Captivate 4 Arbitrarily Changing Quiz Question Values?

I've got a client who uses Captivate 4, and she's having a problem with quiz score values.  She has 12 separate assessments, each with either 10, 15, or 25 questions, and she's very sure she has consistent question values in each so that each quiz adds up to 100 points.
Other users have opend the .cp movies and found the quizzes don't add up. Some vary as much as 10 points.  When she opens the files, they're at 100 points.  I opened one in Cap 5.5 and found that the value of two questions changed.
Any ideas on what's going on?  I do remember that another client a few years ago was having scoring fits with Cap 3 along these same lines.  I don't know if he ever found a solution.
Thanks.

Were any of these quiz questions originally created in an earlier version of Captivate and then upgraded?
Is this client using Report as SCORE instead of Report as PERCENTAGE in Quiz Settings?
If using SCORE, and you always need to have the questions add up to 100 for everything to work, I would suggest you try using Percentage instead.  It's usually easier to work with.

  • How do you change quiz questions to look like your PowerPoint template without doing it manually on

We have a customized PowerPoint template with our branding colors and font applied. We need the Presenter quiz questions to have the same customized look. We need the questions to appear differently than the default, and we need our branding colors applied. I have been searching in Google, have read the Adobe Presenter 9 user manual, and cannot figure out if we can do this without applying the changes manually on each quiz question written. Is there a place in Presenter where we can customize the entire quiz question page? If so, where and how can you accomplish this?

I know it's an old thread, but Rob did do a good job of explaining how to setup a master slide for your Quizzes. Not sure that all steps still apply, but you get the general idea.

  • Is there a way I can randomize quiz questions in Adobe Captivate 6 on multiple attempts?

I am trying to find a way in Captivate 6 to randomize quiz questions out of a pool (i.e.; 50 random questions slides are linked to a pool containing 63 questions, I want to allow for 3 attempts).  Things work great witht he first attempt, but Captivate 6 is not generating new questions when I click the Retake Quiz button after failing the first attempt.  Captivate 6 simply gives the exact same 50 questions as the first attempt in the exact same order.  Is there any way around this issue in Captivate 6?  Thank you in advance for any suggestions you have!

Rod, just thinking out loud, and maybe this is too complex...
Could (generic) you insert multiple random-question-slides and then control which slide is viewed based on how many quiz attemps have been made?
    That is..
    Slide 1 - question 1a
    Slide 2 - question 1b
    Slide 3 - question 1c
On first attempt, go to slide 1, skip slide 2 and 3.  On second attempt, skip slide 1, go to slide 2, skip slide 3.  On third attempt, skip slides 1 and 2, go to slide 3.
Could you use the cpQuizInfoAttempts variable to control the slide order with an advanced action?

  • Last quiz question just freezes

A colleague of mine made a Captivate movie with three quiz
questions. They are designed so that the user is allowed one
attempt at each question, and if the user gets the question wrong,
they are taken to the slide previous to the question slide so that
they can review. The problem occurs on the third question. When the
user gets it wrong, it does go back to the previous slide, but then
when the user clicks the Next button to go back to the question
slide, the question cannot be resubmitted. I've adjusted the number
of attempts, the scoring, the backward movement, the pass/fail,
etc., and I have no idea why that one question slide is being such
    a pain.
I realize it has something to do with it being the last
slide, because when I move it up to an earlier slide, it doesn't
have the same problem, but the colleague wants the slides in this
    order.

    Hi Lira,
Okay... gotcha. Usually when you have a quiz in a captivate
movie - you cannot retake a quiz just by navigating back to it. In
order to retake it - the movie would need to be reopened. I just
created a quick sample to try it out myself - and was able to
retake the quiz on the 2nd slide (I think because it is relaunching
the movie by going back to the first slide.) When I get to the 4th
slide - and get the quiz wrong - I go back to the 3rd slide - then
when I get to the 4th slide again, I cannot retake the quiz. I am
able to still navigate forward, because I set the option 'allow
user to review quiz' in the Quiz Manager. This will display the
'Next' button when I go back to a quiz question. You can then
remove the 'Review Area' that displays, if you don't want them to
have review information. I can explain this further if you need me
to. I can't think of a solution to be able to have them retake the
quiz - without relaunching the movie. I'm stumped. If I think of
    something - I'll post.

