Captivate 4 in Windows 7

I have Captivate 4 and just installed Windows 7.  I can not import audio.  I followed the fix posted on Adobe website and set up the program in admin mode on the .exe file.  Still cannot upload audio to Captivate simulations.  Any ideas
Thanks

Hi there
You might try configuring "compatibility mode". I think it's worked for some here such as Rod Ward. Personally, I never was able to make it work on my own Windows 7 setup and I ended up instaling the Windows XP virtual machine and installing CP4 in that. That does require Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate in order to make it work though. Not sure if that's an option for you.

  • Buttons trigger continue even when just Show/Hide (captivate 6 windows 7)

I have a simple image button that is designed to act as a close button for a modal popup window in Captivate (Constructed from a smart shape and a caption box).
The button uses the "Hide" method to hide a target Group. This works fine, but I have noticed the button is also triggering the playhead to "Continue" also.
It seems that a button I have a "Show" action on also behaves this way. I don't want the playhead to continue, I just want to Show/Hide the objects on the slide. Is there a way to achieve this without haveing the playhead continue, resulting in going to a new slide?
    Thanks in advance,
    Sam

    Sam,
I'm not so sure this means more maintenance, because the advanced action needs only one statement and can easily be duplicated and edited. For simple actions you also have to select the action (Hide/Show) from the dropdown list, then choose the object using another dropdown list. If you count the number of clicks, this means about the same work. I have explained this important difference about releasing the play head between simple and advanced standard action in a blog post and a YouTube tutorial:
    http://lilybiri.posterous.com/why-choose-standard-over-simple-action
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3nKi-DB6Fw
Perhaps you could even save time, but then I have to know if this 'group' of objects is different on each slide or the same? Or are some objects the same? A toggle button is also a possibility, in Captivate 6 you can have shape buttons timed for the rest of the project or on a master slide, which is not possible for the old image buttons.

  • Captivate 2 - Windows XP - Unable to decode and import the selected wav/mp3 file

Hi - I have read through all of the postings related to this topic and have tried all of the helpful solutions to no avail.
I have verifed that the file is PCM Format (countless times)
    I have registered the NSAudio.dll
I am still receiving the referenced error.
I'm running Windows XP (not Vista)
    I'm running Captivate 2
    I have a Dell Latitude
I tried to import the file as an mp3 and received a Microsoft error
mfc90ll.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
If anyone has any other ideas, it would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

    Hi again
About all I can think of to suggest is to try converting the formats using something like Audacity. See if you get a different result.

  • Installing Captivate on Windows 7

We are 'upgrading' to Windows 7 from XP. We have Captivate 2 and then the upgrades of versions 3 and 4 to bring us up to date.
When trying to re-install captivate 2 as the base level software on the Windows 7 machines the Install Wizard keeps coming up with a message :
    Any ideas would be welcomed.
    Regards
    Dick P

    Hi Dick
Have you tried skipping the version 2 and 3 and just installing version 4? That's probably what I'd try. If that fails, I'd try installing the trial, then using the key from the 4 upgrade to see if it will convert to a licensed version.

  • Captivate 8 Windows crashes when inserting Learning Interactions

    Hello, all.
I'm running Captivate 8 one Windows 8.1 Pro laptop, with 8gigs of Ram and an Intel Core i5 processor.
Every time I try to insert a Learning Interaction - every one I've tried (except the timer) - it after about 30 seconds of NOTHING happening, the program crashes. I get the "Windows has stopped responding" and then the "close program." dialog.
And yes, I have tried both running as Administrator, and not. Same problem.
Has anyone else encountered this, and do you know of a fix?
    Thanks,
    Keith

Rick, I spent over 2 hours on the phone with Support. They were great - but ultimately came to the conclusion that there was a problem with my Windows 8 install.
I went back, completely uninstalled, and re-installed 64-bit Captivate (I run 64-bit Windows). That partially solved the problem, but not completely. Some interactions work, others don't. And it's still buggy as h ell.
Support's advice to me was to do a full, clean install of Windows 8 - and then to install Captivate FIRST, before installing other software. I realize that's a massive job and a major pain - but if you rely heavily on Captivate, I might suggest trying it.
FYI, I have been working on a fairly good laptop - i5 processor (3.2ghz) and 8 gigs ram. But I was in need of a new desktop for heavier applications anyway. So I took this as the time to upgrade my desktop. It arrives today - and the first thing I'll install is Captivate. I'll post back here whether that solves all my problems.
All of that said, I'll probably do a clean install on my laptop soon.
That's all the info/advice I can give. Best of luck!
    Keith

