Captivate 3 Not Publishing

I know there are many threads on this topic, but I've tried almost every solution that I've seen, and none seem to work.  I have a small project (15 slides) with no audio, not even 3,000 KBs.  Sometimes it will publish, but with certain projects, Captivate seems to get stuck publishing at the "Writing Tags to stream to SWF" stage.
Things I've tried:
- I thought the problem could have been due to a Flash 10 update, so I uninstalled Flash 10 and reinstalled Flash 9.  That didn't work, so I repeated the process with Flash 7 and 8. Nothing.
- I have rebooted the computer 5 different times.  (Mainly due to Flash installs and uninstalls.)  Doesn't seem to make a difference.
- I removed all unused items.
- I did a Save As.
- I tried publishing to a different location in order to not make the final name as long (ie, my Desktop)
- I am not publishing to a networked location.
- I removed compression.  I removed advanced compression, compress compiled SWF file, and Compress Full Motion Recording file.  (I tried publishing will all removed, just one removed, two of the three removed, etc.  Nothing helped.)
- I cleaned out my temporary internet files and cookies.
- I defragmented my computer.
Nothing has made any difference.  Does anyone have any ideas of anything else I could possibly try?  I'm at the end of my rope here.
If you have any ideas I would greatly appreciate it!  Thank you so much in advance.
Carol

Thank you for the help Erik.  Unfortunately, I tried both of these to no avail.  It seems to get stuck at the "Writing SWF Tags to Stream" part.
What's even more weird is that I can publish other files, but some I can't.  (I work with a lot of different projects).  I guess it could possibly be something that's in the file, but I'm not sure what since the only thing that's in there are the background images.  Since it's still occurring when I copied the slides from the previous file and I'm still having the same problems, this is the avenue I'm pursuing next, but there doesn't seem to be anything else in there!
If anyone has any other ideas, I'm absolutely open to it!  Thanks again!

  • Adobe Captivate not publishing results

    Hi,
We appear to be having a problem with Captivate where it's not publishing results to a network drive.
We have applied the fix as details below:
    http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager04.htm l
3rd tab along, click 'Always Allow'
    Add
    T:\
    \\my-network-path\tdrive\
I have tried this however its not publishing results.
Does anyone have any ideas on why this would not be working?
    Thanks

The Flash Global Security settings govern whether or not content on a LAN or remote drive will play properly for the user that adds this location to their trusted settings.  However, it doesn't necessarily give you PERMISSION TO UPLOAD published content to that location.
If you're having difficulty getting Captivate content published TO the location (as opposed to playing it from there) then you need to investigate whether or not you have write permissions for that folder.  This is  network administration thing, not usually connected to Flash security. It could also be that there is some restriction built into your IT network that will only allow certain filetypes to be uploaded.
Bottom line is that you may need to check with your IT dudes.

  • Captivate not publishing mpeg-4 video's or uploading to youtube

    Hi,
Got a really annoying problem with Captivate 5.5, it's the trial version and until this I was intending to buy the product. But I've just spent a day producing a video with it, the project comes to 1.8Gb so it's not small.
Anyway, it all works fine, until I click on File > Publish > Select MP4 Video(*.mp4) > Select the Apple iPhone 4/ Apple iPod Preset and click on Publish.
The software launches does it's pop-up dialoge thing and Adobe Captivate Video Publisher appears with a second progress box saying "Generating Video..." the progress bar sat at 0% while I went away and watched a 2 hour movie. All it says under the progress bar is "Initializing..." and it does bugger all else. I've rebooted the PC, and tried several times with absolutely no sucess.
The project exports as a SWF and EXE file just fine. But the process balls up when exporting a .MP4 file. I've even tried different formats. But as far as I can tell the sodding thing isn't even starting the encode.
The software is running in administrator mode, and exporting to a file location that isn't protected by UAC so there's no reason for it I've even disabled my virus software just in case that was lagging the system down. But nothing I do seems to make the damndest bit of difference.
Can someone offer any advice. I'm not spending hundreds of pounds on software that can't even export to MP4, not when Camtasia does it just fine.
    (System spec, Windows 64, 4Gb RAM, 3.0 Dual core, nVidia 8800GTS 320Mb)

