Captivate 4--Anyone have approximate dates?
I would like to know if anyone has heard about an approximate
release date for
Captivate 4 and what enhancements it is likely to contain.
What I have been able to discern from a trail copy of Captivate 3
is that it does not contain a few features I need such as "Zoom and
Pan." The addition of this to its fourth iteration would prompt me
to take a serious look at purchasing Captivate.

According to my records, Captivate 3 was announced by Adobe
on July 23, 2007. The trial became available about a week later.
July 30, 2007.
To my knowledge, no new version is imminent. I'd be totally
surprised if Adobe were to make any announcement about a new
version this month. Probably would be best to keep an eye on Silke
Fleischer's blog. I'm pretty sure that any news will likely appear
there before most other venues.

I cant seem to download and install the latest iphone software update. I have tried since the release and have been unsuccessful on more than 7 occasions and lost all the data on the process. Anyone have that problem an how do I fix this problem?

Thanks but I have tried doing the above - when I said 7 times I was modest, its more like 15 times.
And I am referring to the 5.1 software update. I dont have wifi so I guess I will have to try that seeing that my husband also has the same problem - he has also tried downloading several times. It always times out en says that the connection is lost but yet there are always an internet connection and a decent signal once it stopped. Think it said error 32052 or something!
I am disappointed because the update includes inprovement on the battery life - did you guys notice any difference? -
Hello, does anyone have any advice on how to sort photos in an albumn on an Iphone by date of photo? I've ordered them all in my Pictures but then when I sync them across through Itunes, they all end up in a jumble on my phone. Thanks!
When viewing an album on the iPhone you can tap "Photos" at the bottom and that will show all photos by date. Unfortunately though it is all photos, not just the album you are currently viewing.
What I have done is the following. On the computer I have a main folder (e.g. iPhone photos) and then make sub-folders within that. Placing photos that will be synched to the iPhone into various subfolders gives quite a bit of organizational capablility. In iTunes when you select the main folder to sync, the sub-folders will show on the iPhone as separate albums. Beyond that, in one case where I really wanted a specific sort within an album I renamed the photos on the computer (something like A-picxxx, B-picxxx) so they sorted on the computer alphabetically in the order I want on the phone. That sort order was maintained after the sync.
Note that each time you sync using iTunes, the non-Camera Roll pictures on the phone will be set to match the current iTunes settings/photos -- so you can experiment. -

I have an old Macintosh LC that recently went down. I am located in the Portsmouth, NH area.
Anyone know where I can get this repaired or have the data transferred??How much $$ do you care to spend to transfer the data on the LC's 40 or 80 MB hard drive? The original LC is now 21 years-old and has little if any market value (I know - I have an LC I and an LC III), so professional repair will easily exceed that. It's considered "obsolete" by Apple's authorized repair shops, so parts are not available. Was it starting up normally before it stopped working, and if so, were the date & time always correct after it had been disconnected from an electrical outlet? If not and if startups have been hit or miss for a while, your LC undoubtedly needs a new PRAM battery installed. It's a 3.6-volt ½AA lithium battery and is installed in a black plastic holder w/retainer cover clipped over it on the LC's motherboard. The battery can be purchased at battery specialty retailers for about $8 or less, as well as from a number of online merchants. If you don't mind paying 2-3 times the value of the battery, Radio Shack carries it. If you need directions for installing the battery, post back. It's the least expensive thing to try and a new battery has brought many a dead Mac back from the dead. As for the internal hard drive, it could be removed and installed in a slightly newer, pre-G3 Power Mac having an internal SCSI bus. If there are any thrift stores in your area, you might find a suitable Mac for this purpose. This would involve removal of the hard drive from the LC and installation in the newer Mac, with a slight change in the LC's SCSI address jumper placement. Once installed in the newer Mac, the files could be copied. If this is more challenging than you planned on, you might check your area for a Mac User Group, where you might be able to take your LC and have someone transfer the files for you. After the files have been transferred to another medium, you may have problems trying to open them on a newer Mac running a newer OS version than the LC's (System 7.0, 7.1, 7.5.x, or 7.6), if the programs aren't compatible.