  • Captivate 4/Windows 7 no Audio recording

We have used Macromedia Captivate for many years and have recently been considering moving to Captivate 4.  Most of what we do is pretty simple but we do plan to start using some features such as adding audio to our tutorials.  Unfortunately, what we have discovered is that Cap4 and Win7 don't play well together, so we may need to consider some other product for our 300 plus users.
Any suggestions as to how to resolve the problem would be appreciated.  We have tried the basic things of running in Windows XP/SP2, and logging in with administrator rights.  We'd rather not have to change horses at this stage, and Captivate is pretty widely acknowledged as the best product in this field, but if it doesn't work there isn't much point in investing that much money to upgrade.
FYI - I have loaded the demo version of eLearning Suite so I tested the recording capability of Soundbooth and that worked just fine.  That tells me the problem is not with the hardware and probably not permissions.

I got it working with Win7 Home Edition, however you may need some patience to know the details since I'm abroad on a business trip and I can only check my settings by next Sunday earliest.
I don't remember having done something special for the audio, IIRC Windows Update got it right from the beginning, but it was a while ago... my memory is not what is used to be...

  • Captivate on Windows Mobile 6.1

    Hi,
I have a client who wishes to publish a Captivate file to their mobile device. They use the Palm Treo Pro with Flash Lite 3.1 and are on Windows Mobile 6.1.
Every attempt I've made has not worked... am I missing something?
Does anyone know if this is possible?
    Thanks in advance,

  • Any options for using Captivate on Windows 2003?

I am new to Captivate but I must get a demo done by Friday. I
installed on Windows 2003 where the software I am demo-ing is
installed. Now I find that 2003 is not supported. Can anyone
suggest (quickly!) how I can use Captivate to do my demo?
I am not savvy at all with demo software, so please be
    specific. Thank you!
    Janise

    Hi again Janise
Yes, as long as you can display what you need on the XP
desktop, you should be good to go.
Keep in mind that your best result will likely be obtained by
creating the voiceover as a separate process and not while you are
    recording the initial movie.
Also, you may discover that the remote destop won't paint
quite fast enough so Captivate will record "blank screens" here and
there. Where you notice this happening, press the Print Screen key
to force additional screen captures. It's always easier to delete
unwanted slides than it is to re-create them when needed.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Captivate 5 Windows 7 Neospeech not working

We have a machine with Captivate 5 and Win 7 that we've reinstalled Captivate to.  The Loquindo voices loaded but we need the Neospeech voices.  The VT folder contains Paul and Kate but they do not appear as speech agents in any drop down when Captivate is opened.

    Hi There,
    Welcome to Adobe Community.
If you are getting that problem, you might have to reset the preferences.
    Kindly do the following:
    Close Captivate.
    Go to C:/Users/[user-name]/AppData/Local/Adobe
You will see a folder named Captivate 5.
Rename that to something like OLDCaptivate.
    Launch captivate again and check.
    Thanks!

    Thanks

  • Captivate 5 - Project Audio Window won't open

When I go to Audio > Edit > Project on any one of my projects, it tells me that it will delete captions (as usual) then when I push "Yes"....... nothing.  I won't be able to do anything else in captivate (as usual) but there's no edit window.  I thought maybe it was being slow, but I sat and waited for a goodly amount of time and nothing.  I have to push "Esc" to be able to work in Captivate again.
It's almost like the window is there, but hidden... I thought maybe I had dragged it to the side of my screen out of sight at one point, but I haven't been able to find it.
The Edit > Slide window works fine.  It's just the Edit > Project that doesn't work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
I am guessing that the dialog opens but goes behind the main Captivate application window.
Can you check the following -
    1. Launch Captivate and resize the application window to a small size.
    2. Drag the application to a corner of the window (keep the center of screen empty)
    3. Now add audio to project and open 'Audio > edit> project'
See if you can now see the project audio edit dialog.
    regards,

  • Running the browser in a captivate window

I would like to create an elearning project, whereby I would have the user input some HTML code in in one window and then be able to render it through a browser in another window , dyamically. The idea is to run a real browser in some kind of a captivate container/window. Is this possible to do  and if yes, then how ? Please help.

