Captions for Web Galleries Created by Aperture 2

I recently created a web gallery with Aperture 2 and posted it on .Mac. When looking at the Settings for for the Web Gallery (under Aperture 2), I see an option to "Show Version Name." I'd like to use the caption for each photo as opposed to using the version name. Is there a way to use the photo's caption without changing the version name? I would hate to re-type (or copy & paste) the captions into the Version Name.

Shoot me down in flames if I am not understanding you, but here is my experience of AP2 and iWeb. Before I publish a web gallery I make sure to select all my target pictures and update the previews. Next I publish the gallery and check it's working. When I open iWeb and click on the media inspector I can see the web gallery when I navigate down through my Aperture entries. Now, this is where we may part company, but like you I cannot see any reference to the gallery in the Insert menu - but all I did was click on the gallery in the media inspector and drag it onto an iWeb page. At this point I got the option to choose a theme for the page and iWeb built it for me using my gallery.
Is this helpful to you guys, or am I so far off the mark it's untrue

Ampersand in Title/Caption for Web Galleries

I've been getting to grips with the
Sean's tip for formatting captions in web galleries, including
Matthew's Slimbox gallery. As you'll see in the thread linked above, I had some trouble initially using it with Slimbox, but I thought I'd got to grips with it until...
A title for one of my pictures was "Beer & Blues". By that I mean the Title field in the Library module, as distinct from the Title field in the Web Module.
In Flash galleries it works just fine.
In the LR HTML (and Slimbox) galleries using an & in the image title metadata field can cause a variety of symptoms including:
- just displaying a blank background and never getting round to rendering the gallery when Web module is selected
- replacing "Custom Settings" next to the Title/Caption radio buttons in the Web module with "Edit...", consuming 100% CPU, displaying the rainbow spinning beach ball of death, and taking several minutes to return
- apparently working but obstinately refusing to acknowledge any edits made
There appears to be some interaction between this behaviour and using the <ag:formatted> technique, but I'm struggling to pin it down.
All of these symptoms disappear by using either "and" or "&" in place of "&".

Using Simpleviewer Pro for Web galleries creation

For once, I don't have a problem, I just want to share a wonderful experience with Simpleviewer Pro. Simpleviewer (the free version) comes with LR and is pretty fast and easy to figure out. However, I went and bought the Pro version for $35 and found it much more powerful and faster. It does everything I wanted from a Gallery generation application. I installed it on my desktop but when I tried the same installation on the Laptop, it crashed and told me it cannot install. After emailing techsupport I got an answer virtually in hours. It gave me specific steps to try to resolve the problem and asked to be kept posted on developments. I tried a second time, unsuccessful again and emailed svBuilder-PRO with copies of the error messages I was getting. They got back to me right away : the problem was actually a WINDOWS problem, where an old version of Adobe AIR could not be unistalled to put the new one (Simpleviewer pro uses Adobe AIR). My email had a link to a Microsoft support site which had a Microsoft FIXIT executable. I downloaded and ran the FIXIT, it fixed the problem and svBuilder - Pro installed correctly.
In two words, this software is fast, powerful and elegant, it gives me everything I need for WEB Galleries creation and I would highly recommend it to anybody trying to do (or help doing) a WEB site.

Here's the appropriate language relating to this
d) Soundtrack Pro. You may use the Apple and third party audio ﬁle content (including, but not limited to, the built-in sound ﬁles, samples and impulse responses) (collectively the “Audio Content”), contained in or otherwise included with the Apple Software, on a royalty-free basis, to create your own original soundtracks for your ﬁlm, video and audio projects. You may broadcast and/or distribute your own soundtracks that were created using the Audio Content, however, individual audio ﬁles may not be commercially or otherwise distributed on a standalone basis, nor may they be repackaged in whole or in part as audio samples, sound ﬁles or music beds.
It mentions that you can distribute your audio projects, so that might seem to indicate that the answer is yes. The language is clearer in regard to synchronized music to picture, or audio for broadcast or other distribution.
+Personally I see a gray (grey) area here . . . what about if I took a piece of stock music from the audio content and wrote lyrics to it and called it a song. Can I claim sole authorship of that . . . the agreement seems to indicate yes, but that doesn't scan to me.+
Anyway, i think if you're talking about writing a song using loop content, I'm pretty sure the answer is yes you can sell the resulting creation. _But I'm no lawyer_. It's probably open to debate.

