Captivate 4 projects and Moodle don't communicate

Hi,
I am struggling with getting my captivate 4 modules to talk to our internally created LMS and also with Moodle.
With my captivate3 modules, I did not have any problems.
Are there certain settings that I have to use?
Do I have to adjust some file manually?
It would be great if you could help.
Cheers, Helga
PS I will attach my mini test file, just in case that might help with my issue.

Helga,
Although Michael is right, it could be a problem with the Moodle install, if you're publishing to SCORM 2004, I've heard others have issues with SCORM 2004 with Moodle as well.  SCORM 1.2 support seems to be pretty solid, so unless there is a contract requirement or burning reason to use SCORM 2004, 1.2 works in the vast majority of cases just fine, is easier to deal with, and more consistently supported between most current LMS vendors.

  • VSTS Controller and Agent don't communicate

We are doing an exercise of load testing a website using VSTS 2010 with multiple machines as clients. To do so, we have tried setting up controller and agent in 2 different machines,
Machine1 (Controller) and Machine2 (Agent). When the test is initiated from Machine 1 (This machine has VSTS 2010 installed) , Machine 2 is not providing any load to the test. The tests are configured to run as a service. The
results were same when running the tests as a interactive process instead of a service
To tests the setup of the machines the following tests were conducted
The below services were successfully run from both the machines
    Performance logs and Alerts
    Performance counter DLL host
    Remote registry
Setting the execution method as Remote Execution under Edit
    Test Settings > Roles
The agent machine is also getting displayed under Test >
Manage Test Controller; we are able to take the agent machine online
The controller and agent machines were able to communicate using the Typeperf command
When load test is run with this configuration we don’t see any Page Response/Key Indicators in the graph and there are no errors in the test run or in the event viewer although we can see Controller/Agent graph getting generated. During this time, there
were no updates in the database but whenever we ran the test setting with execution method as
Local Execution, the test runs successfully with having transacted to the database.
This configuration was done on our client’s environment where we have McAfee anti-virus running and windows firewall is enabled.
Please let us know how to go forward with this. Is there anything missing in the configuration.

    Hi Gautam_ap,
Thank you for posting in MSDN forum.
According to your description, it seems that you are trying run load test remotely from VS2010 with test controller and test agent, but the load test run fail remotely.
Based on your issue, could you please share me the detailed error message about you run load test remotely from VS2010 failed?
As far as I know that if we want to run the load test remotely from VS2010,we will need to ensure that the version of the test controller and test agent are same with the VS2010. So please you check if you are install the Test Controller 2010
    and Test Agent 2010.
As you said that you have McAfee anti-virus running and windows firewall is enabled, please disable the anti-virus and windows firewall and then check this issue.
Generally, I know that if you want to run automated tests that interact with the desktop, you must set up your agent to run as a process instead of a service. For example, if you want to run a coded UI test remotely using a test controller and test agent,
you must set up your agent to run as a process.
Since you are running the load test remotely from VS IDE with test controller and test agent, so you will not need to run the load test as a interactive process instead of a service.
Therefore, I suggest you could also refer the following MSDN document to check this test controller and test agent install and configure for running load test remotely in the VS2010.

  • Captivate 4, FLVs and Moodle

    Hey folks,
I know this has been discussed in a couple of other discussions, but even after following all the advice, I am going insane and have wasted 10 hours and counting...
The issue is that I am producing SCORM actvities for Moodle:
    1. Creating an activity in Captivate 4 - no probs
    2. Importing as an activity into Moodle - no probs
    3. Playing in Moodle - no probs except for the FLVs do not show up. No error message, just a blank screen where the video should be
I have tried all of the following, and it has not helped:
    - Used relative paths, in fact, kept the videos in the same folder as the swf for safety (ie, in Captivate, the path is just "video.flv").
    - Tried absolute paths as well as paths to a server URL
    - ensured no special characters in video name
    - ensured meta data present in video
    - set the MIME type on the server
    - confirmed that all file uploaded and unzipped successfully
    - Tried it with Moodle filters enabled and disabled
    For additional sanity:
    - submitted to SCORM Test Track - I can see the video there
    - played the swf directly from my server - I can see the video there
    Argghhhh! Any ideas?
    Thanks, Chris

I can appreciate that not being able to get your FLVs working after spending so much time is very frustrating.
My suggestion for debugging this is to try and see what path the server is looking at when trying to find and serve up the FLV video.  You could try downloading Charles (http://www.charlesproxy.com/download/) and use this to try and view the actual file path of the request for the FLV when called.  If the file path is correct, then your issue may be related to security permissions.
Have you set up a replica Moodle TEST environment on your own development machine?  Does the same package and FLV work when you test via Localhost?  If it does, then my bet would be some restriction in the setup of your production Moodle server or the web server it's running on, or permissions on the folder where the FLVs are being served from.