    Hi kabirk,
Thank you for contacting Adobe support.
Using Adobe Captivate you cannot input some HTML code in Captivate window so the query mentioned by you is not possible in Adobe Captivate.

  • Captivate v. 5 freezes when I try to open the variables window

Running on Windows 7, I need to change one of my variables. So I click Project -> Variables...
Captvate freezes. Accepts no input whatsoever. It's as if the variables dialog were hidden. I tried stopping Captivate from Task Manager, TM says the program (Captivate) is awaiting inpu and I should not stop it. TM suggests in switch to Captivate. I do. Captivate displays its "This project has changed, do you want to save, exit without saving or cancel." At least it's responding. But I try again to access the variables dialog going this time through creating an advanced action and clicking the Variables button there. Same effect.
I was running two monitors, one my laptop, the other a regular monitor. I changed my monitor settings to use only the laptop, thinking that maybe Captivate (or Windows) is casting the variables dialog offscreen somehow. Still, the freeze happens again.
It's out of the blue. I didn't do or change anything as far as I know that would cause this behavior.
    Anyone else experience this?

    Hi there
First, please report this as a bug via http://www.adobe.com/go/wish
Next, you can try re-connecting the second monitor. Odds are the dialog is displaying in that "invisible" monitor space. I asked you to report as a bug because the engineers really should configure Captivate so it senses when a second monitor is not present and it then simply presents the dialog on the visible part of the screen.
If you are unable to connect a second monitor you can close Captivate and blow your preferences away. Just right-click the shortcut you use to start Captivate and choose Properties. Then click "Open File Location". Windows Explorer should open. From there, navigate to the Utils folder and run the CleanPreferencesWin.bat file. Then restart Captivate. Your dialog should have returned.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Two file windows disappear if I use extend screen to compare 2 lessons

I use a laptop and an extra screen in "Extended" mode. I drag out one file window from Captivate and maximise it to the full screen size. I drag out the other file window, and make it as large as possible on the laptop.
When I move to another app (e.g. Outlook) , I lose both these file windows and can't find them again without closing them and reopening them. Usually, if Word is in the extra screen, it still shows as a window in the task bar. This does not happen for the Captivate file windows despite having the standard functionality window controls.
My question is where in Captivate can you bring back these files when they disappear? I checked the windows menu but to no avail.

  • Captivate 7: slide with mouse will not auto advance after publishing

After I export my Captivate video, any slide that has a mouse object on it does not auto advance. I suspected that maybe the clicking sound file default attached to the action may have become corrupted, so I opened the sound file attached to "single-click" from Captivate. In the VisualClicks folder, there were no sound files. So, I opened the ClickSounds folder and attached the Mouse.mp3 file to this action. After publishing the training, the slide still will not auto advance. The slides that do not have the mouse action advance automatically as they should. The sound file may not be the issue (going to try to uncheck all of the Mouse Click Sound check boxes and republish to see if that helps).
Was hoping to find a solution for future videos.
Each slide is basically a layer of audio > slide > png file > the occasional smart object and/or text > mouse. I have no quizzes or video.
When publishing I use the following setup swf/html5 with swf + html5 checked and scalable HTML content checked. We use Google Chrome and I've had numerous people try my HTML link after I've uploaded all files and everyone has the same issue.
1- Do you happen to know why the mouse action would cause the slide to not auto advance, and if so please let me know a solution so the user doesn't have to click next. If the mouse itself isn't the culprit, any other suggestions on what could cause this?
2- Is there a way to make changes to the audio or override the mouse properties on all slides? I tried right clicking and "use the current mouse pointer for all slides" but it didn't change any of the properties. Thankfully my video is only 110 slides or it would have been even more painful.
    Captivate 7
    Windows 8.1

    Of course! Here ya go
For the record, I did create a new project with only two slides to try and duplicate the issue. I had the same problem. I unchecked the Mouse Click Sound check box, republished and the slide auto advanced. I'm wondering if a default sound file was somehow moved or deleted? I discussed uninstalling and reinstalling C7 onto my laptop, but that's a frustrating solution haha
