Captivate 4 won't launch anymore

While waiting for Adobe Support to get back to me (if ever...), I decided to try my luck and cast the question out here.
I'm on Windows XP SP3, with 1.5G of RAM and a 1.66GHz Intel T2300 processor.
Captivate 4 installed and ran perfectly previously till I decided to deactivate and uninstall it temporarily.
This is what I did:
1. Deactivate Captivate 4
2. Uninstall (to free up some disk space temporarily)
3. Reinstall Captivate 4; entered my Serial Number during the installation and it was accepted.
4. Tried to run Captivate 4 via all conceivable options (all attempts failed):
    (a) Start > Programs > Adobe Captivate 4
    (b) double-clicking an existing CP file
    (c) Double-click "AdobeCaptivate.exe" in "../Program Files/Adobe/Adobe Captivate 4" folder
[note: "AdobeCaptivate.exe" is seen briefly in the task manager, but soon disappears. It should also be noted that the Captivate 4 splash screen is not displayed at all during the loading process.]
5. Uninstalled, Rebooted, Reinstalled (multiple times)
6. Tried and failed all troubleshooting steps listed here (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/404/kb404171.html)
any suggestions is welcome!

Glad you got it sorted - because if you had to rely on Adobe "support" (joke)..not only would you have to wait forever and a day, but if/when they did contact you - you would be no better off than having someone reading from a script which ends in "uninstall / reinstall".
As you can gather I suffered at the hands of Adobe "support" not so long ago, and the only way I eventually go anyone from Adobe to help me, was to contact everyone and anyone within Adobe and threaten to go public about the appalling way Adobe treat their "customers".
From what you say, sounds like things have not improved.

  • IPhone 3rd party apps won't launch anymore!

After updating the iPhone software to 3.1, a host of 3rd-party apps won't launch anymore (appear for 1 second, then revert back to the apps icons page).
I've tried upgrading to iTunes 9, uninstalling then reinstalling ALL apps on the iPhone via iTunes, hard rebooting my iPhone, restarting my iMac, etc etc, but nothing works.
On a iPhone 3Gs page on the Forums, I saw many others having similar difficulties and blaming it on the XX upgrade. One solution proposed there was to download a free app from the App Store and install it. Tried that, and it didn't work for me.
I hope Apple will give this attention, because it's basically disabled my iPhone's business-sensitive functionalities (like 1Password) on the eve of a 2week business trip ... and on business trips, I don't have my iMac with me! >:-(
In case it helps the OS is showing as 3.1 (7C144) on my device.

    Hi!
I may have a solution to your problem. I updated to Firmware 3.1 today and couldn´t open any application i downloaded. I seems the updated version of iTunes handles apps a little different from before. When you connect your iPhone and it pops up in iTunes, right click on it to enter your configuration area (for the iPhone). At the top bar you have a row of options like music, pictures, podcast and somewhere in the middle you have the option "Programs". Click on that and you will see a list of all the programs you have downloaded in iTunes. Unfortunatly you have to recheck all the boxes at the left side of the program you want to be synched to your iPhone. Check these boxes and click "Apply" at the bottom right and iTunes will now transfer them to your iPhone. Easy breasy when you know how to do.
    Best of luck, Cheers!

  • Microsoft Office X- won't launch anymore

    Hi:
I have Microsoft Office X- All of a sudden my Microsoft Office Apps won't launch anymore. They report an error yet if I open a document it will launch Microsoft Word or PowerPoint just fine.
I have tried to replace the Microsoft Office X from a Super Duper back up but it also is still failing to launch.
I am guessing "launch services" is goofed up. Does anyone know how to fix this issue?
    Thank you,
    Reid

I don't think it is an Intel based problem. I have a G5 iMac and a legal old MS office v.X upgrade on top of office 2001 version. Worked fine until a few weeks ago except for a few years needing to keep current with the latest XML free MS converter. Repaired disk/permissions. Dug out all of the app/preferences from my user/library. Reinstalled and it checked with MS mothership. However, still crashes on launch. I think perhaps the most recent OSX security update?

  • Captivate 4 - Won't launch - Flash Player Issue

Wants Flash Player to install, tried several times and restarted, still won't launch Captivate.  Also renamed preferences file, no luck.

Perhaps the Flash player has been upgraded enough that Captivate no longer senses it?
I might suggest downgrading the flash player and see if that helps.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Itunes won't launch anymore: AVFoundationCF.dll problem

    Hi,
since my last itunes update, it won't launch because of a "AVFoundationCF.dll" problem. I'm on a Windows XP system. Can anyone help me please?

Taken at face value, you're having trouble with an Apple Application Support program file there. (Apple Application Support is where single copies of program files used by multiple different Apple programs are kept.)
Let's try something relatively simple first. Restart the PC. Now head into your Add or Remove programs control panel, select "Apple Application Support", click "Change" and then click Repair.
If no joy after that, try the more rigorous uninstall/reinstall procedure from the following post (although it's for Vista and 7, just read "Computer" as "My Computer", read "Uninstall a program control panel" as "Add or Remove programs control panel" and assume the system is 32-bit, and you'll be doing the right things):
Re: I recently updated to vista service pack 2 and I updated to itunes 10.2.1 and ever since I did that my itunes won't open any more.  Itunes starts but before anything loads a window pops up saying that the prograam has encountered a problem and sh...

