Captivate 4 - save for Captivate 3
I would like to buy Captivate 4 ... but will still need to
occassionally
collaborate with developers who are still using Captivate 3.
If I create
something in version 4, can I save it in a version 3 format?
I know, for
instance, that when I am working in Flash 8, I can save in a
Flash MX 2004
format ... I'm just limited in what I can do in Flash 8.
Does anyone know if Captivate 4 is backwards compatible?
Thanks.
Marge
So, will Captivate 4 install to a separate location on my
computer, so that
I can be running both 3 and 4 ... so I can still develop in 3
where needed?
Thanks again.
Marge

.gif preview slow in Save for Web
I am having an issue in Save for Web where the .gif animation preview works very slow and choppy. I am an advertising designer and many times I need to work on animated .gif banners. I am working with Photoshop CS6. When I play the animation in the frame timeline the animation speed works as intended, a little choppy but the timing isn't too bad. However when I go into the Save for Web screen and play the animation it always appears a lot slower and looks choppy. Anything se to 0.0 or No Delay runs as if its set to .1 seconds. Now if I export the file and open it in Chrome the animation speed seems to go back to normal. This wasn't always the case, I tested this 2 or 3 months ago and the animation speed in the export was also slow and choppy but it must have been fixed in one of the updates since then.
My issue is I don't want to have to preview everything in Chrome after I export it, and then possibly have to go back and tweak it then save again, preview again etc. I have never encountered this issue in previous versions on Photoshop or other machines. Ususally my experience has been the opposite, the frame timeline has always been slower, but previewing in Save fro Web has shown a pretty accurate preview.
I also have a HP laptop running Windows 7, photoshop CS6 and I don't encounter this issue at all. It seems that everyones default answer on all of the forums is "different browsers handle .gif animation speeds differently, etc.." but int he past I have saved a .gif on my mac and it was slow and choppy in the Chrome, then I saved the same file on my PC transfered it back to the mac and previewed in Chrome and the animation played quickly and smoothly.
I can't see it being a hardware issue because the machine I am using is farily new. iMac Late 2013/2013, 3.4 Ghz Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675MX 1024 MB, running OSX 10.8.4 Mountain Lion.
Could it possibly be a setting or preference that needs to be changed? As I stated above it seems that now when I export the animation works fine in the browser the preview is just slow, but I have read that many people are having this issue so hopedully someone will have a solution.I don't use a Mac but the first the first thing I do when I have performance problems with Photoshop on my PC is to do some house cleaning. I reset my Photoshop Preference to a saved copy I made when Photoshop was working well. I Also clean my disk up clearing caches and temp files so the plenty of scratch space. I close all applications and look at the machine CPU utilization. Then try Photoshop to see if it is back to its normal performance.

SAV for Mac 9.2.7 released!
Hey everyone,
We released SAV for Mac 9.2.7 to all home users late last week.
This release at a glance:
Compatible with OSX 10.6 - 10.10
Stability and performance improvements
Updated threat engine and threat data (release notes for threat detection engine)
Provides an updated version of OpenSSL
Fixed SophosUIServer.app crashes
Fixed streaming issues from francetv.fr website
How to get the update?
If you're already running SAV, you should have automatically recieved the update courtesy of Sophos AutoUpdate
You can also manually trigger an update by clicking the Sophos sheild tray icon and clicking Update Now
Download a copy from our website
What about OSX 10.11 "El Capitian"?
In the last few weeks I've seen some folks asking about 10.11, which is currently available as a pre-release. At the moment, SAV 9.2.7 *should* work if SAV is already installed before you upgrade, but the install will fail if you attempt to install a fresh copy post-upgrade. That said, we'll be releasing another update for SAV prior to the official release of 10.11 "El Capitain" which will ensure full compatibility, so at the moment we recommend upgrading with caution.
Questions? Feedback on SAV 9.2.7?
Post it here and we'll get back to you ASAP!
in case you didn't see it
https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/2252436?tstart=0
That should help you out. -

