Capitalize First Word In Mail

Hey everybody,
The guys at apple are great with innovation, functionality and flexibility. So, here is my question. Why does Mail not, at least, give the option to capitalize the first word of new sentences and/or the word “I”? Is it some copyright thing?
I believe the guys at apple know how to do this, but there must be some reason why they have not implemented it. This seems like some secret around the Internet, or something of the sort. I have been searching for the answer for a while now.
Even on these message boards, when people ask about it, the question is either not answered or the answer is simply, it can’t be done. No explanation or anything. (search the board for “capitalize” and one will see.)
If anyone has the answer, please let me know.
Thanks.

Not to continue beating a dead horse, but...
This isn't a case of innovation or being behind, or even of programming. Clearly a decision was made not to implement this.
Therefore, you can do two things to address this, apart from switching platforms or apps:
1. You can send feedback via the link Allan posted;
2. You can add something on to your set-up to address the "problem." I already suggested Word Services, but I'll also mention two other applications that aren't free.
Textexpander. This app is no longer free, unfortunately, but I use a previous, free version of it. I use it to create abbreviations for text I regularly have to type, like "Entrepreneurship". I just type xent and it automatically expands to the correct text. Since it was sold and now costs $29.95, I think it's overpriced, but still very useful.
Another one is Typeit4Me, which has been around for a long time and is $27. It does the same thing, but differently.
For both of these, I think, you could add an entry to change i to I whenever it is typed alone followed by a space. That means you could type iMac with no problem but i by itself would never happen.

  • Mail - Auto capitalize first word in each sentence

When composing a message in mail is there a way to turn on auto capitalization for the word beginning each sentence?

As far as I can tell you cant auto capitalize the first word of each sentence. I did however find out how to turn "i" into "I in case that is bugging you as well
    Go into System Preferences
    Click on Language and Text
Choose the "Text" box on the menu bar
It will bring you to the text substitution thingamajig where you can replace "i" with an "I". Once done it will work on Mail as well as most applications system wide.
    Hope that helps a little

  • How to auto-capitalize first word of a sentence in Apple Mail (Mountain Lion)?

I've looked around and found a few posts which say this is not possible. I hope that becuase this is not too strenuous a piece of auto-correct functionality - and even works in iOS that it surely must be possible to get it to work on Mountain Lion Mail....
I appreciate people will suggest learning to type. Thanks in advance for that. If anyone has genuine advice of how to solve this particularly irritating quirk, I would love to know.
It's particularly annoying as I'm in the process of converting a long time Outlook for Mac user to Apple Mail - and this is one feature they have pointed out immediately. (As well as a 'Move To' search box that Apple doesn't have)

I am also having this problem. Does anyone have an answer?
I jus upgraded from Pages 4.3 and it's in Preferences. Not so in Pages 5.0.

The system doesn’t recognize or capitalize the word (I) or the first word of every sentence. Another really annoying thing about the integrated mail on your Mac computers is the fact that the system learns the word as you type it more and more instead of highlighting it as incorrectly is this is a word that’s being misspelled. Can Apple fix this bug to make it user friendly as if you were using Office or a Word Document?

    You hit the target CT.
It’s only fair that if Apple is going to integrate Mail into Mac PCs, it would be nice if the system does it for you like Office or perhaps Outlook. I just don’t to use Outlook although I have it installed and ready to use, but instead use Mail which comes with Mac OS already.
I hope to make some sense here.

  • Is there a way to capitalize just the first word on a sentence on Pages v5.2?

I'm sort of new to iwork, but i've been working with word for a long time and i know it very well.
In word there is a tool in which you select a paragraph and you can capitalize the first word of each sentence.
Is there a way i can do the same with pages v5.2? Pages would only let me capitalize each word of the selected paragraph.
    Thanks

The previous major version of Pages (Pages '09 version 4.3) could automatically capitalize the first word of each sentence as you typed. That capability and a number of others was lost with the release of Pages v 5. You may still have the older version available in your Applications folder. You may also want to switch to Word or Open Office (free), both of which will likely be more familiar if you have worked with Word before.

You are writing that in the perspective of having read about it here already. Repeated often enough that you encountered it somewhere in the posts.
Users are flooding in here and don't know any of this. Of course we have to repeat everything endlessly.
Because I like to give precise, understandable and workable answers to repeated questions, and Apple doesn't allow sticky posts here, I created a separate forum which users can consult to look up real answers, and contribute for themselves if they have something valuable to add:

There is a section purely devoted to Pages 5. Add whatever answers you feel will lighten the problems of Apple's 'upgrades'.

    * Where have they acknowledged anything?
** They have barely anything listed, compared to the massive list of deleted features, and nothing but an extraordinarily long time frame considering they created the problems here and now. Apple has not said they will do anything at all about fixing the real issues, the biggest of which is that the new iWork apps break virtually all the work of existing users.

  • How do I get iPad Pages app to capitalize the first word of sentences?, how do I get iPad Pages app to capitalize the first word of sentences?

Maybe this is not a Pages feature on the iPad. Does anyone know if Pages will auto-cap "i" or the first word in a sentence?

That's strange.  What keyboard language are you using in iPad, maybe that effects it? Settings >> Keyboard >> International Keyboard
Other than that try a reboot - Press and Hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple symbol appears, ignore the red slider.  That usually resets the settings to default.
iPad 2, Click 'Like' if I helped ;-)

  • When I type the first word's letters are always mixed up

using an Apple  extended USB keyboard that came with my mac pro (2x 3ghz Dual Core Xeon processor, 18gb 667MHz RAM)
It's like the Mac cant react fast enough to catch the first one or two letters and it just inserts them into the middle of the first word.
like "Hello" would be "ellHo" and "OK" is "KO"
the rest of the sentence is fine. or the rest of the paragraph, it seems to inly happen when I first select a text field or when I have been idle for mor ethan 30 seconds.  this happens in all apps. Mail, Firefox, Textedit etc.
i have not yet unplugged the rest of my USB peripherals but that is my next step.
Ihave a ADF scanner, multifuncion printer, logitech wireless mouse, usb plantronics headset, iMo 7" USB monitor. running os 10.7.2
just upgraded and everything was fine in 10.6.x.
    anyone else experience this?
    thanks

I have similar problems with an Apple Wireless Keyboard (Bluetooth) and a MacBook Pro since installing Lion  I am running 10.7.2 also.   See https://discussions.apple.com/message/16701228#16701228 for more detail.  I think it's a bug in Lion.

  • Why does excel, word and mail open when I turn on my Mac?

When I start my Mac Pro, excel, word and mail open.  Can this be stopped?

First of all, open the Apple menu (at the top left of the screen) > About this Mac, and tell me what OS X version you have.
If it's 10.7 or 10.8, check that all of those applications are closed when you turn off the computer. OS X Lion and Mountain Lion reopen the apps that were opened in the next startup. To disable this, just go to the Apple menu > Shut Down, untick "Reopen windows when logging back in", and turn off your computer, so they shouldn't open again

  • Pages won't capitalize first letter of sentence

I don't know if this is just me or if anyone else has had this problem but I find it kind of hard to believe I isn't a feature. My problem is that Pages doesn't seem to want to capitalize the first letter of a sentence. I can easily change it between "allCaps", "smallCaps" and none but can't make it automatically capitalize after a fullstop. Sorry if this is a stupid question, I've only recently gotten my iMac (love it) but constantly holding down shift is getting a little tiresome.
    Thanks.

The free WordService from Devon Technologies has a service to capitalize the first word in a sentence.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this test is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The "Guest User" login created by "Find My Mac" is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