I have 4s. After I updated ios7.0.3 my wifi is geyed out. I expected after ios7.0.4 update wifi will work again, but does not. It annoying, because I have to use my data... Does anyone know when it will be fixed or does anyone have the same problem?
I have the same problem. After the upgrade, my wifi is greyed out, and the battery won't hold a charge long. I reset all the settings, tried all the things suggested by Apple, but it didn't work. I took the phone to Verizon, but they said they can't fix it, go to Apple
I made an appointment at the Genius bar, where the staff was incredibly rude and dismissive. A representative told me that the wi-fi is broken and I would need to buy a new phone for $200, because mine is out of warranty. I'm due for an upgrade in a few months, so I'm not going to pay $200 for another 4S now. I'm also not going to buy any more Apple products. Their upgrade caused this problem, and they are not standing behind their producet. -
Can anyone help me keep wifi off on my S5? Since the last update my wifi keeps turning on without input from me. I have unlimited data and don't use the wifi much to extend the battery but this is killing it now.
Help is here to resolve this issue with your wifi connection 88DaveS. Lets try disabling your "Smart Network Switch". Select Settings> Wifi. The 'smart network switch' is in the advanced settings. Locate the Menu icon in the upper right hand corner > Tap Menu > Tap Advanced > Locate and ensure the check box is Unchecked next to Smart network switch. Let us know if this helps.

Try charging the ipod touch on a wall charger and make sure the outlet is working. And leave it there for 10 minutes.

From everything I read the usage of SECUREFILE LOBs over BASICFILE LOBs appears to be a nobrainer.

Yet the default table creation remains set to create BASICFILE LOBs so my 11g spatial data is still sitting in BASICFILE LOBs (also I need to push it to and from 10g for the moment).
Should we all be changing over to SECUREFILE LOB storage as a matter of course on 11g? Is there a big payoff for VARRAY storage beyond compression? A little payoff?
Oracle says SECUREFILE LOBs "dramatically improve performance". Hey, I want some of that!

Pro Oracle Spatial mentions weakly on page 250 that
"Secure File LOBs are expected to be faster than BASIC LOBs".
but seems to only be referring to the spatial index.

For those of us using ArcSDE, its pretty easy to add the SECUREFILE LOB keyword to the dbtune keyword that governs creation of the spatial column. But not a peep on the topic from the ESRI folks that I can find.
Anyone have any experiences or opinions to share? I am hoping to finally leave 10g behind one day this year and putting together a migration plan. Should converting the LOBs be a first day bullet item or just something to consider sometime down the road?

PaulI have been writing on the benefits of rounding ordinates on storage and performance.
That series has not yet been finished and fully published but my main finding (backed by stats/graphs) is that rounding ordinates does have an effect on performance as average coordinates per feature increases.
As part of the work I also looked at SECUREFILE LOB storage in the hope that some sort of zlib/rle etc compression of the sdo_ordinates would substantially reduce storage size and thus increase performance.
The reason I looked at this is because a customer has migrated from SDEBINARY to SDO_GEOMETRY (though most others are going from SDEBINARY to SDE.ST_GEOMETRY) and saw a substantial increase in storage costs. They also have taken a performance hit in some aspects of their operations but that may be due to ArcSDE programmer SDO_GEOMETRY access issues rather than any real issues with Oracle performance (though the perception is very much that Oracle is to blame). SDEBINARY was always a compressed storage format and with SDE.ST_GEOMETRY being WKB (of some description) also has a low storage footprint.
The result of my work on LOB storage, though not published, is that I agree with Paul: there is little benefit for a lot of pain.
However, I do still the whole question of storage size as being an area of benefit if reductions could be made as this is a necessary precursor for spatial being able to reap benefits if column-oriented storage ever migrates down to standard Oracle database.