  • Captivate 5.5 and Moodle 2.1

I create some scrom package with Captivate and uploaded it to Moodle, our learning management system.
The thing is it takes a lot of time to load when I click the course start button.
I had to wait and watch my preloader "loading" for a while.
I optimzed the file and remove all the unnecessary files, and the current file size is 19.2 mb.
    Is it still too large?
Is it Moodle's issue or I can do something within Captivate?
    Sami

Along with Aditya's reply, there are alot of things that can influence load time:
    1. How 'quick' is the server the LMS is hosted on? Is it well-equipped?
    2. How fast is the LMS server's internet connection? How saturated is it?
    3. What's the speed/latency and status of the connection between the user's machine and the LMS server?
    4. How's the user's internet connection?
    5. What's the spec of the user's computer? Can it render a large file in a reasonable amount of time?
    and, of course...
    6. How large is the lesson file? The larger it is, the longer it'll take to get to the user.
Regarding the preloader, note the balance...
You can set it closer to 10%, which means the lesson should start for the user faster...but you could get delays between pages as the rest of the content is still being loaded.
Or you can set it closer to 100%, so all content is loaded to the user's computer before it starts playing...so a nice experience once the lesson starts...but it'll take longer for the lesson to start...

Adobe Captivate 7 Project How to make Rollover cations, audio, and video work in HTML format?

Honestly, I don't even know why this is an option. The conversion to Flash is completely unusable.
I have exported some things to Flash, and since I program in Flash all the time I was able to manipulate to work to some degree. Most text captions are built with multiple elements and completely fall apart.
Sorry, I can't be of more help.

  • Adobe Captivate 8 projects published to HTML 5 shows major loading problems and stops

Adobe Captivate 8 projects published to HTML 5 cause major loading problems in most browsers(IE 11, Chrome v. 35.0, Firefox v. 31). Loading… (screen)
The view stops after a while and only the Loading… (icon) can be seen on the page.
Is this a known problem with Captivate projects published to html5 and is there a way to fix it? What is wrong?
Test the html5 version of this project at: http://kurs.dokker.no/captivate/
and see for yourself what happends.

I changed the Preferences/Project/Start and End  Preloader % to 25 and published the projects again. The course: http://kurs.dokker.no/captivate/elev/
stopped like before on one of the first slides, loading… screen like before in IE11.
In Chrome v. 37.0 the course worked badly, would not run, sound missing and buttons not working.
In Firefox 31.0 the course worked to a degree even if the program was advising to use another browser for this content.
In Opera 23.0 sound was missing and else working as bad as IE.
All this testes is done on a PC using Windows 8 connected på internet via ethernet, download speed: 66.57.
I would like to use the HTML5-format since it has a cleaner view than swf-files that appear to be jagged, but there is a lot missing before Adobe Captivates html5 publish is where it needs to be. Her are the complete html5 course and here are the swf based course for comparison.

  • Captivate 8 project - how is resultion actually determined ? i have video demo , imported ppt, quiz. i see a number, i don;t see hw it was determined or how to change it

bottom right says 960x720 . i search and search, but i find no discusssion of this and i don;t see any explicit control method.
Should i care ? I think I do, since captured video text is ugly or unreadable at wrong resolution or scaling factor.

Powerpoint is a weird application, but that is only my personal opinion, because the 'resolution' is specified in print units like cm or in which is insane for an application that is primarily meant for screen views.
Captivate's resolution is (logicallly) in pixels, and 920x720 is in px. When importing a PPT CP translates the print units to pixels.
Best practice is to create a Captivate file in the resolution you want to publish it, each rescaling will lead to a decrease in quality. Project rescale is first option in the Modify menu. If you are creating a responsive project, you'll have the choice for 3 such resolutions: Primary (desktop), Tablet (for Portrait mode on tablet) and mobile (Phone). Each breakpoint view can have a (slightly) different layout and between those resolutions the project will rescale, keeping the layout of the higher breakpoint.

