Captivate 4 freezing errors

I am using Captivate 4. I have a base project size 800x600.  I have additional slides that I'm importing (795x560), because of a smaller screen. I'm am having major file corruption and file closing errors. Is this screen size diff. causing the errors?

Noel,
I totally understand your frustration.  I too, have resorted to the copy slide by slide method.  But I have done other things to deter freezes.
I have had to do several things:
1.  Are you working from server?  If so, start working on your document from your desktop. I then transfer my day's worth of saved documents back to the server to be backed up.
2.  Save, save and save.  I save a NEW document (File>Save As) every 15 minutes or so, depending upon how much work I've done to my project. (That way, if it does crash, I've only lost 15 minutes and have an uncorrupted file to go back to.
3.  Keep your file size down.
     a. That means saving your pictures at their actual size in the document.  (Are you finding that when you insert a picture, you get the screen prompt that asks you to crop or reduce the picture size? - Then your pictures are too big.)
     b.  What screen capture size are you using?  Use the smallest possible size.  800x600 has worked well for me and also makes it easier for the end user to view the project (they don't have to scroll up and down to see the screen.)
4.  Delete unused items.  In the library window, click the Select Unused Items icon (this will select all unused items from your documents) and then click the Trash can icon.  (Just because you delete a picture or audio clip from a slide, Captivate does NOT remove it from the document until you delete from the library.  This takes up a LOT of space).
5.  Start a Freeze/Error log.  I have started a log to remind me what I was doing at the time of the freeze up to try to pinpoint the cause.  At this time it appears random.  Maybe you can find a common link.
Adobe has not given me any other suggestions or fixes.  The above steps are the only that have kept my sanity and freezes to a minimum.
Good Luck!

  • Captivate freezing Error Message

    Hi,
Captivate continues to freeze randomly through projects. I get the error "A fatal error has occured and the application is being terminated. Adobe Captivate has tried to save all your work in the respective project folders as ".cpbackup" files. Please restart Adobe Captivate."  I restart, yet I continue to face this error. This has happened to me 3 times already and it's very frustrating. I basically have to start over on my projects. My projects are saved to My Documents folder. I've tried clearing the cache.
I went through uninstalling and reinstalling Captivate but I got this error message after it finished: This is on a Windows 7 pc.

    Thank you,

Exit Code 6 means that some of the supporting components for the application are not installed correctly.
Reason : may be they are already installed on your machine or they didnt got uninstalled when you tried to uninstall the application last time.
Try launching the application, it should work.
now for the error that you get with the project.
Please try to create a test project and see if you get the same error on that project as well.
if you do not get this error with the new test project, then try to copy all the slides of the original project into a new blank project, save it with a different name and then check.
    Thanks

  • Adding Click box makes Captivate freeze up and end in error and closing down.

Since the patch yesterday, everytime I go to add a Click Box to a slide, Captivate freezes, says not responding at the top and eventually the ol' "Captivated ended in error, send error info to Microsoft".  I have lost my work so many times today. I have cleared all temp files, etc. shut down, powered down, etc. to try and clear whatever it is, but it is still happening.  The project and Captivate was working ok yesterday. Just the "usual" Captivate locking up and falling down.  I am using this on Windows XP.
Message was edited by: donnaj  Actually, now when trying to record a new slide Captivate locked up and I got the message. In fact I had to HARD BOOT the system...
Cannot do with Captivate today really. Apart from changing sizes of highlight boxes.

    Hi there
"I do not see any documentation stating a limitation."
This is true. You seldom (if ever) see things like this in any manufacturer documentation. After all, their goal is to sell the product and tell you how great it is and how it will address your needs. Limitations are viewed as a negative, so they are typically omitted. I'm sure Toyota didn't have any docs that said that "oh yes, and by the way, sometimes the gas pedal will stick". Or Microsoft doesn't say "by the way, Windows will sometimes crash on you and you will have to totally reinstall our operating system when that happens".
Things like project limitations are learned by end users sharing their collective experiences and wisdom here and in other places on the web. Captivate has always had a size limitation. Often we recommend that folks keep projects somewhere between 50-65 slides as a common "rule of thumb" guideline. Our hope is that a future version will remove any such limitations. But my guess is that you will then see some other unexpected issue emerge. Such is the nature of the software beast.
Another thing that is never mentioned anywhere except in third party materials is the fact that Captivate projects should not be placed on a network unless you are doing that as a backup mechanism. You never want to place a project on a network drive, then open Captivate and proceed to open the project and make edits while the project is on the network drive. Working in this manner holds the risk of completely corrupting your project and rendering it unusable.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Adobe Captivate freezes- Doesn't show Slide Images

I'm getting a frequently occuring error where Adobe Captivate freezes  and no longer shows the captured animations of the slides, only the  mouse movements. Then if I try to save, it looks like it is saving, but  does nothing. Then if I wait a bit longer, the entire application locks  up, and I can't do anything. This is not an issue with the file being  too big, because I only have about 25 slides, and the file is only about  50MB large. Also, I have 8GB of RAM, of which only 4GB is being used.  What could be causing this issue?

