Captions in book

i am making a book in iphoto and deleted the placeholder text on the pages and now when i go back into those blank text boxes it won't allow me to type in new text. any suggestions? thanks.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. That certainly is strange behavior. Try Fix 101: delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder, reboot, launch iPhoto, reset its preferences and try again.
P.S: if your library is not located in the default location, User/Pictures folder, you'll also have to repoint iPhoto to it's location.

  • With Leopard, iPhoto6 will no longer print captions in books

    Now that I've upgraded to Leopard, iPhoto6 (6.0.6) will no longer print the captions in books when I send them to my desktop printer (Epson Stylus Photo R300). It does print the titles on the front covers. For calendars, it'll print the lines but not the dates. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

    Try repairing permissions, try the latest security update, try recreating your drivers from scratch using the latest drivers on Xerox's website, try using open source drivers*, or recovering your old copy of the previous operating system from your backup and disabling Java.

  • Issues with Images when used w/ Caption Widget & Book File Size Q

    Hi Everyone,
    I was having issues with images not showing up and determined it was the caption widget causing the issue. I now have one of two issues happening consistently. Either the image does not show at all or just the caption box with bkgd gray and caption text shows, but without the image.
    Anyone else have this issue?
    Ay ideas would be greatly appreciated. I wasw just about finished with this project when this started!
    Also, the size of the book is considerably larger than I realized.It is 81 mb. . . How does this compare to any of your books?
    THANKS SO MUCH!
    Belinda

    Belinda,
    I can't speak to your main issue, as I cannot recreate the problem over here.
    As a guess, have you checked to make sure you're not running out of harddrive space? iBA can consume space quickly, and behaves oddly when it begins to run out of room.
    But as far as filesize goes, I can only wish for an 81 MB book. Mine is currently a little over 2 GB and growing. Tonight I had to split it into 2 volumes just so iBooks Author can run at a reasonable pace. I was getting tired of waiting 1-2 minutes after dragging a video around on the page before I could get control of the program again.
    You should note that Apple is expecting large filesizes for this new Multi-Touch format. The docs on iTunesConnect say the largest allowed upload size for a book is 16GB 2BG (see link below)

  • Captions in book don't print

    I'm using iPhoto 5.04 to build my first book. It's complete and includes a total of 62 pages, plus the cover and title pages. I have a number of pages that use a 2 picture layout with a caption at the bottom of the page. When I print pages to proof read the book, none of these captions print, just for this particular layout, after page 46. Has anyone else seen this and if so, do you know if there is any way around it. Short of a work around, how can I find out if iPhoto 6 has the same problem.
    Thanks,
    Keith

    Old Toad:
    Thanks for the response. I found the post on the preferences file yesterday and looked at it. I had never made changes before and all the settings were at their defaults. In particular, I looked at the DPI settings. The book DPI settings are 150, 150, and 300 in order (TargetImage, TargetMediumImage, and TargetSmallImage). I changed the small setting to 150 but it had no affect. PrintingImageDPI is at 720 and I haven't changed that. Should I reduce it to see if it matters?
    After receiving your post this morning, I deleted the preference file and the two cache folders. It didn't have any affect. I've also repaired the disk permissions on my system and retried everything above with no change in results.
    A couple of other questions before I go any further. Are there any parameters in the preferences file that specifically relate to printed text? Do you know what the chances are that this is fixed in iPhoto 6?
    Thanks for your efforts. I appreciate your help.

  • IPhoto Name as Photo Caption in Book?

    Is it possible to automatically import photo titles from iPhoto as the caption in a book? I have a large project I am working on and I don't want to re-type each caption. Thanks!

    I'm with AlienCamel on this one. I just captioned a picture (Titled it and added text to the Description) and then exported it. None of the fields are labeled "Caption" and the exported file has the text I added to Description and Title correctly handled. It looks like the Folio theme will use the Title as the caption, not the description as would make sense.
    It really doesn't matter when the Title/Caption is created: even if you edit it in iPhoto, it updates immediately in the book. So it's really just a matter of finding out what things are called. So you can edit it outside of the iPhoto/Aperture toolchain.
    If you want a look at this stuff, you can get the Finder into on the picture and you'll see what's there to work with.
    So to answer the OP's question, yes, you can. But some of the themes have placeholder text to Description that is not needed.