No it's not dragging it's feet. I can deal with dragging feet. If I had to leave my system rendering for a day, so be it. I spend more time then that rendering CGI graphics. It's not "dragging it's feet" it's not even getting up out of the sofa. It can't be arsed. Error reporting? Not for Adobe! None of that peasky information for users from them! No, lets just leave them sitting there waiting while it "initializes" that's real helpful. Sitting there with a 0% bar. No helpful information like "whow dude your project is MASSIVE, this will take a while." no handy progress bar showing how the initialization is going. No no, none of that for Adobe. That would be too helpful. Obviously they're going to charge you so much money for the single most unprofessional peace of tat I've ever had the misfortune to use.
P.S. I chopped up the project, into no more than 15 minute segments. It managed to render out the first 4, how it's doing exactly the damn same thing for section 5. Apparently 15 minutes of real world tutorial too much to expect as well.
P.S.S. It's hundreds of megabytes isn't a problem in this day and age. I can download a 500Mb file in what? Half an hour? Perhaps 2 for slower users. Hell I download games from Direct2Drive totalling 8.7Gb takes a coulpe of days, but there's no problem doing it. As for users without broadband, DVD's hold 4.7Gb, couple of those isn'g a problem. I've got other solutions that will stick 5 - 7 hours of HD interactive content onto a single DVD without a problem. The only real world bandwidth colleges really have to use is whatever it takes to report the examination statistic and answers at the end of the session. I don't think a PC is sold these days with less than 80Gb, and single issue network deployment solutions aren't a problem.
It's not like their streaming system is worth damn, if you're worried about users running off with your materials. There's no effective DRM solution built into captivate so nothing stopping users capturing the stream and re-hosting it. Not low bandwidth sales pitch they've got you on is totally insane. I can't see any way in which this product can justify it's price tag. I can only imagine there's educational material out there that's so bad it's making users wonder why they pay for the course in the first place.
Sod it, I'll program the thing in C++ that'll shave off a few gigabytes given the bloated shite Captivate generates. 1.8 is a sodding joke. I can encode 2.5 hour movies at just over 1.2gb in freaking 720p HD. This thing can't even manage 50 minutes of full motion content, and 40 minutes of still images with mpeg-3 compressed audio inserted into the slide. 1.8 Gb for 50 minutes FMV?
    /end rant

  • Projects first created in Windows are now not publishing correctly from a Mac

I've been using the Windows version of Captivate for months without issues, putting together a large number of HTML5 courses, non-responsive. Lots of custom javascript via the 'Execute JavaScript' action for smartshapes, etc.
I just purchased a new Macbook Pro and then purchased a subscription license for Captivate. Now my cptx files that were working fine when opened and published from Windows Cp are very not publishing correctly - the javascript does not execute, etc. Everything *appears* fine within Captivate but I get issues upon preview/publish.
Thank goodness I have the 30 days to cancel the subscription and get a refund...but before I do that - has anyone else tried switching to a Mac and run into problems with Captivate projects?
Both machines have 8.01 installed. The only thing I can think of is, after installing 8.0 via the subscription download, I then did the 'Check for updates' and it went and downloaded and installed the 8.01 update. When I did this on Windows I followed the directions on a blog post somewhere (sorry - I forget the name!) that stressed deleting some directories on the machine first before running the update. I assumed the subscription files would be fixed/patched....

