Captivate 4 and highlight box

I have this project where a slide shows a button in my application the
user should press.
I have this caption with the text "Clique no botão Entregar" and a highlight box with the option Fill outer area checked.
I want to know WHY the highligth box is always going to the upper level, even when my caption is placed over all objects.
This is what I want:
And this is what I got when I preview the current slide.
This is what I got after publishing:
Any clues?

Hi there
What you posted seems to imply that you just looked at the timeline and ensured the Caption is the top layer. That is totally different than adding a totally new element to the slide.
The thing is, somehow, internally the application has become confused with which object is the top layer. And by introducing a totally new object, it should reshuffle the layering. Then you can delete the original caption.
Now if that's what you did and things aren't working, my guess is that you will need to re-create the slide and ensure things are added in the appropriate order. Perhaps the slide has become corrupt.

  • Mouse and highlights boxes

for some odd reason after i publish my project my mouse
cursor is always under my highlight boxes. On all of my slide
timelines my mouse is on the highest layer possible and my
highlight boxes are below it. anyone have any ideas as to why this
is happening? I haven't added anything new to my project, its in
its final state ready to go other then this issue. Thanks in
    advance!
    btw using version 2!

aphexburn, I'm sorry to see that you have given up, but when
reading your last post, a single thought kept resonating with me.
800 slides? Assuming that this wasn't a mistyping and you
really meant 80 slides, I am amazed that you are surprised to have
    had trouble!! Astounding!!
To others who might drop by this thread: A Captivate movie is
normally thought of as a project between 40 and 50 slides. Some
very large ones might be as large as 80 to 100, but a project that
size is against best practice. These are not written "standards"
but are recommendations of experts based on thousands of users'
sharing experiences, and the above numbers apply to
    all versions.
One of the overlooked reasons for keeping Captivate movies to
a reasonable (shorter) length is because it is easier to go back
and make changes to a 40 slide movie than to a 80 slide movie. It
is easier to find the slide you want to work on, and easier to
apply changes to multiple slides without the "goof" of including
some you didn't mean to change after all (which is why "Apply to
All" can be a fatal trap if not used very carefully).
Another reason is that even if you have a muscle machine with
resources sufficient to save and edit a 100+ slide movie, it often
becomes questionable whether or not your end-user's machine's
resources (and bandwidth) are capable of viewing the finished
    product.
Another reason is that the average adult's all-important
"attention span" - or just their available time - is often
stretched with over-long movies, whether demo, application
simulation, or soft-skills training. The average adult can handle
up to seven items at a time in memory, but those items should be
germane to a single point of focus, in order to be of bbest value
    in a learning process.
And if 100 slides is generally considered excessive (as a
"norm") what category does 800 slides fall?
Thanks for reading. This point is important to everyone, and
while I don't mean to belittle anyone, I could not remain silent on
this issue and let a single unhappy user mislead others, when all
that might have been required to avoid his or her dissatisfaction
is some basic knowledge about "best practices".
    Have a great day everyone!

  • Problem translating click/highlight boxes when copy and pasting slides from another project

I'm baffled by this problem as it doesn't seem to make sense. I opened up a new project to record a simulation in and when I was done, I copy and pasted all the slides into the appropriate section in my "Master Project" if you will. After the paste, I noticed that all the clickboxes and highlight boxes I had taken the time to carefully resize were all out of wack in terms of position. Here's the kicker, I opened up a blank project and copy/pasted the same slides...this time the click and highlight boxes were in the correct position. Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance,
    Neel

Oh, 'in terms of position'... I see...
Is the one project larger than the other? For example, the original perhaps at 800x600 and the new at 850x650?
Positioning may then be off relatively....
Pick a couple sample elements and note their x/y positions from the Properties panel in the first project (under 'Transform' in CP 5.5).
After pasting into the new, note those same x/y positions.
    Is there a noticable factor?
If this is the issue, be sure the sizes are the same, do the paste, then expand the project later (and maybe everything will retain its anchors?)
I've not seen this occur in newer versions of CP.
You could try checking the 'Constrain Proportions' option in the properties of the original, just in case that helps 'constrain the position' too...total guess...

  • Need help with publishing -- highlight boxes and recordings

I'm having a problem with publishing a presentation.  I've recorded audio for PP slides and added highlight boxes.  I've tested these in Edit mode - the recordings work fine and the highlight boxes appear correctly as per their settings.  When I go to publish, some of the recordings and highlight boxes are not working on some of the slides (but work fine on other slides).   Obviously I've missed some setting on these but I cannot figure out what and where.  Could anyone please help??

Just kidding. Now, the files seem to be uploaded and in the right folder; however, now the page just isn't loading. See what I mean, everything going wrong?!

  • How do I stop Captivate adding in text/highlight boxes when I film a project?

