Captivate 4 can't publish or preview files/sound layers appear black

After re-installing Captivate 4, I was unable to preview or publish files.  Additionally, my sound layers appeared as black, empty layers.
I had a difficult time finding a solution, so I wanted to post it here in case somebody else has the same problem.
I was indicating in my searches that I was unable to publish or preview files in C4 and could not find a solution, then I switched the focus of my searches to the audio layers and that's when I found a solution at: http://blogs.adobe.com/captivate/2009/03/adobe_captivate_4_installation.html
Now, I have to say this for anyone who may not be aware.  You should always back up your registry anytime you make changes to it and that changes to the registry can cause problems.  Having said that, here is the fix I used:.
Adobe Captivate 4 Installation Issues on Microsoft Windows XP
You can use SubInAcl tool from Microsoft to try fixing the permission issues in the Windows Registry.
Close all instances of Adobe Captivate and do the following steps -
1) Download the SubInAcl tool from Microsoft Download Center and install it.
2) Download this zip file
3) Extract the zip file in a temporary folder. You will get two files - restoreRegPermCP4.bat, restoreCP4regentries.bat
4) Copy the restoreRegPermCP4.bat to the folder which has SubInAcl.exe installed. Typically this would be at C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools\.
5) Double click to run the restoreRegPermCP4.bat file.
6) Copy the restoreCP4regentries.bat to the folder in which Captivate 4 is installed. Typically it is at C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate 4
7) Open command prompt and navigate to that folder.
8) Type restoreCP4regentries.bat and press enter.
9) Make sure that all the messages that popup say "DllRegisterServer in 'some dll name' Succeeded"
This should have fixed the registry issues and things should work fine.
I hope this saves someone hours of searching for a solution.

So glad it helped you!  I know what you mean about Adobe.
Take Care!

tannia: Thanks for your post. I have been struggling with this issue for
over a year. I have a serious love/hate relationship with Adobe. If it
weren't for folks like you, I'd swear off any and everything they make.

I have the latest downloadable version of LR5.  It crashed while it was createing 1:1 previews during an import. After a Win7(64) restart, it shows a message that LR needs to quit because it can't read the preview files and it will try to fix it the next time is launches.  I get the same message the next and every subsequent time it launches so I can't launch LR at all now.
I get that the preview file got corrupted somehow.  Is there some way to fix this problem without building a new catalog?

Use Windows Explorer to open the folder containing your catalog. You will see a folder with the extension .lrdata. You need to delete that folder and then start Lightroom again. Lightroom will generate a new previews folder.

  • How can I publish an ics file to a remote server from my calendar server?

I am running Lion Server and have Calendar Service up and running. I have an account with a couple of calendars, one of which I'd like to publish to a remote server, as an .ics file.
From an iCal client it is possible to publish local calendars, but not remote calendars (for which the only option seems to be to 'Share').
How can I can I publish an ics file to a remote server? Programatically, if necessary.

    I have this working now.
    curl -s --digest -u username:password -o calendar.ics http://hostname:8008/calendars/users/username/calendar/
generates the .ics file, and a combination of cadaver (from webdav.org) and an expect script upload hourly (via cron) to the remote server:
    set timeout 60
    spawn /usr/local/bin/cadaver
    expect "dav"
    send "open https://remotehost/path/\r"
expect "Do you wish to accept the certificate? (y/n)"
    send "y\r"
    expect "dav"
    send "put calendar.ics\r"
    expect "dav"
    send "close\r"
    expect "dav"
    send "quit\r"

DPS will not do what you want and neither with anything else without at
    least some work.
HTML out of InDesign is for content only, not layout. There is a new
product out there you can try, however:

  • Can't publish or "put" files to remote server

    Dear All,
I can't publish my website to the remote server, even though everything seems to be working properly with connection to the remote server.  No error messages and the successful connection message appears.  I have emptied out the Safari cache but still do not see the updates appearing on the website.  I'm working with Dreamweaver CS5.5 on a Mac Pro with Snow Leopard 10.6.8.  Very frustrating.

  • Can I get my preview files back?

Just moved all my source footage to a new hard disk but kept all the project, auto save and previews on the original disk. I had manually changed the path to the new footage by editing the project file in a text editor and replacing all instances with the new path. Yet when I now open the project everything is fine except no previews. Does Premiere tie the previews to the complete physical path of the source footage or something? Will take forever to re-render everything.
    Cheers.

Thanks. They're not missing, they are all in the preview folder under the name of the project which I left on the original hard drive. The only thing I moved was all of my footage to a different drive. If I look in the preview folder I see all the files yet when I open the project a long red line instead of green.
I wonder if this is due to my source files being RED R3D files? I did notice that after I changed the drive path to point to the new drive when I opened the project in the bottom right corner a status bar was updating with "Conforming xxxx footage" or something of that nature. I wonder if for RED it stores additional information regarding these files that are then uniquely identified by the preview file or something... food for thought.

  • How can I open a psd file with layers in touch?

I want to edit a psd file with layers in photoshop touch. Is this possible?

No. (Kind of, sort of.) You can export PS Touch projects for import into desktop Photoshop and have the layers intact for further editing but you cannot do the reverse; any imported PSD will be automatically flattened. (I'm guessing this was done to prevent crashing. PS Touch supports 12 layers max vs. the potential thousands available in desktop Photoshop.)

  • Can't Publish Due to File Size

I'm using Captivate 4. I need to create a video demonstration using my iPad. I'm currently utilizing a screen sharing app to mirror my iPad screen on my laptop. Using this, I created a 6 minute demonstration with audio and text boxes. The file was broken into 21 slides and is huge! About 320,000 KB. What can I do to size this recroding down so that I can publish it? I've tried recording using the full motion option at 16 bit and lower resolution. Is there anything else I should be doing? I need to create about 8 videos all ranging from 5-13 minutes in length.

