Caps lock key has jab prevention even when set to control

I use the feature in the System Preferences to change the modifier key for caps lock to be control -- it's something I've done for years.
On my new apple keyboard the button fails to engage if I type too quickly (which is the point of mapping it to control in the first place).
How can I turn this feature off (as it is clearly broken since it still has caps lock protection when not in caps lock mode)? If it can't be turned off, then I most certainly need to return this keyboard.
Can we get an official Apple line on this? Has anyone gotten the spiel from customer service?

My problem with the Bluetooth Mighty mouse is that sometimes when click on an object, nothing happens. I can only move the cursor on the screen but clicking doesn't work. So I have to turn off the mouse for 20 sec and after I switched it back and it works. What I also notest is when I move an object on the screen with the mouse it goed not as smooth as with my wired one.

  • *caps lock* key has reversed function.....

When the green light is ON, it signals LOWER case characters.
When the green light is OFF, it displays UPPER case characters.
    This just happened overnight.
I have tried to cycle the button several times, but the behavior persists.
I have also rebooted the PB several times to no resolution.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks for your time!

    Try resetting SMC and PRAM.
You probably meant try resetting the PMU, for the PowerPC-based system, instead of the Intel SMC reset.
    1. If the computer is on, turn it off.
    2. Disconnect the AC Adapter and remove the computer's battery.
    3. Press and hold down the power button for 5 seconds and then release the button.
    4. Reconnect the battery and AC Adapter.
    5. Press the Power button to restart the computer.

  • Trackpad and caps lock key

The trackpad on my macbook has stopped working, as has the click button. i am having to use a usb mouse. Also the Caps lock key has reversed itself, when the light is on, Caps lock is off. The light is on as I am typing this. THE LIGHT IS OFF NOW. Any help on how I can get either fixed?

    First, try resetting the SMC:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Second, remove the battery and then start up just from AC power. Does your trackpad work without the battery installed? If so, you may be one of the many whose battery seems to have warped out of shape.
If even without the battery installed your trackpad doesn't work, google up +macbook trackpad origami+, which will suggest a trick to deal with the opposite problem, that there's too little space between the trackpad and the battery.

  • Cap Lock Key Bad

Since day one of me using this MB Pro (which was brand new not used, no refrub) the cap locks key has been sketchy at best. Now most of the time I use an external keyboard and monitor but when I use the laptop it gets annoying quick. You really need to hammer down on the cap locks key to work and I know thats not right. Any ideas?

Well, no solution here, but I heve exactly the same problem with my second keyboard. The first one was replaced on warranty and the replacement is same-same.
The only sure way to turn the Caps Lock on is to hold it down for a fraction of a second. A tap never does it - ever.
I wonder if it is a "design feature" as it is the one and only key giving me grief.
I guess taking yours for a keyboard replacement is the only solution, you may be lucky and get a working one.

  • Macbook Pro won't start, caps lock key light solid

After I turned off my MBP, I came back a few hours later and now it wont start. The screen stays black but, when I hit the power button the caps lock keys has a solid green light. It stays for a few seconds-1minute. What do i do?

    Execute SMC and PRAM resets:

If no success, make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar for a free evaluation.

If Malcolm's suggestion doesn't do it take it into an Apple store or AASP. BTW, the MacBook hardware forums are here:

  • HP G72-B6OUS Notebook - the "caps lock" key

the "caps lock" key has come off the keyboard.  how can i have it put back on the keyboard or where can i take it
to have the notebook keyboard fixed???

    Hey arkay71,
If the key isn't completely broken, it should snap back in. Depending on the model of your notebook, it may or may not have a small metal bar that acts as a guide. Make sure to align that with the 2 hooks on both sides of the key slot, then snap it into place. If the key doesn't have a metal bar, then it should just snap it - make sure everything is lined up before you do.
If the key is broken, and the tabs are missing or no longer snap into place, then you'll have to contact HP support for a replacement keyboard: 800-474-6836

  • Blinking caps lock key

Anybody know why my caps lock key has started blinking. It isn't blinking fast and I thought I was seeing things at first but it is flashing now and then.

If you were talking about an Atari ST I would say 100% keyboard fault, the keyboard on the ST is 'intelligent' and this is the way it tells you it gone faulty - maybe similar thing going on with yours ?

I can't get a capital c when I press the shift key, but I can get one with the with the caps lock key.  Help

    Hi
    How its going?
I understand that you are not able to get the capital letter c.

  • When i press the i key with the shift key nothing happens. I can get a capital i only by pressing the cap lock key whats wrong.

