Captivate 3 - Transparant Captions issue

Hello,
I have several transparent captions in my project. I have
changed the option to appear for rest of project. However when i am
editing and when i publish the project the caption does not appear
except on first slide. Is this a bug or am i missing something?
Thanks you, Ellen

Thanks for the response.
the default id in Captivate3 is 'Captivate' (no number). I
checked one of my old Captivate1 scorm packages and the document id
is Captivate1 (as you mentioned). I check all document references
in the captivate3 html and they are all 'Captivate'.
Any other ideas?

• Transparent captions

Does anyone know why Captivate 3 is more likely to crash the
more transparent captions you have in a project. I started having a
problem when I reached the 10th slide of a project. Each slide had
one or two transparent captions, and it crashed every time I tried
to do anything (edit, preview, add an image, record - anything!)
After much trial and error, I discovered that if I changed
all the captions to anything other than transparent, the problem
disappeared. I've been able to recreate the issue in different
projects on different machines, so I think it's probably a
Captivate issue rather than a file or system issue.
My problem is that the design of this particular project
requres transparent captions. Does anyone know a fix for this? Have
a work around suggestion? Has anyone else experienced this?
Help would be greatly appreciated!
--ERR229

Hi ERR229
Has this issue just began appearing since applying the most
recent Captivate patch? I know Adobe are addressing an issue that
crept in with the patch in a few days.
Either way, you should consider submitting a bug report to
Adobe reporting the issue.
Click
here to view the WishForm/Bug Reporting Form
One possible immediate workaround would involve clicking Edit
> Preferences... > Project node > Settings node and
checking what the setting for "Don't Anti-alias Captions" is set
to. If you find the setting cleared, try enabling it. If it's
enabled, try disabling it and see what sort of result

• Transparent captions and extra line spacing

When I use transparent captions, the published version
sometimes shows some extra line space between the first and second
lines. The remaining lines are spaced evenly, but the first one has
too much space, which looks strange. How do I make that go away?
lae

I just had this same issue. Did you, by chance, do a copy
& paste into the text caption? That's what I did with exactly
the result you're experiencing. For marketing/flow purposes I
couldn't change my font, so for me that wasn't the issue. I did,
however, retype the entire caption and that solved my issue. Maybe
this will work for you as well.
Good Luck,

• Transparency flattening issue (I think)

Hi all,
I'd appreciate your help with this. I've tried researching this through the forum yet still find myself confused. I think it's a transparency flattening issue, but I'm unsure of how to fix it, and even at what point to fix it.
I designed this for a magazine ad in InDesign CS2 and exported to PDF. The polaroids have drop shadows, which look fine on screen:
But when I print I get these ugly "borders" where the transparencies are:
Can't get rid of them, except by printing the PDF as an image.
My questions are:
1) Assuming this is a transparency issue, how do I fix this? I've read about transparency presets on the forum, but (please forgive my lameness) I'm not sure how to actually apply them.
2) At what point do I fix this? I mean, as a best practice, is this something that's addressed inside InDesign, or during the export from InDesign, or when printing the PDF? It looked fine in the magazine so obviously they were able to fix it, but I'd still like to know what I'm doing wrong to save them extra work in the future.
I have Adobe CS2 and Acrobat 7 Pro on a Windows XP Pro.
Many thanks for your help,
Ed

That's quite a color shift, too, on the background which seems like more than you'd see from a poor image capture of the printed piece.
I bet you are using a spot color. Unless you are actually paying to have that spot color printed in the magazine (if they even would), you shouldn't be using it. Make sure you go into the ink manager and convert all spots to process, or replace any spot colors with process colors. You should be the one handling the color conversion, and using process color will simplify the flattening, I think.

• Adobe Captivate Help | Text captions

This question was posted in response to the following article: http://helpx.adobe.com/captivate/using/text-captions.html

Hi there
If you are trying to adjust margins or images of captions you have already used, the process is futile because once used, these are now cached inside the project file and subsequent changes have no effect.
What you can do to overcome it is to create a totally new caption set using the images and margin settings you want. Then when you use that set it will be copied into the project and become available.
If you aren't totally sure yet about margins or images, create a blank project. Tweak and use. Look ok? great! Look bad? Scrap the project, tweak the images or settings, then create another new blank project and test.