LIke I said, I sure hope somebody can help me out. Any suggestions would be appreciated. The only thing I could think that might be causing this is the fact that I upgraded to Maverick (Apple OSX) about 2.5 weeks ago. But this problem didn't start until about 3 days ago, so surely that's not the issue. Anyway, figured it was worth mentioning.
Please let me know.
Thank you,
Jamie Richards, a fellow Photoshop addictI found the solution (took forever to consolidate all the answers) for OS X 10.9 + Maverick. Finally!
1. Change permissions (as AOTPR says) to your User/Library/Preferences file so that your admin and user (the one you are using) has read + write permissions within the Get Info pane (command+I). You may have to add them with the sign.
2. Delete Adobe save for web 12.0 Prefs & Adobe save for web 13.0 Prefs files within the User/ Library/ Preferences folder. These may be hidden for some people, so when in a finder window, hold Option(alt) and click Go from the main top menu (keep holding Option/Alt) and click Library — the full Preferences folder should open for you.
3. Change the view when in Save for web pane in PS. If you have it in Cover Flow — it won't work. Change it to another view like List or Columns view.
Presto! Works for me on Maverick.
Thank god. It took forever to get this cleared up!!

How do I USE the slices I generate in Illustrator from "Save for Web"?
I am having trouble understanding slices. I want to save a raster graphic from Illustrator that takes advantage of "slices" to put hyperlinks to certain labels. I am working on a map with about 20 links to a website describing recreation sites shown on the map.
I am able to do this by bringing my map as a graphic into InDesign, and setting up links to text or picture boxes there. I can export an interactive PDF of the map, and the PDF has live links.
but the client's web host can't post the PDF with active links. (client would have to link from a static image to a copy of the PDF on a separate website). We may do this as an interim measure.
So I'd like to go back and figure out how to use slices in Illustrator to do the same thing. I've seen web pages that have a series of sliced-up graphics; I wouldn't wish that on anyone but it's the solution I want to get to.
Illustrator tutorials and help describe how to set up slices, how to type in links in the "slice options" dialogue box (in objects/slices... pulldown menu). And describe how to "save for web" to generate JPEGs or GIFs of the individual slices.
My available options in AI CC 2014 (I checked in CS6 too) are to save the slices as images. (Helpful articles which say to save as HTML and Images...aren't helpful if I don't have that option).
I get a folder called images, that contains about 74 sliced JPEGs of various sizes and shapes. I don't see, nor see an option where I can ask to make...a file that pulls all these together into a single image, with clickable links. There's no HTML file (or way to create one that I can see).
What am I missing? What application would I use to toss this folder's contents together. Or how would I create the HTML or envelope file within Illustrator?
I have entered URLs for links in three or four different places but haven't found a way to export them in such a way that they are actually useful.
Thanks for your help.
Ben PEaseThanks, I am a print guy, mostly. I've almost figured out CSS for my did-it-myself website, so buttons, actions, slices, etc. are new angles for me. I am hip to the general concept that Adobe likes certain applications to do certain things. It was certainly easier to set up links from InDesign.
In what application would you suggest I DO foolishly create my interactions (raster graphic with multiple links? Does it work any better in Photoshop? The client's web host does the web design (some sort of template thing) so I don't believe I have the option of drawing hot-spots like is (was?) possible in Dreamweaver.
(That may be a question for the web host).
One of the problems with "discontinuing this functionality" is there are about half a dozen how-to guides online that suggest it is still possible to kluge a solution in AI (sometimes in older versions) and it's hard to tell well-executed funtionality from abandoned functionality since Adobe hides instructions in multiple, random dialogue boxes, and left so many of the pieces strewn about the current versions of AI.... How would we really know? But I am not all that surprised they did. -
Preview options in the "save for web" dialog
According to the reference, the previews in the "save for web" dialog are there only for showing how the image can be seen on various platforms with different gamma values.
But, if we open a non-sRGB image (ProPhoto for example) by the "save for web" option, the preview options (other than the "use document profile) in the "save for web" dialog assign sRGB color space to the image even when the "convert to sRGB" option is unchecked ... this causes unrealistic, dull previews for the image.
What is the reason behind that PS assigns sRGB to the image previews if we uncheck "convert to sRGB" option?Basically, how animation works with GIF and Save for Web in PSE is that each layer in your document is a frame of animation. So you see one layer, then the next, and so on. You should not see the contents of the last frame/layer when looking at the current/next frame of the animation.
Could you post a screen shot of your layers panel and give us a link to the GIF that is coming out of Save for Web? -
Blurry smart objects in Photoshop Save for Web jpegs
I create graphs, etc in Illustrator, place them as Smart Objects in a master Photoshop file before outputing Save for Web jpegs to use as PowerPoint slide backgrounds. Everything created in Illustrator or Photoshop through that process (Quality 80 or 100 with any of the SfW options on or off) Save for Webs are blurry when imported (at 100%) into PowerPoint. The only way I have been able to get anything crisp in PowerPoint was saving a Photoshop pdf. However, that was only the text created in Photoshop. The Illustrator Smart Object part was still blurry. Anyone have any idea on the best process to combine Photoshop and Illustrator files into one file for import into PowerPoint as a clean, crisp background? At this point I am open to all suggestions.
There are parts that are being added in Photoshop, hence going from Illustrator through Photoshop as a Smart Object and then onto PowerPoint. If I wasn't 5 months down the line and just nearing deadline, I would recreate everything in Illustrator. Assuming that I have to continue at this point down the Illustrator through Photoshop line of working, how do you designate pngs or jpegs to be 220ppi. Jpegs have a 1-12 quality (and 12 is still blurry).
Note regarding PowerPoint, I embed the full-page image into the background so others that are using this can't move (by accident or on purpose) the background. -
Animated Gif - Save for web not showing full frame range
Hey,
I'm trying to export an animated gif with 52 frames - I'm using the timeline in CS6, it's exported correctly in the past but when I try and save for web only a seemingly arbitrary number of rames appear in the animation. With no clear route to rectify this, I've tried to affect the outcome by simply moving things around on the timeline.
I've had a variety of frame ranges (and frames) numbering between 2 and 6 frames, far off my 52 target. It's a simple image and equally simple transition to keep filesize down but I'm completely bamboozled by this. It looks like a bug but any advice I could get would be much appreciated. If it worked in the past with CS6 try resetting your CS6 Photoshop Preferences. If you still have the problem after that. Up load the PSD file to a server and post a link to it.

