Caption in iphoto

Pretty simple question: how do I put a caption at the bottom of a photo in my iphoto inventory (I want to put name & title of a person)?
I did a search in iphoto for "caption" and "photo caption" but nothing came up  -- is caption the wrong word to use? (maybe they use "title" like in iMovie?)
Thanks for your help!
p.s. I want to move these "captioned" photos into iMovie.

There is no way to add text to a photo in iPhoto.
As you're going to be using these images in iMovie the easiest thing is to add captions there, plus that way, you won't deface the actual photos.
Otherwise: you'll need an external editor:
In order of price here are some suggestions:
Seashore (free)
The Gimp (free)
Graphic Coverter ($45 approx)
Acorn ($50 approx)
Pixelmator ($50 approx)
Photoshop Elements ($75 approx)
There are many, many other options. Search on MacUpdate. You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.

  • Update caption in iPhoto and push to iWeb

    scenario:
    1) i have photos imported to iPhoto and have created albums
    2) i have used iPhoto albums in iWeb photo albums
    3) the iPhoto captions are properly displayed in iWeb and its albums - except:
3b) when i update the captions in iPhoto - which i assume should be my "master" file for photos -- the captions are not pushed to iWeb like photo additions/deletions are.
is there a way to force an update from iPhoto to iWeb to pick up caption changes to my photos?
    thanks

If you want an automatically updated MMe gallery in one of your iWeb pages you can do it as follows:
1 - create and publish a MMe gallery from iPhoto. Use iPhoto to keep it updated.
2 - open the MMe gallery in your browser and get it's URL.
3 - in iWeb embed the gallery into your web page using iFrame code and an HTML snippet as seen in this demo page: MobileMe Galleries and Quicktime Movies
The demo uses the URL for the mosaic mode of the galley. You can use any of the available modes as the default to display in your web page. Granted it's a wee bit larger on the page than a gallery created in iWeb but it will be automatically updated whenever you update it with iPhoto.

  • How can I restore iPhoto titles and captions to iPhoto JPEGs sent to, and opened in, Aperture 3?

How can I restore iPhoto titles and captions to iPhoto JPEGs sent to, and opened in, Aperture 3?

Thank you very much, Kirby.  Your suggestion was exactly what I needed.  It proved to be a big help even to my One-to-One Aperture trainer at the Naperville IL Apple store.  My slideshow text, caption, and music attributes also were carried over intact to the new Aperture 3 environment.  - A.Z.

How do I write captions using iphoto 09?

Use the Description field in the Info pane. This will be written to the Exif Metadata on export.
Or do you mean put text onto Photos? You can't do that with iPhoto. You'll need an external editor for that.

what is the easiest way to add a caption to a picture in iphoto?

Use the Description box in the Info window.
Or do you mean onto the face of the photo? If so, you'll need an external editor for that.

  • Can't transfer albums (w/ captions) from iPhoto 6.0.6 to 9.2

I've recently upgraded to a new computer (from mac os x 10.4.11 to 10.7.2) and am trying to transfer my photos, albums and captions/descriptions with each photo into my new iphoto 9.2, but after 2 tries, i get the same result, only the pictures (and thumbnails for some reason), and larger albums transfer and without any captions.  i really don't want to have to go through 5,000 photos and relabel them manually if I don't have to. any help is greatly appreciated!

then dragged it from the USB into the new iPhoto library.
And in doing that you imported one Library to another.
Never import one Library to another. Every version and thumbnail is imported like a distinct photo, you lose all your Albums, Keywords etc., the link between Original and Previews is destroyed, the non-destructive editing feature is ruined and so on. In summary: it's mess.
To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network,Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.

  • Problems with Captions in IPhoto Book

I received the IPhoto book I ordered yesterday. Six pages contain mistakes in the photo captions. In all instances the mistakes are misprints of dates (ex (048 instead of 1948). I have looked through the discussion threads and haven't come across anyone who has had this problem. I've emailed Apple Support but wonder if anyone else has had this problem. How can it be solved?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Contact Apple via their iPhoto customer service page, http://www.apple.com/support/iphoto/customerservice/orderbooks/. You should be able to get a refund. Others have reported success in doing so with incorrect books. Good luck.

  • Titles and captions in iphoto slideshows on ipad

I am using iphoto on the ipad.  Ive managed to add photos and music but want to professionalise my slideshow by adding some title pages and captions.  Dont seem to be able to find out how to do this?  I've clicked on ? But there doesn't seem to be any hints.

Well, Ive found the caption adder in edit, but what about title pages?  Can anyone help with this?

