Caption being trimmed by PM 4.6.1? Or is it ACR?

Running CS3 and ACR 4.6, on an Intel Mac running 10.5.8  and using Photo Mechanic version 4.6.1
Hi, I sometimes (unfortunately..) have to add monstrously long captions to accompany images. In an instance today I captioned NEFs in Photo Mechanic (PM) with a 571 word (3201 character) caption and 'Apple E'd' them for editing in ACR 4.6. On outputting these NEFs from ACR as jpegs I discovered when I examined the caption info back in PM that the caption had been trimmed down to approx 355 words (1996) characters - it actually varied between files. So is this a PM issue or an ACR one and how do I fix it as I have to mess around adding the missing text which is a real hassle and slows down my workflow?
Many thanks for a swift response
Simon

It's not the usual setup and having two different brands would be even more unusual. What struck me is that I put an X300 in an HP back in 2005, so perhaps I just jumped to the wrong conclusion- that both the X300 and the GeForce 6800 are graphics cards rather than one or the other being the integrated graphics chipset that comes with the motherboard. If it ain't broke don't fix it. Adding a gig of RAM should reduce the number of apparent Lightroom interface freezes that last until the program finishes a process and should put off the number of "out of memory" freezes some. Just don't expect miracles.

  • Why aren't my text captions being read by JAWS 14.0?

    Hey All,
I need some help. I'm running Captivate 7 and I'm trying to make it accessible, specifically to JAWS 14.0. I've done some research and it seems as if I've followed all the steps necessary to achieve this, but when I view my project none of my images/text captions are being read.
To save some time here is what I've done so far:
Under File > Publish Settings > Publish Settings I've checked the Enable Accessibility box.
Under File > Project Info  I've provided a Project Name and Project Description.
I've added accessibility text to each slide (Only seems to work when I publish to HTML 5).
While a text caption is selected I've chosen the Accessibility button in the Properties panel and gave it a name and description.
I've done the previous step with images and buttons as well.
The problem is that the text captions and images are not being read by JAWS 14.0, and don't seem to be part of the tab order. It seems like they are not even there as far as JAWS is concerned. Am I missing a step, or does Captivate not support this type of accessibility?
"Please help me Adobe Community, you're my only hope."
    Thanks a bunch.

    Hello,
Text captions are static elements and hence they are not tabbable + not listed in TAB order Dialog.
For any static element (like Text captions, images, etc.), user need to use arrow keys to read them (when JAWS is used as screen reader)
All the interactive elements (like Buttons, Smartshapes as buttons), are tabbable and are listed in TabOrder Dialog.
Alternaltively, If you want your text items to be tabbable, you can use the Smartshape as Buttons.
    Thanks,

  • Whitespace being trimmed after mapping

    Hi,
    I have a sync scenario:
    CRM->XI->SOAP External System
in XI I have a BPM where I map some data from a locally defined schema to a schema defined in an external definition (BS7666).
The data is generated by a user defined function and produces something like "     10   Something", without quotes.
The mapping test tool generates perfect XML but when the BPM passes the results of the mapping step to the Sync call, the leading spaces get removed.  It's not the sxmb_moni display bug.
I've tried editing the xsd to add preserve whitespace to the field in question, but this seems to have the bizarre effect of removing additional spaces in the middle as well as the leading spaces (!).
XSD spec seems to indicate that whitespace is not trimmed unless requested.
    This is SPS 14.
    Thanks
    James.

