Captivate 4: Delay in objects appearing

I have some image objects I've imported to my library and placed on slides, with options set to appear after 0.0 seconds, with no transition. However, when I run the project (as a preview or a published SWF) there is a delay of about 1 or 2 tenths of a second before the objects appear on the slide. The objects are PNG and GIF images. I tried BMP and JPG images, just to see if that made a difference, but it didn't.
This problem didn't happen in Captivate 3. Is there a setting I've missed, or something else I'm doing wrong?

Hello Stuart,
This seems to resolve your issue in the example: the success action on the buttons in slide 1 and slide 2 are set to 'Continue', if you change it to 'Go to next slide' the blink seems to disappear. This is consistent with the actions on success for the other slides on the click boxes, where the issue is not there. Do not ask me to explain why, but seems to work.

What you can do is use the _visible property of the object to make it appear and disappear, or more correctly, use the opoosite of the _visible property. You should not put code "on" objects, keep it in the timeline.
If "object" is the instance name of the object you want to toggle, then in the timeline code you can use...
object._visible = false; // start with the object being invisible
yourButtonName.onRelease = function(){
    object._visible = !object._visible;
That one line in the function sets the object's _visible property to be the opposite of what it currently is.

How can i make my object appear as a mesh?

How can I make an object appear as a mesh? I dont want anything as complicated as a coloured gradient I just want a flat object to appear like a net. Is there an easy way to do this?

Depending on the shape, and upon the appearance (varying width and/or knotting or whatever), it may be anything from a Rectangular/Polar Grid (bundled with the Line Segment Tool) to something intricate and difficult.

Making objects appear after a click on another object

Hi everyone,
I have a text box with some text on a slide. I would like my text box to appear after I click on an object that I created (an arrow for example). How do I do that?
Builds offers for my object to appear - after click, after first object appears or at the same time the previous object appears.
Am I missing something?

Hi Vladimir,
Welcome to Apple forums.
If you specifically want the (arrow) object to be the only place to click for this text then create a new slide (perhaps a duplicate). Select Arrow object, then open the Hyperlinks Inspector palette. Tick enable hyperlink and choose link to slide. In the bottom option enter the slide number of the new slide. This keeps the link pretty secure even if you add slides in between the original and the other.
If you don't mind clicking anywhere, then just select any of the build-in options with the text selected.

Cp7 - Text objects appear in filmstrip but are not visible in main window

Hi all
A problem has surfaced this week. When I open up any existing quiz projects, text objects aren't appearing. You can see on the filmstrip in the attached screenshot that there are 5 text objects on slide 1. However, none are showing up in the main window.
Clicking the preview button has no effect, whilst if I try to double-click on one of the text boxes I am bombed out of Captivate.
The files themselves are fine as my colleague has opened them no problem, so I've tried uninstalling Captivate and re-installing but this hasn't worked.
I had a webchat with one of Adobe's support representatives who asked me to copy the slides to a new project. This worked but it's going to take ages to do this for all of our existing projects.
Any ideas why Captivate is doing this?

I have tons of general projects that combine various elements. However, the ones that have stopped working are those that feature quiz question slides. You're right, the slide highlighted in my screenshot isn't a question slide itself, but the same issue is occurring for all slides in any project that contains a quizzing element.
These projects also make use of the Google LMS Widget. I'm not sure if that is having an effect.
Thinking about it, I did install a MacOS security update over the weekend that was pushed to my Macbook. Perhaps that has in some way conflicted with the widget or quizzing element? Like I pointed out in my original post, I have no problem with any projects that include quizzing and the widget that I have created this week. It's just affecting any of these projects from before this week.