• Captivate 6--closed captioning not advancing

I have been converting files from Captivate 5.5 to Captivate 6 and assumed the closed captioning was advancing. I had no difficulty in 5.5 with the closed captioning advancing. In the converted files, the first closed caption appears and remains despite the voice advancing. I have had no difficulty in the past with closed captioning. I have ensured the appropriate boxes are checked for closed captioning and that the markers are placed where the closed captioning should change. I am not using any click boxes or anything exotic. I just import pptx files, use text to voice conversion, and then move the markers to where the closed captioning should advance to match the change in voices (I use a different voice for each caption). Some screen shots are:
I am having to convert my files in Captivate 6 since the pdf's are no longer readable with the updates to Adobe Reader. However, now my students can no longer view the closed captioning unless I save as just one caption per slide. SInce I have a distance undergraduate course currently underway and another starting this Fall, I would greatly appreciate any assistance anyone can offer. Thanks.

Gotcha -- basically the old non-technical method.

• Adobe Captivate 5 import caption style issue

Hi dear all,
I use captivate 5, and so is my college. We try to make a base template to use and distribute to all that will work with us.
There are issues with setting standards in Captivate 5
Problem no 1
One issue is that all changes made to caption styles are gone after you close and open your project again.
a) Edit
b) Object Style manager
c) Change styles on e.g. default
d) Press button "Apply"
e) when done press button "OK"
d) Save and close
f) Open
d) Enter Object Style manager = all styles are back to factory settings.
Respons to predicted questions:
Yes we tried both opening Captivate 5 as an administrator and as a normal user.
Yes my account on the computer is the admin account
My college got the "Project-all-styles.cps" file I exported by choosing "all styles of all objects" and pressing export
This is done under Object Style Manager.
Problem no 2
My college successfully imports the file "Project-all-styles.cps", by choosing the import function under the Object Style Manager
This results in one [Default Caption Style] that still is with factory settings and a new [Default Caption Style]_1 with my preferences are made.
Problem no 3
The [Default Caption Style] can not be deleted, i want to remove the one called [Default Caption Style] and change name on [Default Caption Style]_1
I want to remove _1
Solution 1
Find a way in Captivate 5 to unlock the "change default lock" that seems to be there
Solution 2
Enter the file that contains the default styles and change manually by typing by hand. I could not find th file for that. It does not seem to be an *.ini file containing that information.
I hope for good answers on these question.
Best Regards // Daniel Perez

Just make it easy
1. Use an understandable language like when defining styles
When opening a *.cps document it looks like this
And that is not good.
function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
$   < C a p t i v a t e S t y l e s / > •     ‰   ÷   Š     ‹        “   Œ                   D   ~   ÷   “          “   Ž       “          “          “   e   U   f      j   m       n       k   g   l   h       i   6   [ D e f a u l t   R e v i e w   A r e a   S t y l e ] k   m       n       k   g       h       i   ~   k   g       h       i   ÿÿÿÿk   g       h       i   ÿÿÿÿk   m       n       k   g   Š   h       i   ^   k   m       n       k   m       n       k   m       n       k   g       h       i     k   g       h       i     k   g   ÿ   h       i     k   g   ï   h       i     k   m       n       k   m       n       k   m       n       k   g   /   h       i       k   g   ¶   h       i       k   g   ·   h       i       k   m
n k m n k l ’ “ • ‰ ‘' Š ‹ } “ Œ D | ‘' “ 7 “ Ž 7 “ “ • ‰ ë Š ‹ 7 “ Œ
2. Let the user choose within three options, and be able to change choice later.
a. Embed the styles in the project
b. Absolute-link to a folder, network folder or URL (with the URL it is easier to collaborate between individuals and also change styles centrally if needed)
c. Relative-link to a file. (E.g. one homemade folder called styles that always are at the same level as the folder with the projects)
This makes it easier to move entire project to other computers.
3. Have a button that says "default" then the issue of overwriting default is not an issue anymore.
4. Do the same three steps with question pools, motions, and all other features that could be lifted out in their own files. (E.g. skin editor)
I think that it would make this tool a really really really tough competitor to beat.
Just to sell it in a bit more, if e.g. the question pools would be an easy understandable XML then it would be no match to export questions from old systems/PDF's or read in questions in paper form with an OCR and transform them to useful XML's
Best Regards and very hopeful for the future to come

