CAPS KEY STUCK

CAPS KEY IS STUCK ON ALL CAPS ON DROID PRO.  HOW DO I UNSTICK IT?

    1948DROID,
Oh no! We don't want your contacts to think you're yelling all the time, let's get this fixed. Is it physically stuck or even though you've disabled it, the device is still using capital letters? What's the device purchase date? Is there any physical or water damage?

  • Caps key stuck on macbook pro

Hey there.. using a Macbook Pro 2.4 ghz 4 gb running latest OS 10.8.5
I went to use my computer tonight and found that the caps lock is stuck.
    - I didn't spill anything on it
    - I pulled up the shift keys.. there is no grease or food or anything in there my keyboard is immaculate ( I'm a Virgo )
    - I've done a total clean install of the OS and there is still the exact same problem
    - I've gone into the keyboard settings in the system folder and tried turning the shift key off.. no solution..
    - I've contacted my Haitain neighbor ( she is a voodoo priestess ) she put a spell on it to fix it... no luck
It will only start in safe boot mode....
I cannot reset the permiter ram... even using an external keyboard
I cannot run the ADT ( apple diagnostics test ) by restarting it and holding down the D key.
There is one other problem... that is it periodically runs slowly as well.. like its in space ( when you go to click on an folder on the dock.. the folder opens super slow )
    I don't have apple care.. I know I know... dumb move !
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    John

It's possible that it's burned out.
I'd try a SMC reset following these instructions:

  • My Macbook air (only 2 months old) has a black screen and I cannot see to get signed on, the keyboard seems to be on as I can see via having put on the Caps key which lights up and also the power cable when connected is at green how do I fix this?

I have been faced with a Black screen this morning when I have gone to sign in/open my Macbook air this morning.  I can see that the keyboard seems to be on as the caps key when pressed is lighting up as is my charger cable link, however have noticed that the apple logo is not lit up.  Any thoughts?

Try resetting SMC and NVRAP and then reboot.

    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405
Try booting the Recovery Partition.  Power off, boot and then hold down the Command and R keys.  Is the screen still black?  If so it is not a software problem so take it in for diagnosis and repairs.  Make a Genius Bar reservation http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/ or find an Apple Authorized Service Provider https://locate.apple.com/country .
If you are running Mavericks try upgrading to 10.9.2.  It has a fix for black screen problems.

  • My Macbook Pro has a black screen when running in Bootcamp Windows 7. Since I updated the mac side my windows side now starts up with completely black screen - no prompt, nothing, Cap keys still light up as does mouse and DVD drive seems to run.

My Macbook Pro has a black screen when running in Bootcamp Windows 7. Since I updated the mac side my windows side now starts up with completely black screen - no prompt, nothing, Cap keys still light up as does mouse and DVD drive seems to run.
Will not show up in safe mode, will not show when started from Windows 7 DVD.
I suspect the Mac update wiped out my PC video drivers but can not think of a way to re-install?
Can see the PC volume from Mac side with files.
I've looked at all the online solutions so far and have tried most of them without success. Please help!

    EDIT: RESOLVED
For anyone else who finds their way here like I did, this link did it for me: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/527599/windows-8-issues-solved-please-r ead-if-you-39-re-having-black-screen-and-or-flickering-/
Specifically, the posts by Dunsany and valkyr did the trick.  I booted in safe mode, uninstalled and deleted the Nvidia driver, disabled automatic driver installation, and restarted normally.  I then manually downloaded and installed the previous Nvidia driver for my graphics card (which at the time of this writing was 335.23, rather than the latest which was 337.88), and everything is now bueno!
Two hiccoughs along the way: First, when I tried to uninstall the Nvidia driver the first time, when I restarted I got the login screen (which was a good sign), but it quickly went black again.  I powered down, restarted in safe mode again, and repeated the uninstallation process, and it worked the second time.  Second, when I started the manual install of the 335.23 driver, the computer played a sound similar to the one for disconnecting a USB device, and the screen went black.  I'd seen a lot about trying to increase the brightness (though it hadn't worked up to this point; but if you haven't tried it yet, might as well); I tried it, and it worked! So far I'm back up and running. [/fingers crossed]
    Hope this helps someone else!

  • Apple Mac mini g4 with Apple Pro Keyboard shift key stuck on

    Hey guys,
My mac mini g4 with Apple Pro keyboard has it's shift key stuck on and will not disable, this happened after I cleaned the keys with a "magic eraser" and is probably water damage, but when it is plugged into a PC the shift key is off and can be toggled as should be. Any help will be appericiated and if I can fix this it will save the faithful keyboard. Thanks in advance!

