Captivate 3 freezing when publishing- help?

Hi,
I’ve reached the end of my tether and was hoping someone could help me out with some professional Captivate insight.
I have had a good look around this forum and tried several things
-          I have unchecked the advanced project compression option (still froze)
-          I have unchecked this AND the compress compiled SWF file (when I’ve done both it has published but published a blank presentation)
-          I have removed the borders on the slides
-      I have saved the audio and slides on to my C drive (and not on my network) and used them from there
I am using Captivate 3 to make a number of lectures available on my company’s website. This involves importing slides from Power Point, matching them with the audio recording of the lecture and publishing them on Flash 8.
I have a new pc with 132 GB of free space however recently any project I am attempting to publish freezes during the publishing stage- during the swf compression. In the past this has worked fine- although I was mostly publishing 2 hour lectures (but one or two 3 hour lectures published successfully) and now I am only publishing 3 hour ones.
To give an example currently I am attempting to publish a lecture with 57 slides. These are non animated slides, only containing text and bullet points. However they are on my company’s heavily branded template and therefore are 1.93 MB in size. Thinking this was the problem I put the slides on a blank template and just included a logo, cutting them down to 300 KB in size- still it froze when publishing. When beginning a project I will
-          Import slides from Power Point
-          Import them as Background Image
-          Advance slides automatically
Then I will import the audio, which admittedly is very large at just shy of 3 hours in length and 157 MB in size. I will then click the distribute audio over several slides option and do that manually in accordance with the lecture. When I publish I choose flash player 8 and the audio settings are MP3, 64 kpbs, 44.10 KHz
Is I just that the audio is too large or does anyone have any other ideas?
I would be very grateful for any help

Hi there
Wow, I would think 3 hours of audio would gag Captivate big time. Most of the Captivate movies I've ever seen or dealt with were perhaps five minutes long if that.
Are you able to perhaps slice and dice the audio? My thought here is that if you really need three hours of audio, perhaps you break the three hour clip in to smaller segments. This would reduce the size of each project and perhaps help you be more successful. Maybe slice a three hour audio clip into six segments of 30 minutes each. Then see if your publishing is more successful working with smaller segments. If so, you could then Daisy Chain the projects together to achieve a seamless transfer where as one segment finishes, the next loads up and plays.
Click here to view a demonstration of the Daisy Chaining process
Hopefully this was helpful to you... Rick

  • Video files in Captivate 6 externalize when publishing the project. Is there any way to publish an S

Video files in Captivate 6 externalize when publishing the project. Is there any way to publish an SWF project with the video files all in one single file?

Rhonda, I used Captivate 6. Create a New Project. Set the project size to the size of  your MP4. In my experience, this was 640 v 480 which also happened to fit nicely within my final project.
From the menu, select Video > Insert Video. Choose "Multi-slide Synchronized" and point to the MP4 on your local drive. Select a skin and playbar that you like from Project > Skin Editor. Then publish. In the Publish dialog, choose SWF as your output format option (not HTML5).
This is the SWF that I added to my master project through Insert > Animation.
    Hope this helps!

  • Adobe Captivate 6 Error when publishing

Help!  I having trouble publishing a training that my employees can view.  When they open the project they are getting the first image here that is essentially blank.  I have attempted to reduce the size and save to different folders etc. but nothing seems to work.

    Hi there,
Could you tell me the complete version of Captivate (Help > About Adobe Captivate).  6.0.1.240
Which version of Adobe Reader or Acrobat are they using?  Adobe Reader XI
Can you publish this locally on your system (not to network drive directly), check force republish option also, and are you able to view it on your end?  I can pull up the file from my computer that is saved in the same drive that the agents are attempting to pull up.  But, I am not sure if it is viewing for me because I have it on my system.

  • Cannot get next captivate to open when published as a zip

I am currently using Cap 4, but have the trial of Cap 5 as well.
I have a 7 mod course and need to be able to open the next Captivate module from the the last slide of the current module.
I have inserted a button with a path to the next movie, it works in both versions 4 and 5 when I publish in a folder, but when I publish as a zip file I get an error stating it cannot find the path.
I have moved the swf and html into the zip with the current movie, but it still errors out.
Can we "chain" the modules this way when publishing as a zip?  I do need it to be a zip file for loading into LMS.
I'd appreciate any info that can help me out.

