Captions won't allow text editing

I've recorded a movie, but all of the text captions recorded
without text in them, it just says "type caption text here". When I
double click on the caption to add the text, the font size in the
caption is a weird number. When I try to change the font size, it
looks like I can, but then it just switches back again. When I save
my changes, the text in the caption doesn't change.
Does anyone know what would cause this? I've never had it
happen before, and I don't think I'm doing anything differently.
It's very strange.

thank you for your reply. Yes, I have created many other
captivate projects without this problem. But now I am working on a
different computer.
I've double checked everything you've suggested, it's saved
on a local drive, and it's 32 slides long. The problem happens with
all movies, regardless of recording mode, or recording options. Any
captions that are automatically recorded have this problem, as well
as any I try to insert. Oddly, though, text animations work fine --
it's just the captions.
To do a bit more troubleshooting, I've saved this file to a
disk and had someone else open it on their computer. On that
computer, the captions open up having text "mqz_cap_rtf" in them. I
can change the text here to be what I want it to be, and it works
fine.
So it's definately a problem just with the 1 computer. I've
uninstalled Captivate and re-installed it, and the same thing
happens. I guess a workaround is for me to use a different
computer, but of course that's a pretty big fuss. If there is
anything else you know of that might be able to fix this, that
would be lovely.

Can you convert a pdf that won't allow text to be highlighted so you can do highlighting?

I have Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Standard. My monthly bank statement comes as a pdf. I would like to be able to highlight parts of it such as check and deposit amounts but, although the highlighting toolbar is available, when I select a tool such as the cross-out text tool and try to highlight an item, nothing happens. Is there a way to convert this apparently uneditable type of pdf to one that will allow highlighting?

You need an app that will perform that function. There are many apps that will do this, the most powerful being Adobe's Acrobat Pro, it's not inexpensive however that is what it is designed to do. If you want to just do some light annotations Preview (which you already have) will do this, however if you want to edit every aspect Acrobat Pro is tough to beat.
I would recommend using the Mac App store to begin shopping, you will probably find some middle ground app that will do what you need.

Illustrator CS3 Won't Allow Text Fill Color Changes

Hi All,
I have a copy of Illustrator CS3 and this weekend I was working on a new logo design. For some reason, Illustrator would not accept changes to the text fill color. It was stuck on black. I am stuck after searching for solutions online and working with the Appearance panel.
Has anyone else had this happen? Is there a fix?

Try changing the fill using the Appearance panel. With the Appearance panel you can stack fills and strokes, which often results in the text fill (available when text is highlighted) hidden behind a higher object.level fill.

I mistyped a user name to enter a website. I want to correct the error but Firefox saved the incorrect user name and won't let me edit it.

When I signed into a user-name-required website, I made a mistake, but didn't realize my mistake until after I asked firefox to save the sign-in information. Now, all I want to do is edit the username sign-in, but firefox won't allow the edit. What do I do?

I'm a complete technophobe so the answer to this could be quite obvious. I had to create a text using photoshop because of the inside of the text... i.e using a lobster font and it was pink glitter inside it so to give a girly effect.. It's for a college asignment.
I have to use illustrator CS6 to put that text on a b/ground I already made in Illustrator but the .psd doc won't let me edit it in illustrator, it's almost like a PDF. Help!
I hope it's not too confusing to understand, thanks in advance.

You may, in front of the overall background (which you may lock or hide):
1) Create a background with the appearance you wish to apply to the letters, such as a solid cpolour, a gradient or other clolour transition, and some pink glitter in front of it, you may Group all this for convenience; and you may use raster artwork (maybe from Photoshop) if you like;
2) With the Type Tool create the live Type on top of 1), you may move and size it to fit (roughly);
3) Select 1) and 2) and Object>Clipping Mask>Make; 2) will become the (invisible) Clipping Path showing the parts of 1) that are behind it and hide the rest.
As mentioned, you may Direct Select 1) or 2) and edit or move them about relative to the background and each other.

Site with editable regions won't allow editing

Hi, I have set up multple sites for InContext Editing. All works fine except this last one that won't allow editing online. When clicking "Edit Page" I get a message saying "There are no editable regions." I have checked and double checked the pages and the regions are there. I've reflowed the content into all pages (template) but I still get the same message in InContext.
Please help me figure out what's wrong and how I can get the pages editable.

If your intention is to upload the changed file(s) to the server then you need to use an external editor.<br />

Boris 3D text editing window won't open without deleting FCP preferences

So, in my FCP7 projects, the Boris 3D text editing window won't open without deleting FCP preferences first. I've tried new projects, old projects, open all new windows on top settings. Once I delete the preferences, viola, opens right up. I can rebuild my preferences and after just a few days it won't open again... without preference delete.
I'm on a Macbook Pro 17'" i7 and do most of my editing on a 27" Apple Cinema Display. This is the only reason I could come up with. However I did some editing from the Macbook's screen and after 1 day, the Boris 3D editing window again refused to open. I have no idea. Is this is a known bug, etc.?

With Final Cut not running, trash the Boris Title 3D preference file.

Also, you could have a corrupt or duplicate font file. Open FontBook and check it out.

Lightroom won't allow me to edit the middle square of my image

For some reason lightroom currently won't allow me to make any changes to the middle square of my image but I can do anything i want to any other parts of the image. Any ideas what is going on?

Assuming here that the message goes on to say "contact your technical support group".
(1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):

(2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
(3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
(4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
(5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

Iba allow others to make text edits. What workflow are you guys using to allow others to make text edits once the iBook has been layed out and formatted? Is it too late? Do I need to export txt then reimport the editted text and reformat it all again?

Thanks for the reply. The project I am working on is a test project for a customer. They could potentially want a number of their educational subjects presented as an interactive text book. The intent of this first project with them is to establish a logical workflow that will allow us to efficiently estimate costs and allow for review throughout the design process. Having worked with customers on creative projects in the past I can anticipate that they will want a number of changes made once they see a working version of the interactive text book.
It is a grim reality that no project can be fully edited and planned prior to working on it and I know revisions and changes are always made once the customer can see their product. It is ok with me if there is no easy way to pass the text back and forth from the customer and me without having to reformat everything but I just want to know that is the way it works in order to provide a realistic time estimate for the project.
My hope was I would be able to export the formatted text, allow them to make edits and then reimport that formatted text. The style sheets I am using are from one of the iBooks Author templates.
Do you know if there is a way to use (or export ) this style sheet so it can be used in a Pages Document?
Or, would the best option be to have the customer install iBooks Author? This would require the customer to have a mac and the software so it doesn't work for all cases.
Another idea I was considering would be to export the book as a PDF and have the customer add markup and notes to the PDF.
All of these options do not seem too great to me.
I am open to any ideas.