When i press the i key with the shift key nothing happens. the only way I can get a capital i is by using the caps lock key what is going on. Also from time to time my mouse acts like someone is sitting on it. this stops when i press the command key. i am using the lateist wireless mouse and keypad.

does it only happen with the i key?
if it doesnt then try presing shift first then i (or any key) second instead of at the same time.
if it only happens with the i key then what i would do is take the keyboard and mouse to an apple store and ask them if they will hook it up on their computer to see if it is the keyboard or computer.

  • Caps Lock Key not displayed when active on Key board for HP P7 1410

How can I tell if my Caps Lock Key is active??

    Hello Again,
If you click on the link below it shows you how to sync, and the instructions are pretty standard with other wireless devices we have. The little receiver that you have plugged into the computer might not have a button on it, but there should be a sync button on the bottom side of the keyboard.
Also after doing some research I was able to find out that less and less of our wireless keyboards are coming with the standard caps lock light. Also if the wording itself doesn't come up on the screen when you press the button and the keyboard is functioning as such then the keyboard doesn't provide that function.
    How To Sync
Please respond at your earliest convenience.
    Thanks

  • Problem that starts with *apparent* sticking caps lock key

I have a mid-2009 MacBook Pro (two weeks outside of AppleCare, of course!).  Last night, it appeared the caps lock key was sticking. It would type in all caps even when I hit the button and the green indicator light went off. Moments later, I noticed that the option that shows you all the windows on the same screen was suddenly going very, very slow. I tried to restart but it started in safe mode - twice. It finally started correctly on the third or fourth reboot. I hoped it was a fluke.
Unfortunately it's happening again and rebooting doesn't seem to fix it - I can't put in my password to login because it thinks I'm typing in all caps.
    Any ideas, please?  Thanks.

This may enter the Apple Hall of Fame for stupid posts.  I spent a couple hours last night restarting the computer, trying restore etc....and really doing anything I could from clinton's link in order to identify the problem.  I'd even called our local store to let them know I would be there first thing in the morning (I'm boarding a plane in a few minutes and really needed my laptop for this trip).
So after doing all of those things + removing the caps lock key to see if it was somehow manually stuck, I go the store this morning.  Virtual panic.  I needed a presentation off the laptop for a workshop tomorrow and I hadn't backed up since I created it...
I enter the store, I begin to explain the situation in detail, I open up the laptop....
And the guy at the store says "Did you notice your shift key is stuck down?".  Why No, I hadn't noticed that!  With a tiny wiggle and a tap, that key popped back into place and the computer worked fine.  The Safe Mode was happening because the shift key was down.

  • Elitebook9470 not turning on,scroll and cap lock keys light up

I have an elitebook9470 which is about 2 years old. When I turn my laptop on the keys light up but the monitor remains blank. Then the scroll and caps lock keys light up however nothing appears on the monitor. I have charged my laptop and I am unsure if it is related to low power. I have tried attaching the laptop to an external monitor but no signal appears. Any help regarding this will be appreaciated. thanks for your help.

    Hi @Nush 2015 ,
To get your issue more exposure I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums since this is a commercial product. You can do this at Commercial Forums.
Even though this is a Commercial product, try performing a hard reset.
When performing a hard reset please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices.
Here is a link on computer does not start.
You could reset the BIOS with this document selecting the reloading the BIOS default settings.
    Hope this helps you out.
    Thanks.

  • Dodgy caps lock key?

Its not that bad, but sometimes it doesn't turn on/off when I press it. Back to the shop? I hope they don't want to take my macbook away for repair thus leaving me without a computer...

I bought a new MacBook about 3 weeks ago. I had the same caps lock issue. I took it to the store, not really expecting to swap it for a new machine. But the people at the Genius Bar thought it should be replaced.
But the new one had the same problem -- as well as some other issues (including the keyboard freeze issue under Leopard that is the subject of another thread). This time, the Genius Bar person told me that the caps lock key on the MacBook has been redesigned, to make it require a firmer press to avoid accidental contact -- rather like the "eject" key. In other words, what I was encountering was a "feature," not a "flaw."
I'm not sure I totally accept that explanation -- the key does not seem totally consistent in how it responds to touch. But a check of other machines in the store did suggest that they all behaved, in varying degrees, in that way.
Anyway, they replaced the machine again -- not so much because of the caps lock issue, but more because of the other problems. Same caps lock behavior on the third machine. So I'm inclined to think that, intentionally or not, this type of caps lock behavior is something that all new MacBook buyers are likely to have to live with -- at least for now.
