Caps Lock light on MacBook Pro not working.

The light on my MacBook Pro's Caps Lock does not turn on when I use it. However the Caps Lock feature works fine and I don't remember changing any features that would make this occur. I checked the Modifier Keys under system preferences and all defaults are set. This is a 2010 MacBook Pro with OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.7.

It's possible that it's burned out.
I'd try a SMC reset following these instructions:

  • Why does the internet on my new macbook pro not work when my old macbook's does?

Why does the internet on my new macbook pro not work when my old macbook's does? I'll have to turn the wifi off and back on multiple times to get the internet to continue to work on my Macbook Pro (running mountain lion but did it on lion also) when it runs fine on my old white Macbook (running lion). Is there something I can do to fix it or do I just have to deal with it?

Here is your fix .. I have uploaded my properly calibrated profile get it here :
    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=YAJL6A9X
And it should go to your user folder/Library/ColorSync/Profiles
if you have one already you can rename either one ..
and then go to system preferences - displays - color to select the profile .
you will get rid of the blue tint while keeping correct color and gamma
This is for the newer 2010 MBP's altho if same display was used might also give good results in the previous models as well . .

  • Macbook pro not working without battery

my macbook pro not working if i remove the battery
& if the battery is empty my macbook pro not working before charging

    Try an SMC reset:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1411
You should not run on AC with the battery removed. The MBP should work that way, but the OS throttles back the CPU so running like that is not recommended.

  • Caps Lock lights up but doesn't work in Mac OS (but does in Windows)

My Caps Lock button lights up but caps do not work in any Leopard programs. If I hold down the Shift key then caps will work.
However, I have Parallels and caps lock DOES work when running Windows.
I checked the Modifier Keys settings in keyboard preferences and they are set to the default.
I am new to Apple and have a Mac Book Pro that I bought in Spring 2008.
I searched the discussions but didn't see my situation...

Hi Steve, Welcome to apple discussions.
Hmm, that is a strange problem. Well, you've already done what I would suggest which is to go to the keyboard settings and click the "Restore defaults" button in the modifier keys window and try again. If that doesn't work then you can restart the computer and check. If that doesn't work you can try to reset the pram. Hold the optioncommand+PR buttons after you hear the startup chime, it should chime again, I let it chime a third time just for good measure and see if things look better.
If that fails then you can try making another account and seeing if the caps lock works in the new account. There might be some strange error on your account that would be corrected for in a new account. After that it gets more labor intensive. Do a system re-install, do an erase and install.
You might consider a trip to the apple genius bar there in Honolulu if can. The should be able to run through all that for you. You're still under warrantee so take advantage and get some help.
Oh, and just a disclaimer that I learned from Adam on the maccast podcast. Make a full, complete backup including a time machine and bootable (like superduper or carbon copy cloner) disk before you do any of the above or take the unit it for service.
    Hope this helps.

  • Macbook Pro not working with replacement logic board

Hello everyone! About two months ago, someone spilled tea over my macbook pro. Upon taking it to the Apple store the representative told me that it would cost me over $1,000 to repair it and that I would be better off getting a new one (I know most of you have heard that many times). I inspected the Macbook and I realized that when I tried turning it on the keyboard would not light up and, but the sleep light was on. Furthermore, I heard the hard drive and the fans spinning. The tea only spilled on the right side of the Macbook so I figured that would help me narrow down the issue. The apple representative told me that I needed to replace the logic board so I went and bought a replacement one that was the same model. Before I screwed all the pieces back in, I wanted to try it out and see if it would turn on. Unfortunately I still have the same problem. It seems that the logic board is not the problem, but I am not sure what it might be. I'm pretty sure the CD/DVD drive is damaged, but I don't see why that would prevent the Macbook from turning on. I did a little research and I notice that most people test the graphics card to see if it is working, but I don't know how to do that. I have an older Macbook Pro, the motherboard is model 820-1993-A and I believe the model of the Macbook is A1150. Please help, this macbook was a gift and I don't want to throw it out!

Well I would like to find out what the piece is that is causing me the problem so that I could replace it! I already replaced the most expensive piece and the hard drive seems to be working fine so it doesn't leave many things. I just would like to know how I would be able to check to see if the video card is damaged.

  • Left USB on MacBook Pro not working.

