Captivate 3 and Flash menu
I have .swf files with closed captioning that are
incorporated into a flash mx menu. The closed captioning text does
not display (the bar displays) when played in the flash menu
(neither do the tool tips on the nav bar).
Any ideas/suggestions?
You said...
quote:
The much bigger obstacle is that when I export a Captivate
project that incorporates full-motion recordings with static slides
displaying a text caption to Flash and then to .mov, I lose the
full-motion recordings: they are replaced with a blank white or
black screen (whatever the background color is set to be). The
audio is gone too. I don't know what is causing this, but I would
really appreciate any help you could lend me concerning this.
I don't have a solution -
maybe someone else here does - but would offer an
observation ...
Keeping in mind that I avoid monkeying with my own Captivate
projects in Flash because of the various inconsistencie, some of
which you have seen ... I am hopeful that the Captivate team does
something to address the handling of full-motion slides. We all
know that they are created as AVI clips which are then converted to
SWF as separate slides, so it seems logical to me that there must
be a way to offer the source, that is, the AVI or a FLA either of
which would then be handled separately inside Flash (for those who
like to do their tinkering in that environment).
In the meantime, you might try to change the timing of the
(errant) full-motion slide a bit. Like, perhaps add or subtract a
tenth of a second to it or otherwise change its properties so that
the import doesn't end up as a blank. Just thinking out loud in
trouble-shooting mode... come to think of it, when the project is
published to SWF/HTM, each full-motion slide is published as a
separate SWF file. Would it be possible to publish the project,
then try to bring that SWF back into Captivate as an animation?
It's late here and I'm getting into fuzzy-thinking time, so if that
doesn't make sense, it wouldn't surprise me.

Hi,
I have set up a navigation bar in flash rather than using the
in built captivate navigation bar, and then I load my captivate
into the flash movie. For the next button I am using
rdcmndNextSlide = 1; and for pause rdcmndPause = 1; etc.
I want to have a button that will open the menu in captivate,
does anyone know if there is a command I can use in Flash to
achieve this? The only menu related command in captivate I can see
is cpLockTOC which locks the menu into position, but not one to
open or close it.
Thanks in advance for any help.Unfortunately there is no command / variable to open or close
the TOC menu. You are stuck with the way it was programmed by
Adobe.
I recommend that you suggest the feature to Adobe using this
form:
http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform&product=5
The TOC and lack of customization possibilities have been
discussed alot amongst Captivate users so the more people that
report these issues to Adobe - the better the chance of getting a
fix ;o) -
My animated gif keeps pausing in captivate and flash
Hi guys, thanks for your help.
I made an animated gif in Photoshop CS4 and inserted it as an animation into captivate 6. The animation works (I played it several times by opening it with internet explorer and safari). But when I open it in Captivate the animation goes black for a split second-several times, before it reappears-several times. It gives it almost a "reloading" or pause look when I play it. The same in flash, but in Adobe Flash CS4 Professional the timeline shows black dots once in a while, as you can see in the screen shot below.
See those black dots? I will insert a picture of what happens, when the player lands on one of those black dots:
It's the same animation, but only shows a little. Like I said, it plays fine when I open it with an internet browser, it plays fine when I play it in photoshop, but it just won't work with flash or captivate.
Any thoughts? Thanks so much!! I really appreciate your help guys!
NatNo problem. Building a simple animation in Flash isn't that bad. You could save each "frame" as an image from PhotoShop and then import these into Flash and place one frame at the time on a keyframe in the flash timeline (press F6 to insert a keyframe).
If you want your animation to loop then you don't have to do anything as this is the default behavior. If you want it to stop at the last frame you insert a command in ActionScript to stop it. Select the last keyframe and hit F9 and type stop() in the ActionScript window.
Good luck!

