Captivate 4 Publishing Stops

Publishing projects in Captivate 4 stops.
"Progress: Generating Slides" won't advance anymore, and the only left option is to close it,opening and republishing project still won't work,  worst I can't publish anything in my Captivate projects containing a TOC. Any possible workaround for this?
Thanks.
Miguel

Hi Miguel
Have you tried disabling all compression? I've seen that work to correct a problem similar to yours.

  • Captivate not publishing mpeg-4 video's or uploading to youtube

    Hi,
Got a really annoying problem with Captivate 5.5, it's the trial version and until this I was intending to buy the product. But I've just spent a day producing a video with it, the project comes to 1.8Gb so it's not small.
Anyway, it all works fine, until I click on File > Publish > Select MP4 Video(*.mp4) > Select the Apple iPhone 4/ Apple iPod Preset and click on Publish.
The software launches does it's pop-up dialoge thing and Adobe Captivate Video Publisher appears with a second progress box saying "Generating Video..." the progress bar sat at 0% while I went away and watched a 2 hour movie. All it says under the progress bar is "Initializing..." and it does bugger all else. I've rebooted the PC, and tried several times with absolutely no sucess.
The project exports as a SWF and EXE file just fine. But the process balls up when exporting a .MP4 file. I've even tried different formats. But as far as I can tell the sodding thing isn't even starting the encode.
The software is running in administrator mode, and exporting to a file location that isn't protected by UAC so there's no reason for it I've even disabled my virus software just in case that was lagging the system down. But nothing I do seems to make the damndest bit of difference.
Can someone offer any advice. I'm not spending hundreds of pounds on software that can't even export to MP4, not when Camtasia does it just fine.
    (System spec, Windows 64, 4Gb RAM, 3.0 Dual core, nVidia 8800GTS 320Mb)

No it's not dragging it's feet. I can deal with dragging feet. If I had to leave my system rendering for a day, so be it. I spend more time then that rendering CGI graphics. It's not "dragging it's feet" it's not even getting up out of the sofa. It can't be arsed. Error reporting? Not for Adobe! None of that peasky information for users from them! No, lets just leave them sitting there waiting while it "initializes" that's real helpful. Sitting there with a 0% bar. No helpful information like "whow dude your project is MASSIVE, this will take a while." no handy progress bar showing how the initialization is going. No no, none of that for Adobe. That would be too helpful. Obviously they're going to charge you so much money for the single most unprofessional peace of tat I've ever had the misfortune to use.
P.S. I chopped up the project, into no more than 15 minute segments. It managed to render out the first 4, how it's doing exactly the damn same thing for section 5. Apparently 15 minutes of real world tutorial too much to expect as well.
P.S.S. It's hundreds of megabytes isn't a problem in this day and age. I can download a 500Mb file in what? Half an hour? Perhaps 2 for slower users. Hell I download games from Direct2Drive totalling 8.7Gb takes a coulpe of days, but there's no problem doing it. As for users without broadband, DVD's hold 4.7Gb, couple of those isn'g a problem. I've got other solutions that will stick 5 - 7 hours of HD interactive content onto a single DVD without a problem. The only real world bandwidth colleges really have to use is whatever it takes to report the examination statistic and answers at the end of the session. I don't think a PC is sold these days with less than 80Gb, and single issue network deployment solutions aren't a problem.
It's not like their streaming system is worth damn, if you're worried about users running off with your materials. There's no effective DRM solution built into captivate so nothing stopping users capturing the stream and re-hosting it. Not low bandwidth sales pitch they've got you on is totally insane. I can't see any way in which this product can justify it's price tag. I can only imagine there's educational material out there that's so bad it's making users wonder why they pay for the course in the first place.
Sod it, I'll program the thing in C++ that'll shave off a few gigabytes given the bloated shite Captivate generates. 1.8 is a sodding joke. I can encode 2.5 hour movies at just over 1.2gb in freaking 720p HD. This thing can't even manage 50 minutes of full motion content, and 40 minutes of still images with mpeg-3 compressed audio inserted into the slide. 1.8 Gb for 50 minutes FMV?