I've got a brand new MacBook pro unibody (not the one from WWDC though, I have the one with the removable battery (late 2008 I guess) and the left USB port which is closest to the firewire port doesn't work. The computer is only 3 weeks old and I can't remember if it ever worked, it may have worked with a USB mouse the first time I turned it on but I'm not sure. Since then I've tried it with my iPhone, iPod, external hard drive, 3 different digital cameras and the wired mouse again. It's not even a recognition issue because my iPhone/iPod doesn't even charge when connected! So I guess it's severely underpowered. The only sign of power I've gotten from it is when I plug in the mouse and the mouse's red light flashes twice then disappears.
I've tried resetting the SMC per Apple's directions here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1411
I tried both methods and still nothing. I've also run the hardware test but it found nothing (although I didn't run the long version).
Any suggestions would be most welcome! I'm thinking of taking back to the store tomorrow though (not an Apple Store, we don't have one here )

It sounds defective and you need to take it back to an Authorized Apple dealer or repair centre for them to fix it under Warranty.

  • Built-in camera macbook pro not working

    Hi guys,
lately the built-in camera on my macbook pro hasn't been working properly: at first it works normally then after a while it stops (the green light stays on) and when I open photo booth or other programmes it says "camera not connected", how can I fix this?
    Thanks

One of these will fix your problem:
    (1) If restarting your Mac doesn't fix the problem,
    (2) use Apple's http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090.
(BTW - Apple has changed the built-in camera's name on newer Macs from "iSight" to "FaceTime" and then to "FaceTime HD."  Regardless of the name of your built-in camera, the same info and troubleshooting applies.)
Be sure to test more than one Apple app in more than one user account.  Do NOT use the "Guest" account for this test.  If you do not have more than one user account for the testing, create a new one now.  If you need help, here's how to do it in your Mac OS:  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11468  (A "Standard" account is all you need for testing.)
    (3) If your cam still does not work properly, use Disk Utility to repair permissions.  Then download and apply the latest Combo Update for your OS.  Currently, the latest ML Combo is here:  http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1571
Repair permissions again immediately following the system restart that completes the update.
    (4) The only other action I know that you can do on your own is to use OS X Recovery to completely reinstall your Mac OS.
    (5) If none of the above suggestions resolve your trouble, contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider to have your Mac professionally serviced.

  • How do I fix a sticky caps lock button on macbook pro?

I've just purchased a mbp with retina display and love it but the keys are a little sticky and making it difficult to ype well. Specifically the caps lock button. DIs this a common problem and how do I fit it?

What do you mean by sticky. The Caps Lock key on all new Macbook Pros don't work correctly, IMHO. You have to Hold down the C L key for a BIT for it to turn on. There is a long thread on it someplace on this forum.
If other keys are STICKING, you press it and let up and get repeated characters, then you have a defective MBP and since you just bought it take it back and get another that functions correctly. Apple has a 14 day No questions asked return policy. Take advantage of that policy and get a Mac that work right.

  • The caps lock and p key does not work

All of a sudden my "p" key and "caps Lock" key are not working. tried pram and smc resets but does not help. Want to know if it is a hard ware or a software issue. Im using a a MAC Book Pro that i bought ony 15 days back

First assumption: its faulty wiring, judging by this being your first post, im guessing its a new mac? Id call apple or replace it at the store you got it from if you didnt buy through online or applestore.

  • Bluetooth from iPhone 3GS to MacBook Pro not working?

I am having (seemingly) bluetooth connection issues with "some" devices to my MacBook Pro.  I note:
    * Mouse pairs fine
    * iPhone 3GS does not remain connected (focus of this forum question)
Error - after pairing my iPhone 3GS to my MBP I get an error:
    The Bluetooth Network is Unavailable
There was an error connecting your device.  Make sure the device is turned on and in range.
    Notes:
    * MacBook Pro details:
      Model Name:          MacBook Pro
      Model Identifier:          MacBookPro6,2
      Processor Name:          Intel Core i7
      System Version:          Mac OS X 10.7.3 (11D50b)
Background: Ultimately interested in teethering my iPhone 3G data connection to my MacBook Pro, but for the moment the bluetooth connection won't even remain in place.

nothing in these articles helped unfortunately - some more clarification:
tethering via USB from iPhone 3G to MacBook Pro => WORKS
tethering via Bluetooth => does NOT work, with bluetooth connectioning not staying up
    During pairing process:
    devices "see each other"
pairing appears to work, then you see that the connection drops out directly afterwards (almost immediately)
on iPhone message = "Connection Unsuccessful - XXX's MacBook Pro is not supported"
on MacBook - it's just the connection in Bluetooth options shows up as not connected
in /var/log/system I see some bluetooth related lines:
    Apr 18 19:33:14 Gregs-MacBook-Pro bnepd[18950]: [IOBluetoothDevice instantiateChannel] BluetoothHCIAuthenticationRequested failed (0x0006), so retry
    Apr 18 19:33:14 Gregs-MacBook-Pro sandboxd[18966] ([18950]): bnepd(18950) deny mach-lookup com.apple.blued
Apr 18 19:33:14 Gregs-MacBook-Pro bnepd[18950]: [IOBluetoothDevice instantiateChannel] BluetoothHCIAuthenticationRequested failed (0x0006), so disconnect device
    Apr 18 19:33:53 Gregs-MacBook-Pro blued[22]: Removing Bluetooth configured device: 00-26-08-23-23-9d
Any other ideas?  Is it a physical problem with my MBP?  but then again my bluetooth mouse stays connected ok.  And in terms of the iPhone well it tethers fine to the iPad via bluetooth....

