Capitals to lower case

Question

I f I type a sentence with uppercase clicked on and then decide I do not want it in upper case but in lower case, so I go <Format> <Capitalization> <no Caps> nothing happens. I can't seem to be able to change to lower case except by re-typing the whole thing. Why can I not this like in MSWord.

This is yet another example of a feature that AppleWorks had that Pages doesn't. In AppleWorks, one simply selected a phrase, chose menu item Text>Style>lowercase to turn

to
sample phrase in uppercase.
To make clear the earlier explanation by posters, Pages' Capitalization changes attributes revocably laid onto text, not the text itself, as underlines and font sizes are attributed to text. Thus,
sample phrase in lowercase
with Format>Font>Capitalization>Title looks like
Sample Phrase In Lowercase
but actually is
sample phrase in lowercase
when copied and pasted in another editor, yet with the Title attribute so Pages makes it look like it's capitalized.
AppleWorks actually changes the underlying text, as does the service mentioned.
Who knows why Pages dropped the feature? My guess is that working under a deadline, programmers released something in time for a keynote speech way back when Pages was introduced, rather than releasing something when it was ready, and the feature-set stuck as the baseline for future Pages releases.