    Hi James,
Did you try sending it to the target system and see if the whitespace is removed? Or you are just looking into SXMB_MONI and concluding that whitespaces aer removed. You can also try saving the file and check if the whitespace is removed.
Try this right click the payload in the left pane of SXMB_MONI and download it. Open it in the Notepad and see if you have the white space. Whenever it is displayed in a browser even in Internet Explorer the whitespaces are ignored... you need to have   for having more than 1 whitespace.
For a proof you can create your own XML in notepad with white spaces and open it in IE you will not see all the space.
Check this and let us know still you are facing the problem.
    Regards,
    Prakash

  • Lower 3rd effect on v2 track constantly being trimmed when editing

I notice when I'm editing, for some reason, the lower 3rd effect on the v2 track gets trimmed just a bit at the beginning and end of a clip on the v1 track without me doing it. I'm constantly having to adjust these. Anyone ever run into this? Is there a fix? Thanks.
    <Edited by Moderator>

I can't see anything inherently wrong with your methodology. Maybe as a test, put the title on V1, and the speaker on V2. Then cut out the speaker when you want the slide to show. Sort of reverse the process.

  • Lightroom 4 beta - captions out of sync with photo

I thought this email export was great and includig my capitons as well.  When I emailed them the captions would't stay with the photo they belonged to - out of order.   Exported 12 pics with email - all out of order.  Exported again just 3 pics and in order.  I hope this can be corrected because it was a great feature.

Same here, much confusion with the captions being out of any order when using the internal e-mail client.

  • Closed captions not synchronized

The kind of issues you are experiencing- captions being delayed, disappearing too quickly, etc. - are indicative of problems in the broadcast transmission path.  When we caption “Poldark” (and all of our shows), we time and review captions very carefully, insuring accuracy, completeness, and readability.  Captioning is reviewed twice more (by our technical staff, and again at PBS) prior to broadcast to find and eliminate any errors.  I suggest that you contact your TV provider (satellite or cable) in writing, and let them know what you are seeing.  There are several links in the broadcast transmission chain and captioning must be properly coded and flagged in order to pass through without errors.  Your provider should be able to troubleshoot and rectify any problems.  Sincerely,Pat McDonaldMedia Access Group at WGBH

I am unsure as to the actual answer, however, the "skin" that include the Closed Captions is actually an swf. The point of publishing to HTML is because some devices (ie I-pad) cant play the swf. So the HTML version skips the swf- which of course includes the "skin".
That said, I think the Table of Contents works in HTML, so maybe I am incorrect in sayin the "skin" is an swf. Maybe only the "playbar" is an swf. But it seems the CC is still related to the playbar.
If anyone knows how to use the built-in Closed Caption feature with HTML, I would LOVE to hear it. But I am suspecting the CCs will have to be done by hand.

  • InDesign captions

Hi all, I have a few questions regarding generating captions in InDesign CS5 (Windows).
I am designing school leavers books. Most pages are images with captions beneath, which for the past few years I have imported and generated respectively via a script, but would quite like to try CS5s live distribute and caption features to achieve the same results. But I have a few niggling problems -
I have a grid of student photographs, with their names beneath as captions (taken from the filename). How can I remove the extension after the filename (ie John Smith.jpg should be John Smith)?
Secondly, although I can control the vertical placing of the caption via the offset setting, my captions are all appearing a few cm to the right of the image, even though they are meant to be directly beneath, the width of the frame containing the image. I have dragged a whole group from Mini Bridge and then created the relevant sized grid using the arrow keys, but can't seem to stop this.
Also, some pages are galleries made up of a few images, for example a school trip, and text beneath. This text is generally longer than a filename ought to be so I have been trying to add them by entering this text into the description of the jpeg in Photoshop. I have been creating the captions as above but using the 'Description' text as opposed to the 'Name' text. It works - kind of. However the caption only appears on one line, no matter how long it is, with the tracking seemingly being automatically altered to get the caption no matter how long into the one line.
Thanks for any suggestions, I'm quite liking the features in CS5 so far, although it seems quite temperamental (lots of freezing/crashing when doing small things, for example modifying a colour/style)!

I had the same problem with the captions being placed to the right.  Now I have an empty caption box stored as a Library item, and I just drag it below a photo when I need a caption.  Got that from this article (which I thought was very helpful):
    http://indesignsecrets.com/store-live-captions-in-libraries.php
Maybe you'll find that useful too.
    Thanks, Phyllis
P.S.  That also allows you to have an object style on the caption box automatically (which I found helpful).