  • One speaker on MacBook Pro not working for certain programs?

When I either receive or place a FaceTime call on my MacBook Pro, the left speaker cuts out audio and produces high static.  The right speaker is fine.  The receiving end can also hear the static feedback, but their two speakers work fine.  I have all my iOS devices setup to receive and place FaceTime calls (iPhone 5s, iPad, and MacBook Pro 15 inch late 2011).  If I place or receive the FaceTime calls on my iPhone or iPad, there is no problem.
I've tested the speakers, youtube, iTunes audio, streaming websites, netflix, etc... and all works fine on the MacBook Pro.  Just FaceTime.  I also went into system preferences and the speaker setup is correct (audio in and out - internal speakers).
I've also restarted, reinstalled Yosemite...still FaceTime left speaker problem.
I appreciate any troubleshooting advice and/or if others have experienced this problem.
    Thanks!

The Troubleshooting FaceTime for Mac OS X:FaceTime for Mac: Troubleshooting FaceTime - Apple Support does not offer much in the way of help for the problem you are having.
Have you tried going to System Preferences, Sound, Output and playing around with the Balance to see if that makes any difference?
You might also consider going to FaceTime, Preferences and turn FaceTime OFF and then back ON.
And to have the system checked, you could take it to an Apple store genius bar and have the techs see if there is something hardware-wise interfering with FaceTime.

  • Need help one USB Port on MacBook Pro not working

Its been a weak now and im getting tired of my MacBook pro USB not reading anything.. It wont read/connect usb drives, IPods/IPhones/IPads, and Android phones. I have tried the PRAM and SMC resets and nothing has worked i even left my Macbook pro off for a whole day. ITS ONLY ONE PORT NOT WORKING, i took it to bestbuy because its closest to me but geek squad just did what i explained above and told me get a USB hub and NO! i want to fix this issue... Anyone has had this happen can you let me know if its because the USB port is no longer working or a software issue... Also i keep getting this notification telling me USB devices disabled draining to much power but i have nothing connected!!
ps- my MacBook Pro is getting very hot fast and it happens when im not even using it, i get home and it very hot could there be another hardware failure i dont leave applications open when i sleep it.

It sounds like you might have a hardware problem. Your best bet is to go to the Genius Bar. The evaluation is free, and they'll fix it if you're under Applecare. Back up your stuff first though.

  • MacBook Pro not working, and I'm in China

Hello everyone, I am posting on here because there is no way to email customer support and I am currently lacking the ability to make phone calls. Sorry, but I'm about to get a little personal here (note: I added this little note in later after I realized how ridiculous I sounded) - I am currently 48 hours without sleep; that is my excuse. My 4 year old MacBook Pro seems to have sh*t the bed, and the worst possible time. I have just spent every last penny I had to come out here to China to seek bigger and better opportunities and my side kick is this here dead laptop. I don't treat this thing like crap. She's a little banged up, got a cracked screen, but this all happened within the first year or so of getting her (freshman year of college about sums it up), so I assume this has nothing to do with any of those shenanigans. I don't download things, or do whatever else that would make her act this way. I use the Internet, and save Microsoft Word and Powerpoint (downloaded in 2011) documents. That's about all. Everything is on there in that little box that I need, to be out here. Absolutely everything. Most importantly, all of my resume, cover letter, and school information that I need to get my life started out here. I don't speak the language, I don't know anybody, I can't ship this puppy out of here (e v e r y  l a s t  p e n n y [dont worry, my hotel is paid for for the next month, and it's free all you can eat breakfast]) but I'm not getting anywhere without this laptop. And to top it off, an old email address that may have had at least a partial resume on it is locked by Yahoo, and guess what the only way to unlock it is? that's right, I have to call them.
Please tell me, what are my options? And thank you for taking the time to read my pathetic story.
Attachment that won't attach: I press the power button, and a file folder with a question mark blinks on and off for a minute and then she turns off.

    Hello again, D'Anna.
Thanks for the update in regard to your issue. At this point, it seems like your issue may be hardware related.
In your situation, you might be better served by seeking out an Apple Retail Stores or Apple Authorised Service Provider in your area.
