Captivate 4 LMS/AICC

Hello There,
I'm an LMS Administrator trying to load a course (built with ppt slides) into my LMS.
I've tried many variations of the publisher settings.  There is an imbedded quiz (weighted) along
with 3 survey questions(not weighted).  Upon completion, I get confirmation from the LMS, but
when I view the transcript the course status is "CBT Not Attempted".  Can anyone provide some guidance?

Hi there
I'm surprised you missed seeing the sticky links on the Captivate forums landing page.

  • Adobe Captivate LMS Compatibility Guide - Anyone Interested??

    Why is it so hard to find information about Captivate LMS Compatibility?
    I'll admit to being somewhat frustrated with the lack of easily procurable information about how to make Adobe Captivate content compatible with the plethora of LMS products now flooding the marketplace.  (There are over 100.) I had hoped for years that Adobe would put up a site (or at least a page or two) that listed LMSs and laid out the correct settings in Captivate to use for each one.  Sadly this hasn't happened.  And the search function on this forum seems to be broken, which makes it more than hard to find information about a given named LMS.
    So in desperation I've decided to try and provide a venue for this type of information myself.  I'm going to reserve a section on my website at www.infosemantics.com.au for information specific to Adobe Captivate LMS Compatibility.  I'll be listing anyLMS products there for which I can procure information related to using Captivate.  Headings on each LMS page will overview the LMS functionality, compatibilty with SCORM or AICC standards, any known issues with compatibility with Captivate content, what Cp quiz settings other users have found work successfully, as well as any modifications to templates, or workarounds that have proven useful.
    Naturally, I only have access to a small number of LMS products for testing. So I'm enlisting help from any LMS users on this forum to provide suggestions and information collaboratively.
    Here's what I need from you:
    Simply go to http://www.infosemantics.com.au/contact and leave a message stating the brand and version of LMS/s you use, and a contact email address where I can reach you for information on how you got your Captivate content to work with it.  I will add a new page to the LMS Guide covering every LMS for which people offer information and add the info under each heading.  Each LMS page will also allow comments so that other users can offer feedback and suggestions.  If the volume of response is to high for mere comments, I can add a forum for each LMS where users can exchange information on what worked for them.  User's interested in a given LMS can subscribe to that page so that they will be notified via RSS of any updates to information.
    I intend to create test projects in Cp5 that have various combinations of Quiz Settings which (according to user feedback) SHOULD WORK on each LMS.  You'll be able to download these zipped SCORM or AICC packages to test on your own LMS as well as the Captivate project files (cp and cptx format) used to create them, so that you can see the settings used.  Hopefully this will help you to debug compatibility with your own LMS.
    You can also leave a message on the contact form if you are trying to use a particular LMS but haven't had much success and would appreciate getting information about it.  I can't promise to find the answers, but someone else that chimes in might be able to do so once they know you're looking.
    My sincere hope is that over time this resource will build into something that will save a lot of time and angst for every Captivate developer trying to work with an ever-growing number of LMS products. More and more clients have them.  But it's a minefield out there.
    Anyone interested in participating in this attempt?

    No, I'm not only concerned with Cp5's LMS compatibility.
    I intend to put up information about all Captivate versions that anyone can supply information on.  Most likely this will be from about Cp3 onward.

  • Captivate 4 AICC LMS

    Hi everyone, Could someone help please? I have designed a Quiz in Captivate 4 and published it with AICC LMS Option. Now you can see that Captivate 4 produces the .au, .crs, .cst and .des files. I have brought the Quiz into the LMS (namely, Isoph Blue (Learn Something) using the four files. The Quiz appears in the LMS and you can open and answer the questions. But the issue is that no completion message or tracking is recorded in the LMS. The quiz tracking message for Quiz complete is not recorded in the LMS. Isoph Blue (Learn Something) is AICC comply. Some other AICC training modules have been tracked successfully, so the LMS is AICC comply What do I have to do to solve this issue, can somebody troubleshoot this? PS: I can provide more information and files, etc if needed.