  • Live Stream Captioning

I have a live stream with line 21 captioning being sent to AMS5. Im wondering if AMS will convert this to onTextData for use with flash players like JW Player. If not, is there a work around or guide on how to make line 21 captioning work with AMS.

No problems here viewing CNN live streams.  According to CNN FAQ, you need Flip4Mac to view their live streams/videos.
"You may watch live video using the Flip4Mac plugin and Quicktime 7.1.2+"

  • Does SSD Trim work at disk or partition level?

Trim is enabled on my MacBook Pro (About this Mac etc), but the HD has a Bootcamp partition on it.
My belief is that the Bootcamp partition is not being trimmed...is this right? (Would love to be wrong)
As I understand it Trim in Windows 7 can only be enabled in AHCI mode and enabling AHCI seems difficult. Has anyone done it and got Trim working on a Bootcamp partition.

  • Trimming tool problems with merged clips

I'm trying to edit a filmstyle sequence with merged clips (created video and audio synched, then merged into new clips). This works fine, except when I try to trim edits in the sequence - the trim tool works, but the picture in the left and right trim windows jump to different parts of the clips being trimmed, and do not show the correct frames being trimmed. The trim tool works fine when used with unmerged clips, but somehow can't seem to work with the synched up clips
The footage being edited was shot on RED and is in pro rez 4:4:4 format.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? Is this a bug, or is there a way around this? Thanks for any pointers...

I created a new user account and trashed my preferences and I have the same problems. I created a new project, and new sequences. Same problems.
It only happens with 23.98 (batch reverse telecined using Cinema Tools) NTSC DV clips that have been merged with separate 24-bit 48 khz Quicktime audio clips (converted from BWF using BWF2XML). Clips that were captured from the tape with audio and video simultaneously don't have this problem. The discrepancies between the actual amounts trimmed and the white numbers in the trim windows are consistent. If it's off by 6:10 on a clip, every time I try to trim that clip it will be off by the same amount. But the number varies from clip to clip. It's generally 5-8 seconds.
If I try to trim only the audio, I don't have any trouble. If I trim the audio and video at the same time I don't have any trouble. It's only when I trim the video on its own. If I use the original video clip before it's merged with an audio track then it trims fine. If I cut the merged clip into a sequence then delete the audio track from the sequence the problem remains.

  • PP 2014 Project Manager not Trimming Clips

Project Manager pretty straight forward however the ProRes clips are not being trimmed. I tried both 24 and 0 (yes radio buttons were selected) but when I reopened the project the clips were full clips.
    thoughts?

I'm having the exact same issue now and it seems to be related to what types of format Premiere supports for trimming.
My project consists of the following file formats:
    XAVC 100Mbit MXF
    XDCAM HD422 .mov
    ProRes 422 .mov
If I remove XDCAM and XAVC from the project, Project Manager trims the clips, but if XAVC and XDCAM is in the project the files doesn't trim.
Adobe Help-page mentions this: "Some formats, such as Long GOP based media files, cannot trim media, or add handles." But it doesn't state what these "some formats" are. XDCAM is Long GOP, but XAVC 100MBit is Intra and shouldn't be affected.

  • Relative/absolute keyframes when trimming

    Hi,
I'm using some motion templates for titles in FCPX. Sometimes I just want to shorten the title in the timeline. By doing that the animation in the motion/titles template speed up. It does not seem to matter whether I use the trim or the blade tool.
Is there a way to keep absolute keyframes rather than relative one ?
Is there a setting in FCPX or Motion 5 to chose how the keyframes behave when the clip is being trimmed?
    Thanks for you feedback.
    /Max