  • Creative Suite programs won't launch anymore

I bought my Creative Suite Standard CS6 and it worked fine for three weeks. Suddenly it won't launch any of the programs. I've tried reinstalling the discs, but it still wont work. Additional information: I'm using Windows 7. I bought the Student/Teacher version and have registered it with Adobe.

  • Captivate 7 won't launch (Windows 7)

Having installed Captivate 7 (64-bit) on Windows 7, I've found the program won't actually open. Launching it asks for the Adobe ID, while the program flashes up for a second in the background. Having entered the ID, nothing happens. Trying to launch again just performs the same process, with the program itself never actually loading. Tried uninstalling and putting the 32-bit version on instead, but the same thing happens. This installation has been tried on three different computers (all Win 7), with the same result. Any thoughts as to what can be happening?

I have the 64 bit version and same problem.
It used to launch. Now my AVG anti-virus program says that at automatically-generated "CP" file in User > AppData > Local > Temp folder has "unknown" moderate risk and must be removed.
If I scan the folder with AVG, it doesn't find any threats. I have scanned it with a Microsoft tool too but it found no viruses. The file that seems to cause a problem is generated at the time of launch (must be the temporary Captivate file for the session about to begin).
I can only assume there is an incompatibility issue with a Windows 7 update. If everyone around the world suddenly has this problem, it's likely that, but I don't see many people on this thread.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Captivate (after asking Adobe if it would be ok, given that I can't open the program to deactivate the license first). Same problem after fresh installation from CD.
Adobe Captivate team - is anyone following this topic? Some input would be appreciated because the program was not cheap and I cannot find good support.

  • Captivate 4 won't launch while off my network (it was installed off network)!

    HELP! Captivate won't start
Captivate 4 is installed onto my C: drive.  All Captivate files are on this drive.  As long as I am connected to my network, Captivate will open.  However, if I am not connected to my network, Captivate will not open.
I sometimes, not always, get a message stating   Runtime error 217 at 004D5C7B
Other times a window opens stating:
Adobe Captivate has stopped working.  Windows can check online for a solution to the problem the next time you go online.
Windows never seems to do that, though.  In the same window, under Problem Details, it says:
    Problem Signature:
      Problem Event Name:               APPCRASH
      Application Name:                    AdobeCaptivate.exe
      Application Version:                  4.0.1.1658
After spending over an hour with Adobe Tech Support, we found a folder in the Registry, that, when deleted, solved the problem.  I was told that the file in the folder (there was only one) was a Captivate preferences file.  I wasn’t completely sold on that, though, and I don’t, unfortunately, have the name of the file.  The folder was labeled “Adobe”.
Still off the network, I tried to launch Captivate and it worked!  Later, I connected to the network.  I, then, disconnected from the network and tried to launch Captivate.  Once again, it failed to launch (just like before).  Believing that the offending file was rewritten, I opened the Registry and navigated to where the Adobe folder was with the file in it.  However, no such folder was recreated.  So, the fix that I used successfully the first time, no longer applies.  I’m back to square one where I can’t launch Captivate unless I’m connected to the company network.   This is the only program that does this and I have a host of other Adobe products on the same computer.
Does anyone have any ideas as to why this happens?  Any ideas on how to fix my problem so that I can launch Captivate without being connected to the company network?
Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hi
I have pretty much the same problem. iphone 4, just over a year old ( so no longer under my service providers guarantee apparently !) Was using facebook with full battery and it just went black. I've tried hard-reseting holding the buttons for a full two minutes: nothing. Tried to connect to itunes: not recognised. It has crashed several times recently using facebook but always gone to homepages.
Can anyone out there help us ?

  • Appleworks won't launch anymore

I click on the icon and it just bounces and then stops.
    1) I emptied my recent items folder
    2) dragged the applworks icon from the dock to the desktop and then reinstalled it from the finder/applications section onto the dock
To no avail and I can't figure out why it won't work now. My eMac is pretty full- is there a minimum amount of memory needed to run it? (663.5 MB available)

Try a couple of maintenance tasks, one for the system (Repair Permissions) and one for AppleWorks (delete preferences). (Thanks to Barry for this way to format this very common answer.)
To Repair permissions, launch Disk Utility, found in the Utilities folder in your Applications folder, click on First Aid, then on Repair Permissions.
To delete AppleWorks’ preference files, go to HD > Users > (your account) > Library > Preferences. Find and delete the file com.apple.appleworks.plist. Find and open the folder AppleWorks in this Preferences folder, then delete all of the enclosed files (with the exception of the Button Bar Preferences if you have customized the Button Bars). AppleWorks will recreate the preference files as it needs them.
AppleWorks cannot handle Unicode, so you must not have an "extended" keyboard layout selected in System Preferences > International > Input Menu.