My initial large recording was a total of 21 slides at 364,145.6KB with a resolution of 894 x 671. I'm using a PC with Microsoft Windows XP. The laptop has 1.18 GHz and 1.96 GB of RAM. The initial error messsage reads:
"Your computer does not have sufficient memory resources to perform this operation. Do the following:
    - Check one or more options in the Extrenalize Resources list, and re-publish
    - Close otther applications open on your computer. You might have to close and reopen Adobe Captiavate."
I had no other applications open at the time. The initial recording was recorded at 32 bit. So I figured perhaps changing the Full Motion Recording settings to 16 bit with a smaller SWF size would help. Any other suggestions?

  • Captivate 6: Can't publish to MP4

    Hi everybody,
I need some help with publishing to MP4. Some information in advance: Captivate 6.0.0.199 (x64), Windows 7
I have added several video clips to a captivate project. When I publish to MP4, it seems to work: the Video Publisher pops up and does finish without an error message. But the resulting MP4 video has only about 40 kilobytes. The video itself seems to be valid, at least it can be opened with VLCplayer.  But the video only contains the rotating preload image and an error message in the middle of the screen saying "Conntection error" (or similar, since I translated it from the German version).
    I tried many things:
    - video resolution 1920x1080, 1280x720 and less, framerate 23,98
    - input video FLV or MP4 (transcoded from MOV files with Adobe Media Encoder)
    - started Captivate as Administrator
    - manipulated the FLVs with the "FLV MetaData Injector"
    - renamed the folder "Captivate 6" in "C:\Users\Name\AppData\Local" + restart
    - put the video files into the same folder as the Captivate project file
    - used different publishing templates (YouTube, Apple and so on)
    - deactivated/activated the option "scalable HTML content"
    - tested with only one video
... but always the same result: An MP4 file, just a few KB small, containing the error message "Connection error".
Thank you very much for any help
    Marcel

We are having the same issue with version 6.1.0.319
.flv files play in captivate, but after publishing and running the .swf file, we get the connection error.
Have tried all of the fixes in these discussions, but still get the connection error.
renamed the folder "Captivate 6" in "C:\Users\Name\AppData\Local" + restart
    disabled advanced project compression
    disabled compress SWF file
Published to a local drive instead of a network drive
deleted and reloaded the video files
Everything worked just fine when we were running version 5.5, but now since upgrading to 6 (which we paid good money for) we are at a stall, and our e-learning projects have come to a complete halt.
For a very expensive piece of software, it sure seems to be buggy!
    Any new ideas?

  • Can't publish an .app file

First try at publishing a Mac .app version of my project.  I'm doing everything that the Help says to do. I checked out an Adobe blog psot, but it is a duplicate of the Help I get an .app folder with subfolders inside, but I'm expecting an Apple executable file.
    What is going wrong?
I have Captivate 5.5, 8 GB of RAM, and a fast processor.

I don't do iPad content at the moment but I'm interested to get your feedback on how "easy" it was to get the content onto the iPad once you've built it.
My feeling is that the roundabout route through Apple's store is going to be a major disincentive to corporate e-learning clients who always seem to end up making lots of changes to courses AFTER they've gone out.
By all means come back and update this thread with your observations.

  • I can't close a preview file - no red dot.

No option in file. So I can't restart/shut down.  How do I get rid of this open file?

Can you turn the system off or restart it? Or is that being stopped because Preview won't close?
If you can't shut down or restart then the only other option is a forced shut down by holding down the power button for 5-10 seconds until the system turn off. Then restart it.

  • How can save/convert a preview file into a Microsoft Word/.doc file?

Basically, I've open some email attachments and they've opened in 'preview'
I have tried to save them as a .doc file so that I can open them in Microsoft Word, but have been unable to do this.
I have tried 'save as...' but it doesn't come up with a .doc option
I have also tried the 'Open with' in the get info pop up, and have changed it to microsoft word but when I then try to open it, it comes up with a 'Convert File' box.
I have tried some of the options available but none of them work
Am I missing something? or am I going down the wrong route?
Is it even possible to do?
I'm not great at computers and so answers with obvious steps would be great!
    Thanks!

Are these PDF files that you're attempting to save a .doc (or .docx) files. Preview won't do it. You can use a number of third-party application to accomplish what you want, but none of them are that inexpensive.
The least expensive application may be PDFpen - you can save Word documents from PDF files with it, amongst other things.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • I created an Imovie on Ipad. Before exporting the Imovie, I deleted the video clips from camera roll. Error message "this proj. contains clips which have been deleted from your photo library." Help!  Can I recover the "preview" file of my video in Imovie?

Is there an app out there to find the files within Imovie app on my Ipad where the Imovie "preview" is playing from?
I deleted the original vidoe clips from my Camera Roll before exporting the Imovie to Youtube because my camera roll was out of memory.
I'm using the latest Imovie app for Ipad.

  • How can illustrator cs5 export a file with layers intact?

When I try to export my cs5 file to a psd file to preserve the layers, I get the
warning: "not enough memory" which blocks it. The original file is only 17 megs
in size which is not real high. Help please

You have choose a lower dpi, or remove any stray elements outside your artwork that make your bitmapped canvas size larger.
You have to also export to CMYK .psd for layers, as RGB Export does not allow layers to be written.
If you need more DPI than, you can chop your file in half, and reassemble in Photoshop.