  • Adobe Captivate Help | Publish projects as HTML5 files

This question was posted in response to the following article: http://helpx.adobe.com/captivate/using/publish-projects-html5-files.html

I opened a captivate project and published as HTML5. It worked in a browser on the desktop. then I tried it on an iPad. That also worked. Then I tried it on an iPhone. that worked, but the document was far too large for the iphone to display. I was curious as to whether or not the "scale html content" check box would make a difference for iphone, so I tried it. It did fix that problem, but, as expected, it broke the animations. Now when I try to publish to HTML5 it creates a sort-of hybrid, where the document is the correct dimensions in a browser on the desktop, but it is forced into smaller dimensions on the iPad, and no where do the animations work anymore, although the "scale html content" check box is unchecked. I used the Captivate cache clearing button in preferences and cleared my browser cache on the iPad, restarted the computer, etc. To no avail. It seems using the "scale html content" has permanently broken Captivate 7. I am now considering reinstalling it.

  • Trouble viewing Captivate 8 published output.

Trouble viewing Captivate 8 published output.  I created a course for a client who also wants a video of it.  I published and I can see it on my end, but when I send them the files using DropBox, they can't open the .SWF, the Chrome.HTML, or the AVI or MP4's I've put out there.  At first I thought it was operator error, but there are 5 people who can't view them.  Was I supposed to add other supporting docs that were not in the Published folder?
    Help, please.
    Teresa

That's what I thought too.  I wonder if they are trying to run it right out of Dropbox.  I also told them they could right click and open in Internet Explorer if Chrome was problematic.
So I only have to provide the packaged file right?  I've always just delivered the published folder, so I was really at a loss as to why they can't run it.  Could this also be a Systems Security issue?  Perhaps their employer blocks this sort of action?
Thanks so much for your input.  I really appreciate the help (and validation).

  • Newsstand Subscription - Publisher stop the publication

    Hi there,
Do you know how Apple do or subscriber can do if the publisher stop the publication in Newsstand App and the subscription is still active?
Recently I just got this problem for MacPeople which is published by Japanese publisher.
I opened cases to Apple Support but either they said No Refund due to Apple policy or no response from support...
I just got 2 of 12 issues from the subscription and this really makes me lose the trust in Apple Newsstand ... :-(
    Thanks anyway.
    With Regards

For Newsstand subscriptions, you're bound to Apple's price tiers. In this case, you would create a subscription duration of 1-year that uses Tier 8 ($7.99). That would give users access to all folios published between the start date and end date, plus the most recently published folio. See http://help.adobe.com/en_US/ppcompdoc/Adobe_Publishing_Companion_Guide_for_iPad.pdf.
You can set your own pricing only in a Newsstand app if you create an app with iTunes subscriptions and direct entitlement. That way, users could purchase a subscription either through iTunes (which uses Apple's pricing tiers) or they could buy access directly through your custom entitlement service. Your entitlement server would have whatever pricing and entitlement options you set up. See Entitlement | Adobe Developer Connection.

  • Captivate 3 Published file won't execute JavaScript

Pulbished Captivate 3 course.   Final screen has an exit button with the following script:  ab_SetScoreStatus(100,'completed');ab_CloseWindow();       When I post the course to our LMS it uploads fine, but when I try and run the course I get an error when I click on the Exit button and it doesn't do anything.   I had someone try the same thing on their computer and it works fine for them so I'm thinking it's something with my settings.   This used to work for me but then I got a new computer so not sure if the settings (IE, Flash or ????) are different or what.   I'm running Flash 10, and IE 8.   Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Good morning Rick, and thank you for trying to help.

  • Adobe Captivate not publishing results

    Hi,
We appear to be having a problem with Captivate where it's not publishing results to a network drive.
We have applied the fix as details below:
    http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager04.htm l
3rd tab along, click 'Always Allow'
    Add
    T:\
    \\my-network-path\tdrive\
I have tried this however its not publishing results.
Does anyone have any ideas on why this would not be working?
    Thanks

The Flash Global Security settings govern whether or not content on a LAN or remote drive will play properly for the user that adds this location to their trusted settings.  However, it doesn't necessarily give you PERMISSION TO UPLOAD published content to that location.
If you're having difficulty getting Captivate content published TO the location (as opposed to playing it from there) then you need to investigate whether or not you have write permissions for that folder.  This is  network administration thing, not usually connected to Flash security. It could also be that there is some restriction built into your IT network that will only allow certain filetypes to be uploaded.
Bottom line is that you may need to check with your IT dudes.