Swfs don't work (Captivate and Flash AS2)
I inserted a .swf from a published Captivate 5 file into my PowerPoint. When I preview the ppt, it plays fine, but when I publish it to Presenter it no longer works. It's just a blank white screen. Any suggestions?
Additionally, I created a very simple Flash file with basic button functionality and brought it into PowerPoint. It shows up but none of the buttons work, and I have no _global or _root code in it. Any help would be great.Unfortunately guys, I wish I had better news, but there's a reason why Captivate 5 content will not run in Adobe Presenter.
By default, Cp 5 now publishes using Actionscript 3 and that's the culprit!
Presenter is still using Actionscript 2.0 so the problem here is that the governing codebase in P7 doesn't recognize, and therefore cannot run/execute/understand the codebase coming from Captivate 5.
There is, however, a workaround: rather than inserting the Cp swf into PPT (for Presenter output), you can link to the Captivate content as externally accessible content. An obvious drawback here is that you'll have another browser window to contend with, but there are a few upsides to this approach as well; namely, if your Captivate content ever needs to be updated, you can do that without ever having to republish your Presenter course. I've utilized this approach a number of times, and although there's some upfront homework to deal with, it's been a time-saver in the long term.
Now, as for the Flash file/buttons you mentioned....I have a quick question for you: are you coding your Flash piece using Actionscript 3? Again, as weith Captivate 5, anything with AS 3.0 in it will be completely ignored in Presenter 7. Also be sure that when you set up a Flash file (and definitely before you publish/export your flash content) you'll need to set the Publish Settings for Actionscript 2.0.
Until Adobe updates Presenter, this is going to be something we all will need to deal with.

Perhaps the following TechNote will help. I know it
references Flash MX 2004, but I can't imagine things are that
different between the two. I would think the same issues apply with
either.

New development in Flash Captivate and Content Management
My compay currently uses Serena Collage for Content
Management along with Macromedia Studio MX 2004 for web site
development. We have an upcoming e-learning project that we are
considering developing in Captivate and Flash. We are mandated that
all development be Section 508 compliant and e-learning must be
SCORM compliant as well.
Can I continue to use Collage to manage content developed
from Captivate and Flash or will I have to use a different product?
According to documentation Captivate SCORM and 508 compliant and is
Flash 508 compliant is this correct?
Please advise.I am not familiar with Collage or its requirements, but Flash
MX 2004 is 508 compliant, I have had to make partial and full
compliant courses with it. That being said, it took us a decent
amount of time and effort. -
Captivate to Flash CS3? Just a dream?
Based on the results in this forum, I take it there is now
way to import Captivate 3 files into Flash CS3 even though it is a
clear menu option on both Captivate and Flash CS3...... How can a
company make the claim, and then totally refuse to fix it?Hi there FacilityDude
Captivate 3 does export to Flash 8 or Flash CS3.

Next and Previous slide from Flash Menu
We are currently tasked with updating SAP training that was
created with OnDemand software. The current simulations have a
Javascript menu on each screen which provides various functions
including moving from current slide to next or previous slides.
When the existing movie is played and captured, we lose the
javascript menu functionality.
I have created a Flash Menu and have imported it to the newly
captured Captivate movie. All links on the menu work except Next
Slide and Previous slide.
The script I use for the button for the Next slide is as
follows:
this.next_btn.onRelease =function(){
this._parent._parent..nextFrame();
Also I have tried substituting for nextFrame "play" and for
the target path "_root" for the first "_parent."
The variables "rdcmndNextFrame" and "rdcmndPrevious" do not
work unless you are using a playback bar, which detracts from the
simulation.
Has anyone ever created this type of functionality? It seems
that it would be straight forward. It is most likely a target path
issue. The captivate movie is the container for the flash menu. To
access the captivate movie timeline and move to the next or
previous slide is what I really need.
Help!I resolved the issue by selecting to use a playback bar and
then in the Flash file setting the visibility of the playback bar
to "0". -

Flash menu not appearing in Captivate 4
Gentlefolk;
I am evaluating the Captivate 4 trial version and ran into a problem.
I cobbled together a quickie menu in Flash which works fine in C4.
However, seeking a more elegent solution, I created another menu using a Flash menu generator (Antssoft) which works fine in a browswer and in a Flash player, but does NOT appear in C4. I see a Flash bounding box on the page, but when viewed in browser mode or by a standard preview, there is just a blank page.
I have tried variations on my theme with the menu: changing the filename to .flv so it could be imported as a Flash object, I have used the original .swf extenstion and imported as an animation, but all with the same results.
Suggestions? Is Captivate a beast in which one needs to build any type of menu within a Captivate project itself, and it really doesn't like external menus?
Seems odd..but possible....
Thx!
DonWhat do you mean cobbled together a quickie flash menu?
Was it something you actually built in flash to control the captivate swf, such as an animation you placed on the stage or a widget object you built?
Yes...Captivate is a beast, well at first. There are only so many variables/functions you are allowed to play around with, although with some more digging you may be able to find some more in the class files for captivate.
I am not sure if you are stil in need of help with this or not, let me know.