    Hi there
What version of Captivate are you using? Where exactly are you attempting to save? Captivate projects don't like it when you save them and edit them while they are placed on a network drive. So if your project is on a network drive you should move it to your local C drive.

  • Adobe Captivate freezes when I try to save, delete a screen, import a slide, etc...

    Hi all,
Big problem here. I am using Cap 5.5...things were working relatively fine. Tried to import one PPT slide into a small 15 screen project and it froze. I can only get out through the Task Mgr (CTRL + ALT + DEL and delete task). I tried clearing the cache under preferences but the YES button freezes - the window just stays open!
Same thing happens when I do most anything now, delete a screen, publish...seems like anytime a pop-up window appears with info or instruction Captivate freezes and none of the buttons to exit/cancel work. I can't save or do any work.
What can be the problem? I am using Windows 7.
    Thanks so much! S

Another possibility.  Were you by any chance using a multiple monitor setup before and now you're using a single monitor or a different multi-monitor setup?
If so, your 'unresponsive' Captivate might actually be due to this.  You cannot see another modal dialog that has opened because it's opening off screen (where Captivate thinks the monitor is located).
To test if this is the issue, next time it goes unresponsive, hit the Escape key to see if you get back control.

  • Adobe Captivate 6 Error when publishing

Help!  I having trouble publishing a training that my employees can view.  When they open the project they are getting the first image here that is essentially blank.  I have attempted to reduce the size and save to different folders etc. but nothing seems to work.

    Hi there,
Could you tell me the complete version of Captivate (Help > About Adobe Captivate).  6.0.1.240
Which version of Adobe Reader or Acrobat are they using?  Adobe Reader XI
Can you publish this locally on your system (not to network drive directly), check force republish option also, and are you able to view it on your end?  I can pull up the file from my computer that is saved in the same drive that the agents are attempting to pull up.  But, I am not sure if it is viewing for me because I have it on my system.

  • Adobe Captivate 4 errors out on recording

    Hi,
I am a long time user of Captivate and have been using Captivate 4 since it came out.  I am running a Dell Precision Workstation M6400 with 3GB RAM, Windows XP Pro with SP 3, Intel 2.6 gHz processor.  I also have the latest patches for Windows and Captivate installed.
I am a heavy user of Captivate.  In fact a day does not go by that I am not using it.  I have been working on a project for a client.  I was able to shoot about 45 slides, edit the text captions, and added some audio.  I saved the project, closed it, and exited Captivate.  When I came back from lunch, I started Captivate, opened the project, entered Edit mode, selected the last slide (45) in my project and hit the record button to capture some additional slides.  I captured about 10 more slides and ended the recording process.
I got the progress window saying the slides were importing and then I get the old "Captivate has experienced an error and will now close" error.
I have recreated the preferences, uninstalled and reinstalled Captivate 4 - 3 times, applied the lastest Captivate patch 3 times, repaired the registry table, and did all the system disk utilities I have.  I have a very fast and clean running laptop, but Captivate 4 still generates the same error.  I can no longer record either for an existing project or a new one.  The error always occurs after a recording session, regardless of the recording type.  During the importing of slides, it bombs out.
All my projects are in Captivate 4, so I can't even go back to an earlier version.  Anyone else having a similar problem.  My projects are gonna go overdue  if I can't get this fixed.  Any help from anyone would be awesome.  I am willing to try anything at this point.  I am attaching the detailed error report that it sends to Microsoft.

  • Captivate freezing when pop-up appears

Everytime a pop-up question appears like "Are you sure you want to delete selected slides"
    How do I stop it?
    Thanks

I am operating duo monitors and it freezes if it is on the laptop monitor or the one attached to it.
CAptivate 6 as part of elearinng suite
It is Windows 7  Captivate seems to be still running in the background, but the pop up message is what freezes. I can click on the yes or cancel buttons, and it looks like it worked but all remains frozen. IF I click outside of the popup box, it get the error ping from my system.
The problem is I need both monitors open for cutting and pasting

  • Captivate 6 Errors: Missing file libwinpthread-1.dll  and The Application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b) on Windows 2008 R2

