Captivate 4: Never Send Resume Data feature

I'm new to Captivate 4 and LMS. Want to make sure I understand the use of the LMS Customization Setting - Never Send Resume Data. Should that be deselected or selected in order for the user to be able to "bookmark" or return to the page where they left off? Thank you!!!

Hello,
This depends on the LMS, I think, anyway ours offers this opportunity.

  • Captivate 5 - Not sending LMS Finish

    All-
    I need your help to solve a frustrating problem.  I have been using Captivate for several years, and recently started using Captivate 5.  The courses I designed in the past were hosted on an LMS that was not SCORM compliant or even conformant.  We are transitioning to Element K which professes to be SCORM compliant.  I started by taking the courses which were built for the old LMS and turned on reporting.  I have made several test files with different settings, however, I see my problem in every case.
    Here are the settings from my most recent upload:
    Reporting enabled
    SCORM 1.2
    Template: Send tracking data at end
    Manifest: Mastery Score set to 90%
    Report Status: Complete/Incomplete
    Report to LMS as Percent
    Report Data: Quiz Results Only
    Reporting level: Interactions and Score
    LMS Customization Settings: checked - Never Send Resume Data; checked - Escape Version and Session ID (<--- What exactly does this do and why/why not check it)
    Project End options: Close Project
    If passing grade: Continue
    If failing grade: Infinite atttempts, show retake button
    My problems are as follows:
    Element K launches the course in a new window.  Upon successful completion of the course (passing grade of 90% or better), the results page offers the "Continue" button. When the "Continue" button is pressed, the slide progresses to the next slide which instructs the user to close the window.  When the window is closed, it appears that Captivate does not send an LMS Finish command to the LMS, so the course is not marked as complete.  I used the ADL's "Test Suite" on the course and it failed because the course did not send an LMS Finish Command, however, I found that tool hard to use and sometimes I couldn't get the course to load at all.  Probably my newbie fault, but I don't know.
    Is there something I need to set in Captivate to make it send the LMS Finish?
    Should I remove that last slide that clicking the "Continue" button takes you too?  I put in in there becuse clicking "Continue" on the Quiz results page does nothing at all (at least on the front end).
    Does the "Close Project" option under Project End Options send the LMS Finish command?  Should that be set to something else?
    Does the user have to click the "Continue" button on the Quiz results page to send the LMS Finish command?
    One one of my previous test courses, I unchecked "Never send Resume Data" as I wanted the user to be able to return to the course where they left off.  This worked fine until they completed the course (but was not marked as complete in the LMS due to the above problem); when they returned to the course again, they were sent to the last slide of the course (the one that tells them to close the window).  Will this always happen or will the bookmark "reset" once the course is shown as completed in the LMS?
    I am new to SCORM and what little I know has been learned by reading on the web/forums while searching for solutions to this problem.  Any suggestions, hints, tips or tricks with regards to SCORM and Captivate 5 and/or Element K would be appreciated.  I have exhausted the forums and even tried scanning some resource books to try and understand the settings within Captivate in regards to what they do and how it effects the course.
    Thanks in advance!
    Katherine

    HI
    I've learned that using the "Close Project" option is the best one. Make sure that the "result"slide offers the last button available for the user. The one that shows up as deafult, marked "Continue", is the one I use to end the course. Rename it "Close & Save". By doing this the course closes and the SCORM results are sent to the LMS.
    What I've noticed is that not all previous releases of browsers does this very well. 6 months ago, I couldn't make Safari, Opera, Chrome or FF work. But recent updates have fixed this. Today, Opera is the only one with an issue, it works,but very very slowly.
    Hope this helps:)