  • Captivate 5 won't launch after install

I've just installed captivate 5  on a Windows XP sp3 (fully patched) (previously the
computer had adobe elearning suite installed) but I can't launch captivate 5.  each time I launch I get he captivate splash screen,  and I can see that it's load ing components,  then the splash screen goes away,  a rectangular grey (blank) window appears and then it closes. Captivate does not load,  no erorr messages display on screen,  and I don't see anything in the event logs.   How do I get this resolved?  at the moment it's just a waste of disk space.  I've checked and I have 112gb of free space on the drive so it's not the 5gb issue I've seen elsewhere.  Any help would be appreaciated!

I am having similar issues with iTunes 10.5 crashing as soon as I open it.  I have tried reinstalling but has not helped yet.

  • Captivate 6 won't load anymore?

    Hello,
I have been using Captivate 6 for many months now, but all of the sudden today CP won't load at all—whether attempting to open a file or CP in general.
My immediate reaction was to just reboot, but that did nothing; I also tried this workaround, again to no avail.
I can confirm that a CP process starts, as seen in the Task Manager, but it closes after 1-3 seconds. Otherwise, no visible signs of anything happening take place (e.g. don't even see the initial green loading screen).
I'm using Windows 7 Professional, 32-bit version with Service Pack 1. Processor is an Intel i5 @ 2.5Ghz, and I have 4 gigs of RAM.
    Please advise.
    Thanks,
    - Kevin

  • Safari won't launch anymore

Tonight, after having used Safari as my primary browser since its introduction, it suddenly quit on me. Not a major disaster - software does it all the time. But this time, I can't get it to start back up. Whenever I click the Dock icon, it will take several minutes for the app to even begin loading the home page (Yahoo) - but then it will quit before the page is even loaded. I've tossed out the preferences file, even upgraded to 3.1.1 - nothing is working. I'm using Firefox right now, so I'm not totally out of luck - but I prefer Safari if I have any druthers. Does anybody have any ideas - please?
Oh - at the time Safari quit for the first time, I was running Data Rescue II to restore files from a damaged external hard drive, a project that has taken all day. But I was running it for several hours (including a restart) before the trouble with Safari started.

Not only did the procedure involving emptying the cache not seem to work (Safari starts to open up, the spinning wheel shows up for a few minutes and then the application quits), now Firefox won't even open up at all. Upon trying to launch it following a restart, the Dock icon bounces several times but then nothing - not even a notice that Firefox has crashed. Further clicking of the Dock icon only results in the icon bouncing just twice and then nothing.
I'm at a loss. I'm in no immediate position to reinstall either financially or technologically at this moment. (I plan to purchase Leopard at some point, but only after I procure additional RAM.) Everything else on the MacBook seems to be working OK, though I have been getting periodic minifreezes for the past couple of months that I thought was the need for more RAM. (Everything stops except for the cursor, but the freezes are temporary, lasting from a few seconds to, a couple of times, a few minutes, and usually only when several tasks are taking place at the same time.) On a hunch, I'm going to install Opera on the MacBook and see how that takes. Still looking for help, though.

  • Captivate 8 won't launch

I just purchased the Educational license for Captivate 8 and after installing on my Mac with OS 10.9 and adding the license key when I go to launch the program the splash screen appears and says "Loading" forever.  It never actually loads the program.  I have to Force Quit as the "Application is not responding".  What could possibly be wrong?  I need this program to work and I am on a time crunch.  Please help.

I called tech support yesterday and we figured out that I must have a corrupted font that was preventing the load.  I had to empty my fonts folder in order to get Captivate to load.  Once it loaded, I added the fonts back to the Fonts folder and it was fine.  But when I restarted my computer and tried to open Captivate it was again frozen in the loading phase.  It seems each time I load Captivate I will need to move my fonts then move them back after it loads.  Could there be a work around for this?  I have thousands of fonts so going through each of them to find a corrupted one would take forever.
    Thanks.

  • SQL developer x64 won't launch anymore

Hi. I've installed sql developer 3.2.1 x64 + jdk 1.7 x64 three weeks ago and it worked like a charm and helped me finish my first university project. Last week I tried to launch it to train again, but the only thing I get is the oracle sql developer splash screen for 3 seconds then it disappears with no message or error. Very weird 'cause I haven't made any change to windows or programs. I've reinstalled it 3 times java reinstalled also, tried the 32 bit version with the included jdk with no result. Here is a print screen with the app run from the bin directory. Hope somebody can help me. Thanks.

  • Photoshop Elements 10 Organizer Won't Launch Anymore

What is happening here?  I tried to work wround the launch program by creating a shortcut directly to the Organizer, but that didn't help.  I have no issues getting to the Editor... It's only the organizer that's an issue.
I tried uninstalling and re-installing the software, but that did no good, either.
Can someone direct me to more suggestions?  I've seen this issue pop up, but I don't see that anyone has resolved it.

The following blog refers to various articles for problems in launching application:-