    I've been using Inquisiq EX from ICS Learning group for about 4 months (Hosted version). I've got 4 Captivate4 courses running on it so far with no problems (SCORM 1.2).
    We spent about a year evaluating LMSs and finally settled on this one. They have a free trial available on their website.

  • Captivate 5 AICC Problem

    Hi,
    I am having problems getting Captivate 5 to produce output files that function correctly with an AICC based LMS. The published presentation either does not produce the correct AICC calls to the LMS or produces no calls at all - not sure at present.
    If I use a Captivate 4 based .cp file and publish with Captivate 4, then everything works ok. If I take the same .cp file and load it into Captivate 5 and publish, then the problems occur. So I know the AICC Quiz preferences are correctly selected and the overall publish options are also correct. My problem is that I have designed a new course in Captivate 5 (a .cptx file) that I cannot open with Captivate 4 and publish. So if I can't get things sorted with Captivate 5, then I will have to redo everything in Captivate 4 - and that is going to make me (and my customers) very unhappy!
    My understanding is that there are quite a few bugs within Captivate 5 and I just wonder if this is yet another? I'm using the MAC version of Captivate 5. Has anyone else had problems with AICC compatibility with Captivate 5?
    As an aside, looking through this forum, I have noticed that some of the bugs with Captivate 5 have been fixed by new / replacement files being sent to individuals directly from Adobe. This doesn't seem like a sensible way of releasing updates! Surely there must be a central repository of these bug fixes? Otherwise, how do I know I have got all the fixes?
    Thanks,
    Ian.

    Dear Ashwin,
    I downloaded and updated the CPSwf9Template.dll file and now the course published in AICC will launch and play, however, it will not communicate the “Complete” command to the LMS.
    See the error 404 for MMTracking.swf and now there is a new file refered to:  crossdomain.xml
    This is a simple course of 20 slides, self paced, score based upon the number of slides viewed.  I will be glad to send you the source files.
    Thank you,
    Gloria

  • Can Captivate be used with a LMS that is not SCORM compliant?

    We are currently using Flash for all of our online courses, but would like to switch to Captivate.
    Unfortunately, our LMS is not SCORM compliant. Is there a way to use Captivate with our LMS? We would need it to record test scores and student information. We're open to a third party solution.

    TLC is correct, you could report to your own DB.
    Reply to a similar question with webpointers:
    Ways to integrate captivate with a database?
    Is your LMS AICC compliant? Captivate will work with AICC as well.
    And while Adobe Connect is not technically SCORM compliant, Captivate will work with that as well.
    AND Captivate can track via xAPI (TinCan), so there's that option too...though I suspect if your LMS doesn't support SCORM, it probably doesn't support xAPI.
    So you have a few options...

  • LMS issue (Plateau 5.8) and Captivate 5

    Hi.
    We need help to solve the problem and get this Captivate 5 module to run on the Learning Management System.
    The module was set to publish in SCORM 1.2.
    Quiz = enable reporting for this project
    LMS Standard = SCORM 1.2
    Report Status = Complete / Incomplete
    Report to LMS = Percent
    Choose Report Data = Quiz Results Only
    Reporting Level = Report Score.
    The Plateau 5.8 LMS team is receiving the following error while trying to post and run a Captivate 5 module.
    The tech person discovered that what’s happening in the attached code is that the module will try to communicate with the LMS for 1 second.
    By that time if the LMS does not communicate back, an error is generated and the script times out.
    Since this threshold is really low, and the page may take more than this time to load, he tried updating the script to wait for a full minute before timing out.  (See below).  However, that did not solve the problem.
    This chunk of javascript code was created by Captivate, (on line 236 of the html file) when the module was published:
    1000 = 1 sec.  10,000 would be 10 seconds. He set the threshold to 1 min.  (added two zeros, i.e. (*100000).
    var timeCurrent_int = new Date().getTime();
                                                    var timeLimit_int = new Date().getTime() + (intIntervalSecs * 1000);
                                                    // This simply loops for a set period of time, waiting for the API to
                                                    // load and/or be found.  A better solution would be to use setInterval
                                                    // and on the timeout, redirect or load the resulting Captivate file.
                                                    while((g_objAPI == null) && timeCurrent_int < timeLimit_int)
                                                                    g_objAPI = getAPI(g_intAPIOrder);
                                                                    timeCurrent_int = new Date().getTime();
                                                    if(g_objAPI != null)
                                                                    strURLParams = "?SCORM_API=" + g_zAPIVersion + "&SCORM_TYPE=" + g_intAPIType;
    Is there a different setting, option, or preference to use from within Captivate 5 to get it to run properly on the LMS?  Or is there something else to change manually in the code to get it to work properly?
    There are hundreds of people waiting to take this module, so time is of the essence!
    Thanks.
    CB.