Copy & paste into save for web color palette doesn't function on macs
This didn't work in CS2 either on the mac side. Yet, you can copy a color hex code in the normal program, save for web and paste that color into the color picker for matte on a gif just fine on a PC. Get on a mac and you better get a pen out. Why?! Why can't I paste into the save for web/devices color picker?! Seriously? $600 and I can't copy and paste because I use a mac while at work on the PC I can do it without issue.
Is this something that will be given to mac users in a future update?

Save for web - animated gif problem PSE (Mac)
Trying to save an animated gif using Save for Web dialogue box...
works fine, except checkbox "Loop" and delay rate drop down box are highlighted (active) but can't be changed
anyone know reason / fix?No fix, alas. This has been a problem in the mac version since PSE 6. If your gif is small, you can duplicate layers so that they appear to stay onscreen longer, but the best advice is to not use PSE/mac for this, unfortunately.

GIF/Save for Web problem (PSE 7)
I've tried searching for an answer to this problem but nothing seems to address quite what's happening.
I recently had to replace my laptop, and switched from Windows XP to Windows 7. I transferred PSE 7 from the old system to the new system, and have had no trouble with it- until now. I have a 52-layer Photoshop-format image that I would like to save as an animated .gif, with each layer as a different frame. File >> Save As has the option to save Layers as Frames, but if I check it, then click "Save", nothing happens. Nothing at all. On my old system, I'd get a new dialogue with options like quality, duration per frame, loop, etc, but that's not happening anymore, and nothing saves (if I go to find the new .gif file, it's just not there). If I DON'T choose "Layers as Frames", the .gif dialogue comes up just fine, and it has no trouble saving as a static .gif. But it seems that it's just refusing to save it in animated format.
I'm having the same issue with "Save For Web". Neither the file menu option or the keystroke command will bring up the dialogue to let me save it that way. It thinks for maybe a second, but then doesn't do anything else, and doesn't save the image.
I've already tried resetting the layout, just in case the dialogue box was shifted somewhere I just wasn't seeing, and I tried resetting the Save For Web preferences, but neither of those things worked. Any explanation as to why an animated "Layers as Frames" .gif is the only format that isn't saving properly?
I've also tried opening old animated .gifs that I created with XP, and they will not re-save as animated .gifs either. I get the "Do you want to save the changes made" dialogue, but clicking "Yes" doesn't do anything and doesn't save the updates. I'm at a complete loss for why this function no longer works.Glad you got it working.
It takes some getting use to the differences between xp and windows 7
in regards to permissions and all that stuff. Even when you install
programs on an administrative account, problems still persist sometimes.
What i do is always install programs by right clicking on the installer and
choosing Run as Administrator even when installing on an account with administrative
permissions. I seem to have less problems doing it that way. Anyway, just something to
keep in mind for the future.