  • Captivate 5: Quiz question timing

I created two quiz questions that have voice-over.  When the trainee answers the question and presses "y" or clicks anywhere, the module does not advance to the next screen.  It stays on the question slide for 41.9 seconds.  I tried to change the slide timing, but it just keeps reverting back to 41.9.  Does anyone know how I can change the timing or make the click/press work?

Good question.  The voice-over is 26 seconds long.
I just tried making two slides:  One with the voice over and one with just the question.  The question slide is still 41.9 seconds.  I'm beginning to think the time is tied to the length of the explanation when it is answered incorrectly.
I remember in previous versions of Captivate, the programmer had control over what happens when the trainee clicks the screen or types a letter.  I don't see that interaction anymore.

  • Captivate 6 - Published - PDF does not play quiz questions

I just published my captivate 6 presentation.  I am launching the .pdf file to view.  At the end, the quiz questions do not work.  I get a white screen and not my questions.  Any ideas?  Thanks

Below is a screen shot of the published settings.  The whole training presentation plays as expected.  Then when it gets to the quiz questions I get a white screen and nothing happens.
After I publish, I go to the zip file and run the pdf version.
This is for someone to view the training outside of our LMS system.

  • Quiz questions will not retain format when question is changed.

OK forum folks. I'm working on my first e-learning project and have ran into a problem with question formating. The instructions/help basically tell you to click here and click there. I can easily figure that out. The questions I seem to have are quite a bit deeper.
I have a predefined template which is company approved. I have created master slides in the question pool for both a 4 item match and a 5 item match (I have found if I add a line to the 4 matching line quiz the line spacing and formatting changes). The placeholder questions are essentially non-questions.
I duplicate the master slide in the question pool to maintain the original format (spacing, location, etc.).
I change the placeholder questions on the duplicated slide to the real question (slide is still in the slide pool)
The formatting (font, spacing, locations, etc.) change on the new (edited) questions and require reformatting.I have also tried copying the master question slide to the filmstrip and editing the copied slide questions in the filmstrip. I receive the same results.
Is there are way I can create masters in the current format so I can use the approved templates, edit the questions and not have to reformat the slide after the questions have been changed?
Also, is there a way to lock the formatting of the questions? If I want to add/delete a new question or line to the slide, it would be great to be able to not have to reformat the slide for the change.
I look forward to your answers.
    Thank you.

I am trying to deal with the same issue. The master slides are more about background elements and navigation buttons, but they do not seem to allow for the addition of quiz elements.
I have come up with a workaround that I hope will work. What I am doing is creating a new project that becomes my quiz question layout library (Let's call this Project 2). In this project I add the various types of questions I will be using in my project (multiple choice with three choices, multiple choice with five, true/false, etc...). I get all the quiz elements in place for each type of question (the header, question, submit/clear buttons, review area, etc...).
These slides serve as my Master slides for my actual project (Project 1). I can copy and paste the appropriate layout from Project 2 to Project 1 and then change the questions themselves.
I am sure I will find out the downside of this soon enough...
There is no doubt the creation of masters for quiz questions needs work, actually it needs just to exist!

  • Quiz questions in Captivate 7

I'm fairly new to Captivate, but well-versed with other Adobe products.
I'm working on quiz questions in Captivate 7, but maybe (hopefully?) I'm doing it all wrong. Outlined below:
Need questions sprinkled throughout the module, we call them "Check Your Understanding." For now, true/false, multiple choice, etc. Will eventually include rollovers, etc.
Currently, I have a multiple choice question. Slide begins with a header caption created with two shapes and a text caption with "Check Your Understanding." Would like that entire group to fly in from the left for seven seconds. When I preview the slide, half of the group is visible, but unmoving unless I hit Play. I thought it should play automatically?
Second, when the question is submitted, even if the question is wrong, it just advances to the next slide. I need to require a correct answer before moving on OR the correct answer to show, and maybe a reason why. I can't get any of that to work.
I don't have a need for the results/review slide to show at the end, but is that inhibiting the result from displaying on the slide itself?
    Thank you!

Hello and welcome to the forum,
Is this a default question slide or a custom question slide created using standard objects and advanced actions? If it is a default MCQ be careful not to delete objects that are normally available on the master slide for that question, you can make them invisible but deleting (with the exception of some buttons) could lead to weird results. You are using an effect I suppose for the group? Look at the timeline (or better post a screenshot of the timeline): for a default question slide there will be a pausing point (used by the two-step process of that question slide: http://blog.lilybiri.com/question-question-slides-in-captivate) and I suspect that this pause is interrupting your fly-in effect.
Read the blog post about the behavior of question slides please. And it is a good practice not to have the playbar available for question slides. Another intuition tells me that by hitting Play you forced the playhead to pass over the pausing point, in the inactive part of the slide and that is why the playhead continues after submitting.