  • Captivate 3 not sending correct completion information

    Hi all, we are using Captivate 3, and are in the process of uploading our content to Element K's LMS.  We have tested some of the content, and its marking courses complete even though the completion criteria have not been met.  We have run through the content and achieved a failing grade, but the status changes to complete.
    Here is how we have set up our courses:
    In the Reporting Options, we have set Complete/Incomplete under Report Pass or Fail (Element K tells us they need this setting), Quiz Results only under Choose Report Data, Percent under Report Score to LMS as.  We have selected Never Send Resume Data under LMS Customization Settings.  In Pass or Fail options, we have 80 % or more of points to pass, and If failing grade Allow user Infinite attempts.  We are publishing as SCORM 1.2 (required by Element K).
    Can anyone shed some light on this?  Should a Captivate course send "completed" to the LMS on a failed assessment?  Help!  We are under very tight deadlines, so anything anyone can suggest would be appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Diane

    I've not lookede through the previous thread, but you've done variations on the settings?
    You have tried Pass/Fail instead of Complete/Incomplete? Generally, if you want a score to show, you need to use Pass/Fail. That's not always true, but a score is generally not associated with Complete/Incomplete in SCORM 1.2 (in my understanding).
    Have you tried the lesson through any test suite outside the LMS itself? That'd be my next step. The ADL Test Suite is the 'offical' tool for such testing but isn't very user friendly. Otherwise I'd suggest Rustici's Test Track
    http://www.scorm.com/scorm-solved/test-track/
    or the Reload Editor (which I've not used and am not 100% sure is for SCORM validation)
    http://www.reload.ac.uk
    Run the lesson through some SCORM tester and see if the values passed are what you expect. If not, change the settings, publish, and test again. A lot more efficient, hopefully, than going through the LMS itself and allows you to possibly determine an LMS issue over a lesson issue.

  • Remembering progress, capturing resume data without scorm

    Hi All, I have searched the forum and cannot find a fix for our specific needs, hopefully someone can point me in the right direction...
    Task: Remembering student progress to continue from where they left off
    Hurdles:
    We do not use scorm, and we use our own LMS. The problem we have at the moment is our courses are split into modules, at the end of each module we have an advanced action that points to a page that then logs the module as complete on our system and it allows them to continue from the next module once they log in.
    We want to switch this to remember each slide, just like other mainstream LMS do. Initially we thought about looking for the 'resume data' captivate sends out but we have had no luck. We don't use a TOC either. Is there any data that captivate sends out (ideally in the html5 version) that we can capture to use as a unique ID for that slide?
    OR
    Is there something else we can explore to try and get this feature added?
    Come on captivate gurus!

    Hi, sorry for the late reply.
    We do not use any standard for LMS, we publish to html and flash and we do not use Quiz's to score, we use quiz slides just as interactions to keep the user engaged and have our own test at the end of the courses.
    It is uploaded to an LMS created by our techie which is basically a system that 'plays' the published files in an iframe window or something similar. After each module the last slide has a continue button which points to a 'Congratulations' page which then logs that the user has completed the module and that is where they start from if they log out and return.
    So we have say 20-40 slides in each module, and we have a system that remembers each module that is not reliant on captivate in any way.
    It is driving us mad with problems and invonveniance for our learners - when things go wrong they have to re-sit the whole module. We have looked into getting a better LMS but it is very tricky as we have a complete custom built system that runs everything for the business and this taps in to that.
    After my own research I have found that the key to other LMS remembering individual slides is in the 'send resume data' field, is that right? I was hoping we could find out where it sends that data too, or where it could be picked up from and then get our techie team to grab it just like any other LMS would.
    At the moment a lot of the problems are being blamed on long modules, some of which are only 20 slides, the most being 45, which I do not see as a problem personally. It is a shame because captivate is such a lovely platform and this is not doing it justice at all.
    If I can point them in the right direction in terms of capturing this slide by slide continue data using info sent out from captivate, it might not fix all of the problems but it will mean trainees will only lose the time of 1 slide as opposed to 30.

  • Re-Randomizing questions when resume data is on?