"Save for Web" dialog window not working properly
Hello,
I've been dealing with a bug since Illustrator CC that is very frustrating when I try to output my slices through Save For Web. When trying to click on the slices I've defined in order to name them—the click—does not happen where my mouse pointer is. The click registers somewhere else in the artboard.
Click screen shot for animated gif:As Zeno said, all down to the slice selection. Save for Web will recognize the last active slice for the main document and when that is the case, only that slice is active by default for saving. So either override in the dialog or un-select all slices before saving.

Save for Web filetype default in PSE 8 on Windows 7
I just installed PSE 8 on a new Windows 7 system. On my earlier Windows XP system running PSE 6, the Save for Web filetype defaulted to JPEG Medium, which is what I wanted. On this installation, it defaults every time to GIF; I change it and save the file as a JPEG, and the next one defaults again to GIF. Closing PSE, rebooting Windows, nothing changes that. I would like to make the default JPEG Medium; is there a way?
On a MAC it does seem to stick on the last option you saved e.g. Jpeg if it was a Jpeg image.
For windows, this seems to work:
Find the file PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe using explorer (in the C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 8.0 folder) right click on that file and choose Run As Administrator.
Go back to the editor, open an image, select Save for Web and choose jpeg; then save that file. The next time you run the editor and use the save for web command the jpeg type should hopefully stick as the default. -
Save for Web does not open dialog box in PS Elements 8 for Mac
After opening an image and selecting Save for Web, the Save for Web dialog box fails to appear. I've seen similar reports for PS Elements 6 for Mac, but did not find the same files in those directories. Running iMac with OS 10.6.
There are many things that only work in an admin account, but if you're willing to take the trouble, you can change the permissions to allow them to work in a standard account. See:
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/362899
Note that it's pretty important to run Save for Web one time in the admin account after changing the permissions or it still won't work in the standard account. -
CRASH when making a new folder in save for web
When going into Save For Web, and saving a picture, and clicking the little "new folder" button, Photoshop crashes and closes instantly. This is 100% reproducible.
Can we expect this to be fixed?
Details:
Windows 7 x64, fully updated
Photoshop CS5 x64, fully updated
Memory is plentiful
Disk space is plentifulAlways nice to get an upgrade, but it's a rather costly operation, one might say
I still think this is an issue Adobe should be fixing. This problem (for me at least) did only occur in the save dialog while in Save For Web, and not in any other save dialogs, such as the regular file->save as. This made it very hard for me to believe the problem is in my system. Although something might be triggering it, that something could hardly be the cause, since, like I said, the problem only occurs in SFW and only ever in Photoshop, and only in CS5. EVERY other program works fine in this regard.
So please, Adobe, fix this bug before forcing folks to initiate an expensive upgrade... -
Objects outside doc size not showing in Save for web
Hi there guys,
For no apparent reason Ai CS3 started to hide elements outside the document size when saving for web. It was working perfect this morning but then it stopped. I have tried may documents, checked for crop marks, trim marks, clipping masks but I can't figure out what's wrong. I know I can make the document size bigger but this will slow me down a bit. Does anyone know why this is happening? Why I can't see the elements outside the doc's boundaries when I save for web? Let me know if I wasn't clear enough.
Thanks a lot in advance,
DanYou, you are my savior, Jesse!!! You, you are! Man, I was going nuts with this. I guess I must've checked it accidently. Well, new trick learned here. Thanks a million.
Dan
