Captivate 3 ACE test

Hello All,
The ACE exam for Captivate 3 is finally available, currently
through Prometric. According to Adobe folks, Pearson Vue will also
offer it, but it wasn't in their list this morning. If anyone has
any ACE tips or knowledge of a study guide, any info would be
greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
San Dee

Has anyone taken this test? I've taken it twice and got just under the minimum. I can't pinpoint which ones I am getting wrong, so I am looking for a good study guide. Any suggestions?

  • Captivate 4 ACE Prep Materials

    Hi Folks,
I am trying to find quality prep materials for the Captivate ACE test.  There are numerous outlets for Captivate 3 but only 2 for Captivate 4 and they appear to be brain dumps rather than a quality prep package.  Do you think that the Captivate 3 material is close enough to Captivate 4?  I really like the package available from Ucertify (they claim to be brain dump free), but they only have Captivate 3 available.
    Thank you

I passed the Captivate 4 ACE last night. I found the best help was to study the Topic Areas and Objectives on the Adobe Product Proficiency Exam Bulletin and run a blank CP4 project while going through each objective.

  • Captivate 4 ACE exam

Does anyone know if the ACE exam is available for Cap4?  I've checked the list according to Adobe's website but am only able to find it for version 3.
    Thanks,
    randy

    Hello,
I know this thread is quite old, but I came across some comments about Captivate 4 that I think you could get a workaround from if you wanted to.
In regards to audio quality, I experience the tinny, hollow audio quality you speak of. There is a work around for it. Unfortunately it requires you use Captivate 3.
Import your audio files into Captviate 3.
    Save the file
Open the Captivate 4 file you want to put the audio in
Go to File - Import - External Library (You must be in Edit View)
Import the CP3 file you created with the audio in it.
Drag the audio files from the imported library to your Captivate 4 library.
    Problem solved.

  • When will ACE exam for Captivate 4 be available?

Has anyone heard anything from Adobe about when the Captivate 4 ACE exam will be available?

I had heard there would be one, but I am not certain about timing. I'll will try to find out something for you.
When available, they will be listed here. http://partners.adobe.com/public/ace/main.html
I will make sure we put an announcement on this Forum when that happens.

  • Pre Tests in Captivate

In one of the Developer Forum articles it mentions the
ability to use pre-tests in Captivate.
There is no documentation in HELP or in Knowledgebase on how
to assign questions to a pre-test as opposed to a post-test, to
give full credit for & ability to by-pass content w/ all
    correct answers in a pre-test.
And... if any incorrect pre-test answers, to send learner
through content & post-test, but in this case, only score user
on answers in post-test, not all questions in course... Any
    suggestions? Thanks....

You may be thinking that pre-testing is an actual feature of
the product, which is not the case.
Captivate only knows tests... its up to you to design them to
be useful as a pre-test or a post-test. How you do this is
determined by the delivery environment your content will be
accessed from and an understanding of Captivate's reporting
    abilities.
For example, you mentioned that you want to "give full
credit", which implies that you're doing centralized reporting in
some way. The type of reporting you're doing will determine how you
    create your course.
If you're using an LMS via the SCORM standard, all navigation
and pass/fail logic must reside in the LMS, so you just build your
pre-test and make the LMS use the score from that determine whether
the user passes the overall course. If they don't pass, make them
take everything, if they do pass, give them credit for the whole
    thing.
If your particular LMS doesn't let you do that and you can't
find a way to trick the LMS into doing what you want (say, by
assigning much higher score values to the questions in the pre-test
to artificially give the user a score high enough to pass the
entire course), then you may be out of luck. That's the nature of
SCORM, and has nothing to do with Captivate.
Bottom line, there's no documentation because Captivate is
not intended to fit into any particular system or scheme. It's
merely a tool that lets you create building blocks that you can
(hopefully) slot into a separate solution using a "standards-based"
interface, such as AICC/SCORM, or one of the other options listed
    in the Quiz Manager.
The reality is that each deployment environment, especially
the "standards-based" ones, have their own quirks and deployment
requirements, so how you make Captivate work in your particular
environment is unfortunately left up to you. That's just the nature
    of the game.