How are you asking the next project to open?  Are you using a URL or the Project File Name?  How are you publishing the files?
I've used this technique before with success (although never loaded it into an LMS).  I used the Start/End under Preferences and linked to the Project name.  All of the .exe files were in the same zip folder.
I'm not sure if the .exe works with an LMS, though.

  • Captivate 6 freezes when deleting slides

    Hey all,
Captivate 6.0.0.199 freezes when deleting a slides.  This does not occur on another machine running the exact same version.  This occurs with both new CPTX files created in CP6 and also those upgraded from CP5.
    We are on Windows 7.
Any ideas?  Deleting slides would be nice.
    Micky

I see. Let's just try to break down the problem to simpler levels to isolate the cause.
    Attempt following tests :
    1) Delete just one slide
    2) Delete any object from any specific slide
    3) Try running capuitivate in admin mode (right click and Choose Run as Admin)
    4) If you add new slides and save it and close and reopen, does it show changes made?
    5) Please close all projets and just work on a single new project, add some slides, save it and try deleting
Let me know the result of these, try these after updating Captivate.

  • Captivate 8 crashes when publish "near CD quality" audio

When publishing a project using "Near CD quality" in the size/quality settings, Captivate 8 crashes midway through the publishing process.  I can split the project in 2 parts and it will publish successfully.  I am running Captivate as an administrator.  My system:  Intel Core i7-4700MQ CPU @ 2.40GHz, 8 GB DDRS RAM, GeForce GT755M, Samsung SSD 840 EVO 250GB (125GB available)

It appears, looking through the crash log, that this particular project/file has become corrupted so...
I would suggest you use the Selective Track Import feature in Logic and see how much of it you can rescue...

  • Captivate 7 freezing when trying to edit spelling preferences?

It's really as simple as the title says. My version of Captivate 7 freezes everytime I open spelling options?
    I'm using the Mac version.
Has anyone else had this problem? Am I missing some files, or something?

Hi nic_murdock, Can you check whether you have "Linguistics" folder created under "/Library/Application Support/Adobe"? if not, can you do the following steps
Close Captivate if it is open.
    Step 1
    Open finder
Open the Go menu and select “Go to Folder”
Type in /Library/Application Support/Adobe and click on Go button
Create a new folder and call it Linguistics
Inside the Linguistics folder, create another folder and call it 6.0
Leave this open. We will come back to it
    Step 2
Open new finder window (File->New Finder Window)
Open the Go menu and select “Go to Folder”
Type in /Applications/Adobe Captivate 7/required/Plug-Ins/mac/Linguistics and click on Go button
Select the 2 folders LanguageNames2 and Providers and copy them
Go back to the other finder window which we opened earlier in Step 1 and paste it inside the folder 6.0
Launch Captivate and check the spelling preferences.
Let us know if this still doesn't resolve the issue. You can send a mail to me at sankaram at adobe dot com.
P.S : All the folder names are in bold.
    Thanks,
    Sankaram.

  • Captivate 5 freezes when opening edit video timing

When I insert a video slide and go to Properties > Video > Edit Video Timing,  Captivate freezes and I need to restart the program. I first played around with feature about three weeks ago and did not experience a problem. Is there something in a recent update that is now causing this issue?
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi there,
Not sure why it is happening to you all of a sudden. Can you restart captivate with fresh set of preferences.
    1. Close Captivate.
    2. Delete "Captivate 5" folder from "C:\Users\userName\AppData\Local\Adobe\" location
    3. Restart captivate and try the workflow you mentioned.
    Let me know.