To keep keyframes "absolute" for FCPX templates, you need to add a project marker, either Build In, Build Out (or both); or Project Loop End.
To add one of these markers: In Motion, click on the Layers List anywhere NOT on an object (deselect all layers). Move the playhead to the point in the project you want the animation to end and type 'M' to add the marker and command-option-m to pop up the dialog to set the type. (The "Optional" versions will provide a checkbox in FCPX that will allow the user to turn on or off the marker behavior.)
Build In will run the animation from the beginning to the marker and then "hold" if the clip has been lengthened or be truncated if shortened. (Build In markers are typically *past* the last keyframe)
Build Out will run the animation from the marker to the end of the project, "holding" at the beginning if the clip is lengthened and truncating (from the front end) if shortened. (Build Out is typically just before the first keyframe - or the beginning of the project)
You can use Build In and Build Out together, the space (or time) in between the two markers will be "expandable" or expendible (on resizing the clip).
Project Loop End will run the animation, truncating if shortened and looping if lengthened. (Project Loop should always be the best "looping point" in a project -- everything past this marker is **ignored** in FCPX, which is a rather important distinction. Project Loop will not have a specific effect while playing the project in Motion)

  • Loss of trim/adjustments on timeline?

    Good afternoon.
I have opened an FCE project into my FCP. Have trimmed the footage, so to the left we have the subject, and to the right it was my intention to have some text. When I put the text (standard only. Not livetype) onto the timeline sitting above the footage I want it to refer to, as soon as the playhead reaches that point, the trims are lost and my text does not even come up, I have in its place the footage as it was before being trimmed. ie. A radiator and painting on the peripheral of the shoot was trimmed out by me... it's now back as all trim has gone. However, as soon as the playhead moves past the text box, it returns to the trim version????
    Any ideas?

Just to add to my previous post, it seems on render, the prob disappears BUT I have 90mins of footage to subtitle and a further 3.5 hours of subtitle cards.... is there a quicker way of putting them onto the timeline without having to render as each text card will be up for slightly different durations??
    Thank you.

  • Closed Caption for hearing-impaired!

    Hey guys,
I am hearing-impaired, i need to know, Does anyone have any informaztion on closed captioning being available with Apple TV?
My hearing loss I cannot enjoy and movie or tv show without captions. My local Apple Store really didn't know if captioning would be included or not but they said they would be setting up a system in the store to try.
    Thanks

"selected" content has closed captions (not all).
any content that does have them will have the CC logo displayed in the store.

  • Photo Caption Length Limit?

I like to use sometimes lengthy [probably 2-3 sentences max] captions with photos, and can't find a way to do it with iWeb.
There seems to be a built-in limitation, regardless of text size/placement. I would rather avoid the blog idea where you have to show one picture, then write your text, then show another etc., as I want to post galleries of pictures.
Any suggestions? I haven't found a service yet with .mac or anyone else that seems to allow editing of galleries for placement, and yet also long enough [more than one sentence on average] captions.
    Thanks!
    G5 Dual 2G   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   1.75G Ram

Thanks for the specifics--and I tried that...but short of making the font so small it's unreadable, I don't think that works. As for captions being...well...captions, let me give you an idea what most photo captions are like length-wise:
"German midfielder David Odonkor, left, and forward Lukas Podolski pose as they celebrate with fans at the 'Fan Mile' in Berlin on Sunday July 9, 2006. Thousands of German soccer fans celebrate their team after Germany beat Portugal 3-1 at the third place match of the soccer World Cup on Saturday."
Breaking up the photos so that more text can be entered inbetween doesn't then tie the specific caption to each photo. It just seems pretty obvious to me--and simple, in terms of programming--to allow the user to set how big [in character numbers] we want the associated text to be, instead of just the apparent rudimentary space they allow now.
After searching for a program that would allow this--from iDisk/.mac to Flikr etc., I thought iWeb would be the answer--but apparently not.
When Apple touts itself as being so photo-supportive, with all of it's software--I don't know why none of the applications supports more than minimal text per photo. They've advanced to photo-casting, etc., but if I want to attach what I deem to be regular-sized captions, I have to resort to the very old-fashioned, time-consuming embedded email methods to send them out to others.