Graphical Glitches: Objects appear not selected when they are, Symbols not appearing correctly

I've been having a ton of graphical glitches with Adobe Flash CS6 and I can't for the life of me figure out for the life of me.
Things that happen:
Objects will not appear selected when using the Free Transform Tool.
Symbols don't appar in scene when pasted, or dragged in until I leave the scene or symbol im in. They show up in the preview window though.
Something else I've been noticing is that when I use the Pen tool my computer or speakers or something making this werid noise and it only happens when I'm using the Pen tool.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No one has had these issues? I just got another one. My timeline disappeared, I don't mean the menu hid or thats it not there. It's there its just not actually displaying the Timeline or at least it didn't till I wen't back a few changes for some reason. It was still there though as I could click the eye and lock and the layers (which ones I have no idea) it was all grey. Also again the selection area doesn't show up, all movements of symbols are slow to update their postitions and when I turn on outlines it does nothing.
Also everytime I close Flash I get an error from windows, no idea why.

IView and system admin objects appear changed or not registered when transported

Hi,
Recently we moved a few objects - iViews, pages and roles as epa and system admin objects as config archive and imported them manually to Test system. But when checked in the next landscape, the iView properties appear different. Eg. In Development system, the iView was unchecked for visibility option i.e. iView should not be visible. But when transported to test system, the property was checked and gave error. On reimporting, the same thing happened and we had to manually correct the property. This is not an expected behaviour and manual changes are not to happen after development changes.
Similarly, though config archive import showed the 2 new system objects in the respective location of Test system, the expected functionality was not working. I checked this by deleting one of them and manually creating the same entry and it worked fine. So I also had to delete the 2nd one and create a manual entry. The system admin objects we used pertained to System Configuration --> Content Mgmt--> Form Based Publishing --> Forms Availablity --> Folder Settings
We also moved kmcs and they are reflecting properly with correct folder permissions.
We don't understand why this is so occurring (iView and system admin entry appearing different or not getting registered )and never experienced such a case in previous projects. We don't want to face the issue going forward when transporting changes to staging and Prod systems.
Please assist as to what went wrong or any probable cause and solution for same.

Can more than one build in or out object appear/ disappear simultaneously?

I have objects (images and text boxes) appearing one at a time but I would like them all to disappear simultaneously so is there some way you can group objects to appear and disappear at the same time?

Again, if I'm understanding you, this is a very straightforward effect to produce. In the Build Inspector, set up all the Build Ins for the objects, then specify the Build Outs. Now click on the More Options button, which will reveal the Build Order drawer. Object appearing on pages applied with master page

I'm doing a multi-page brochure and I've got all my master pages set up. on the odd pages applied with master page 'A,' a colored rectangle appears when I print that is not on screen on my master page 'A,' nor is it an object on those pages. it also appeared on a pdf that i sent out.
I can't get rid of it! I've tried to delete the master page 'A' and create a new one (made a copy of a master that didn't have issues), then applied that to the odd pages. no luck.

Thanks Al, you've been a busy ID user over the years. Me, I've only been using it for a couple years and I always seem to learn something new every day. Thanks for your help, and I'll continue to read further into the threads. There's always more than one way to skin a cat, we all know that, so there are multiple ways to fix the problem at hand. Some of my spreads hold large photos that actually go right through the spine of the spread, and yet the two pages of the spread can actually have 2 different master pages applied. So, I've got to figure out which way is best..whether its moving the master page items away from the spine or if splitting up the pages is better (not exactly sure how that will work yet with large spread photos). I'll look into it more later, when I have more time. Right now I'm on deadline (monthly magazine), and for a quick and easy fix, I can switch master pages off and just copy the master items over to each page spread where I need them.

I would like have a graphic object appear (visible) and disappear based on future slide

I would like to know if it is possible to make a graphic or button appear (make visible) and disappear on a slide after the completing furure slides that return to that particular slide. Basically, the initial slide has several buttons that go through several videos and questions. At the end of each series of slides, I return to initial slide and that is where I'd like to place a completion graphic. Is there anyway the visible field can be updated for a graphic or button?

Absolutely that's possible to achieve. You would use Variables and Advanced Actions to do it.
Basically you would need to declare a variable to track whether the slide has been visited or not. Then use the Advanced Action to reveal (or hide) the image based on teh value of the variable.