After struggling with this last night I took a look again this morning and narrowed down and corrected the problem. Basically, this is what happened to cause the issue and how I resolved it. Hopefully it helps others in the future.
    Steps
Create project in Windows version of Cp (I was using version 8.01).
For my client's requirements, which are quite unique and complex compared to the typical Cp project, custom quiz questions/scoring had to be developed. Since these are HTML5 (non-responsive) courses, and Javascript is the fastest/most efficient way to do this, I used Javascript extensively for quizzes via the 'Execute Javascript' action. So for quiz questions, each answer is simply a smartshape (transparent, with answer text in it) that triggers the 'Execute Javascript' on click. In addition, on many of the quiz slides there are Edge Animate/HTML5 interactions embedded.
Worked fine on windows upon publish. But when I opened on a new Mac and published, when a question answer was clicked nothing would happen.
Turns out the problem seems to be with the text in the Javascript window. I think it somehow gets corrupted, though it looks fine. I had to literally delete the javascript, save it, and then copy it back in. Once I did that, it works.
I've invested too much time in this project so far, so don't want to risk any more major issues popping up like this, so I switched back to Windows and canceled my subscription this morning. Fortunately I have a license from my employer for Windows and will just use that with Boot Camp.

  • Can preview, not publish

I am using Captivate 4 on Windows XP. I have several cp files I am working with. All publish to swf except one. This one file allows me to preview, but not publish. There is no error message generated. I click the "Publish" button, the mouse pointer turns into an hourglass for a few seconds and then nothing happens...have waited 10 minutes without a response.
    I have tried:
publishing to swf, exe, avi, etc
    turning off compression
    importing slides into blank presso
having user on different machine try it
I am at wits end, so any help is appreciated!

    Hi there
Are we to assume the Publishing Process failed for the user on the other machine?
Assuming the answer to that is yes, I might surmise that the only real option left is to create a new blank project sized identical to the first. Then copy the slides from the errant project to the fresh one and publish from the fresh project.
You should also report this as a bug to Adobe.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Adobe Captivate Help | Publish projects as HTML5 files

This question was posted in response to the following article: http://helpx.adobe.com/captivate/using/publish-projects-html5-files.html

I opened a captivate project and published as HTML5. It worked in a browser on the desktop. then I tried it on an iPad. That also worked. Then I tried it on an iPhone. that worked, but the document was far too large for the iphone to display. I was curious as to whether or not the "scale html content" check box would make a difference for iphone, so I tried it. It did fix that problem, but, as expected, it broke the animations. Now when I try to publish to HTML5 it creates a sort-of hybrid, where the document is the correct dimensions in a browser on the desktop, but it is forced into smaller dimensions on the iPad, and no where do the animations work anymore, although the "scale html content" check box is unchecked. I used the Captivate cache clearing button in preferences and cleared my browser cache on the iPad, restarted the computer, etc. To no avail. It seems using the "scale html content" has permanently broken Captivate 7. I am now considering reinstalling it.

  • 5.5 not publishing to MP4

Captivate 5.5 not publishing well to MP4.  Works fine in SWF.  When we pulish to MP4 the first frame text animations seem to freeze, second frame through the end works fine.

    Hi there,
    Welcome to Adobe Community.
Is it happening when you check this on a new project?
Have you tried any other text animation?
Try to copy all the slides and paste them onto a new blank project and then publish and see if that helps.
    Thanks!

  • Trouble viewing Captivate 8 published output.

Trouble viewing Captivate 8 published output.  I created a course for a client who also wants a video of it.  I published and I can see it on my end, but when I send them the files using DropBox, they can't open the .SWF, the Chrome.HTML, or the AVI or MP4's I've put out there.  At first I thought it was operator error, but there are 5 people who can't view them.  Was I supposed to add other supporting docs that were not in the Published folder?
    Help, please.
    Teresa

That's what I thought too.  I wonder if they are trying to run it right out of Dropbox.  I also told them they could right click and open in Internet Explorer if Chrome was problematic.
So I only have to provide the packaged file right?  I've always just delivered the published folder, so I was really at a loss as to why they can't run it.  Could this also be a Systems Security issue?  Perhaps their employer blocks this sort of action?
Thanks so much for your input.  I really appreciate the help (and validation).