  • Captivate 8 Publish to Print

I'm feeling rather blind right now. Where is the Publish to Print option on the Captivate 8 Publish dialog box? We use this feature constantly to send projects for review as Handouts in Microsoft Word.

Okay - I see it. Select File > Export > Project Captions and Closed Captions... but the format is duplicative. None of my subject matter experts would understand it. Am I going to have to go into the Handouts template and make changes?

  • Does captivate 6 publish AICC 3.5?

    Hi
What version of AICC does captivate 6 publish too?
How can I tell, in the publish setting I only see AICC as the option?
If it's different, how can I change it to be 3.5?
    Thanks

I've looked and yes the only option is listed as AICC. The list of supported LMS's has this contact info though:
"If you have any issues, please write to this email – [email protected] "
So perhaps if you emailed them they can answer your question.

  • Captivate 4 video stops when publishing into pdf

I have created a video with Captivate 4 and have published it into a pdf file.
The video/audio then freezes and stops half way through, almost as if when it was moving onto a new slide.
I have tried publishing to html instead, and it works fine.
Any suggestions on how to get the pdf up and running?
    Thanks!

    Hi there
Not that it will actually help anything, but if you can supply me with one of the Camtasia AVI files, I'll be happy to test for you on my end. I do have Captivate 1, 2, 3 and 4 all on the same machine.
Also, I wasn't suggesting that Camtasia could automatically accomplish this. What I was suggesting was that you could open the video in Camtasia and use it as you would Captivate. You could split the video yourself. Pare away some, publish it as a smaller segment that you would drop into Captivate. Rinse and repeat as needed. Assuming, of course, that your goal is to get this into Captivate.

  • Captivate Video Publisher

I want to create a Video with Captivate 6 for Mac. The Video Publisher gives me the following Messager and stops the creating:
    What's that?
    Greetings from Hamburg
    Paul

I'm using iMac 10.7.5, captivate 6, files all on hard drive.
I am getting similar issues.  Project works fine when publishing to HTML5 - it creates 3 sub mp4s in a folder.  However, when I try publishing to MP4 in the options it creates a video of the correct length but screen freezes a few seconds in.
I didn't get any error message but following pal v's advice and reducing the size, I get the yellow triangle as everyone else does.
Is it any use that I've used a custom size for this video?   Also, I've recorded screen as video.

  • Captivate Audio Play/Stop Buttons

I am new to Captivate 3.
I need to play an audio file with full control
    (play/stop/pause buttons) on the slide.
I know how to add an audio file to the slide or object. I
also know how to stop the audio from playing via the "Stop slide
audio when clicked" option for a button. But, I do not know how to
start or pause the audio from a button.
Basically, I needing the audio playback controls similar to
    those found in Flash.
I also need a button to disable audio altogether.
    Any help will be appreciated.

Rick, thanks for the suggestion but I'm afraid it didn't
work. If by 'output folder' you mean the folder that is generated
and contains the swf from Captivate then , yes I put the mp3player
swf in there as well but it still does not appear on the published
lesson. The weird thing is I inserted an image and put it 'behind'
the mp3player.swf. The image appears alright but no sign of the
    swf.
I had an alternative idea of putting the audio file in a flv
and inserting this into the lesson. The flv option in captivate
allows a 'player bar' to control the video embedded in the lesson
but it seems like a lot of work and extra kbs' just to play an
    audio file.

  • Adobe Captivate 5 published as pdf not displaying in certain versions of Adobe Acrobat and Reader

We have an issue where upon publishing files as a pdf in Adobe Captivate 5, they will not open in Adobe Acrobat Pro (9 or 10) or Adobe Reader (11).  However, they will open in Adobe Reader 10.1.4.  I have searched up and down these forums and google, without any solid resolution for this issue.  We are running Windows 7 64-bit machines.  It should be noted, that if we publish as a exe, it works without any issues.  See below for other threads with same issue (but no resolution), and a screenshot.  Thanks!

Try this. Though the solution is for CP6, it might still work for you.

I just published my captivate 6 presentation.  I am launching the .pdf file to view.  At the end, the quiz questions do not work.  I get a white screen and not my questions.  Any ideas?  Thanks

After I publish, I go to the zip file and run the pdf version.