Web Gallery created in Aperture not listed

I created three new web galleries using Aperture 2 and they are not showing up when I try to add them to my iweb page. When I log on to my .mac account they are only visible when I choose my gallery. They are not listed out with the ones I created in iPhoto. What am I doing wrong?

I've asked this question ever since the option was offered.
Know of no one that has had it work and have never seen an answer.
Sent feedback to Apple. No reply.
Called tech support. They had no idea.
You see the file on the Idisk, but they are not recognized by Iweb.
Would love to know the answer.

Saving images for web - is there an aperture equivalent to adobe sfw?

I'm the web designer for a small school. Aperture has been a godsend for keeping track of my work, but I want to learn more about how to use it. I want to pick the brains of you web designers out there...
When I export an image to save to our webpage, I usually use Photoshop CS2's "Save for Web" dialogue. This works, but means I have to export out of aperture, open in photoshop, then save for web. I'm trying to streamline the process and was hoping there's a way to do this in aperture. Let me give you a scenario...
If I export an image in ps that is 400x400 at jpeg quality 7, it is ~30KB in size. If I use aperture's "Export Version" and check 400x400, no metadata, jpeg 7, I get a 100KB file. This is no good for my web pages. So... is there something in there that will get me the same small files, or am I stuck with adobe???

Interesting, yes - Aperture's export appears to create resource forks for the files. I'm guessing this is to hold the preview image.
I've just exported some images, and in the Terminal, with 'ls -l', they show up as 17k. In the Finder, they're 76k.
I created copies using 'ditto --norsrc', and the copies are now the smaller size in the Finder too.

MobileMe Galleries created in Aperture are syncing with iPhoto

I used to use iPhoto, but switched to Aperture 3. Now when I create a MobileMe Gallery, the photos publish to the site but don't show up in the Aperture library under MobileMe. When I log in to the Mobileme site, I check the settings for the gallery and it says it is syncing with iPhoto. I can change it to Aperture manually, and then it will show up properly when I go back to Aperture, but I can't figure out why it's defaulting to iPhoto. I went into the iPhoto preferences and removed all accounts, and there also are not any photos in iPhoto at all. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks Richard, very helpful. I wondered why I couldn't see my old mobileme galleries in Aperture.
I have swapped between iPhoto '09, Aperture 3, iPhoto '11 and now back to Aperture. Whilst I love the ease of use and relative speed of iPhoto, Aperture's adjustments and masters/versions handling has the edge for me now that my masters collection is too big for my MBP. And with a clean install of Lion my machine now seems more responsive than it has been for a while.
Changing the setting of each gallery is a bit dull, is there a global 'manage mobile me galleries with iPhoto/Aperture' setting anywhere?

"Tell a friend" email for web galleries- black on black for PC users

Whenever I send out an email to friends with info for a web gallery, everyone who uses a PC (most everyone I know) gets the email and the text is black on a black background and they can't read it. I have to add text to the email with the username and password. When I cc myself on the email and get it on my Mac, it's white text on black background.
What's going on here? It's been this way for 4 web galleries so far.

Try using the Tell a Friend option in iPhoto's toolbar instead of the option of the online gallery. It will look like this except I've changed the font and color of the lower URL line which you can do with this method.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

Using web galleries created in Lightroom

Is it possible to use the nice web galleries from Lightroom in Muse? If so, what is the best way to bring them into a Muse site?