  • "HTTP Response Message" Window

    I am using CP4 with our Plateau LMS v5.8.  The pass/fail communicates wonderfully, the project closes like it's supposed to.  The only annoyance is an "HTTP Response Message" window that opens as soon as the project is initiated.  If I close this window, as soon as I advance to a new slide a new one opens up again.  The window opens up in a browser and it captures data from the LMS.  Here is a sample of what it looks like:
    Error=0
    error_text=successful
    version=2.0
    aicc_data=[core]
    Student_ID=B1781
    Credit=C
    Score=
    Time:00:00:00
    After evaluating the "index.html" file I have noticed several places where "POST" is listed.  I am wondering if one of these lines is causing a new window to populate.  Hope this makes sense.

    It looks like you're using AICC instead of SCORM as your method of communicating course data with the LMS.
    Have you tried outputting Captivate with SCORM settings instead to see if that works better with Plateau?
    Take a look at this page on the Captivate LMS Compatibility Guide for Plateau.

  • Bookmarking and Audio

    I have a title of 21 slides with audio and then a 10 question
    exam. The issue I am having in testing is that if I close the
    title, lets say on slide 5, the bookmarking works as it returns me
    to that page on relaunch. The problem is that it starts with the
    audio for the first slide and not the correct audio for slide 5. I
    am using Plateau LMS AICC. At this point I would just be happy if I
    could turn the booking marking off. Any Ideas?

    To just turn bookmarking off, it'll take some editing of the
    HTML file
    published with Captivate. Search this forum; I'm pretty sure
    someone
    posted the edits necessary to do this not too long ago.
    I don't like suggesting such a hack but have no idea
    otherwise why your
    course would resume at the proper slide but not the proper
    audio. All I
    can suggest is looking at the Advanced Audio dialog and see
    if anything
    looks...odd...?

  • Stuck with grey Loading... Screen

    Hi everybody,
    I am experiencing an issue with our eLearning modules. I'm not sure where the source of this issue lies, so here is what happens:
    1) The eLearning is opened on the LMS
    2) The user can normally do the eLearning
    3) He stops and closes the eLearning on let's say slide 7
    4) He reopens the eLearning but can't get pass the grey loading screen
    However if I reset the eLearning and close the eLearning on, let's say slide 6, the eLearning has no problems with opening it there again.
    If I delete the temporary files of the browser the eLearning can load with no problems, however if I close it on slide 7 it will get stuck again if reopened.
    I experience this with other eLearnings too.
    I am using IE7, we have got the latest Flash installed and we are creating the eLearnings with Captivate 5.
    I was googeling around and found out, that the grey loading... screen appears when the eLearning tries to communicate with the LMS (?).
    As I am quite a Newbie I'm not sure, how I can find out, how to solve this problem and if this is even a Captivate 5 problem.
    Can somebody help?

    It seems that there is an issue with some LMSs if bookmarking is ON, which it is by default in the Captivate LMS Customisation settings (Never Send Resume Data is unticked by default).  What may be happening here is that the LMS is sent some resume data on the user's first attempt, but when they come back for a second attempt, either the LMS is not sending the resume data properly, or the course module is not receiving what it needs, and as a result the module just gets stuck on the loading screen.
    I haven't been able to nail down exactly where the issue lies.  All I know is that disabling bookmarking seems to resolve it.  I keep hoping that one of the Adobe techs will chime on on these threads to tell us whether the issue is on the Captivate side or the LMS side, or the web browser side.