  • Captivate Certification does not work for at least another week

    Hi there,
yesterday I was supposed to take my class for the Adobe Captivate Certification (ACE Exam).
But Pearson Vue did not manage to send the test over two hours.
    Last comment was:
We will look into this, but the next test will not be within the next week.
I had to laugh a bit, because I was trying to take an eLearning exam about eLearning creation software and the eLearning system did not work.
So - for everyone who scheduled a class, you probably want to check back, if it is working.
Pearson VUE did not contact me until now, so I cannot tell you any more.
    Best TD

    TD,
Is it Captivate 5 certification or is it still the old Captivate 3 certification that they offer?

  • DreamWeaver CS3 Ace Prep Materials

Hello, New to this site forum. I Have Adobe creative suites
CS3 (not Master collection). I have been working allot with
Dreamweaver. I have been using Classroom in a book as my primary
source for learning. It has lots of typos in the book. Things like
asking you to click on something in the lessons files that doesn't
match whats in the book.As well as many other situations. All in
all its pretty good as it has made be pretty familar with how the
basics of the program works. However the lady that wrote the PS CS3
Classroom in a book would of done a much better job. The DW Class
in a book is like reading a phone book!
I want to learn as much as I can sio I am ready to take the
ACE test. At $150.00 a pop failing isn't an option for me. I cannot
find any syllabus or pool of possible questions and answers, ect.
There are only 2 places that are certified thru Adobe to give the
tests, good thing they have plenty of testing locations.
If there is anyone that has a DW CS3 prep materials they no
longer need, or know of a place that they are posted on the WEB. I
would greatly appreciate your help. a Little history about me, I am
not a student, I am not a business. I am just a 38 year old man
trying my best to live my dream of opening my own graphic design
studio. I love Adobe products and have made great sacrifice to
purchase these programs. I want to know all I can and offer

Are any of you Ace certified? Do you see a real benefit? I
would think there is. Thanks Tom

  • Capivate 3 project will not open in Captivate 4

I have seen 2 items in this forum with simular problems. But both solutions did not help me.
Today I have installed Captivate 4 for testing. I'm testing with one project that consists of 5 CP3 files. One main and 4 sub (cp) files.
One has Quizing activated the rest not. At first I was able to open and convert the main file (Quizing activated) but than the second file did also ask for an other name and after entering the new name, nothing happens. Later I tried the first CP3 file again but it would not open anymore. The saved converted file I can still open in CP4.
I have updated CP4 and CP3 but no success on opening the files in CP4. What can I do to solve this problem? After this test I have many more to convert.

    Hi there
I'd be happy to try and convert one of the problem files for you if you like. This would provide the following information.
    * If I were successful, it would point to a possible issue on your end that you may be able to resolve.
    * If I were NOT successful, it would point to either an issue with this particular file, or to the process generically
Your call on what happens next. If you are interested, you could use Acrobat.com or YouSendIt.com to transfer the files. All you would need is my E-Mail address, which is rstone75 (at) kc (dot) rr (dot) com

  • Issues adding swfs created in Flex to a Captivate project

The company I work with, ePath Learning Inc. has an online authoring tool called eActivity that we use to publish different eLearning templates. This online tool is built completely in Flex and uses the Flex compiler to ouput a swf file that can be used in many different products and online courses. Because it's an AS3/Flex created swf, we've had to wait for Captivate 4 to be released to support the generated swf file, so now we are testing it's compatibility and have run into some issues. It appears that swf files from our online authoring tool do not work correctly in Captivate. Further testing resulted in any swf published using Flex do not work properly in Captivate. Attempts at adding a swf file complied with Flex result in a variety of different errors as well as a performance issue causing the control bar as well as all other aspects of the Captivate project to work incorrectly.
I've attached 2 sample swf files, 1 built using our online authoring tool and 1 using Flex Builder 3. When added to a new blank project in Captivate 4 using AS3 settings we have the errors as explained above.

    Hi there
I just uploaded a small video to Jing. See if it helps you resolve the issue.