  • I dont know nothing about XML, but...

    could it fit my purposes...
    my purpose can be seen here

    I was thinking that I could write the game in a text editor like this... is this XML and how I easily read this in to my game classes?
    <scene name=church>
    <hotspot action=gotoDoor()>
    <posx value=2>...
    </hotspot>
    </scene>
    <script name=gotoDoor()>
    <command name=ChangeStateCommand() subject=door state=opened>
    </script>

    <GAME>
    <STARTUP action="Startup"/>
    <SCRIPT name="Startup"> <ITEM name="Book" caption="Basic book">
      <INVENTORYIMAGE name="booki.jpg"/>
      <SCENEIMAGE name="books.jpg"/>
      <COMBINATION name="Book2" result="MysticBook"/>
    </ITEM>

       <COMMAND type="wait" time="1000"/>
       <COMMAND type="activateScene" scene="myScene"/>
    </SCRIPT>
    <SCENE name="myScene" background="scene.jpg">
      <ITEMIMPL item="Book" x=40 y=78/>
    </SCENE>
    </GAME>This is my test code... but I have read about the examples and know about nodes and stuff, but still don't know how to easily convert this to object structure. Script, for example, has Vector called commands, and commands are inner classes of script derived all from abstract class command. How do I perform the loading... saving is no problem since i can easily write
    Iterator i=commands.iterator();
    while (i.hasNext())
    ((Command) i.next()).outputXML(buffer);
    } or something like that... basicly that is pretty complicated too since I have to create xml writer for every command specially...
    I was thinking if i make a reader like this but I want your help too, or is there another way...
    Parse XML, test object encountered, if class is for example Script, use reflection to create new instance of script. Find the owner instance of this (Game) and perform a method called AddScript also via reflection, and add the script to game. I don't know... sound pretty "errorrious"...

  • How do you remove captions from photo books in iPhoto 9.5.1?

    I wanted to see what a photo book created in iPhoto '11 looks like with my own pics so I made one the simplest way possible: picked an event, chose a format, clicked "buy book." It arrived yesterday and it's gorgeous but I want the next ones to be even better. In the "Folio" layout every page has a default copyright notice. I don't need that. Every page has the photo's name, useful stuff like "DSC_1518." I don't need that either. Is there a way to remove the entries from every caption box all at once? If I can empty all of them at once I can easily put back the entries I actually want. I can manually empty them but that's 4 captions on every one of 96 pages. Clearing one and clicking "change everywhere" doesn't do it. I don't want to remove the boxes, just the default entries in all of them.
    Thanks

    If you use a theme that has layouts without text boxes or themes that do not have autoload of text the text will not print even though you get a warning before ordering.  Folio is the only theme that automatically puts in some text.  The others just have placecard text that does not print.
    You can test it by by proofing the book according to this Apple document: iPhoto, Aperture: Previewing an order in iPhoto or Aperture.
    These are two pages from the Picture Book theme of a 2 photo per page layout. One has text and the other doesn't.  The text you see is placecard text and will not display when printed.
    This is a screenshot of the pages in the PDF file:
    No text on the second page.

  • Lightroom 5.0 on Windows 7 - Photo Caption problem in Book Module

    Using Lightroom 5.0 on Windows 7, I have produced a 76 page book in the Book Module with multiple photos on most pages, but two photos were not showing their captions, and did not print same in a proof PDF print run. I had the photo captions in the Meta Data, but have subsequently entered the pertinent photo caption via Custom Text from the left control panel, and also directly into the photo caption print box without success. I have changed the photo size, without a successful outcome, but when I did an auto cell fill of the photo the caption appeared within the photo, but disappeared when sizing was reduced back. I have exhausted all help avenues at this stage.

    Thanks for your input and efforts to assist. I have resisted removing and replacing, as the 1966 passport photo has a lengthy (approx 60) adjustments showing in the history, as a result of its age. Hence I think that I will just have tolerate these somewhat minor, I suppose, aberrations and just send it off to Blurb as is, as restoring so many old photos to a more presentable print status has taken me 3 months as it is.
    I don't understand why this a problem. You are removing a page from the book and adding back again. You are not removing the photo from the catalog, therefore you would not loose you are adjustments. Books are just another way of rendering photos.