Ever since iCloud went live, I cannot add any spouse, child etc... info to the address book. Anyone have an idea how to get this back. I tried to reset the template, looks like it has been removed. I also de-selected the iCloud and selected on my local Mac in the accounts area in preferences. Still no luck. My address book entries prior to iCloud still have all the data and I'm able to modifiy if desired. Any ideas??
I copied this from an extremely knowledgable iTunes for Windows user in another discussion. Maybe this will help.
In Windows, you can restore much of the look & feel of iTunes 10.7 with these shortcuts:
ALT to temporarily display the menu bar
CTRL+B to show or hide the menu bar
CTRL+S to show or hide the sidebar
CTRL+/ to show or hide the status bar (won't hide for me on Win XP)
Click the magnifying glass top right and untick Search Entire Library to restore the old search behaviour
Use View > Hide <Media Kind> in the cloud or Edit (iTunes) > Preferences > Store anduntick Show iTunes in the cloud purchases to hide the cloud items. The second method eliminates the cloud status column (and may let iTunes start up more quickly)
If you don't like having different coloured background & text in the Album (Grid) view use Edit(iTunes) > Preferences > General and untick Use custom colours for open albums, movies, etc.
With iTunes 11.0.3 you can enable artwork in the Songs and playlist views from View > Show View Options (CTRL+J) making it more like the old Album List view.
If you are a Mac user, all you have to do is start navigating through the menu items at the top of the screen to find just about everything that is mentioned here. -

Hello, Does anyone have problems with data usage or non usage I should say with Iphone 5 and AT&T?
After 4+ months of dealing with this data usage and battery drain problem that included 3 data captures of my wife's iMac, the trigger for us regarding the problems syncing with iCloud, and 5 hours of logs off my iPhone 6 to be analyzed by Apple engineers that included times my wife's computer was both on and off to demonstrate the difference in data usage and battery drain under those conditions, I can say with very reasonable certainty that the iOS 8.3 and corresponding Mac OS 10.10.3 update has solved the problem.
We have now been running for about 2 weeks and data usage with the iCloud Servers attempting to sync has dropped from a rate of 31 GBs to under 15 MBs per month. Yes, you read it right. We were burning 2000 times as much data doing absolutely nothing important on both of our phones, a 5s and a 6. Just imagine what that does to battery life! The 5s would last about 5 hours and the 6 was dead in less than 14.
The distasteful aspect of this process was how the engineers were quietly fixing the problem at the same time sending messages to my contact person within Apple that were dismissive in nature in the face of indisputable unreasonable results. I must say, this experience with the multiple times the engineers' responses were inappropriate put a little tarnish on the old Apple shine of the ‘It just works’ mantra. This was my first experience in 34 years that caused me to stop recommending Apple products without reservations and with a disclaimer.
Since the update solved the problem, then I can only conclude that there was a logic bug regarding the reaction within the process to the incoming data that was corrected. There was noting short of logging out of iCloud that circumvented the problem for us, Gator5000e and probably many others noted on other threads. I am not trying to imply that this is the cause of everyones battery use problem, but it is reasonable that it was a cause for many. -
My MacBook Pro (2010) is runnign very slow. This came on all of a sudden. It opens, closes, reboots, etc., all much slower than ever before. I have used the repair disk permissions without any positive result. Does anyone have any ideas?
First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
Take these steps when you notice the problem.
Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
Next, select the Disk Activity tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in and Writes out.)
Step 2
You must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way as above. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Post the 50 or so most recent messages in the log — the text, please, not a screenshot.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into a message.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out before posting. -
Does anyone have a suggestion for an alternative to iCal that will interface with the Cloud so it works on the iPhone and the Macbook? I find iCal to be poorly designed and not very efficient. I waste a lot of time entering information because you can't go to a specific day and enter information, nor can you navigate between months and add information on a specific date by clicking on the date. You can't easily scroll month-to-month and once you do by scrolling through nine months to get to where you want to be, you cannot enter information by clicking on a specific day in the month and entering information. I just called Apple and they verified that this is the way it works. You cannot go to a date and enter information, you keep getting thrown back to today and then you have to go into the calendar and change it manually on the screen. It is just not efficient.