  • Scoring Discrepancies

    Help!  I have created Captivate 5 modules and simply loaded them as swf files to the LMS (I have been trying for 15 months to get BB to work with SCORM in gradebook unsuccessfully). So, students print out an ending certificate to turn in as proof.  Students go through the modules and answer 10 questions, weighted 10 points each.  However, because of problems getting the Captivate 5 certificate to work correctly, I am using the Captivate 4 certificate.  The problem is that students go through and get an 80% on the quiz results page, then advance to the certificate, which displays a totally random score (40%-Fail, 60% Fail, or just 10 points different and Pass). Some users are getting valid scores and other users distorted scores.  I have no idea what is going on, but I am at my wit's end.  I have 11 modules up for 100 employees, which translates to hundreds of hours of grief for us all.  I have rechecked all the variables and settings a dozen times. Why would some be getting bad certificates and some getting accurate certificates? (I thought it was the Active/Inactive timings on buttons, but evidently not the problem.)  I am desperate.

    OK.  Then you need to be aware that if you are NOT using the SCORM package output from Captivate your LMS is NOT going to pick up the scoring from your course modules as this will only work if the other required HTM, JS, and XML files are present that are required to support SCORM.
    I don't personally use BlackBoard LMS but I know that Lilybiri uses it all the time, so she may be able to share the secret with you about how to get it to work with Cp output.
    I've also got a page on the Captivate LMS Guide for BlackBoard, in case you haven't read it and tried the suggestions there:
    http://www.infosemantics.com.au/adobe-captivate-learning-managment-system-lms-guide/blackb oard

  • Captivate 5 not working with LMS when linking to AICC published file

    When we publish and link our Captivate 4 files. Everything works fine. Now that we've upgraded and tried launching the Captivate 5 files. We only get a loading screen. Can someone help us? We provide training for over 10,000 employees and train several departments to use Captivate for our LMS, but now with Captivate 5 not working it brings up a big issue for us.

    another HotFix worked for me:
    This is with reference to the issue you are facing with AICC courses on LMS.
    Please follow the steps mentioned below and let me know if this solves the issue for you.
    1.       Close Captivate if already launched.
    2.       Navigate to Captivate installed folder ( For Ex : C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate 5)
    3.       Navigate to folder “Templates”
    4.       Open folder “Publish”
    5.       Open folder “AICC”
    6.       Rename the HTM file “default.htm” to “default_old.htm”.
    7.       Download the zip the file from https://acrobat.com/#d=rZv8-z9C0z4PPMpqjbkZIQ , Unzip the contents and copy the HTM file “default.htm”
    8.       Paste it inside “AICC” folder.
    9.       Launch Captivate and open the project.
    10.   Re-publish the project and upload the content to LMS.
    Let me know if this solves the issue.
    Thanks,

    hope it works for you!

  • Adobe Captivate 4 - Tracking AICC to the LMS issue

    Hi,
    I created a Captivate 4 Quiz; I published the Quiz with the AICC reporting option and as a result Captivate 4 created the files shown below:
    I hosted all these files in the same server, same folder, and same domain where the Isoph Blue (Learn Something) LMS is installed. I also published the course from the LMS and it seems to be OK.
    When participants login and launch the course from the LMS the course works very well. All questions are shown, correct and incorrect answers are also shown at the end. The quiz window is closed at the end without problem.
    The issue is that there is not notification to the LMS of course completion, the Icon (located on the right of the image shown below) that tells the participant course is completed does not change the status. It does not change from Launch to Print Certificate status.
    The Captivate is not tracking correctly course completion to the LMS. So, we can not track user activity neither print the certificate at the end of the course.
    Can you please help me troubleshoot this issue?
    What can I do to make this course completion notification works with the LMS?
    I can provide more information, files and details on how I created the course, etc.
    Note: Isoph Blue is AICC compatible, there are other (*.aspx) courses that are tracked via AICC and they are tracked correctly, the issue is only with Captivate 4. We also have Captivate 3.