  • Adobe captivate video publisher upload button does nothing

Hi, on 2 different machines, the adobe captivate video publisher upload button does nothing.  Add to that support says it's not available when I called in on a trial product.  Hmmm if you won't help BEFORE I buy, what will happen after?  c'mon... i've purches thousands of dollars worth of adobe software and currently own the creative cloud ...and I get the brushoff like that?  Oh and the chat system wasn't working becuase the queue was too full....

lol.  Great day.  Just not for Adobe! .  Worked fine on my older imac 27", but not my 2 new machines at work... macbook air and pc with a lowly 24gb ram... go figure.

  • Captivate 3 Published file won't execute JavaScript

Pulbished Captivate 3 course.   Final screen has an exit button with the following script:  ab_SetScoreStatus(100,'completed');ab_CloseWindow();       When I post the course to our LMS it uploads fine, but when I try and run the course I get an error when I click on the Exit button and it doesn't do anything.   I had someone try the same thing on their computer and it works fine for them so I'm thinking it's something with my settings.   This used to work for me but then I got a new computer so not sure if the settings (IE, Flash or ????) are different or what.   I'm running Flash 10, and IE 8.   Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Good morning Rick, and thank you for trying to help.

  • Captivate 6 publish to mp4 has lines & choppy screens on some slides?

Choppy/garbled lines show up in some slides... cant' figure out how to get rid of them.  Happens on multiple files.
    Details:
    Captivate 6
    Output: mp4
    type: demo
    Things I've tried:
I have removed any video slides (that seems to be some of when it occurs but not always)
    I have updated to 6.0.1.24
i have cleared my file cache
I have changed the location of my working file, my cache & my publish to files to all be on my local drive (had to get an override of admin rights to do this)
I have attempted taking a "snapshot" of the background and creating a brand new slide when the problem occurrs... this works sometimes only.
Here's a screenshot of the mess on my screen... it moves and flashes.
Thanks in advance for any help.
    -Tanya

Thanks ... I'm trying these things sequentially to see if anything helps.
Yes, you're correct, it's a captured demo simulation.
First, changed the slides in question to be Optimized slide quality, published - no luck.
Then, I unchecked the compression options in preferences and published again - no luck.
Lastly, I checked "force republish" and republished - no luck.
It's odd, they have no moving parts, no extra's... nothing special.  And they will not publish correctly for anything.
I'm not exactly sure what FMR stands for (I've looked all over) but it appears to be something with video slides.  I've actually removed all of those and replaced with short screen shots successioned to look like movement as I have seen that cause problems with some application captures also.
Any other thoughts would be very appreciated.

  • Can Not Publish "Step By Step" To Word

    Hello All-
I am trying to publish a "step by step" to a word document, but when I do I get an error message (Print Screen attached).
I use OpenOffice rather then word, is this what is causing the problem? Also the "error log" that captivate is trying to create is non existent because the directory it is trying to save it to does not exist....
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Rick-
Now it is working fine (so far), I've only had it installed for a few days, and at this point I still lean pretty heavily on Flash to create content (read, its new and I dont know how to work it).
The install was not Captivates fault actually it was because I downloaded the beta of flash player 10.1, and I could NOT uninstall it, captivate couldn't find it (it was in programs (x86) and captivate was looking in programs). Finally out of frustration I just did a clean install of Windows. I have plenty of back up drives so I just saved everything I needed and started fresh, and from there I have had no problems.
In general Windows 7 is great OS, I've been using the beta for over 6 months now and haven't had a single problem, aside from the occasional driver issue (which I haven't had since it went into production which is encouraging, one of the biggest problems I had with Vista was sound card/driver issues that NEVER were fully resolved)
The only other "Adobe/Windows7" issues I've had (that were not related to the Flash player) was some weird problem where Fireworks needed to modify my registry everytime I ran it, but that too has been resolved by reinstalling Windows.
I did follow your recommendation and send an email to the "feature request"
    Hello-
I was trying to publish module to "step by step" text document. I use OpenOffice and don't have Word on my computer. I found out that I could not use this feature with out word. I don't know anything about Software development, but my assumption is that Captivate can not just create a .doc file with out access to some portion of the native word program?
It would be great to be able to use other word processing programs, such as OpenOffice or iWork (for those Apple people out there) I got the impression through your forums that Captivate ONLY publishes to MS Word.
If other Word processing programs are too intensive to "patch", being able to publish them to a PDF file would be a nice work around.  Thanks for your consideration.  Regards, Nathan Stryker 612-208-9081 (please feel free to contact me if you would like more information or know of a work around)
Any good resources online to get more value out of captivate (other then Lyndia)?
    Regards,
    Nathan