  • Using Captivate 2 and Captivate 1 project

I previously created a project using Captivate 1. Now I've
upgraded to Captivate 2. Using Captivate 2 I opened my existing
project. It seemed to convert okay and I've worked on it for a lot
of hours over the last 2 days.
Captivate 2 keeps hanging (not responding) whilst I'm working
on this project and sometimes it just closes with no warning at
all. One of my colleagues has had a similar problem. Another of my
colleagues has had no problem at all but she is only working on
    projects created with Captivate 2.
Today when Captivate 2 hung, when I opened it again I could
not open the project. I got the following message -
" Adobe Captivate could not open (then it gave the file name)
"... .cp " because it is either not a supported file type or
because the file has been damaged (for example it was sent as an
    e-mail attachment and wasn't properly decoded). "
Please can anyone help me to get my file back?
I can't bear the thought of having lost all that creative
    work?
I'm guessing it's because it was created in Captivate 1 so if
I can get the file back, can anyone help me to stop it happening
    again?
    Yours frustrated and sad!

    Hi again ~
The same people look at all the new posts on all the forums,
    so please, Hazel,
make a note that double-posting a problem to multiple forums can
be very confusing and time wasting to those of us who regularly
try to help. Your other (double) post is
    located
    at this link
I promise that a single posting will result in a solution as
    quickly as several (
    probably
more quickly - because look at the time it is taking me to
write this). If you don't get help with a problem, there is a
good possibility that the problem doesn't lend itself to a known
solution - in ohter words, the "experts" here are stumped. It
doesn't happen often, but of course it is always a possibility.
    Thanks much!

  • Captivate 8 print widget does not print in landscape; prints full resolution of project and not just the certificate?

I am new to Captivate and am tasked with learning how to use Captivate 8.  I need to add a certificate of completion to the end of my project and have many questions for which I cannot find any answers! Please, if anyone can answer these:
    1) I do not want the certificate to be printed until the score of the quiz reaches a specific minimum - for example, you need a score of 80% or better to print a certificate.  How do I do this with the print widget?
    2) I want the certificate to print out without the slide background and without the project's resolution - in other words, I only want the certificate image (with added text box for name) to print, IN LANDSCAPE, without the user having to make all the adjustments on their end (choosing landscape over portrait with their printer).  How is this accomplised?
    3) I want a date entered on the certificate - how do I add this specific element?
Without a certificate widget and the use of Flash with this version, I am confused as to how exactly Captivate provides the ability to print certificates?  I do not know HTML5, and am spotty with Javascript.  Why would a feature such as certificates and the ability to print them be such a clandestine thing?  No tutorials, no clear advice on how exactly to achieve this widely popular feature of training material development.  Seems to me that it should be MUCH easier to accomplish, but I'm stumped at this point.

The solution I found is this:
Don't use the print widget in Captivate 8. It simply does not work the way it should be able to work.  Unless you are capable of scripting in Actionscript 2.0 and have access to an older version of Captivate, there is no way to get around this bug.
The problem I discovered is that Captivate 8 will only allow you to use Actionscript 3.0 in Flash; you can open the widget in Flash, but you MUST open it through Captivate first if you intend to use it in Captivate.  So, once you open the widget for adjustments through Captivate, it automatically chooses AS 3.0 as the scripting language to use, no other choice is available.  IF you have Captivate 7 or lower, however, it allows you to script in AS 2.0.  I do not, so I cannot assist you in scripting the widget.
What I ended up doing was, I made my own certifcate in Photoshop, saved it as a .PNG, and added it to the last page. Using the internal coding of Captivate I told the program to only go to that slide upon success of the quiz.
To Print:  go to Window > Skin Editor.  On the left are check boxes for playbar choices - check off 'Show Playback Control,' and then choose your theme. From the dropdown, choose "print."  If you don't want anything else on the playbar, then check those items off; Choose where you want the playbar to show (I chose bottom and bottom center). See below:
You can see the icons on the bottom, in the center.  The icon to the left is the Print button.  This works well, though you may have to make print choices from your local print dialog.  I have to tell it to print landscape, for instance, otherwise it prints portait and too small.  But this does work, and it solves the issue of non-working print widgets.