    Hi there,
    I suspect I might know the answer I get for this but its worth an ask anyway.
    Is there a way of re-randomizing questions when taking a course with resume data on?
    I've been getting into the nitty gritty of captivate with the functions it sends and I have found the ones for randomizing the questions but I can't run them without knowing the correct parameters (all the variables have confusing names such as gqs, pqs and so on)
    I talked to Adobe support in regards this and was told that  custom scripts were not supported and I would have to pay extra for a Dev support contract if I wanted a (I assume) software developers take on things which I think is a bit unfair considering having randomized questions really should be a basic feature of a course authoring software.
    I was also looking at having resume data turned off in captivate and sending out my own which would track the viewed section variables along with the current page and then having a script for captivate jump to the required page once the course was opened.
    Anyone have any experience with using your own resume data or any other ideas?
    Cheers

    Ok: This is what I understood: You do not want to Display a whole column of 0's (for Feb) but you want the user to be aware that there were 0 deliveries for feb.
    So if you run the report for a Calmonth Range of 01.2006 to 06.2006, then just after the Free Chars in the report, you should see a row like Cal/Year Month Jan 2006..June 2006. This shows that the report was run for Jan to June range and the results show months Jan, March, April, May, June implying that there is no data for Feb.

  • Resume Reading feature

    Hi there,
    I'm trying to get a better understanding of the data streaming features that comes with the -hot forum topic- Batch eWay in caps 513. Its User Guide has a page on the "Resume Reading" feature of the BatchLocalFile OTD. It allows to read part by part from a large file and does this by remembering the break position in the file, so it knows where to start for reading the next part.
    - How does this got persisted? I guess it's just in memory.
    - What about a system failure during the read? Is there a kind of rollback mechanism foreseen?
    - collaboration rules define the break (identified by i.e. #recs, delimiter character), not by configuration. How?
    Anyone has experience with this feature ?
    Some code snippets would be very usefull.
    Thanks 4 any help on this
    Kris

    Hoi Kris,
    it works together with the Record parsers (BatchRecord OTD).
    The state is written to a file on the side of the domain. As it is meant to work in scenario as LocalFile-BatchRecord-BatchFTP or LocalFile-BatchRecord-JMS, the built-in features of Pre and Post transfer renaming give a pretty good transactional control.
    The thing to make sure is having synchronization enabled so execution is serialized. Also, when adding more logic on top of the BatchRecord features, it is suggested to set "Resume Reading" to false, which just means that it's not going to work perfectly in this situation (if you for example do double splitting on the input datastream and send them off as JMS messages).
    Hope this clarifies things a bit.

  • Completion Data and Resume Data

    Again, it seems there is yet another Completion Data and Resume Data question... sorry.
    My issue is that completion data isn't always being sent from my SCORM material to my LMS. I know there is a setting to set the completion data at X percent, but even then I would like to have something a bit more trusting on it. Is there a way (and I'm no developer/program/IT guy so please help in detail) to make so that on X slide that completion data is forced to be sent?
    This also plays into my next question: is there a way to force resume data on every page, every load? The bookmark feature is nice thank you Adobe staff for adding that, but its reliability for what my company is using is questionable at best. If there is no progress made within the lesson the resume data after having used it once isn't sent again - I need this to be sent on every slide upon entering or even better at a preset time on the slide, and always be sent regardless of number of accesses. Is this possible? It would solve a whole host of problems one being that we need to have the test scores entered into our LMS after a successful completion, and then have the slide fade out so the user cannot re-access, redo, copy, etc the quizzes.
    Thank you for the help,
    -Joseph

    I can't really help you with most of your questions, but I can confirm that a slide needs to be viewed 100% from start to end of the timeline before Captivate treats it as "read/viewed". It's the same problem when you are using the TOC - it will not get the check mark until the slide has played from A-Z, which is really annoying.
    /Michael

