Caps Lock Notification

When I first got my Acer notebook, if I turned the caps lock on or off (as well as num lock), the screen would show an indicator for a second to notify me I had pressed one of the lock keys.  That suddenly stopped happening.  How do I turn that function back on?

I have a V5-571P touchscreen and spent two sessions chatting with Acer and the level 2 tech told me that it doesn't support the caps/num lock onscreen display (OSD). Interesting enough the level 1 tech (foreign soil based) spent quite a bit of time trying to figure out a resolution, but when I was transferred to what appeared to be a U.S. based level 2 tech, they blew me off in about 2 minutes saying it didn't have this function. I have already re-installed Launch Manager and that made no difference. I can't even find a GUI for it. Or is it just a program that runs at startup and has no user interface? I find it hard to believe that Acer would sell a machine that has no indication for these functions. My volume and screen brightness OSDs work just fine. I suspect that maybe this same hardware was sold with Win 7 and they had the caps/num lock OSDs working for that configuration, but when they released it with Win8 it stopped working.  I won't even get into their backup/recovery apps. I'll save that for another thread. Anyone else out there have num/caps lock OSDs working on on an Aspire V5 either on Win7 or Win8? Anyone out there with Win8 figure out a way to get it working?

  • I have 2 caps lock notifications and they respond slowly

    Hi,
    I have now got 2 caps lock notification boxes in the bottom right hand corner. This I suppose I can deal with it's the fact that most of the time when I have pressed the caps lock they show up sometimes 1 or 2 and then the keyboard is slow to respond i.e. I cannot type for a couple of seconds and as I type quite fast I am finding that half my stuff is missing!
    I had installed a new caps lock notification box recently from a fellow forum user as the original blue one had disappeared and I needed to have one because of passwords being case sensitive etc. After the 2nd one was installed the old one came back and now there is the 2 of them.
    It could be the point there is 2 boxes making it react slower. If so how do I get rid of one? or is it something else making the repsonse to the caps lock slow?
    Can anyone help me solve this? I have the HP Touchsmart Windows 7 with a wifi keyboard and mouse
    Thanks everyone!!

    I understand that after a fix to put the Cap Locks Indicator back on your system you now have 2 of them showing and are getting a lag when you switch back and forth. I would suggest that you follow the HP Support document: Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 7) and restore your computer back to a point in time when you had a single working Cap Lock Indicator. This will not affect your personal files only applications that have been installed after the date you choose or settings that have been adjusted after the date you choose.

  • How to turn the Caps Lock notification off?

    Every time I press Caps Lock, a giant grey notification appears in the middle of my screen for a few seconds. I really want to turn this off because it annoys the hell out of me. Any idea how?

    hi JoeMorris,
    Thank you posting and welcome to the community.
    After reading you r post I'd like to get a clarification of the Issue? May I know which Lenovo Model do you have in your possession? Another thing i'd like to know is which windows version are you using?
    Most newer lenovo models when hitting the caps lock on or off will display a small icon. on the bottom right of the screen and none like the ones you mention in your post which is displayed in the middle of the screen. These type of display are normally seen in the older machines.
    The display option you mentioned are normally controlled by the "On Screen Display" Driver which can be found in the control panel.You might want to uninstall the "On screen Display".
    Do let me know on how it goes and post your finding. I'll assist you further with the information provided.
    Regards

  • Turn Off Caps Lock Notification (Tried many ways but none work)

    I recently bought a Lenovo Y50-70 and I use Caps lock for gaming but the black and yellow icon notification for caps lock is very annoying. I have Windows 8.1 and I'm looking to looking to turn this option off.
    I have researched ways to end this but have tried going into regedit, Display, Ease of Access and msconfig to no avail.
    There is no Widcomm file in my registry, Display's advanced settings do not have an option and neither does Ease of Access.
    I know that I can turn off all on screen notifications and therefore solve this problem but I don't want to do that. If anyone has an answer, much will be appreciated.

  • Disable Caps Lock Indicator Yoga 14

    I just purchased a yoga 14 with windows 8.1. I want to disable the caps lock notification and almost all of the old solutions for windows 7 do not apply because there is no "On-Screen Display" tab. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Thank you for confirming.
    This one, yes: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/yoga-series/yoga-3-1470
    My apologies. I mistakenly thought that only the ThinkPad line sported a 14" Yoga.

  • Caps, Scroll and Num Lock Notification - How to disable

    Hi,
    When i hit either my caps, scroll or num lock on my keyboard have this small notification popup and have problem disabling the function.
    How will i go about to disable this?

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Hewlett-Packard\Shared
    Find hpCaslNotification.exe and rename it.
    Then open task manager and kill this process.
    You have to rename the file, simplly killing won't work because hphotkeymonitor service runs it every time you press caps lock, scroll lock or num lock.

    I have read your post on how you are looking to disable the caps lock/number lock notification on your desktop's display screen, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
    In order to remove HPKEYBOARD status from your startup programs, you will need to disable by following this document on Using Microsoft System Configuration (Windows 7). The Quick Launch application responsible for HPKEYBOARD should be among the services to disable.