  • Is there a way to do a spelling quiz in captivate using images and not questions as reference.

Is there a way to do a spelling quiz in captivate using images and not questions as reference. Specifically i want have blank lines underneath an image, where the user looks at the image and types the correct letters to fill in the blank. For example a picture of a dog, with this _ _ _ underneath for the user to fill in, or in some cases perhaps having them fill in the vowel like so "d_g".I must have audio with this , as the students will be able to listen to the audio sound out the word phonetially to help them be able to type it!
    Appreciate any advice! Cheers!

    Hello everybody!
This widget is great!! Thank you for that!!
I searched for something like that earlier and made an other workaround:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/1912430#1912430
The Javascript did not work in my test. I brought to the "if you reach this slide" feature but it failed.

  • Audio on last slide after quiz questions not playing

    Captivate v5.5
I have a project with a question pool and a series of random questions
The random question slides are without audio.
After finishing the question pool the project closes with the final slide which does have some audio - which runs fine when I test the slide.
However when I test the whole project (F12) the audio on the last slide does not play.
The audio on the slides prior to the random question slides plays without any problem.
    Any ideas please?

    Anjaneai,
Thanks for the suggestion. But changing the question setting to infinite attempts will just allow the user to retry each question over and over until they get it correct. I want to give them one chance to answer each question for the entire quiz. Then, if they don't pass, they can try the entire quiz again.
I ended up finding a resolution, though. Based on one of the suggestions from this blog, I just shortened my slide time for each question to .5 sec (it was originally 3 sec). That seemed to do the trick!

  • How to reveal correct answer in a quiz question

    Hello,
    I am using Captivate 5.5.
Is there a way to allow the user to view the correct answer to a quiz question without having to keep clicking on the different options until they select the right one? I want to allow infinite attempts but equally, if they are in a hurry or just run out of patience, I want the user to see what the actual answer is straight away. Our learners are medics and they often have limited time.
So the sequence could be something like this.
    1. User enters question page.
    2. Selects one answer. It is incorrect and retry message appears.
    3. User selects another answer. It is incorrect and retry message appears
    4. User decides that he/she wants to see the correct answer before moving on. Selects 'reveal answer' and is able to see what the correct answer is.
    5. User moves onto next slide (this could be another quiz question or any other type of slide
In another package I have been using, we can specify a 'reveal correct answer' button which shows the correct answer straight away. Is there something like that in Captivate?
    Thanks....

I think what you mean is that the quiz question's Failure action doesn't trigger until the final attempt and that would never happen if attempts is set to Infinite.  So if you were only incrementing the variable when the quiz question registered final failure then you'd only get one crack at incrementing the variable. yes.  My bad.
However, if you are using Multiple Choice questions, you can also trigger actions using the Advanced Answer Option.  This will trigger an action when a particular answer is selected.  So if you set this for each incorrect answer, you could increment the variable each time they select the wrong answer.
You can also use this same Advanced Answer action to execute a conditional action that first checks the value of the variable and then shows the rollover caption or increments the variable as needed.
Say you create a variable called WrongAnswer and initialise it with a value of 0.  Then you create a Conditional Action called CheckWrongAnswer that looks like this:
If WrongAnswer is equal to 1 assign Wrong Answer with 2, (then on the next line) Show RolloverCaption, ELSE assign Wrong Answer with 1.
This shows the rollover caption after the second attempt resulting in an incorrect answer.

  • Quiz Question

I have a quiz question with multiple correct answers.  Do I have to create an "Incorrect Answer" on all of the various combinations that are not correct. Or can I have one "Not Correct" that affects all of the wrong answers?

Please, don't post your credentials like phone number on a public forum.
Do you want to change the Failure Caption just for this question slide? Double-click on it or use F2 and you will able to edit the text.
Could you please mention the version of Captivate you are using, Lisa?  Some features are different depending on the version.