  • Difficult to edit titles and captions in iPhoto '11

Everytime I edit the title field or the caption field under information of each picture, iPhoto has a tendency to sometimes either "Undo" what I just typed, or jump to the end of the sentence.
    For example, the title is
    0707_10_TietgenJazz
As I start to edit it, marking the first part, typing in 07.07.10 instead, and in a second it will go back to the original title.
Its even more frustrating to edit in caption, as it constantly undos. So right now I can only copy paste from elsewhere.

    DanShou,
    "You're not alone".
I've just imported a pile of new photos. While editing both the name and description fields, iPhoto "sometimes" ignores my text (during text entry) and reverts to the previous text.
I've tried to reproduce this issue to see if I can identify a root cause, but there doesn't seem to be a specific trigger. Sometimes it works without issue, others it really frustrates me.
I've taken to writing some of my descriptions in Text Edit and copy/pasting it into iPhoto.
Has anyone else found this issue?

  • Captions in iPhoto for Mac

It is easy to caption photos in iPhoto for iOS, by clicking "Add Caption."  How do you caption photos in iPhoto for Mac?  Where is the iPhoto for iOS caption stored in the Exif data?

    Terence,
Thanks once again.  At least in my version of iPhoto, the words "Add a description..." do not appear when you are looking at an individual photo, although they are there when looking at an Event.  In my ignorance of iPhoto, I did not know that the dialog box was even there in the absence of the "Add a description..." indication.  Once I found it by moving my cursor over there, I was able to type in the description (as well as the Title in the similarly unlabeled dialog box above.  See below.

  • How do I link Photo Title and Photo Caption in iPhoto Book

When using the yearbook template in iPhoto I have found that the Title is not linked to the photo Captions are linked most of the time, so if I move a photo I have to reset all the titles. How can I link them?

    hi Jim,
Are the titles that are not moving ones that you gave the photos while you were in the book mode?
I was just wondering if you gave the titles to the photos in the library view if it would work differently.
Ok, I just tested it. Before you make the book, give all the photos the correct titles and comments if any. Now highlight that album and choose to create a book. The titles and comments will move with the images this way.
I also tested an image that was already placed in the book and it had a title that it was imported as. I changed the title in the library view, went back to the book and moved the photo. The title that I just gave it in the library view moved with the photo.

  • How to insert captions in iPhoto for slides

I've watched the videos and they say you can do it, but I cannot find in the menus. I see a Text Box under the Slide Show screen, but cannot engage it. I also click on the Settings icon and click on the Titles box, but I do not get a text box to insert the text on each slide.
    My iPhoto is Version '11.
    Your assistance is appreciated.

Gentlemen, that is Old Toad and Terry Devlin,
First, Old Toad, apologies for not getting my act together to submit a screen shot properly. Missed a few essential steps to do so. Terry, the screen shot I am including is self-explanatory in response to your instructions.
Here is the URL to access my iPhoto screen.
    http://screencast.com/t/z9hgeEEk
Question arising at my end, is why my iPhoto screen is not the same as either of yours. That is, I do not have a TEXT BOX icon. This is frustrating me to know end especially with having the latest version of iPhoto [at least I think I have.

  • Ios iphoto "add a caption" removed if photo exported why ?

Where outside iphot can the captions be viewed
    - I've synced a photo folder from itunes to my ipad.
    - Worked on them all in iphoto so they are edited and given them each a caption
    - Now to get them to my computer I've decided to copy to camera roll.
    - I've reopened iphoto and it updated the new photos in camera roll but it has WIPED the captions.
I have seen the same if I try to export to itunes then reopen in iphoto on ipad.
What is the point of using captions in iphoto if you cant save them in any other app and read them. They are not saved in the EXIF or IPTC info of the image, as I've looked at that in Photoforge2.
When will iphoto for ipad get an update its workflow needs tweaks to make it amazing, it doenst need a re-write.
I really want to love this app stop making it hard to use it just isn't apple.

Apparently captions are used only in iPhoto. Not sure why.

  • Lost Captions when Transferring from iPhoto to Aperture

I had iPhoto 6 which I used for several years to store my photos. Upon getting Aperture 3 recently, I imported the entire library of photos into Aperture so I could have them there.
Since iPhoto 6 didn't support direct transition to Aperture, I needed to import them with the method of "Folders as Projects"
This worked for the most part, however I am facing the major problem that all my captions from iPhoto are lost in Aperture.
Is there any way to do a more direct import or to have the captions retained? Is there a method that can export them first from iPhoto so that the captions are tagged with the folder?
    Please help.

As TD said... and you could upgrade to iPhoto 9 for $15 from the Mac App Store . Are your captions worth $15?
One thing to note: Upgrading your library from 2005 to the latest iPhoto won't necessarily be without issues either although iPhoto 9 has been out for awhile and most of the bugs should be worked out by now.