  • How to send joystick data over TCP connection

    Hi all,
    I am a long time Labview discussion forum user for learning, but this is my first time posting a question, I hope somebody can help me!
    In the attached VI I am trying to send data from a joystick over a TCP connection. I can send data fine using the TCP examples (in fact the majority of my VI is just a copy of the example). However I am to the point where I do not know how to send all the data necessary (3 axis data, 12 buttons, and the POV data) over TCP. Strings, clusters, and arrays were never my strong suite and converting between them is a nightmare for me.
    Basically I am trying to send each axis data (X,Y, and Z), button data (12 buttons), and POV data (the POV data will be calculated to adjust the position of a camera, so the immediate data is not important, I will add functions to add the change in the button movements to write a standing position for two servos [pan and tilt], for which that I will need to send over the TCP connection) over the TCP connection to control various cameras and motors. I don't know if it is posible to send that much data over a TCP connection in one write VI through a string, and also how to separate the string on the other side in order to control the client VI.
    Again, the actual TCP communication I get, and can operate fine, just formatting all the data into a string (or whatever is required) so that I can unpack on the other side is the issue here.
    Another question I have (not impotant to get the program running just might make it easier on me) is can a TCP server (which sends the data to the client) also recieve data back from the client on the same port ( for example sensor data and digital positions [on,off])? Or do I need to set up two TCP communication loops with the first client acting as the server on a different port than the first, which then sends the data to the original server, which also has a client TCP configuration in another loop? I hope this makes sense...
    One final question.....I already have a solution to this but using labview for the entirety of this project would be nice. I use skype to stream 1080p video from a webcam to my computer so I can view live feed. Can labview do this? This would be awesome if so, I am just not sure if the communication protocols in use could support real time (or as close as possible to streaming) for 1080p video.
    Thanks all in advance for your help,

    Well, you cast the axis info cluster to a string, but then you cast it back to an array of DBL. Thatr's not compatible. You should probably cast it back to an "axis info" cluster of exactly the same type. Go the the other VI and right-click the cluster wire to create a constant. Now move that diagram cluster constant to the other VI and use it as type.
    Your default ports don't seem to match. You seem to have client and server roles confused. In the sever you create a listener, but then you start sending packets, even though no connection is established. The connection needs to be initiated by the client.
    Your client stops the loop the first time a timeout is encountered. Shouldn't that be more permanent? Also, please retain code clarity and avoid unecessary complexities. For example, replace the "not or" with a plain "or" and change the loop to "stop if true"

    You can send as much as you want. The casting to/from string is the same as described above.

    The primary function of a "server" is to wait for a connection and then communicate with the client once a conenction is established. An established TCP/IP connection is fully two-way and both sides can send and receive.

  • I'm using a 1D Arrary with 27 different elements and would like to send those data over UDP Write and UDP Read functions.

    I'm using a 1D array with 27 different elements. I would like to transfer that data over a UDP connection, and read it back by using UDP connections.
    But I would like to read 3 elements at a time (On read side) and send those to 9 different ports.
    Note: the data will go to only one PC with one Network Address)
    * 1st elements (0,1,2) and send to port #XXX to see those 1st 3 elements.
    * continue until the elements reaches up to 27
    This is what I have done but I'm finding myself in pitfalls...
    Send side:
    I'm using a UDP Open connection on send side to send my data. So with selected a Source Port, I have created a UDP Op
    en connection. Im using only one source port to send all the data across the channel. I would like to read 1st 3 elements and send those data across with an assigned Destination port. I would like to do that for 9 times b/c there are 27 elements in the array. So Im using a For Loop and setting N count to 9. So Im not getting any errors when I execute and no answer on the other side at all.
    Read side:
    Im using a UDP Open connection to read in the data with port #. Im using while loop to with Boolean inside by making a true all the time. Inside that While loop, Im using For Loop to read the 3 elements data a time and send to a right port address. (As start out I was just trying to see if it works for only one port).