    Hi,
I have a problem with Captivate 6 installation on Windows Server 2008 R2. I have 2 different scenarios where I tested but the result is same.
1- I used AMEE (Application Manager Enterprise 3.1) to create the installation Package to deploy through SCCM 2012.
Notice that the current package works fine on Windows7 (x86 & x64) but not on 2008 R2 due to an error after I try to launch Captivate.exe application.
The error states that there's a Missing file: libwinpthread-1.dll and if I copy and made a registration of this .DLL file then it sends another error saying: The Application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b) so it never let me launch the application.
2- Now if I install the package directly from the Original sources(CD) without creating any AMEE package after completing the installation I still have the same error about the DLL missing file.
Is there any fix or workaround to install Captivate 6 on Win2008 R2 ?
Thanks in advance & kind regards.

Wow, No replies so far !!
    Any one ??

  • [info only] 2.6.33.3-2 nvidia-96xx freezes - errors

I started noticing some strange freezes in Stumpwm today.  At first I suspected stump since I just started using it recently but then kde did the same thing upon reboot. The system would start freezing for a while, lockup (no keyboard input), graphics display would appear corrupted, etc. Investigating the logs I found:

After considering things I decided to simply switch back to Nouveau from nvidia-96xx.  I've yet to see the problem reoccur yet since doing so.  I will update if it does.  I only started getting these errors in the logs after having these problems.  Investigating past logs show that they have never appeared before as far as I can see.
    Some hardware and config  info:
    01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV18 [GeForce4 MX 4000] (rev c1)
    Linux arch-desktop 2.6.33-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Sun May 2 08:21:02 UTC 2010 i686 Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux
Recently upgraded the kernel but I rebooted a few days ago and did not notice this before:
    [2010-05-09 20:25] upgraded kernel26-firmware (2.6.33.3-1 -> 2.6.33.3-2)
This isn't a big deal to me as I prefer using nouveau anyway but I wanted to share this because I would not be surprised if others see it.  Just a little info for anyone who runs into this and does a search on these errors....

Thought I had better follow up on this in case someone relied on this information.  The problem reoccurred this morning with the Nouveau driver.  Upon investigating I found two blown (gapping holes, leaking) capacitors on the Nvidia card.  This might also be related to previous system instability which I have been experiencing the last few months (I was unable to find evidence of capacitor issues on the motherboard itself).  I'm using a backup video card at this time.

  • Adobe Captivate Exception Error After Recording

I am using Adobe Captivate 4 to record tutorials from a website (the tutorials are showing how to use a website) and keep getting the following message after completing a recording:
"The exception unknown software exception (0xc0000409) occurred in the application at location 0x02d13782" then the program terminates completely.  The file allows you to record but after you click on the file in the taskbar to import the recording it errors out then closes.
The tutorials are being recorded on a website using a Dell machine that exceeds the hardware requirements, has Windows XP SP3 with recent updates, and IE7 with recent updates.  The files are HUGE in size so I am wondering if that might be the problem.  One tutorial (.cp file) might be anywhere from 20MB up.  I have all of the audio and recording settings set to low so my question is how are these files growing so large in size, and is that the reason I keep getting the exception error?  Thanks in advance!

I too am getting this error on a couple of my Captivate (4) files.  It occurs if I try to insert (eg click box) or import (eg Powerpoint files).
Files aren't particularly big - about 2 MB - and are one of many similar files in a project so can't understand why this is occurring - but is frustrating as I can't do anything with the file any longer - even if I try to open past versions I get the same error if I try to insert/import
Would appreciate any comments on why this may be occurring.

  • Captivate fatal error when trying to save.

I've been recording successfully in Captivate.  All of a sudden, I get an error when I try and save screen changes.  The message displays "fatal error has ocurred and the application is being terminated.  Adobe Captivate has tried to save the work in respective project folders a cpbackup files.  Please restart Captivate.  The error keeps occuring on a particular project that I am working on.  Please advise - why is this happening?

It sounds like you either have a corrupt slide, or some element of a slide in your project has become corrupted.
The easiest way I've found to locate the issue and resolve it is to open the project, and then create another project of the same dimensions.  Once you have two projects showing in Captivate tabs, paste a few slides from the suspect one into the new one and try saving each time.
If the corruption stems from some object ID conflict (where two objects are fighting over the same ID) then pasting slides into a new project should get rid of that issue because Captivate renames all elements when copying and pasting.  If the corruption is not elminated this way, then you will locate the issue as soon as you try to paste and save the corrupted slide/s into the new project.
Remember to always have the preference set to save project backups.  Captivate 5x rarely corrupts, but it is still possible.