Thank you chorleyman! I just need a cheap platform for Logic to run, I'm not an advanced user, just to play for my soul. I'm usually using Windows based platforms, that's why I was confused about this particular model.
So if it looks good I think I will order this hardware next week.
If anyone have any more thoughts about the topic, please feel free to comment here! Thank you!

    Solved!

Are you in possession of the IBM Hardware Maintenance Diskette?
This is from the Hardware Maintenance manual.
Restoring the serial number of the system unit
When the computer was manufactured, the EEPROM on the system board was
loaded with the serial numbers of the system and all major components. These
numbers need to remain the same throughout the life of the computer.
If you replace the system board, you must restore the serial number of the system
    unit to its original value.
Before replacing the system board, save the original serial number by doing the
    following:
    1. Install the LENOVO ThinkPad Hardware Maintenance Diskette Version 1.76 or
    later, and restart the computer.
    2. From the main menu, select 1. Set System Identification.
    3. Select 2. Read S/N data from EEPROM.
The serial number of each device in your computer is displayed; the serial number
of the system unit is listed as follows:
    v 20: Serial number
    Write down that number.
Note: The serial number of the system unit is also written on the label attached to
    the bottom of the computer.
After you have replaced the system board, restore the serial number by doing the
    following:
    1. Install the LENOVO ThinkPad Hardware Maintenance Diskette Version 1.76 or
    later and restart the computer.
    2. From the main menu, select 1. Set System Identification.
    3. Select 1. Add S/N data from EEPROM.
Follow the instructions on the screen.
If the MTM and Product ID numbers differ from each other on the rear label, use
what is shown for the Product ID field. See example below:
    MTM on rear label:
    TTTT-CTO S/N SSSSSSS
    Product ID on rear label:
TTTT-MMM (Use this number when setting Serial Number)
In the example, the Serial Number to be input is ’1STTTTMMMSSSSSSS’.
    Retaining the UUID
The Universally Unique Identifier (UUID) is a 128-bit number uniquely assigned to
your computer at production and stored in the EEPROM of your system board.
The algorithm that generates the number is designed to provide unique IDs until
the year A.D. 3400. No two computers in the world have the same number.
When you replace the system board, you must set the UUID on the new system
    board as follows:
    1. Install the LENOVO ThinkPad Hardware Maintenance Diskette Version 1.76 or
    later, and restart the computer.
    2. From the main menu, select 4. Assign UUID.
A new UUID is created and written. If a valid UUID already exists, it is not
    overwritten.
Reading or writing the ECA information
Information on Engineering Change Announcements (ECA) are stored in the
EEPROM of the system board. The electronic storage of this information simplifies
the procedure to check if the ECA has been previously applied to a machine. The
machine does not need to be disassembled to check for the ECA application.
To check what ECAs have been previously applied to the machine, use the ECA
Information Read/Write function on the LENOVO ThinkPad Hardware
Maintenance Diskette Version 1.76 or later.
    1. Insert the LENOVO ThinkPad Hardware Maintenance Diskette Version 1.76 or
    later, and restart the computer.
    2. From the main menu, select 6. Set ECA Information.
    3. To read ECA information, select 2. Read ECA/rework number from EEPROM
    and follow the instruction.
    4. To read box build date, select 5. Read box build date from EEPROM, and
follow the instruction on the screen.
After an ECA has been applied to the machine, the EEPROM must be updated to
reflect the ECA’s application. Use the LENOVO ThinkPad Hardware Maintenance
Diskette Version 1.76 or later to update the EEPROM.
Note: Only the ECA number is stored in the EEPROM. The machine type of the
ECA is assumed be the same as the machine type of the machine that had the ECA
    applied to it.
    1. Insert the LENOVO ThinkPad Hardware Maintenance Diskette Version 1.76 or
    later, and restart the computer.
    2. From the main menu, select 6. Set ECA Information.
    3. To write ECA information, select 1. Write ECA/rework number from EEPROM,
    and follow the instruction.
    4. To write box build date, select 4. Write box build date from EEPROM, and
follow the instruction on the screen.
If the system board is being replaced, try to read the ECA information from the old
system board and transfer the information to the new system. If the system board
is inoperable, this will not be possible.

  • Caps Key not working in main user account

Caps key does work in a guest account. Just bought this 13" Macbook Pro and transferred my user account from my old Powerbook. Over the air since I didn't have a firewire 800 to 400 cable. Everything seems to work fine but that.
Should I do a backup and then full restore? I can use SuperDuper or Time Machine.
    Any ideas?