    You are not getting any errors because UDP is a connectionless protocol. It does not care if anyone receives it. Your example will work fine with the following considerations.
    (1) Don't use the generic broadcast address (255.255.255.255).
    (2) You are listening on port 30000. So why are you sending to port 1502, nobody will receive anything there.
    The destination port of the outgoing connection must match the server port of the listener. (The source port is irrelevant, set ot to zero and the system will use a free ephemeral port).
    (3) On the receiving side, you are not indexing on the received string, thus you only retain the last received element. Then you place the indicator outside the while loop where it never gets updated. :-(
    (4) Do yourself a favor and don't micromanage how the data is sent across. Just take the entire array, flatten it to string, send it across, receive it, unflatten back to array, and get on with the task.
    (You can do the same with any kind of data).
    I have modified your VI with some reasonable default values (destination IP = 127.0.0.1 (localhost)), thus you can run both on the same PC for testing "as is". Just run the "read" first, then every time you run "send", new data will be received.

  • Firefox automatically sends some data to mozilla so that we can improve your experience.

    i tried asking this in a similar topic and got no response and marked as answered so ill ask it again. i already had 'Enable Telemetry' and 'Enable Crash Reporter' disabled but i still got the popup. i'm not sure why firefox is saying it's automatically sending mozilla data when both options are disabled.
    it used to say
    will you help improve mozilla firefox by sending information about performance, hardware, usage and customizations to mozilla?
    but that was changed to
    firefox automatically sends some data to mozilla so that we can improve your experience.
    this makes me think firefox is still sending data regardless. so as long as both of those options are disabled firefox is not sending ANY info about me? if that's the case mozilla really needs to update the message. privacy policies are usually so vague and shadily written by lawyers that they are just about useless.

    Firefox 20 has a new message to prompt you to check your settings. This is in preparation for a future feature called health reporting, but currently the only categories are the same old ones: telemetry and crash data.

  • NEED AGENT activate data feature like customer service has for months due to error

    for the last 4 months customer service thru email has had to activate data after my plan renews i just found out the email option is gone. So i need an agent to do it below is what the agent said thru his email in june when they ask for me to reply via email. btw the error has been happening since April where my blackberry data turns off on verizons end and i can't get email or send or use browser or send and receive picture messages once my plan renews
    Good Morning Monica,
    Thank you for contacting Verizon Wireless once again, this is Mike again, and it's my pleasure to again enable your data feature for your account.
    I have once again activated the proper data feature on your account and I have submitted another error example. I have also found that this issue is common with blackberry devices and we are currently working on a solution. Until your data feature no longer needs to be activated by a representative each month, i will be more than happy to assist you with activating your data whenever your plan renews if you simply reply to this email and request that i activate the data.
    thank you, Monica for contacting
    Verizon wireless once again. We
    greatly appreciate that you provided us
    with another opportunity to assist you.
    again this is Mike, and it's my
    pleasure to activate your data feature
    once again. please continue to feel free to reply to this email or call customer service at (888)294-6804 if you ever
    have any other questions or concerns,
    thank you for choosing Verizon Wireless.

    I did a diagnostic check and this part came up. I think the BIS
    service is not connecting but i think it's on verizon's side. Each
    time the customer service agent turned on data on verizon's side it
    fixed the problem.
    I saw online many blackberry's have the issue like the agent told me.
    so i need for this to be fixed because i am paying for data.

  • Outgoing mail in sent folder never sends, consumes bandwidth, heats up device.