  • Captivate progress bar controlled by Flash Actionscript

    Hi,
I am currently working on a project where I need to load multiple captivate files (topics) into a Flash interface to create an e-Learning module. I have greated a progress indicator within the Flash interface which indicates how far through the module you are. This is working correctly, however I would like to display more information.
Currently it only moves the progress indicator when a particular topic (captivate swf) has been viewed (if I have viewed 4 topics out of 10 it would show 40%). What I would like to do is also make the progress indicator move when the user moves to a new slide within the captivate movie (if I have viewed 4 out of 10 topics, and viewed 5 out of 10 slides of the current captivate movie it would show 45%).
As I mentioned the multiple captivate movies are being loaded into Flash, and that is where the progress indicator is currently sitting (controlled by Actionscript). Is there any way of Flash finding out when the user has navigated to a new slide within Captivate? I have noticed in the output that every time a new slide is viewed the following code is displayed to the output:
    Branching::script:;;
    deepak branching : scripteval:[object Object];
Does anyone know what this action/function that Captivate is calling is? Can I call a listener function testing for this action/function?
    Kind regards,
    Duncan

    Hi Duncan,
The "deepack" output is a trace function the developer put inside of Captivate 4 for testing purposes I believe and doesn't serve any other purpose. There is a Captivate 4 system variable available from the Project>Actions>Variables menu that will track the current frame(slide) within Captivate. If you load the published captivate .swf file into Flash, you can access this variable by targeting the instance of the loaded .swf movie and then the name of the variable.

  • FrameMaker 6.0 A.C.E. Test

I've seen quite a few questions about the FrameMaker 6.0 A.C.E. test, but nobody seems willing to really talk about it. I have seen no prohibition from outlining the scope of this test, so here are my experiences.
    Sean
    [email protected]

(This is copied from a post I made to the regular FrameMaker forum.)
It cost me 150 USD to take the FrameMaker 6.0 ACE test. To prepare, I went through each example in CIB (sorry, FrameMaker Classroom in a Book), and also read through each chapter in the UG (user guide). I've been using FrameMaker on and off since 1991.
I know of no sample test.
    Go here: http://partners.adobe.com/asn/training/acehowto.html.
Get the exam bulletin here: http://partners.adobe.com/asn/training/acehowto.html#164209.
When I went to take the test, all I knew was that I had 90 minutes available in which to complete the test. I did not know the format of the test. I had asked, but nobody answered. I thought perhaps there was an NDA about the test, but I reviewed my documentation and can find no such gag, so here goes:
    1. All the questions in the test were appropriate.
    2. The test assumes no skills other than your use of FrameMaker. Thus, you really have to be aware of what options are where, and what the various menu items and switches in dialog boxes do. Pay *particular* attention to the Format and Special menus. Also, consider your workflow, from setting up books and templates, through importing graphics, color, and manipulating text. Really, most aspects of using FrameMaker were touched upon.
    3. I finished the test in about 20 minutes. I found the test to be underwhelming, but a lot of that is because I have a tonne of stick time on the product. I certainly did improve my score by reviewing CIB and the UG; though, I could have passed without doing so. (It was my $150, so reading the books and doing the examples was a good idea that I do not regret.)
    4. For the most part, the test was multiple choice. At the time, I did not know it would be. I rather wish more info were available about the test.
I don't remember how many questions there were on the test, certainly less than 100, maybe about 70? I took the test on a computer. You cannot use reference materials. You can review all your answers before submitting them for scoring.
    5. The test was scored and I got my results immediately after I took it. I did not expect that, either. I thought I would have to wait 4-6 weeks.
    6. The A.C.E. Certification arrived promptly, within the advertised timeframe, from Adobe. It took about three weeks to get to me.
    7. When I took the test, I was prepared to throw away the first $150 in failing the test, just to get an idea what the test was like so I could pass it the second time.
    8. There seem to be a few more resources for those looking to become a Photoshop A.C.E. than there are for FrameMaker. However, given the relative popularity of each tool, go figure.
    Cheers,
    Sean

  • Centring of captivate swf working (.....and then not working!)

