CAPS troubles

hi all,
i regularly copy and paste into mail because of my job, and it works great, except that i copy a lot of small Caps, bold caps and other formatted text, which then copies the format into mail. This is great until i type under the formatted text, and it continues being formatted. I can't find anything in the font pallette to get rid of small caps or all caps (i copy and paste from word where it's all included). Any thoughts? I know i can just move the cursor and reformat below, but i'd like a simple fix instead of a workaround. thanks.

There's a distinct possibility that your USB port is overloaded. Are you running the Wireless router from a powered hub? What happens if you disconnect the router?

Keyboard settings stuck on Key Caps/Link Troubles

Somewhere between finishing the installation of a Belkin wireless G router on my iMac, and rebooting the system to finalise, something has gone horribly wrong. My G3's keyboard now types in nothing but non-English symbols - the key cap settings have taken over. I'm almost positive that I've pressed the wrong key combinations at some point and wrought this newbie nightmare upon myself, but damned if I know how to reverse it. I've checked the keyboard control panel several times, and it always says that it's set to Roman characters, and US English.
Another anomoly that began at the same time is my inability to click links in IE 5. When links are clicked, the download manager comes up, but the target page does not. Bookmarks/Favorites work, but the links on any page don't.
And finally - for this installment - the "close window" box at the top left no longer closes level by level. It now closes out the entire folder at once. I had none of these problems fifteen minutes before finishing the Belkin and a Charter High Speed self-install disc. What the blazes did I do wrong, and please please pleeeease, someone help me figure out how to fix it!
Now that my panic and griping are out of the way, I can say hello to you all! I'm a Windows-raised computer geek, desperately wanting to make "the switch" for good. Hard to do that, though, when I can only type in French and German accents (on my PC at present.) I bought my iMac second-hand, and although it hasn't been upgraded since its whopping 64 megs of RAM were put in, it's every bit as quick as my 768 meg PC. Sometimes faster. Go figure.

You might look at "Keyboard Shortcuts" in the Keyboard and Mouse preference pane and see if somehow the lower case n has been inadvertently assigned to something.
Probably the best solution would be to click the "Restore Defaults" button.

Also, before going to step 5 and taking a screwdriver to it, try:
Powering up with Option held down
Booting from an install DVD with C or Option held down
Booting from an install DVD into Apple Hardware Test by holding D down

Trouble with ALSA, alsaequal, caps and mbeq

Hi! I'm new at this forum.
I'm trying to get an equalizer for ALSA in my Arch. First, I tried using alsaequal. I created both /etc/asound.conf and ~/.asoundr with the code that is in the wiki, but when I try to use "alsamixer -D equal", I get an error related to ladspa and caps, so I attemp to install "caps" from AUR, but I get another error when compiling the pkgbuild.
Then I decided to try mbeq method (also from the wiki), I changed the values in the equalizer but it doesn't work, even putting strange ones, the sound is the same.
Anybody could help me?

Thanks for your answer, brebs. I managed to install caps, but now I get another error while using "alsamixer -D equal". LXTerm returns this:
"ALSA lib ctl_equal.c:268:(_snd_ctl_equal_open) Problem with control file .alsaequal.bin, 3.
cannot open mixer: Operación no permitida"
What should I do now? =S

I am having trouble printing 4x6, 1" bottle cap images, they are printing too small

I have a new iMac and cannot get standard 1" bottlecap images to print to the correct size. They print slightly smaller than 1". They are printed on 4"x6" photo paper. I am selecting that size when I print. I also can print from photoshop. Thanks for any tips!

It seems that, embarrasingly I was tripple checking everything for 4x6 prints but actually had 5x7 loaded in the printer!

200n Keyboard - Caps Lock inverted = no numbers + all files highlighted

Factory o/s Vista Home + recovery CD
Faults occurred sometime after installing wireless printer. Computer left unattended. Son heard lots of beeping.
Caps lock worked but text was inverted which also resulted in no numbers. Selecting a file from a list resulted in all files above being selected.
Many things tried, restored to previous point, keyboard checked with MS diagnostic tool OK. Eventually keyboard stopped working (same with external USB keyboard) and it was impossible to restore using Recovery disc.
Paid to have system restored to Factory settings.
Memory and HDD checked and refitted. On final update, no 20 of 27 - bleeping and small Filter Key window appeared and kept on appearing 10/20 times during updating. Still both problems occurred.
Purchased new HDD and Win 7 upgrade
Installed XP pro sp2, could not type numbers in product key
Clean installed Win 7, Caps lock inverted and no numbers with Keyboard, USB keyboard and On-line keyboard. Again all files highlighted.
System Trouble Shooting – No changes or updated necessary.
System Restore – Error 0xC0003005
In Safe Mode – removed Norton leaving MS net 4, MS Silverlight, NVDIA driver.
Wireless mouse works.
Filter Key window appears sometimes.
Action Center – Richo memory stick controller incompatible, no card reader driver.
Can access msconfig but not mskey or msreg

Speed capped at 0.5 mbps?