Please Help SL - Everything 'quits unexpectedly' and top menu bar flashing
Please Help. Snow Leopard - Everything 'quits unexpectedly' and top menu bar flashing.
Basically, I have been using snow leopard for about 1-2 weeks now without any problems, apart from the strange trackpad expose glitch, but I can live with that. But a new problem has arisen that I CANNOT live with. Basically I plugged in my MiniDisplay > VGA adaptor and a Wacom internet tablet for the first time. And when it booted up rather than just the usual spinning gear, their was a progress bar as-well. Then it booted into Safe Mode.?
Everything was fine in safe mode apart from spotlight didn't work properly so I rebooted and this time it loaded normally. EXCEPT about 5 minutes after I logged on the top menu bar started to flash on and off about ever 1-2 seconds and virtually every single application would quit unexpectedly before even loading. I haven't really looked into it apart from a quick search on google which doesn't seem to bring up anything similar, but atm I am having to use my bootcamp partition with windows installed (shock horror :D) just so I can browse the internet.
Additional details -
I have tried resetting PRAM + NVRAM with no joy
While logging on (before it crashes), menu items (e.g. Airport, Battery Indicator, Facebook Notifier) all load up on the far right BEFORE the clock, which never happened before the problem, don't know if this will help isolate the problem, but its worth mentioning..
Don't really want to go down the fresh install route if possible, as I did this with leopard about 2 months before Snow Leopard was releasedI noticed it some weeks after installing Snow Leopard, and didn't think much about it since I have a Wacom mouse, and the Wacom driver often has some little peculiarities at startup with the Mac OS--sometimes everything is perfectly ordinary, there will be an OS update and a little oddness shows up, the driver eventually gets updated and the oddness disappears until some other OS update, and so on. I just figured that was what it was until my brother asked about the missing the menu bar after startup, which reappears with a click. He doesn't use a Wacom mouse, but he does have some other 3rd party mouse. I don't know whether 3rd party mouse drivers are at fault or not. But it is not a problem with the SystemUIServer.....the entire menu bar is missing, not just a goof-up on the Spotlight end, where SystemUIServer is in charge of things. Since simply clicking the mouse brings the menu bar up I've never even bothered to check the logs to see if anything is noted there.

Installed latest sec update and have flashing menu bar - cannot login
I also just installed the latest security update running 10.3.9 with a original 1ghz 17" powerbook.
Trying to boot afterwards I end up with a flashing menu bar and no disk icon on the desktop - obviously I can't login (set to single user)
Trying to repair permissions with a CD boot results in an "internal error" with the disk utility. Disk repair reports no problems. The program then cannot continue, and I have to hold the power button to get it to shut down.
Any ideas???
This is the LAST time I use the auto update!!!

Hello Group:
I built a menu using Pop-Menu Magic and right below it will
be a small flash movie. However, the drop downs disappear behind
the flash menu. I know I can change the Z-Index, but I tried a few
different configs and can't get the menu above. Any quick
suggestions on the Z-index settings? Or do I have to do something
different with the Flash movie export?
Thanks for the help!Could work although it's not very effective in Safari.

Fireworks pop up menu and flash
hi,
I want to have a page layout like adobe.com. Fireworks Pop up
menu on top and flash swf file beneth it, but my Fireworks css pop
up menu is hidden by flash swf file embeded when I bring it all
together in Dreamweaver.
I guess this is because embeded files superceed the css
z-indexing but how do I overcome this isue. As I can see it can be
done at adobe.com.All Active content on a page will always rise to the top, so
to speak,
including Flash, certain form elements, Java applets, and
Active X controls.
This means that each of these will poke through layers. There
is not a good
cross-browser/platform reliable way to solve this issue, but
if you can be
confident in your visitors using IE 5+ or NN6+, then you can
use the Flash
wmode parameter.