    Hi there
    I certainly cannot claim to be any sort of expert on the H.264 format, but Captivate 4 only produces SWF, EXE and AVI formats. So you are correct in that you would need to convert from either the SWF or AVI format to an H.264 format. From what I understand, AVI and MP4 are the two file extensions you may find H.264 file format used. So I suppose it's possible to say that if you have a CODEC (Compressor/Decompressor) installed for H.264, Captivate could spit out an AVI encoded in H.264 format.
    More information on H.264 at the links below:

  • AICC Captivate 4 won't send completion to GeoMetrix LMS

    Hi,
    I have a Captivate 4 course with several quiz questions. Completion criteria is pass/fail, scores only, report as score, report quiz results only. I am publishing in AICC format to the Training Partner 2009 LMS by GeoMetrix.
    The LMS will recogize scores, but it does not register a completion status when the quiz is passed successfully. This results in subsequent course accesses remaining in 'credit mode' rather than the desired 'no-credit' or 'review only' mode. In other words, users can still change their scores after they pass, and they should not be able to.
    Has anyone else experienced this issue with the GeoMetrix LMS? Is there a fix?
    thank you,
    Gary Poplawski

    Hi There,
    Welcome To Adobe Forum.
    However you can try using SCORM CLOUD as an LMS to upload the published output.
    Can you please try and upload the published output to an LMS called SCORM CLOUD.
    You can create a free trial account on scorm cloud using the following steps:
    Browse to  the link https://cloud.scorm.com/sc/guest/SignUpForm
    Now Create your free trial account.
    Now publish the output in a zip format (in the form of SWF with reporting option enable and choose “Scorm” from the option)
    Now sign in into scorm cloud and upload the course and launch the output.
    Please check the result and let us know if it works fine.
    Thanks and Regards

  • Does anyone Know why and AICC published file don´t display in the LMS?

    I have published a file as an AICC file and got the URL added into an LMS, (Sumtotal), when I try to launch the content the LMS window keeps saying Loading, however; when I click the URL link from my browser the content displays with no problem.
    I have been reviewing what might be the problem because I used to create content with Captivate 4 and I had no problem.
    Can anyone answer some questions I have:
    With the change to Captivate 5, a newer version of Flash is required?
    Is the file trying to call the Adobe website or may call items not on the domain we have permissions to (internally) access? if so can you provide what the domains are?
    I appreciate any help you can provide.
    Thanks

    We have encountered this issue as well, not just with Captivate 4 but with Adobe Presenter 7.0.7 as well.
    With Captivate 4, we have found that content published as AS3 and AICC will hang on the 'Initializing LMS...' page when launched from our SumTotal LMS (TotalLMS v8.2) if that content is located on a remote content server.  It will, however, launch properly and track correctly when the content is installed on a content server that is on the same domain as (and thus local to) the LMS itself.
    With Presenter 7.0.7 (which only publishes to AS3--there is no option for AS2), we have found that content published as AICC will take an excessive amount of time to load when launched from our SumTotal LMS and will not track correctly if that content is located on a remote content server.  It will, however, launch properly and track correctly when the content is installed on a content server that is on the same domain as the LMS itself.
    So, a common theme here is AS3.  We did try publishing a C4 test sample to different Flash Player versions as AS2, and it appears there is no issue there.  It's when we publish to AS3 as AICC and install on a remote content server that issues start cropping up.
    My gut is telling me that this is a crossdomain policy issue.  Would love for Adobe to investigate and offer a solution soon.

  • Creating AICC compliant Menu in Captivate 3

    Using Captivate 3 and publishing to AICC (for use in an LMS),
    would it be possible to access multiple units/chapters (in a
    specific order) from a menu page, check off the units as they are
    completed, and send that information to the LMS?
    Here’s an example: In a 3 unit course, when a user
    enters the course for the first time, only the 1st unit is enabled.
    When he/she completes unit 1, then unit 1 is checked off (and still
    enabled) and unit 2 becomes enabled. When he/she completes unit 2,
    then unit 2 is checked off (and still enabled) and unit 3 becomes
    enabled. When he/she completes unit 3, then unit 3 is checked off
    and the course is marked complete. On the menu page, the user would
    see an indication of completion as he/she completes the units
    (e.g., a check mark). This would also be sent to the LMS as a
    “bookmark” in case the user exits out before completing
    the whole course.
    Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!