Hi guys.
I live in a rural area around 4 miles from the nearest exchange. I have been with BT Broadband for several years and have always had a speed of around 0.5 megs and my intenet never looses sync (it may be worth noting i am on bt option 2, up to 16 meg i think). Recently i asked my neighbour (who is connected to the same telephone pole outside our house what speed his broadband was. He is with another isp (not BT) and said he gets a steady 1.5 meg speed and has done for over a year. At first i figured maybe something was wrong with the internal wiring in my house. So after some research i decided to removed the bell wire to all extension sockets and have installed a bt adsl faceplate on the master socket. (Also my router is connected to the master socket). I have also carried out a quiet line test on the line which seems to be perfectly silent.

These results are identical when i plug the router straight into the test socket.
Obviously i have a rather long line to the exchange (61.7 db att) but i also noticed my Noise margin seems rather high or is that normal? Here is also my speed test result.
Also i have just tried a different router (TP-LINK TD-W8960N) which had no real speed improvement. Here are the statistics it gave me.
I notice this router says i have an attainable sync rate of 1920?
So to sum up, I was wondering is it possible that my speed has been capped at 0.5 megs? And if so can this be reset?
It may be worth noting that about a year ago i had trouble with a dodgy router plug on my home hub 2 which kept turning the router off. Is it possible this is why i was capped?
I am not expecting to get superfast speeds as i am living in a rural area. But it would be nice to atleast get the same speed as my nextdoor neighbour. 0.5 Megs is painfully slow in this modern day world. It seems i am the only person i know who still has to wait 15 minutes to watch a 360p youtube video.
If my speed does not improve i may consider moving to the same isp as my neighbour (although personally i would have liked to stay loyal to bt)

Hey guys just thought i'd let you know that the moderators have been in contact with me. Totally surprised at how quick they replied to my request. (Less than a day)
Big thanks to Dean one of the mods. He has uncapped my line and im now receiving a stable 1.75 Sync speed.
Really amazed by how helpful you have all been and what a great job the mods are doing. Hopefully will be getting speeds around 1.5 Meg now which is 3 times faster than what i have been working with for the past several years.
It doesnt seem like much to some of you townies and city peeps. But for a rural area im really pleased with that.
So big thanks to Dean the mod, and to all you guys for your help!

Mac Pro having lots of lock up and crashing trouble

My early 2008 Mac Pro has been misbehaving for a while now in various ways. Now it is completely out of hand!
I was having some serious waking from sleep issues in the past and after performing a bunch of maintenance they got better (although they never disappeared completely). Now I am having a lot of trouble with the computer locking up. Usually within 10 minutes of waking from sleep, everything freezes. I can still move the mouse, and the computer will go into (and wake from) a monitor sleep but nothing on the screen is responsive.
Also, when waking from sleep, the screen goes blue for a few seconds before giving me the normal screen. Here is a copy of the console report from its most recent wake:

I have reset the PRAM, reset the SMC, tested the hard drive RAM and Video Card with tech tool and everything passed. Can anyone help me proceed form here? Is it possible in any way the the monitor could be responsible for any of this behavior? It's an old tube Apple display

Old drivers, outdated drivers and incompatible drivers can cause sleep problems.
If you are not using any M-audio devices, I would remove the files.
If you are, you should check for updates, and still should remove the offending files.
If you migrated your user files from a previous system, say from a PPC system, these can cause problems.
Start by running in safe mode, and see if the machine sleeps and wakes as it should.

I was trying to create a small script to send a notification if the Caps Lock is active or not. The script works correctly in the terminal, but when I use the script as a shortcut in KDE it does not work ... I simply trigger the shortcut with the "Caps Lock".
Below is the script that I created:

Thanks for the info about single key short cuts. I guess it has never occurred to me. (Maybe because on a laptop you can't usually spare a whole key for a single short cut!)

Remap CAPS as BackSpace

setxkbmap -option capslock:backspace
or in config

But the trouble is that sometimes when you press caps, backspace activated twice ...

Look into loadkeys from the kbd package. I use it to exchange Escape/Caps_Lock outside of X.

Is there something I'm doing wrong? Or is my computer just having a glitch? Other than that, and a mildly sticking caps lock button, it's working perfectly.

Java Caps 5.1.3. and SFTP (FTP over SSH)

I'm trying to use the BatchSFTP option from the batch eway to setup FTP over SSH. I'm having trouble in setting up the keyfile. I've generated a trusted_hosts file using openSSH via CYGWIN (I'm running on W2003 server). The error I get is: Batch SFTP eWay connection failed, method=[connect()], message=[Exception when connect(), e=java.io.IOException: Invalid SSH1 public key format].
Has anyone experience with FTP over SSH and can help me out on this.

You need to convert the server public key for the server that you are connecting with to the IETF SECSH format. If you have access to do that, you can run the command ssh-keygen -f myServerPublickey.pub -e > myIETFServerPublicKey.pub. Otherwise, your UNIX server admin will need to run that. Put the ITEF key in your .ssh directory and have CAPS reference that IETF format and you should be set. Make sure the connectivity map/env explorer is set to public key authentication.
I think there is a bug in CAPS with how it is handling the SSH formated key. I have been unable to prove it to support. Furthermore, more pressing issues have taken up my time (aka, other projects).

Thirdly, Lion introduced auto-save, so you have to duplicate the file, then open the duplicate to make changes.
Wonderfully asinine.
Quit the program, it will ask you to save.