• Captivate 3 Template Caption Cache Issue - Fixed in 4?

Well the title pretty much sums it up. We have learned that regardless of the caption preferences set and saved in a Captivate 3 project template, caption setting are overridden by the last set of caption preferences that were used. For example, I set the correct caption to be adobe green in my template, then saved and closed my template. Next I open a completely new project, use adobe blue for my correct answer caption, save and close that project as a seperate file. From here, if I open up my template and either work straight from it or import any other slides (tried it both ways), the correct answer caption will be adobe blue.
So here is the question, is this fixed in Captivate 4?
Thanks

Hi again
I believe in this case you are simply having a misunderstanding of how templates are intended to work.
What you want may be achieved by using a new feature in Captivate 4 called a Design Template. The fact we see Adobe added Design Templates probably attests to the fact that some users such as yourself found and expressed a desire as you have here. To easily influence content after it has been created.
I'd suggest downloading an evaluation version of Captivate 4 and testing to see if it meets your needs. If so, Bob's your uncle!

• Captivate Software Simulation Audio Issues

My Captive 8 software simulation slides have been having issues with the audio right after recording. Before I even publish anything, my audio will end up being 2-3 slides ahead of where it should be on the slides. As you may know, when recording a software simulation, captivate automatically generates the slides with each mouse click and should automatically insert the correct audio on each slide. This is not happening for me, and it is very time consuming to fix. I either have to re-record and hope it doesn’t happen again or do a lot of external audio editing.
It’s possible there may not be a resolution and it may be a recognized (or unrecognized) bug in Captivate. Just need to know whatever the case may be.
My initial gut reaction is to blame this on the latest Captivate 8 update… as I don’t remember experiencing this issue before. But then again, I also upgraded my mac to OS X and that may be a factor as well.
I've had people suggest to add a blank ending to the audio to restart the audio timer on the next slide, as well as add a transparent highlight box at the end of the slide, but these are ways to fix it when the file is published. Since my issue is happening before publishing, I was hoping someone on this forum may have an answer.

PIP is available in Presenter Video Creator, not in the normal Presenter plug-in. It is not available in Captivate normal projects with extension cptx. You can insert a PIP in the TOC, but have to record it separately.
In Captivate HD Video Demo, extension cpvc (which is also a video creator with a dedicated video editor) you can insert a PIP in the editor. But again you have to create it separately.
The choice is up to you: an easy way to have both recordings together, with very limited editing possibilites in Presenter. Or the Captivate way, more work, better editor.
Afraid to repeat again: we are only talking about pure video now. In the normal Captivate files, that are based on slides, you can insert a video (like a PIP) and distribute it over slides, adapting the slide markers is available in the Video menu. No webcam recording for the moment in Captivate.

Hi Rick,
I didn't notice any issues yet but I am actually able to record audio and record screen interactions now on my Vista 64-bit system.. The screen recordings are still a little buggy since it wont actually create the captions like it would do on a 32-bit system, but I'll try and reinstall Captivate and see if that helps out.

• CS5 Live Caption Issue with Anchored Images

For some reason, InDesign will not let me add a live or static caption if it is anchored in the body. I can put it on the pasteboard and add it but not while it is anchored. Does anyone know of a work-around?

Hi Richard,
I have the same problem as you do. I'm working on user manuals, with hundreds of screen captures I want to flow with text. The Live caption feature is wonderful, only it does not work with anchored images! If anyone out there finds a way to deal with this issue, or knows of a patch or update to download...