  • Ical not publishing to dotmac--new information

Hello, I have been having a hard time with icalendar not publishing on dotmac. It started happening suddenly on my upgrade to 10.5.2.
The dotmac support people have been responding to my inquiries with the following suggestions (eached bumped to a higher level):
    1) unpublish and republish--nope doesn't work
    2) corrupted file, remake the calendar (which means re enter every entry)
    3) the most recent is that my file size (1.9 mbytes) can't be published on ical.
Has anyone heard this before? It is news to me, and google and forum searches have not indication of a limit to ical file sizes for dotmac publication.
Now it seems my choices are:
    1) Try to find a way to bulk delete old events (there have been some messed up syncs with missing sync that have created a lot of repeated events). There are literally thousands of individual events that have to be deleted over the 5 years I have been using ical.
    2) Re enter my dates in a new calendar going forward and publish that new calendar. Frankly, that seems easiest, but I have to admit being peeved at the undocumented file limit.
It is not a matter of my idisk size or anything like that. According to the tech " and can see that it has a file size of 2 MB. I'm sorry, but your calendar is too large to be rendered on a web browser. iCal publishing is intended primarily for personal use, and not as a means of publishing such a large and complex schedule.
I'm very sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. To decrease the size and complexity of your calendars, you might consider decreasing the event repetition, or splitting the events from one calendar into several smaller calendars."
    So, anyone have any pointers?

I'm also having this problem. Lots of things seem to be broken in 10.5.5. I see that iCal last published my calendar in August 2008. Spotlight no longer seems to be indexing iPhoto. I wonder what else doesn't work. Most aggravating is that Apple never seems to acknowledge these problems. As mysteriously as they came, they might go away. It just works => That's just the way it works!

  • Endpoints not published in Service Registry

    Hi all,
I have published all the Enterprise services from the Discovery system(ECC) and they are available within the service registry.
But somehow the endpoints are not published to the Service Registry because of which I am not able to consume the services for UI development in VC.
I have the following concerns :
       1) The ES are being tested successfully but not being sure why the endpoints were not published when the Services were published from the Discovery System.
       2) Can we forcefully create the endpoints in the Service Registry. If so, plz let me know the procedure.
      3) SP13 is applied on Discovery System, so I am not able to execute TCode SOAMANAGER to create Endpoints, so is there any other alternative, other than upgrading ECC to SP14.
Points will be rewarded for any help
    Regards Brian

    Hi Brian,
    Maybe the issue is wrt the Service Registry destination definition. The correct system name should be picked from the SLD system name (under http://host:port/sld) definition (I think it CE1 by default). You can also refer other issues I faced in a similar situation that i documented in thread [Endpoints not published in Service Registry;
I take my earlier comment about using the Publish function in Service Registry. I learn it should be not be used.
As regards the ServicesRegistrySi(Proxy Definition) URL, I guess you can use http://localhost:port/ServicesRegistrySiService/ServicesRegistrySiPort?wsdl&mode=sap_wsdl