    I just filed a defect, the text of which I have copied below in part. I'm wondering though if anyone else has seen this, and if they have has it occured to them repeatedly? I'm wondering if I need to really keep an eye on my mail problem to make sure I don't keep incuring charges from AT&T and risk setting my phone on fire
    Summary: Outgoing mail in sent folder never sends, consumes bandwidth, heats up device.
    Symptom: Device heats up to an almost unbearable temperature. Meanwhile in 18 hours the phone chews up over 2 gigbytes of cellular data, even though the phone sat next to a wireless G router, which it stayed connected to, and the connection remained good. I won't claim they are related, only that they occured at the same time.
    Point of interest, putting the phone in "Airplane Mode" cooled the device down immediately. Restarting the device helped, unless the email app was opened up after restarting. Same thing with killing the app, cooled down until the email client was opened again. I figured this out over the course of 18 hours.
    Steps to Reproduce:
    I have not tried to reproduce this issue yet, but here are the actions I took prior to getting into the bad state.
    Pre-conditions of the phone: I was connected to a good wifi signal. I had good 3G service. Phone was not experiencing any problems.
    1. Took a picture with the camera. Sent picture via email (using iphone client through gmail server).
    2. Did step 1 again with a different picture.
    3. Took a 43 second movie, which was about 50mb. Attempted to send movie via email same as the pictures.
    Expected Results:
    The movie would have sent after a reasonable amount of time.
    Actual Results:
    According to AT&T, 196,265 KB of data was sent in the hour following my attempt to email the movie.
    After restarting the phone, I must have killed its attempts at sending, at least via 3G. However I checked my email via my phone again right before bed. I woke up the next morning to find my phone had become extremely hot yet again. AT&T claims I used 1,890,652 KB (not a typo) that night while I slept.
    I restarted my phone the next morning and that "fixed" it again. Until around noon I finally figured out that it was my opening the email client that was triggering the heat. At this point I noticed that the email with the attached movie was still "Sending". I could not kill or delete the email, killing the app and restarting the phone did not stop or fix it. I had to put the phone in Airplane mode, which caused the email client to give me a proper error, and then I was able to delete the email. I have had no over heating issues since.
    Regression:
    Getting charged an extra $20 in data usage by AT&T.
    Notes:
    As stated, I have not tried to reproduce this yet. I am slightly fearful that I will accidentally incur another $20 worth of data usage unknowingly. My phone has never been jailbroken or in other ways modified, and has experienced no other issues or trauma recently. I've owned the phone for 2 years and it was bought brand new.

    In my opinion there is only one way to get this issue fixed -> contact Apple:

    Rafi Shaik

    Hi Rafi,
    We are also facing similar kind of issue.
    When i select type of leave as annual it is giving an error message as
    " Parameter  missing in call of method BUILD_ACTOR_SELECT_CLAUSE in class CA_PT_REQ_ACTOR "
    But when i select some other leave type and click review it is working fine, again if i click on previous step and change the leave type to annual it is working fine without giving any error message.
    Please let us know how you have solved your issue?
    Thanks.

    Var array = $_POST['myData'];
    array[0] => 'ABC'

    how to improve this code to support send array data...?
    String url ="http://xxxxx/test.php";
    String[] arraystr={"ABC", "DEF", "EDFF"}
    String parameter = "myData=" +arraystr;    // no support this
    Strint str = postMrthod(url, parameter );
    public static String postMethod(String url, String parameter) {
            StringBuffer b = new StringBuffer("");
            HttpConnection hc = null;
            InputStream in = null;
            OutputStream out = null;
            try {
                hc = (HttpConnection) Connector.open(url);
                hc.setRequestMethod(HttpConnection.POST);
                hc.setRequestProperty("CONTENT-TYPE", "application/x-www-form-urlencoded");
                hc.setRequestProperty("User-Agent", "Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.0");
                out = hc.openOutputStream();
                byte postmsg[] = parameter.getBytes();
                for (int i = 0; i < postmsg.length; i++) {
                    out.write(postmsg);
    out.flush();
    in = hc.openInputStream();
    int ch;
    while ((ch = in.read()) != -1) {
    b.append((char) ch);
    } catch (IOException e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
    try {
    if (in != null) {
    in.close();
    if (hc != null) {
    hc.close();
    } catch (IOException e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
    return b.toString().trim();

    yes, you can send integer value like this. But I think you have to put quotes around <%= TAMID%> i.e.
    <input type="hidden" id="HTTP_CVHTAMID"
    name="HTTP_CVHTAMID" value= "<%= TAMID%>" >