Some of the film clips copy into the project but others don't. I tried copying the VOB filed onto my hard drive and then changing the file extensions on the VOB files to MPEG but this was no help. Some of the VOB files contain numerous film clips but my software does not appear to be able to recognize them as such. What do you have now.....
What computer operating system do you have?
We can go into the finer points of source and your intentions, but for now it would appear that you are using SD 4:3 source media to get to a HD 16:9 result. Lots to discuss in this regard.
What was given to you on the DVD disc? DVD-VIDEO 4:3 or something else?
If DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc, you should expect to find on the disc a folder named VIDEO_TS. That is your target for your video files.
If you were given a DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc, then all you want from it are the video files, specifically
VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VOB, and so on through that series until possibly getting to
VTS_02_1.VOB, and so on. How many files you have beyond the VTS_01_1.VOB file will depend on the size of the DVD-VIDEO.
Does the above scenario apply to you?
The alternative might be someone giving a DVD disc (data disc) which contains just the VTS files mentioned which were copied from
the VIDEO_TS Folder. So, you do not get the whole VIDEO_TS Folder, just the essential video files. Does this scenario apply to you.
I see no need to replace your Premiere Elements 4 with a later version unless you have a huge project and need a later version that will be a 64 bit application running specifically on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit computer.
Consider...Premiere Elements 4 and if you have DVD-VIDEO on DVD....
    1. Place the DVD disc in the burner tray
    2. Open Premiere Elements 4 and set the project preset for NTSC DV Standard (assuming you are working in a NTSC setup)
    3. Go to
    Get Media
"DVD, Digital Camera, Mobile Phone, Hard Drive Camcorder, Card Reader"
"Adobe Premiere Elements - Media Downloader" and its Advanced dialog.
Set the Source in the latter dialog for the drive which has your DVD disc inserted in its tray
You should see your VTS_01_1.VOB thumbnail in the "Adobe Premiere Elements - Media Downloader" Advanced dialog.
With this VOB selected, click on Get Media to get the file from there into the project.
    Should work fine.
Complications may be involved if the people who processed your footage gave you something other what is described above.
Please review and consider, and then we can plan our project strategy accordingly.
    Thank you.

  • I have produced several short iMovie projects and want to link them into a continuous stream on a DVD.  Can it be done?  All of the projects are in my Moblie Me Gallery

I have produced several short (2 to 3 minute) iMovie projects and want to link them in a continuous stream on a DVD.  The clips are in my Mobile Me gallery.  How can it be done?

You can do that too, it's all in the iDVD program.
But first you want to assemble the separate clips into one big long clip. For that you would use iMovie. Share to the Media Browser (choose the Large size). Let it export then quit iMovie.
Open iDVD, click on the Media button and then the Movies button. Under the iMovie star icon you will see your final assembled clips movie. In the iDVD project window turn on the map view (it's little boxes that look like a flowchart) then drag the iMovie project into the first box:
You can set the project to startup without a Menu, and then loop continuously as well. Go up to the Advanced Menu then click on the Loop movie option to turn it on.
Once checked the Loop movie status will appear as curved arrow icon in the Project Window:
In the lower right corner is the icon indicating this video clip will loop while being played.

    Thank you Ross.
The entire DVD containing Quick Time movies (Final CutExpress project) and slideshow was done in iPhoto.  The Final Cut project was rendered prior to export to QT,  the slideshow was sent to iDVD withoutrendering. The slideshow with most of the pictures from my still camera incombination with stills from movie clips and some downloaded from the Internet. After burning, the movie playback is perfect but the slideshow is not.  The slideshow containing 3 differentkinds of pictures; those from my still camera looks OK; the stills from themovie clips and from the Internet are not.  I don’t have much knowledge in this game, but I think NTSCwith frame size 720x480, and the downloaded picture Item Property shows most ofthem are between 400 to 500 x 300 to 600, may be both of them are not suitablefor TV screen while the stills from my still camera looks OK because they are2048x1536.  Please enlightenme.  Once again, thank you so much,I really appreciate the time you offered.