Delaying button's appearance

Is there any way to cause the buttons on a menu to delay before appearing on the menu screen?

Definitely works in DVD-SP 2 (just did it the other day) but as "Houghts" says it may be that you need to use the Simple overlay method (whhich is what we do)
The only thing that doesn't work properly is returning to the loop point if you menu out of what's playing (I think I'm right in saying it defaults back to the beginning of the menu). We usually create two versions of the menu - one with the loop and delayed buttons appearing - for when the disc is first played - then one which has the buttons load straight away from the loop point.

Delays in builds appearing

i was giving a presentation in Keynote and there were a few second delays in my builds appearing on click. such that i'd click again and then it would build in AND advance to the next slide. i was getting ahead of myself because the delays in builds threw me. this hasn't happened before.
i recently upgraded to Tiger, and i don't know if this might have caused problems. i looked at the times set in the builds, etc., and can't see anything that would cause this.
i was using the presenter mode at the time.
any advice?

I've run across the problem before. Here are the main issues:
•The more complicated the slide/build/transition, the more your machine has to process. This can cause delays and stutters. Also, quit any other programs, so Keynote is the only program running.
•How much VRAM do you have? If you have less than 32MB, turn on video mirroring for the presentation. Set your display to a lower resolution. Use thousands instead of millions of colors. All these adjustments use less VRAM.
•It can sometimes help to run your presentation before you present it. It seems that some information is cached, allowing speedier transitions.
•I was doing complicated stuff, and my 1 GHz PowerBook just couldn't handle it, so I just bought a 2.33 GHz Macbook Pro (not a cheap solution). But my Keynote displays beautifully!

Object appearing upon clicking on link in copy?

Hi there,
I wonder if it's possible to create the following effect with Muse:
There is a longcopy with several links. By clicking on one of these links an object is appearing and then disappears upon another click in that same object. Just like it is here on the site: http://claudiapitschke.de/html/claudiapitschke.html (might take time to load). It is not the menue I am talking about, it is the text with the links in it.
What do you think, can this be done in Muse?

Thank you for your reply, though I'd say what you describe this is not quite the same. The tooltips are close but much more a pop up than something that appears from down below and then vanishes again in the bottom. The scrolling effect with the anchors is really sth different I'd say - the longcopy does not stay where it is and goes up ... Of course both would be options to consider (though plan B), yet it's not the same.

How can I make an object appear to glow (produce it's own light)?

Can anyone help me with this? ex. make a plant glow like a lightning bug or things like a "light saber"? have tried lots of things but nothing looks realistic.

Hello! When something appears to glow, the glowing object will often appear high in value (i.e. close to white) with very little color, with a much more colorful halo around it. You will see this in the lightsaber effect, as well as neon signs, street lamps, and similar sorts of light sources.
To emulate this in Photoshop, here is an example of a yellow-orange light source glowing against a dark forest background, which could be a firefly or something like that.
I began with a stock image of a forest at night, and using an airbrush with white selected for the foreground color, painted a small circle on a transparent layer.
To indicate the color of the light, I selected the layer with the white circle on it, and clicked the Layer Effects button within the layers panel.
From the drop-down menu, I selected Color Overlay.
I chose a very saturated yellow, and turned the opacity down to around 23%. This shows the color of the light while keeping it close to white, indicating the brightness.
To show the glow, I chose Outer Glow from inside the Layer Effects panel. I chose a similar saturated yellow, set the blending mode to Screen, and set the opacity to around 80%.
And here is the final image. Is this similar to the effect you were going for?

Pinned objects appearing in wrong order

does a pinned object necessarily appear on top of other layers despite their order?
i have an object pinned to the top center of my page and i want it to go behind other objects depending on where the user is on the y-axis. yet, despite the order of the layers, the pinned object (main logo_1.png) appears above the layer i want it to slide behind (white main logo.png). any ideas why this may be happening? thanks!

Create a new layer in the layers drop-down box (shown below named Header and text)
Place the pinned logo on the lower layer (text)