    Morning/Afternoon,
Whenever I film a new project Captivate 4 always adds in additional text boxes with "Click OK button" and "Opens Parameter Window" and also adds in it's own highlight boxes.  How do I turn this off?  It's not that much of a problem as I have to go in and edit every screen anyway but I was wondering if there was a way to stop them appearing in the first place.
Thank you very much for your help,
    Michelle

    Hi there
You do this by changing the Recording preferences.
Click Edit > Preferences... > Recording > Modes and choose one of the modes. Demonstration seems a likely choice.
Select or clear the desired options.
Click the image below for full size view.

  • Highlight boxes show in preview but not in published work - Captivate 5

    Hello,
I'm hoping someone can help me with this as I'm utterly confused at the moment. I'm working on a software simulation and have been working alot with highlight boxes. I have done at least 3 modules (25-60 slides each) with highlighting and haven't had a problem until now.  My problem is that I can't get the highlight boxes to show up on the published document. This is only for 1 single slide! All the rest work!! When I preview in the program the boxes show up and work perfectly but they don't show up in the published doc. I have duplicated slides and rerecorded that specific slide and nothing works. Any theories??
    Please help!

    Hi there
The image isn't crystal clear, but it would appear the top element is a Click Box configured to pause the slide at 1.5 seconds? Again it's difficult to see because it's not exactly clear, but it would also appear that your highlight boxes aren't configured to present until about 6 seconds in. So in this case it would seem the Click Box is pausing the slide too soon. Try adjusting the timing of the Click Box.

  • Create new highlight box style in Captivate 7 Video Demo to use in multiple cpvc files

    Hi,
Is it possible to create and then save a new Highlight Box style that can be used in multiple projects, when editing video demos in Catpivate 7? I can Create a new style by saving, but when I open another .cpvc file it is not available and I can't find a way to reuse/import.
Any ideas? I'm sure I'm making a stupid mistake somewhere.

    Thanks Sreekanth,
For anyone else fairly new to Captivate (like me) I did this by saving the new style then File/Export/Styles the File/Import/Styles

  • Captivate 5.5 - Change default highlight box settings before recording

Hi, I'm trying to change the color of the default highlight box added to recordings. I need to change this at the global settings level and not project and before recording starts. Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

Hello and welcome to the forum,
Could you explain this 'at the global settings level and not project....'? What did you change? Normally you'll have to change the object style of the highlight box:
If you do this without opening the first CP-file, the style will be applied to all your new projects while recording.

  • Captivate 8, knowledge check radio buttons and check boxes not diplaying correctly in HTML5

Hello. I am working in Cp 8 on a pc (Win 7, 64-bit) and publishing in HTML5, SCORM 2004, 3rd ed. My issue is with knowledge checks. In preview they look fine, but when published, the radio buttons and check boxes are oversized and do not appear as they should. Additionally, the rollover highlight that covers the distracters is skewed and does not cover all the text in cases of long answer choices. When published as a SWF, there are no issues but project requirements are for HTML5 output only. Help?

Create an XML Schema (XSD) and define that as the default form schema. The form data will conforms to the order of fields defined in the XML schema.
    Hope that helps.

  • Moving a highlight box

I can create a highlight box, and set it to "Fill outer area."
Then I want to move the box using effects.  Unfortunately, the backgound stays the same size, so that when it is moved, gaps appear where the background has shifted away from the edges of the slide.
How can I make the background of the highlight area continue to cover the entire slide throughout the move?
    Help!  And thanks.

I had thought of adding a second box to mask the hole made by moving the highlight box, but it IS very fiddly.  Lining it up so that it doesn't overlap, and making sure both move as one.
Can you attach/link/group a highlight box and a regular box to move and act as a single entity?
I think I have found a workaround.  Using Photoshop, create a mask that is larger than the stage in Captivate.  Set its opacity to less-than 100%.  Cut a hole in the middle, then save it as a PSD.  This can be imported into Cap, and it maintains the transparency.  Stick a motion path onto that and you are in business.  Of course, getting the hole the right size is the tricky part, but it does work.
I shouldn't have said that, as it gives Adobe less incentive to fix it.  Oh well, for all those interested...

  • Zoom Area Doesnt Work with Highlight Boxes, Etc...

    Hi,
I recently upgraded to Captivate 6 from version 5. I've noticed the the Zoom Area does not work in the Preview Mode with video recordings or with Highlight Boxes. The area will zoom, but any actions that are happening behind the Zoom Area box will not show. The Hihglight Boxes will appear but will not exit. Is this a known bug? It makes the Zoom Area worthless.
    Any assistance is appreciated.
    PC Specs:
    Windows 7 (32 bit) - SP1
    Dell Optiplex 780
    Processor- Intel Duo E7500 @ 2.93 GHz/ 2.93Ghz
    4 GB RAM
    Thanks

Are you looking for Zoom Area to display the action you showcased while recording?
I thing it would zoom the static content from the stage that you plan to zoom.
Can you check the Highlight box properties and their palcement, do they not work standalone or in co-ordination with Zoom?

