Captivate 3 error on SumTotal LMS

Hi
Need help with following error users are receiving from a
Captivate 3 published simulation assessment on SumTotal LMS 7.2:
"A script in this movie is causing Adobe Flash Player 9 to run
slowly.If it continues to run your computer may become
unresponsive.Do you want to abort the script?"
The simulation assessment was compiled for version 7 of Flash
and was tracked with SCORM 1.2.

No answers here and I am wondering why. I have read past discussions about "Failure captions not displaying" and have noted all
the suggestions but still have not been able to get them working.
Click box is the uppermost (top) item in the timeline...and they are positioned after the slide voiceover so I would have thought there was sufficient time for them to become active.
Getting a little desperate about how to fix this.

Error While Uploading Captivate 6 Projects into Oracle LMS

Hello,
We have recently updated our Captivate software from Captivate 5 to Captivate 6. We are now experiencing issues when uploading our Captivate projects into our Oracle LMS. We are unable to upload newly developed courseware as a result, and have many critical learning initiatives with deadlines coming up within our organization.
We receive the following error when uploading published Captivate 6 files into our LMS:
Oracle.xml.parser.v2.XMLParseException: Element ‘appearance’ not expected.
The Log states: “The operation could not find a learning object with the external identifier: and external source: . A new learning object named How to insert an image into Microsoft Word with id 2824 has been created.
The language en-US is not compatible for the learning object named How to insert an image into Microsoft Word (id: 2824). The language will be set to American English.
The import process has failed: oracle.xml.parser.v2.XMLParseException: Element 'appearance' not expected.”
When contacting Oracle, they directed me to contact the vendor and inquire if they have resolved their UNIX issues and corrected the imsmanifest.xml creation piece of the tool. The Captivate 6 software on my PC is up to date with the newest patch installed, and I have tried publishing courses with different combinations of preferences and settings and none seem to resolve the issue.
Any insight as to what is causing this error or what can be done to correct it?

The error message makes me think the LMS is looking for an MS Word document included in your SCORM manifest file. Some LMSs are very strict about all files in the course needing to be listed in the imsmanifest.xml file.
Do you have a document in the package that the users need to read or that is linked in some way to your course content?

Captivate audio not pausing in LMS after bookmarking relaunch.

My course is in Captivate 5.5. I have audio attached to each slide and each slide has a "Next" text button to pause the slide at the end. We use SumTotal LMS. The course works fine if you launch and complete it in one sitting. If I close out and bookmark my place, then relaunch the course it will start where it left off and the slides pause at the "Next' button, however the audio keeps going. I have looked this up and down from both sides and cannot resolve this issue. Multiple users have had this issue. Any help would be appreciated as I need to get this course live.

Thank you very much! I added the audio slide by slide and I do have it at the start of each slide. I will try moving it a tenth or two out.

Can't get CP7 to refresh SumTotal LMS on exit or update status

Does anyone have the same experience in CP7 not being able to refresh SumTotal LMS on exit or update the course status? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

We've experienced this many times in the past and on our current LMS Learn.com, which is now Taleo.
The problem came when we started using the SCORM 2004 player which launches courses in a frameset. THe Previous 1.2 player launched courses in a popup window. We had to parse the url to exit 1.2 courses run in a 2004 player to the course menu.
The following function (mod_close()) is called after the terminate, we parse all of the user and course info so we can return them to the menu:

Adobe Captivate 6 Error when publishing

Help! I having trouble publishing a training that my employees can view. When they open the project they are getting the first image here that is essentially blank. I have attempted to reduce the size and save to different folders etc. but nothing seems to work.

Which version of Adobe Reader or Acrobat are they using? Adobe Reader XI
Can you publish this locally on your system (not to network drive directly), check force republish option also, and are you able to view it on your end? I can pull up the file from my computer that is saved in the same drive that the agents are attempting to pull up. But, I am not sure if it is viewing for me because I have it on my system.

How do I set the window size of a course in SumTotal (LMS)

I recently created an AICC course using Captivate 5.5 for a client using SumTotal as their LMS. When the client loads the course, the course launchs in a window that is smaller than the course itself; the user then has to adjust the window size to view the entire course. I have read on various posts that this cannot be controlled by myself through the .htm file settings, and that this has to be set within the LMS.
So my question is: Where and how does the client set the course window size within SumTotal? Does anyone know?!

No, edit the html files that come with Captivate. Either hand edit the
html file that is produced every time you publish, or locate the files
in the Captivate 5 directory and customise them to suite your needs.

Survey Monkey and SumTotal LMS

I'm attaching a survey on the last page of my wbt. I'm on Cp 5.0 and using a click box to hold the url to my survey. When I use this option, everything works fine with the exception of the reporting on the LMS (SumTotal). It reports "in progress."
When I use the New Window setting, I get my survey opened on a new tab AND in front of this new tab, I get a blank IE window. In order for learners to get to the survey, they have to close the blank window. The good news is, this reports accurately in my LMS.
Any suggestions on how to stop the extra window and get accurate reporting?

Could you please check the version of Captivate you are using to publish (Go to Help > About Adobe Captivate) ?
Also check the version of Scorm you are using , Try switching between Scorn 1.2 to Scorm 2004 or vice versa .
Also try renaming the published output try to keep it simple , means without spacing or any special character.

Captivate presentation not launching in LMS

I created an acknowledgement in Captivate using a PowerPoint and needed to publish it to an LMS (Plateau). When launching the finished product from the LMS, I am not seeing the presentation; all I am seeing is a grey screen. There is no error message and nothing is loading. Any idea what could be causing this?