Problem Exporting for Web files created in FCE using Quicktime

I have been using FCE 4.01 on Mac OSX 10.7.5 with Quicktime 10.1 (501.29).
I convert my footage in Mpeg Streamclip (GREAT free program) and set the files to the Apple Intermediate Codec. This makes them work really well in my timeline and I don't have rendering issues or problems.
So, my problem comes when I File/Export/Quictime Movie.
The original file plays fine, but they're 2-3 gbs each, so I put them into Quicktime to convert them to a webfriendly size, but every single time they come out as an audio only file. GRRRR!
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Maybe I'm missing something stupid.

Why not bring the exported AIC file back into MPEG Streamclip instead of QTX? You'll have a lot more control.
Compress the file to H.264 and restrict the data rate according to the resolution you're working with and to something consistent with the guidelines of the Web Service (say, You Tube) you're uploading to, (For example, something like 6 Mb per second would be about right for a 720P file.)
Or use Quicktime Conversion from FCE.

Aperture web galleries:How to get rid of metadata?

Purchased Aperture today, and consequently a novice. I like the web galleries
created within Aperture, but would like to have the webpages show up without
any metadata/dates/info. Where is the setting/pref for this?

with the gallery album selected, click on the little
tag icon with the capital T in it ...
that brings up a drop down ... select none and make
sure at the bottom it says enable plate metadata ...
the opposite disable plate metadata means it is on
and you need to disable ...
easy as pie ...
Actually I spoke too soon...I followed your directions, and the thumbnails are fine, but when opening the individual images in the browser, the **** data is there again. Must be something I am missing. Selected 'none' and 'enable metadata'. Is it a bug or is it me?

Web galleries showing in iweb after updates for anyone?

Wondering if anyone has tried and be successful publishing a web gallery from Aperture 2 and having it show up in the Iweb insert menu.
I get Iphoto galleries showing up, but not Aperture. The files are on the idisk.

I too have just discovered that web galleries created in Aperture show up on the web, but do not show up on the insert menu under iWeb. This is bad because I'm creating blog entries as we speak, and cannot insert recently created galleries into them. Any solutions anyone?

Linking Aperture Web Galleries together

I am trying to make my first web site using Web Galleries created by Aperture. I can not figure out how to have an index page (a page one first goes to when one goes to your site) and then have links to the Aperture Web Galleries.
Can Aperture do this ? Or do I need other software that create the central index page ?
What software are Aperture users maintaining the Aperture web Galleries with ?

Using captions (or, hiding file names) for Web Gallery with Aperture 2.0

Is there a way to add captions to pictures displayed using the Aperture 2.0 web gallery without changing the actual file name? I'd like to keep the file name but add a caption to each photo if possible.

I'm not making extra versions for this, just using the version name as the name in the web gallery. If you are not already using the version name then it lends itself to web gallery naming nicely. If you are using version names already, perhaps reconsider how necessary this is to you as you are tying up this other potential use.
My file names all contain a date and index number but I try and use more 'user friendly' version names if part of my final output will be for web galleries. This is good for clients as they don't have complicated names to order, but it's also a cinch to find the files using the search bar in Aperture.

Help, Aperture web galleries not showing up on iWeb insert menu!

All of my iPhoto web galleries show up fine on the Insert menu (Insert > .Mac web gallery) for placement in a web page. None of the galleries created in Aperture show up. They all exist fine on the gallery page. This is very annoying

Yes, I have seen your name come up a lot in these posts. It seems it's just a total oversight on the part of Apple. I'm sure the issue lies with iWeb and not Aperture. There must be some list to look up and iWeb just fails to look in more than one place. Lets hope there is a +0.0.1 update soon.

I don't have web galleries posted from aperture showing up in iweb either. Also The web galleries I deleted from iphoto I cannot republish from aperture. I went into my idisc and deleted them as well buy it seems there is still some sort of duplicate problem. Uploading a few photos at a time seems to be no problem, but when I try and upload the whole origninal gallery it doesn't work from aperture.