  • ****PLEASE HELP ME SOMEONE**** PLEASE - Re: ON SCREEN CAPS LOCK INDICATOR

    can someone please help me before i pull all of my hair out.
    i have windows vista - 64 bit - the HP IQ500 touchsmart with a wireless keyboard.
    in the systray the num caps and scroll lock appears as little blue boxes (when on).
    everynow and again they simply disapper.
    i researced how to activate them again but cant remember how to do it.
    there is a way without having to mess with the registry and without downloading any program
    i just cant remember how. i know wherever it is...you ultimately get 3 boxes that you can check in order to turn the options back on.
    i am not talking about toggling, or sound, or mscofig and then boot.
    does anyone know the steps to turn the caps scroll and num lock indicator in teh sys tray back on
    oh, and right clicking on the toolbar and going to the notificiation area is not what i am referring to either.
    I checked in the control panel programs and the hp on screen caps lock indicator etc program is there.
    I reinstalled it nonetheless and confirmed it is installed properly
    When I right click on the notification area I do to properties/notification area/customize
    There are two lists there
    1. Current Items and
    2. Past Items
    For some reason I see caps lock - scroll lock and num lock under the past items
    There you are also able to change the status of the items to either Hide wne active, hide or show
    All three (caps/num/scroll) are SHOW
    I click apply OK then apply
    I restart the computer and nothing. The on screen caps lock indicator is still not in the notification area/systray area
    I repeat teh steps to ensure that the three have the SHOW option chosen and they are.
    So....
    Program is installed
    Items are check for SHOW
    Restart was done
    Ohhh and also...I went to MSCONFIG and made sure that the HP Keyboard Program was selected/check mark as one of the start up programs.
    There in a run command to activiate the 3rd party program (hp onscreen indicator program)
    When you enter the run command that I cant remember...you then get this option where there are three check boxes...one next to num lock - one next to caps lock and one for scroll lock.
    Once you check/select the boxes/options you want...presto they appear in the sys tray/notification area.
    I just cant remember the run command it to save my life.
    Please....put my mind to ease...cause I am losing it!
    I just cant seem to "walk away"...must be my OCD :-(
    Thanks

  • [KDE 4.9] Using a shell script as a KDE shortcut - Caps Lock Notify

    Hi, all
    I was trying to create a small script to send a notification if the Caps Lock is active or not. The script works correctly in the terminal, but when I use the script as a shortcut in KDE it does not work ... I simply trigger the shortcut with the "Caps Lock".
    Below is the script that I created:
    #!/bin/bash
    # Send a notification of CAPS LOCK on/off
    # Icon used in the notification
    icon="/usr/share/icons/NITRUX/devices/48/keyboard.svg"
    # verify if the CAPS is on/off
    value=$(xset q | grep "LED mask" | sed -r "s/.*LED mask:\s+[0-9a-fA-F]+([0-9a-fA-F]).*/\1/")
    if [ "$value" == "0" ]; then
    output="Off"
    else
    output="On"
    fi
    # Send notification (use Gnome or KDE)
    # GNOME
    #notify-send -i $icon "Caps Lock $output" -t 1000
    #KDE
    kdialog --icon $icon --passivepopup "Caps Lock $output" --title "Keyboard" 1
    Could someone help me pointing what I'm doing wrong?
    Thanks in advance!
    EDIT: If I do not use the "caps lock" as a trigger, the script works as it should (I tried using "ctrl + alt + L") ...

    Hi! Thanks for replying. I've tried the sleep command, still saying that caps is always on (if it is what you mean).
    What I meant is to do something like:
    $(sleep .5; echo kdialog --icon $icone --passivepopup "Caps Lock $saida" --title "Teclado" 1) &
    When I use it on the script it just printi "Caps" on the notification, as if it was reading just the first word of the "Caps Lock $saida".
    Edited the script to this:
    #!/bin/bash
    # Manda aviso de CAPS LOCK on/off
    # icone pra usar na notificacao
    icone="/usr/share/icons/NITRUX/devices/48/keyboard.svg"
    # verifica se o Caps esta ligado
    valor=$(xset q | grep "LED mask" | sed -r "s/.*LED mask:\s+[0-9a-fA-F]+([0-9a-fA-F]).*/\1/")
    if [ "$valor" == "0" ]; then
    $(sleep .5; echo kdialog --icon $icone --passivepopup "Caps Lock Off" --title "Teclado" 1) &
    else
    $(sleep .5; echo kdialog --icon $icone --passivepopup "Caps Lock On" --title "Teclado" 1) &
    fi
    # Dispara alerta (usar Gnome ou KDE)
    # GNOME
    #notify-send -i $icone "Caps Lock $saida" -t 1000

    Thanks for the info about single key short cuts. I guess it has never occurred to me. (Maybe because on a laptop you can't usually spare a whole key for a single short cut!)
    The script is the one in the OP. I'm using a laptop.
    EDIT:
    Updated OP script to english...

  • Why don't you display CAPS LOCK when my caps lock is on?

    I prefer Mozilla Firefox to Internet Explorer EXCEPT FOR ONE thing. Having complicated passwords requires uppercase and lowercase letters. Internet Explorer lets me know when I have my caps lock on. Mozilla Firefox does not so I end up having one heck of a time typing in passwords wherever I go. Does Mozilla Firefox have the CAPS LOCK ON notification but I haven't found the place to turn it on?

    Firefox does not have that type of option. Some "enter password" pages
    may give such a warning.
    You can look for a utility program that places something on the monitor.
