013, Retire Asset from Capital Project w/ T-Code ABAON

We have constructed an asset two years ago, using Project Systems and Investment Measures, and now have sold the asset. When retiring the asset using t-code ABAON, we get a message no. BS013.
"Object WBS FVFR09.000002 has system status CLSD (Closed). According to this status, transaction 'FI: Postings' is not allowed.
I can open the Cost Object to get retirement to post, but when I have assets 10 years old and projects have been archieved, I see this as a problem in waiting I would like to resolve now. Also, I should be able to close a capital project and keep it as such, without needing to reopen it when I want to retire any related asset.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

I recommend trying to configure a change control message that would simply give a warning on this type of posting an not an error.

What you suggested is the ideal approach...
However, if they say that the budget allocated to capital purposes (70%) applies to both capital projects and expenses and they would like to control it together, but have reports separately, it is not possible with standard SAP...
If they want to have just one IO for both cap and exp, You can suggest them a work around to capture CAPITAL or EXPENSE in a ref field (XREF1 in BSEG) and you can run KOB1 with XREF1 displayed in it....
In standard KOB1, XREF1 is not displayed, you have to use Exit COOMEP01 to include the fields you want... Add XREF1 to the Structure CI_RKPOS and write your code in the include ZXKAEPU01 of EXIT_SAPLKAEP_001
Without an identifier @ the time of booking the transaction in the system (Either by way of IO or a ref field), you wont be able to generate reports later on

Can some one clarify if a contract project can be treated as a Capital project as well, like have cotract project with the asset information and to be able to tranfer cost into asset
Business needs system to be able to support the billing fundtionality on their contract projects, though it capital project in course of project there might be a need where they capitalize some cost.

You can look at the allocation functionality. Lets say you have the source project as Capital project and the destination project as Contract Project. You can allocate the amount you want to bill the customer by transferring the cost from the capital project to the contract project. You can also look at the allocation client extension to define your custom allocation logic.
This way you may achieve both the functionality.

Grant permission to both FBA and WA account

We have a site(SP 2007) using both FBA and WA. I see both accounts in the peoplpicker: ldapmembershipprovider\user and domain\user.
We have to grant permissions to both accounts. Is there way I can only grant to one account and user can login with both authentication.

I believe you're looking for the GRANT ANY OBJECT PRIVILEGE privilege.
The ANY privileges are all very powerful privileges and they often create opportunities for crafty humans to do things that you might not have anticipated. They are generally frowned upon heavily in any sort of audit situation. I'd be very, very cautious about giving non-DBAs these privileges.
It would make much more sense to me, particularly when you appear to want to restrict things to a single schema, to have a DBA user create a stored procedure that does the actual grant (implementing whatever validations, logging, etc. are appropriate) and grant the user the privilege to execute this stored procedure.

Thanks for your prompt reply. I understand that the issue can be resolved by assigning document type and execute ASKB. At present document type 'AF' is being used for depreciation posting, can we use the same document type for APC value posting or some other document type should be used.

My imovie seems to have completely crashed... and I'm hoping someone can help me. I have moved all my projects and events to a folder on my desktop. I've deleted all the plist files I can find and I still cannot get it to open.

Please help... it seems all is lost as all I kind find on this subject seem to lead to nowhere. My engagement was on imovie, a school project, several videos of our son. You will have to hold my hand through this process... as I am not very good at this type of thing. I believe I have deleted all the necessary plist files and moved my projects and events to a folder on my desktop. imovie has been upgraded to version 9.0.9... Whenever I open it I just get the beachball and then I have to force quit and I get the following report:

Yes this can be many things - and I can only guess/suggest.
A. a very common origin to make the Mac un-happy is to - PANIC-HALT - when the round multicolored thing appear.
So much can go wrong by doing this - and if done often problem builds up that can result in a real disaster.
B. NEVER - move or alter any folder named - iMovie Event's resp. iMovie Project's - as iMovie has no search function - moving them results in that iMovie get's 100% lost.
One can move them - but this HAS TO BE done within the iMovie application (as it is up and running)
C. preference files - there are TWO or more Libraries on Your Mac. First and easy to find is the one You see when opening Your Start-Up Hard Disk window = Root Library == the WRONG ONE
What we need to find is the one in Your User-Account folder (icon as a house) - and this is in Mac OS X.7, X.8 and X.9 HIDDEN. To see it do:
( It can be done like this: Open Terminal, then enter:
chflags nohidden ~/Library
Press return, then restart, and it will always be visible until the next major update, when you do the same thing again. )
or - do like this.
On the Finder window at the top left of the screen,
Hold down the Option key and clicked on Go.
This allowed You to see the Library folder and select it.
Then keep the Option button pressed down in order to see and select the Library folder.
Once found it, You are able to navigate to the iMovie preferences file and move it to the trash. iMovie then start’s up fine!
Now here in Your User Library - find Preferences and trash
com.apple.iMovie.plist
com.apple.iMovie3.plist
com.apple.iMovie7.plist
com.apple.iMovie8.plist
com.apple.iMovie9.plist
com.apple.iMovieApp.plist
and find
com.apple.iApps.plist
While iMovie is NOT RUNNING - move this/these file/s out on to desk-top.
Now restart iMovie.
I Prefere another way to find out if this is the problem.
(after all folders (iMovie Event/Projects are moved into original place)
• go up to Apple Menu
• Down to System Pref's
• Select Accounts - Create a new User
• Go down the Apple menu - Log OUT
• Log into as the new User
Now try iMovie
Does it work at all ? (Yes You don't see Events or Projects in Your original Account just now)
If so - Then we know that there is a corrupted pref file to be trashed.
Else - the problem are much more severe.
D. After Panic Halt / Forced Quit - I always do -. to keep disasters on arms length.
• Repair Permissions (Apple Disk Util tool)
• Start from other HD or DVD - then run Repair Hard Disk (Apple Disk Util tool)

Payment Term changes in Projects and AR

Hi,
Currently all our projects are based on single agreement. recently we had to change the payment term for a Customer. Our Receivables group made this change in AR. We were expecting all the Projects invoices would pick up this , when they are interfaced to AR. But later we realized that the Project invoices go by the payment terms within the agreements.
Again, we created a tar and Oracle suggested that we end date the current agreement and create a new one to match the payment term. But the issue is we have 20000 projects and if we want to change the payment terms in mass, then we need to create 20000 agreements and also, in the future , when accounting changes the payment term, the proejct manager may not know, the term has been changes and to change it in the agreement.
Is there a more practical solution for this issue.

I will suggest another solution if you are in a version that allow you to define Forms Personnalization.
Instead of updating the transaction in AR Interface table, you can, for instance :
- enter a payment term for each of your customer at the header level (table hz_customer_profiles, condition site_use_id is null) ;
- create a Form Personnalization in the Customer Window, so that the Payment Terms is mandatory at the header level ;
- create a Form Personnalization in the Agreement Window, so that once you enter a new Agreement for a customer, the Forms Personalization retrieves automaticaly the payment terms set up for your customer accordingly
We implemented this solution and it works fine too.

Moving an iMovie project from one account to another

I started an iMovie project on my wife's login account but I want to move it to my own login account, including all of the clips and edits associated with the project. Can I do that?

When the projects and events are in your wife's account, all those files have permissions assigned that allow her to edit them and no one else. It can be very tricky to alter these permissions and I do not recommend it.
However, there is a much simpler way. You can copy or move the projects and events to an external drive. From there, you can edit them directly, or you can copy or move them to your user account.
The reason this works is that external drives do not have permissions set like user accounts do.

I made an IMovie project and I can't now make a DVD of it. A window says there are problems and that they are shown in the User Parameter List. I am at a loss. Don't know what to do. HELP

• in what format ? .jpg, .bmp, .tif, else ?

• from where/what format ? iTunes, .avi, .mp3, .aiff, else ?

I fixed the problem.. but it was very, very strange. I had a very long section for credits and set the line spacing to 1.0.. for some reason this caused it. I removed it, and it worked fine. I put it back, and I couldn't preview or play the video.
I don't know why that could cause that big of a problem, but it did..

After phone support from apple I ended up creating a new project and adding all 117 clips back in individually till I found out what clips flagged and would not allow me to export. I had 3 I deleted and replaced and everything works now 1hr after tedious work....
Where do Your material come from
• Camera
• External hard disk
• USB-memory
And all are connected so that iMovie can find it ?