  • Captivate 5 Freezes when I try to Record Audio To Slide

    Hello,
I'm having difficulties with recording audio to slide in Captivate 5. Recording to slides, background, and object work, but when I try to record to slide, the computer appears to freeze (until I press escape and then I can select buttons again).
I have Windows XP on my computer. I have deleted the preferences C:\Documents and Settings\name\Application Data\Adobe\Captivate, following advice on other threads, but this does not help.
This issue just started yesterday. I was able to record to slide before.
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Debbie

    Hi DebsterV,
Did you try upgrading the system audio drivers as RodWard suggested?
If even that does not resolve your issue, let me know so that we can have a connect session.
    Thanks,
    Vikranth.

  • Captivate 6 - Error when publishing to Adobe PDF

    Adobe Captivate CS6
    Windows 7 (Pro)
    Adobe Acrobat 9 (Pro)
Previously, with Captivate 5.5, I was able to Publish > SWF/HTML5 > Export PDF and use the PDF file to use for a review. However, with Captivate 6 I get an error when I attempt to publish my lessons to PDF. The image below shows what appears when I publish:
Has anyone had this problem and found a solution? I am not sure what I might have setup differently to cause this error.
In case it helps, here is my Publish screen:

Hi - if you search you will find a few questions varying on this theme, and I'm having a similar problem. It seems as though it may be related to Flash and Reader versions, as when Reader 10.1.4 upgraded automatically to 10.1.5 suddenly I was unable to read any new or previously working PDF files. I also had a colleague say that if he rolled back to Flash 11 (no later than just Flash 11) it started working again. If you want to try this, you can download an older version here - http://get.adobe.com/uk/reader/otherversions/
If this is the case, there seems to be no solution as yet (I happened to log in to make sure there had been no replies and saw your message!), but you can keep an eye on this thread to see if anything is posted here - http://forums.adobe.com/message/5011573#5011573

  • Captivate v5 Freezes when Pick Color tool selected

When I click on the Pick Color tool Captivate v5 (eLearning suite edition) freezes and locks up my computer.  Task manager won't even start so I can't stop Captivate running.  End up having to hard boot the computer.  Is anyone else seeing this problem?  Any potential solution?

Maybe something has corrupted. Try the normal work flows:
    1. Clear cache and check if that helps
    2. Refresh Preferences, you can use the batch file in Utils under the installation folder; this will delete all customisation however.

  • Adobe apps freeze when opening help file

When I click help in the help menu, the PDF opens right away, but then Premiere freezes for about 40 seconds. I suspect it is trying to download some Internet content, but this behavior needs to be fixed. My Mac Pro is connected to an AirPort Extreme via wifi, but this network is not connected to the Internet, it's just for internal file transfers. If I turn off the computer's wifi, this problem does not happen. I get the same symptoms with Premiere, After Effects, an Media Encoder. All of the help PDFs are downloaded already and show current in Adobe Help.

  • Captivate 8 Freezes When Printing Handouts to Word 2013

Printing handouts to Word freezes Captivate 8 when the progress bar reaches 90%. At this point, via the Windows task manager, I gather that Word is asking to save both the .normal template and a file 'Adobe Captive.dotm' in the gallery folder. Clicking the save button has no effect, other than messages noting that these files are locked or read only.
I am able to work around this by first starting Word as an administrator (and leaving it running) then starting Captivate as an administrator. But this only works for me because I own my hardware. This will be an issue for corporate users lacking admin rights on their PCs.
The issue does not resolve permanently after doing the above workaround. Rather, as soon as I am not logged in as an admin, the issue recurs. Printing Step by Step docs to Word works without the workaround, possibly because the Word formatting is rudimentary. I have tried several output locations on the C: drive, desktop, etc. with the same results.
I am running Webroot antivirus, Windows 8, on an i7 ultrabook with ample memory and drive space. Adobe personnel, this issue is noted in Case #0185556636.
    Thanks!

If you navigate to the EXE files for Captivate and Word in the Program Files folder, right click the EXE and set the option in the Compatibility tab to Run As Administrator, then these applications should always launch with Administrator privileges.
You are correct that corporate users will not likely be able to do this as most corporate systems are locked down to a point where common users do not have any level of admin privileges.  There are times when Captivate will simply NOT work well for those users.