  • Backwards Navigation When Reviewing Quiz Questions

I have discovered from some students that they can cheat on my quiz. They take the quiz, review their answers and make note of the correct answers, then either drag the navigation slider backwards or click the Back button to return to the beginning of the quiz. This resets their original answers and allows them to retake the quiz with the answers they took from their notes.
The quiz is set up to allow multiple attempts, but I assume they should be starting over with each attempt. My quiz questions are randomized from a test pool, so hopefully they do not see the same questions again and not in the same order. However, by cheating in this way, they can take the same questions in the same order.
Is there anyway to limit backwards movement when reviewing the quiz?
I have turned off backwards movement while they are taking the quiz, but this setting is turned off when they start reviewing the quiz.
    I am using Captivate 5.

Thanks for the information. Yes I have set the quiz up to allow users to review their answers. Yes I assume they will take notes on the answers, but I have not enabled the Retake Quiz button. Once they get to the results page and choose to review their answers, I assumed (incorrectly) that their answers would be locked and they would not be able to change the answers or results for their attempt.
My instructions tell them to relaunch the training, go through it again, and then take the quiz again. With the questions and answers being randomized, I was hoping that their notes (question 1 answer is B - question 2 answer is C - etc.) would not be very helpful to them and they would put effort into taking notes from the training to help them on the test instead.
    You said the following:
"If a user clicks the Review Quiz button after any attempt, they will be unable to perform a new attempt on that quiz until they relaunch the lesson again.  Also, if the user jumps outside the Quiz Scope by navigating back to any slide before the first scored object or quiz question, they will be unable to reattempt the quiz until relaunch."
I have tested this out, launching the training from the LMS, and it is not correct. I can go through the quiz, review my results, drag the slider or click the back button to the beginning of the quiz, and take the quiz again.
I have disabled backwards movement during the quiz, but once you start reviewing a quiz, backwards movement is once again enabled via the slider or back button.
I can hide the playbar and navigation controls, but when you get to the review, the navigation controls remain hidden and you cannot advance through the questions to see the results. I thought of adding a separate Forward button on the quiz question slides to allow the user to go forward as they review the slides, but you cannot add buttons or clickboxes to question slides.
I could certainly turn off the review functionality, but I think it is valuable information to the student. I need to allow them to retake the quiz, as my boss has set a very high bar (100% passing score) on the quiz.
Does anyone have any other ideas?
By the way, after typing up this response, I started doing some playing around, and I figured out a fix. I turn off the navigation controls before the quiz and enable the Skip button on each question slide. With the navigation off, the user can answer the questions and click Submit. Then when reviewing the answers, they can navigate forward by clicking Skip. They can no longer navigate backwards through the quiz and training material.

  • Captivate not resuming after quiz complete just getting the loading screen

    Hi Everyone.
I am using captivate 5 and have created a 60 slide project. The project contains 8 quiz questions and is published as scorm 1.2. The project is delivered using moodle 2.02. The problem is this. When the project is first launched it loads and plays correctly. If the student exits before the quiz is complete and then comes back to it later the project resumes correctly, The problem occurs where the student exits the project after the quiz is complete. If after this point the student tries to re-launch the project later, the project launches but gets stuck at the gray loading screen. I have installed the latest hotfixes and the problem seems to occur on all browsers.
Any ideas would be gratefully appreciated.
    regards
    J

OK.  I've not struck this issue before with Moodle, but that may be due to using earlier versions of Moodle.
Here are a couple of things to try:
Try setting more grading attempts in Moodle and not make any changes to the Captivate lesson itself.  If this now allows the user to open the module again, you know where the issue is.
If changing the attempts in Moodle has no effect, try changing the Required settings in the Captivate module Quiz > Settings.  Set it so that the user can skip the quiz if they want.  That's the least restrictive setting.  If that now allows the user to progress again, this setting may be your issue.

  • Multiple quiz questions

Does anyone know a quick way of putting more than one quiz
    question on a single slide?

    Hi Ailse,
Your idea of using masks is a good one. You're thinking like
    a true Captivate expert!
You could also try taking a screenshot of the questions on
each slide, cropping them to show only the interesting parts, then
inserting those images on your Question slides so it looks like the
other questions are all present on a single slide.
Only the actual Captivate question would be "live" on a given
slide and your images wouldn't reflect what the user answered on
previous slides, but it should be fairly convincing, especially
    given the circumstances.
If you want to go all out, temporarily change the font color
of each question to gray before taking your screenshot, and the
questions will appear "disabled" when you import them into
Captivate. This would give the user a reason why the "non-live"
questions are not working on a given slide.
    Regards,
    John