  • Highlight-Box "defaults" seem to have no effect

I've set default colors for the frame and "fill" of my
    highlight boxes.
But when I do an "insert highlight box" in a slide, Captivate
ignores my default settings, and uses its own defaults (blue).
I tried saving my project and restarting Captivate, after
saving my default preferences, but that didn't seem to make any
    difference.
Is there a way to force Captivate to pay attention to my
    designated Highlight Box colors?

    Hi Ernie
If I'm understanding you correctly, you have clicked Edit
    > Preferences... > Recording node > Defaults node
(Captivate 3) and have configured the colors there? Note that this
doesn't really set the defaults for Highlight Boxes you insert
manually. That governs the colors used when you are recording
Demonstrations and Captivate automagickally inserts them for you.
When you insert one of these beasties and change the colors,
it *should* remember that setting until you change it again. But
I've seen first hand where that frequently is not the case. You
could try using the "Apply to all" setting after changing one.

  • Phantom Highlight Boxes in .swf published file

I am seeing ever increasing numbers of "phantom" highlight boxes in the published versions of my Captivate 4 files.  I'm publishing as .swf files.  I can't see any of the offending highlight boxes in either the "preview" or the "edit" views of the slides.  When I publish- by the time the last slide appears it is displaying every single highlight box that appeared in any of the slides.
None of my highlight boxes are set to appear "to the end of the project".
Like I said- I don't see the offending highlight boxes in edit or preview modes at all- it's only when I go to publish.
I have turned off "Advanced compression" and that did not help.
I tried clearing all of my computer history and cache, restarting, and recapturing the slides altogether.  Nothing seems to work.  Help!

    Hi there
Are you able to share the project so we might examine it first hand?
If so, upload it to a service such as YouSendIt.com or Acrobat.com and provide a link.

  • Text find and Highlight

I have a textbox that I am loading text from instructionsArray that gets data from a XML file.  I want to search that textbox for a word that might be in the dictionaryArray that gets data from and XML file. Then I want the word if its there to be higlighted in red and be able to rollover  or click the word to get a popup that shows the words definition that is also in the dictionaryArray.    SO the code for all of this as I have it so far builds a rectangle backgournd and addes the textbox to it. The MA is a variable that tells what set of instuctions it is on (1, 2, etc).  Everything works except the search and highlight. Is this better?

And here is a "workable solution" - an example of how to deal with it.
This class creates roll overs and tooltips for the search term.
A lot of this code is based on what we discussed before - nothing really new.
Just place this class in to FLA directory and make this class a Document Class in Flash IDE. I don't like Flash IDE and coding on the timeline - so it is up to you to translate it into  timeline code. Some aspects are commented in the code.

  • JComboBox selection and highlight problem of the selected item

    Hi,
I have a question how can I make my newly added item to the combo-box selectable and highlighted. I am adding new items to my custom comboBox dynamically and I want whatever item I add to be selected by default. I am using my own custom ComboBoxModel that extends AbstractListModel and implements ComboBoxModel and TreeModelListener, and my custom Renderer that extends JLabel and implements ListCellRenderer. Because I am trying to get a tree structure in my comboBox model and that's why I have my own custom model and renderer. Now when I add a new node or item to my comboBox it is being added and shown in the combo-box textField, but as soon I pull down the combo-box my parent directory is selected though my current selection is the last node added. That's how I am adding new nodes and making it selectable
    treeModel.insertNodeInto(tempNode, (DefaultMutableTreeNode)nodeCollection.lastElement(), 0);
    int nodeTotal =((CMRGlobals.myTreeGlobals).getModel()).getSize();
    Object lastNode = CMRGlobals.myTreeGlobals).getModel()).getElementAt(nodeTotal - 1);
    ((CMRGlobals.myTreeGlobals).getModel()).setSelectedItem(lastNode);
when I do this my node is added under my parentNode and is shown in the comboBox but when I try to pull down the combo my parent node is high lighted and when I move out of the combo-box my parent node gets selected and show in the combo-box though I haven't selected it,and the contents of my last node are shown. I am just writing my own custom model that simulates the effect of JTree. I am using these......
    DefaultMutableTreeNode and
    DefaultTreeModel
and in my JComboBox I am setting my model as
    this.setModel(new myModel(treemodel));
    this.setRenderer(new myRenderer());
I am building my own FileDialog that just works like FileDialog I have all the functionality except this problem. Thanks for any help. I know I have posted this same thread yesterday but I didn't get any response hoping now may somebody can help me.Thanks again

    never mind I got it
    Thanks