  • Captions/text in photo book layout

    I'm creating my first book and don't know how to add text boxes to my book? Do different layouts NOT have text/caption options?
    TIA! Jennifer

    Jake
    welcome to the Apple use discussion forums
    Yes - some themes have more text - some less - most themes have a page that is only text and several of them have two versions of eachpage - one with captions and one without
    Liz Castro's web page shows all layouts of each there for iPhoto '08 and is very helpful in planning your book - click here to take a look

  • Creating a photo book with captions

    I am using Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3 running on Windows. I have created a collection of photos that I want to have printed as an album. I want to maintain the captions and order that I have already set. My preference would be to do this on my desktop rather than uploading them to a service like Snapfish or Kodak Gallery (the upload process is nightmarish and it doesn't appear to maintain the captions). Any suggestions?
    Ideally I would like to find a templated tool that would allow me to import my collection with its captions. Then I would send it to Snapfish or Kodak Gallery or Lulu for printing. Maybe I've missed something, but all of those folks seem to want me to upload my photos and then template the book on their site, adding captions manually. This is nuts, particularly if I've already done the work to add captions in Photoshop Album.
    As a related question, is there some standard for tagging and captions for photos or does Photoshop Album use some proprietary method?

    I can see the caption when I upload the photo to Kodak Gallery, but it doesn't show up when I place it in the photo book. I have a question in to their support team but I still wonder if anyone has had any luck making photo books with the captions created in Photoshop Album Starter.
    And the bigger question is: what if I don't want to upload my photos? What if I'd rather make the book on my desktop? Is there any way to do that?

  • Is it REALLY not possible to add captions to a Photo Book?!

    Hi. I have spent the last several days compiling a book of my travels, and overall I'm happy with it except that I CANNOT figure out how to add captions to any of the photos if I haven't selected the ONE format (w/ "postcards", etc) that already leaves space for them. This is really frustrating, since I don't want every single page of my photo album to have the exact same "cutesy" setup, but as it is a gift for my parents I really would like to at least be able to add a few simple captions noting where the photos are from! Is this possible? If I'm gonna drop $40 on a photo book I want it to be the way I want it!!! Please answer whether it's what I want to hear or not! Thank you in advance!
    p.s. I don't think it's possible to change the format out of Travel for only selected pages...is it???

    Yes as posted

  • Will iphoto 6 allow more captions to be used in photo books?

    I have just discovered photo books and have iphoto 5. Unfortunately, very few of the templates allow captions to be inserted. I was wondering if upgrading to iphoto 6 would allow more options?
    Thanks,
    Jderden

    What pdf preset are you using? Try smallest file size rather than illustrator default.
    Save for web does not do PDF, so no multipage.

  • Captions in Travel Books? where?

    I'm preparing my first iPhoto Book, struggling with the limited documentation. So I bought David Pogue's book iPhoto 6: The Missing Manual. He assures me that, if I choose the "travel" theme, I will have the option of adding captions to my pages. They are even pictured in the example, both at Apple's web site and in Pogue's book.
    OK, I give up. Where is the option to add a caption to my pages in my book?

    Robert:
    In the 2 photos per page layout there are several Page Designs that have text boxes next to photos. Click on the Page Design menu and go way down. The 4/page layout has a text box as the default.
    Do you Twango?
    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

  • Captions in my iPhoto book

    My wife has spent hours preparing an album to create a book for our eldest daughter's 40th birthday. She would really like to add captions, but wants to use one of the funkier themes such as crayon. We can't see any obvious ways to add text. Any ideas

    Check out Liz Castro's web page showing the iPhoto '08 book cover and inside page options - http://www.lizcastro.com/iphotobookthemes/pmwiki.php?n=Main.Crayon - it looks to me like the following backgrounds have text captions on them:
    the all text page
    1 photo layouts 3 & 5
    2 photos layouts 2, 4 & 5
    3 photos layouts 2 & 4
    4 photos layouts 2 & 4
    6 photos layouts 2 & 4
    I think you will find Liz's web page valuable in planning this and future books

  • Problems with Captions in IPhoto Book

    I received the IPhoto book I ordered yesterday. Six pages contain mistakes in the photo captions. In all instances the mistakes are misprints of dates (ex (048 instead of 1948). I have looked through the discussion threads and haven't come across anyone who has had this problem. I've emailed Apple Support but wonder if anyone else has had this problem. How can it be solved?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Contact Apple via their iPhoto customer service page, http://www.apple.com/support/iphoto/customerservice/orderbooks/. You should be able to get a refund. Others have reported success in doing so with incorrect books. Good luck.