    Hi
this is a mystery to me but maybe someone will have an answer
I have 5 slides been woking on them all weekend. I created a html container that centers the published swf  from captivate 5 perfectly
Testing locally all works fine, uploading the same files to my web server and its all pushed to the left and not in the centered at all
After some head scratching I decided to go through the slides deleting one at a time and uploading to server and testing to see if it was an errant slide and after a while I found it.  It was Slide two and when removed, allows the reaming four slides to be centerd in the html. Put slide two back in publish upload to web server it back and it goes to the left again. Testing locally and its centered.!
I have checked slide  two and there is nothing odd about it at all, perfectly normal slide with some advanced actions
Has anyone got any ideas, has this happened before to anyone,
    thanks in advance
    KBN

    Hi there
That is really an odd situation. In my understanding of things, there should be nothing about a SWF that determines whether centering would work or not. Makes me wonder if the simple existence of the slide is really more a red herring than anything else.

  • Captivate 3 Template Caption Cache Issue - Fixed in 4?

Well the title pretty much sums it up. We have learned that regardless of the caption preferences set and saved in a Captivate 3 project template, caption setting are overridden by the last set of caption preferences that were used. For example, I set the correct caption to be adobe green in my template, then saved and closed my template. Next I open a completely new project, use adobe blue for my correct answer caption, save and close that project as a seperate file. From here, if I open up my template and either work straight from it or import any other slides (tried it both ways), the correct answer caption will be adobe blue.
So here is the question, is this fixed in Captivate 4?
    Thanks

    Hi again
I believe in this case you are simply having a misunderstanding of how templates are intended to work.
What you want may be achieved by using a new feature in Captivate 4 called a Design Template. The fact we see Adobe added Design Templates probably attests to the fact that some users such as yourself found and expressed a desire as you have here. To easily influence content after it has been created.
I'd suggest downloading an evaluation version of Captivate 4 and testing to see if it meets your needs. If so, Bob's your uncle!

  • Captivate 2 + Accessibility + 508

    Good day all,
I have a question about something in Captivate 2 (was also a
feature in Captivate 1). If you go to the slide properties screen,
there is a button that you can select Accessibility. Once you click
on this, you have the option to insert the text from the slide. It
says at the top that this can be used for users with disabilities
and need the use of a screen reader. My question is, once you've
inserted the text, and check the 508 compliant box on publish, what
    exactly has become 508 compliant?
If I try to use a screen reader like Jaws while the
simulation is playing, the screen reader doesn't read the slides.
Should it? I'm a bit confused on how Captivate is exactly 508
    compliant!

    Hi smejus57
Here is some information I captured at one point in time. It
was put forth by a former Macromedia employee by the name of Dave
    Mozealous.
Captivate was only tested with JAWS version 6.1 or later and
Window Eyes 5.0. So make sure the customer is using JAWS 6.1 or
    later or Window Eyes 5.0.
Try the following to resolve the issue:
    Start JAWS
    Open the .htm file
    Press Ctrl (shut up jaws)
    Press Ctrl+Home (top of page)
Press Arrow down once, listen, then Arrow down again. When on
    button, press Enter.
After each slide loads, Press Ctrl+Home before reading.
*NOTE: Make sure you are using the ENTER button to continue,
or whatever key is assigned to the button. Using the Mouse button
makes JAWS incorrectly interpret the accessibility text.
    Hopefully this was useful... Rick

  • Installation difficulty, Captivate 3

Problem: When attempting to install Captivate 3 from CD (or
dowloaded files), I am getting a message during the installation
that "The Systems Administrator has set policies to prevent this
    installation."
Conditions: I am the "systems administrator." Laptop not
connected to any network running Windows XP (Home) with SP3
installed. All virus and spyware is current. Previous versions of
Captivate (ver 1, ver 2, and demo ver 3 were installed and then
successfully removed). This machine was used in the Captivate 2
beta test (code name=MonaLisa). MonaLisa could not be uninstalled
for some reason and so I removed the files manually (and this is
    probably where the problem lies).
Attempted solutions: In trying to fix this, I have removed
all Captivate files from the registry, read and tried all of the
Adobe Knowledge Base fixes and have called Adobe help twice (with
no results). I can install other Adobe products and have and can
install other non-Adobe apps as well without any problem.
I think there must be some registry key left over from
MonaLisa that is preventing this but that is just a guess. Any help
or ideas will be greatly appreciated.

How frustrating. Unfortunately, this is not Adobe Support,
and I doubt you will find help here - though we can hope someone
has had the same problem and can offer a solution. I would contact
Adobe Customer Care unless you are installing *Trial* software, in
which case no support is available.