• Projects Published to AC from Captivate 6 have playback issues.

My end users are begining to complain about poor video playback from projects I publish to Adobe Connect using Captivate 6 64-bit on Windows 7.
They claim that slides that contain a video will either 1. never completely load, or, 2. once they do load, playback very slowly and experience audio-video sync issues.
I have a feeling it's a question of user bandwidth as I can view the projects fine from my office as well as my home network.
I experience no problems with video playback at all, neither do many of my co-workers on the same network.
End users have mentioned similar problems with other projects as well.
This particular project has 4 separate slides that contain inbedded video.
Total Project length is 39 slides.
Table of Contents is turned "OFF".
Video Files are FLV.
Preview playback works just fine, problem only exists when viewed from Adobe Connect.
I will include as much information as I can. Here is a screenshot of the project file as it lives on Adobe Connect.
Here are the publish settings for the project in question.
And the SWF Size and Quality Settings.
And the Publish Window. These are the settings I use to publish the project.
If this is not enough information, I will answer any questions asked and provide any additional iniformation I can.
Thanks!

• Captivate 6 HTML 5 issue with scalable HTML5

Hi,
I am using Captivate 6, I have a very small project of only about 10 slides but when I publish this to 'scalable HTML content' all the shapes dissapear, and certain slides don't work at all.
However, when I take off 'scalable HTML5 content' it works fine. My issue is, because this will be used on different tablets of all sizes its hard to chose the 'apple ipad' size of project when some people have android tablets because then it does not fit on the screen!!
Is there anything I can do to make sure it does work for all tablet sizes as the 'scalable' content is not working at all!!!
Thanks!

Hi Hannah,
Great to hear that it is working! I have seen these bizzare issues with Captivate and that was the only reason I suggested a copy paste at first. The only thing could be the corruption of the project.
I am glad that its resolved.
Thanks!

• Captivate 5: Export Captions then Import Captions Problems

Greetings,
The more I work with Captivate 5 the more disappointed I am in some of the changes. I just did a simple test (part of my normal workflow) where I export a project's Captions into Word (usually this would be to apply different symbols to bullit items). I didn't change anything this time, I just wanted to see how this function works in Captivate 5. Well, I certainly screwed up the project I was working on (good thing I was working on a backup!)
Why would a simple export then import (with no changes) thoroughly mess up text in a project? In previous versions of Captivate there would have been no changes, it would import what it exported. Now I am afraid to use this function. This was a powerful tool at one time.
In previous versions this was a wonderful way to have control over text. I could change bullit items, line and font spacing, etc.
Is there something I am missing in my workflow? Has anyone used this function? Is there any documentation available that might shed some light on how I need to change my work flow to accomodate this?
Thank you,
TPK

let me explain better :-)
in captivate 5 there a feature for people to export legend and sub title so some one could revise the slide text etc...
i exprt it in word format but the doc created we could reed the text cause the text is white on a white background
any idea ?
Thanks

• Semi-transparent Screen Issue X1 2014

Hey
I have this strange issue with my X1 (had it for a few months now but had the issue since the beginning).
Some colors, such as grey, make the edges of my screen semi-transparent as in I can see through to the application behind it.
I don't believe this is a screen issue but wondering if anyone else has experience this problem.
I have attached an image that makes it happen (try viewing it full screen and let me know what you see).
I have also attached an image of what I see.
http://1drv.ms/1qbIYx1
Does anyone else have this problem?

Your descriptions "semi-transparent screen" and "app behind the screen" are very confusing and it's difficult to understand what you mean.
What exactly is the running state of the computer? What apps are running in your photos (with the "XO" in the first picture and the vertical bar in the second picture)? Describe steps to produce the result.
I think you're saying that you are running one app and launch another app on top of it, and you can see the first app bleeding through. The first app isn't really bleeding through -- it was burned into screen (also known as image retention or ghosting). It's a screen display hardware problem that is common on some models of Lenovo laptops.