Can you explain how and what you did upload? Is it working OK with Preview in Browser? If yes, be sure to upload all files created when publishing. If you published to SWF, normally you'll have at least a JS and a HTML-file. The last has to be launched. If you have reporting enabled you should have published as a SCO which results in a zipped folder with a lot of files in it, all required to enable reporting. I don't use Plateau but another LMS and I find the easiest way to upload another presentation is to have it zipped (there is a butotn in the publishing dialog box), and upload the package instructing the LMS to unzip and launch the HTML-file. But I'm not sure that this is possible with Plateau.

Captivate AS3 errors in firefox?

I'm having an issue with AS3 errors coming up on the first slide of my training/quiz in firefox. I am using captivate 4. This is what is showing up:
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.

The error will not show up in IE.
I have doublechecked my project preferences and it is indeed set to AS3. I have imported a small .swf to each slide with VERY basic animation just simple tweens. There is some actionscript on the imported .swfs such as stop or switch statements. Nothing that is rocket science and it validated in flash. These errors seem to be coming from the captivate program itself. I have to integrate this training into an LMS will these errors mess that up?If anyone had some time or insight I would be very appreciative!

I don't know where to begin because I don't know what I did to get the following results. When I publish my files I now get the following error Error unable to acquire LMS API, content may not play properly and results may not be recorded. Please contact technical support. Click OK to view debug information to send to technical support. First comes the Message Firefox prevented this site from opening a pop-up window. Then when I click allow I get the following message.So I will try to share files with your to show you what I'm getting. Can anyone help? I'm totally at a loss for what to do at this point.

This error indicates you have your content set up to report to an LMS but you're not launching it from within the LMS environment.
Are you testing this content from your local hard drive or a LAN drive rather than uploading it to your LMS for testing from the web server?
If you're playing the content locally, then it's going to go in search of an LMS to talk to and find none out there. I'd find that frustrating too.

Captivate 6 Errors: Missing file libwinpthread-1.dll and The Application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b) on Windows 2008 R2

I have a problem with Captivate 6 installation on Windows Server 2008 R2. I have 2 different scenarios where I tested but the result is same.
1- I used AMEE (Application Manager Enterprise 3.1) to create the installation Package to deploy through SCCM 2012.
Notice that the current package works fine on Windows7 (x86 & x64) but not on 2008 R2 due to an error after I try to launch Captivate.exe application.
The error states that there's a Missing file: libwinpthread-1.dll and if I copy and made a registration of this .DLL file then it sends another error saying: The Application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b) so it never let me launch the application.
2- Now if I install the package directly from the Original sources(CD) without creating any AMEE package after completing the installation I still have the same error about the DLL missing file.
Is there any fix or workaround to install Captivate 6 on Win2008 R2 ?

Captivate 4 - Bookmark feature for LMS

I have completed all development of a course, but have just learned that a bookmark feature is required by the LMS. There must be a way for a User to begin the course then stop, and later be brought back to the same place.
Is there a setting in Captivate where I can enable this feature?

Does your CP-movie have quiz slides and if so, do you report to the LMS? Then you have to activate Resume Data, which is normally the standard option in the LMS Customization Setting (Quiz Preferences, Settings).
When I'm not using the SCORM-functionality (reporting scores), I use the TOC-feature and activate the option 'Self-paced Learning' in the Settings, Runtime Options of the TOC, to have the bookmarking function. I'm certain there are other ways, perhaps someone else will give you another solution. If you do not want to lose any space on your screen you can put the TOC in overlay mode.

Can we pass parameters back and forth between Captivate 4 and a homegrown LMS?

We are currently using a home grown LMS and ToolBook. At the beginning of every training course we are passing several parameters to ToolBook using a getparameters function and sending several parameters back to the LMS from our ToolBook assessments using HTTP Post.
We are in the process of elavuating Captivate 4 and we need to be able to do something similar to what we are currently doing with ToolBook. At the start of each training session we need to be able to send several pieces of information (user ID, return URL, etc. etc,) from the LMS to Captivate and at the end of each assessment we need to be able to send several pieces of information back (user ID, pass/fail, score, etc.) to the LMS. We do not need to display any of the information brought into Captivate.
Is it possible to do this using Captivate user-defined variables and HTTP? If so, can anyone out there give us some pointers on exactly how to accomplish this. If not, is there any way that this can be done with Captivate?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I don't really have any examples at hand but the basic process would be something like this.
1. Create the user defined variable in your Captivate project. Publish your project.
2. Edit the HTML file and add your JavaScript to send that information into the Captivate user defined variable. I can't remember the exact JS code for that but perhaps you can see that from the link Rick posted. If not then that information can definetly be found on www.pipwerks.com and I think he has a couple of examples as well (check out the "Lab").
That should really be it.

Database.pl error in Ciscoworks LMS 3.2

Dear Friends,
I am getting the following error only for database.pl when i run selftest under Common-->Services-->Admin:

FAIL Self Test Fail to query dfmEpm.DbVersion, Error: Database server not found (DBD: login failed)
Self Test Fail to query dfmEpm.SYSTABLE, Error: Database server not found (DBD: login failed)
Please find enclosed the output of pdshow.
Can you please advise the recommended action for this?

The DFM EPM database is down. This could be indicative of a corrupt database, or simply a damaged transcation log. Shutdown Daemon Manager, then delete NMSROOT/databases/dfmEpm/dfmEpm.log if it exists. Then run:
NMSROOT/objects/db/win32/dbsrv10 -f NMSROOT/databases/dfmEpm/dfmEpm.db
Then restart Daemon Manager. If the EPMDbEngine process is still down, then you will need to reinitialize your EPM database, or restore LMS from a known good backup. To reinitialize the database, run:
NMSROOT/bin/perl NMSROOT/bin/dbRestoreOrig.pl dsn=dfmEpm dmprefix=EPM