What OS do you have on the Power Book? If you have an older OS on the PowerBook, you won't be able to restore that clone to your new computer, as you can't have an OS older than the hardware.
Here is what I would do. Clone the drive to an external. Then run migration assistant and transfer your files. Then see if the problems persist. If everything is good, then no worries. If problems persist, I would bite the bullet, do a clean install, and unfortunately, drag and drop. You really only need to drag the main folders of your Home folder (Documents, Movies, Pictures, Music). That's where usually all the user-created content is. If you have it saved in other locations, you'll have to move that. I save all my stuff in these folders, so a drag+drop is pretty simple when I need to do it.
As for your app settings and app support in your Library folder, on a computer that old, I'd reinstall all those apps, and go through my app preferences from scratch. Depending on how many apps you have, it's not a daunting task.
I actually enjoy clean installs, as they give me an opportunity to get rid of junk I don't need, and apps I don't use. Plus they make your computer run faster.

  • ThinkPad T540p Control key stuck

The control key of my ThinkPad T540p often got stuck. It is not physically stuck, but the computer often thinks it is pressed down. This happens from time to time, which is very annoying. When it happens, if I press Ctrl again, then everything is back to OK again.
I noticed that this problem seems to be pretty common in Lenovo computers. If you google search "Lenovo Control key stuck", you can find lots of similar reports!
Does anyone have any idea on how to solve it? Thanks!

    Hi Nauhiuc,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community!
Check uninstalling the keyboard adapter from “Device Manager” under Keyboards.

Alt key stucks in my lenovo s10-3t and i have to press it 2 or 3 times to release it .... i encourted this problem in tablet mode so i think that this is not a physical keyboard problem ...

  • My cap key is locked on.

The light goes on and off when I press the key but  nothing happens. I've tryed setting the key to off and nothing. I can't enter any passwords because my cap key is  locked.

Sounds like a hardware problem.  If you have AppleCare, give them a call.  If not, take your MBP to your local Apple Store or AASP.
If you are in the habit of eating or drinking while using your computer, there may be crumbs/dirt trapped under the caps key.  Check out the following for how to clean:

  • Caps lock stuck.

MBPro was logged out and screen was closed. Hours later attempted to re-log into and kept getting wrong password error. Logged under guest opened notes, safari & contacts and showed I was typing in all caps even w/o caps lock lite up. Cannot get it to normal.

If you are in the habit of eating and drinking while using the computer, dirt & crumbs could have gotten underneath the caps key.  If you have a can of compressed air or a vacuum hose, run it over the key.  You can remove the key if you have to - How to remove and clean your Macbook Pro Keyboard

Non accidental hardware issue, take the computer to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.
Liquid damage is not covered under Apple's standard 1 year warranty or Apple Care.
NOTE:  If you are out of warranty and purchased the computer with a credit card, discuss the warranty issue with the credit card company which you purchased the computer with.   They are the only ones who can at this point cover the computer after it goes out of warranty with the manufacturer (Apple).

  • New Yoga 15 TAB key stuck

When my yoga 15 starts up it will have the tab key stuck and it will cycle through all the options on the login screen. It happends randomly on websites when I'm trying to login. I thought the sticky keys were enabled, but they are not. The only way to get the thing to stop is to randomly hit keys and it will just stop. I've done all the updates, but this ruins any experience I've had with thinkpads. My yoga 12 before this had a ghosting problem.
I just want to get this out there because someone else my have this problem too.

Thanks for posting and welcome to the community,
You might want to consider updating the drivers for your touchpad. you can download the drivers by either going to the support site directly http://support.lenovo.com or by clicking on the link below.

  • The wireless keyboards battery cap has stuck

I have an iMAC with a wireless keyboard.
The wireless keyboards battery cap has stuck. I have tried opening it with screwdrivers, coins and even spoon handles but nothing can open this.
This was purchased under 1 year ago. I called the company that supplied the product (Jigsaw24.com) and they said they will not fix the issue or replace the item without me incurring charges. Surely this item is still covered under the standard Apple Care Warranty or even covered under their company warranty? The cap is still running flush with the end of the keyboard and has not been forced. If i'm not able to access the battery compartment and change the batteries this item is useless.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Odd caps key malfunction

All of a sudden the left hand 'caps' key on my MacBook refuses to convert the top qwerty line of my keyboard in to caps, apart from the last letter P! It is fine on the others two lines. The right hand one works fine as does the caps lock. So using the left key, which is the most convenient, I get:
    qwertyuioP
Do you think this is a problem with my laptop or have I pressed a wrong key somewhere?

Do check your preferences. Can you press shift and then the keys?
