Captivate 5.5 mp4 publishing crash

Captivate 5.5 - Windows 7:  I am attempting to publish a 38 second video to mp4 and no matter what I try Captivate crashes.  It begins processing the slides, it says 'saving swf file' - then crashes stating that 'a problem caused the program to stop working correctly. windows will close the program....'.   Is this  a known issue?  Is there some simple setting I can adjust to avoid this?

HI
I have installed Captivate 5.5 on Win 7 64 bit and even on my laptop which is Win 7 32 bit. On both machines I have installed it as an Administrator. I open Captivate and publish Mp4 --> works fine.
1> So you can try to run Captivate 5.5 as an admin. Also if it is a standalone machine, enable the built in user and then run captivate to publish mp4.
2> You can close/end other processes and then run Captivate to publish mp4
3> Try to re-install Captivate 5.5 in a new admin account and observe that are you facing the same issue or not.
Hope it helps
Thanks

Video files in Captivate 6 externalize when publishing the project. Is there any way to publish an SWF project with the video files all in one single file?

Rhonda, I used Captivate 6. Create a New Project. Set the project size to the size of  your MP4. In my experience, this was 640 v 480 which also happened to fit nicely within my final project.
From the menu, select Video > Insert Video. Choose "Multi-slide Synchronized" and point to the MP4 on your local drive. Select a skin and playbar that you like from Project > Skin Editor. Then publish. In the Publish dialog, choose SWF as your output format option (not HTML5).
This is the SWF that I added to my master project through Insert > Animation.
    Hope this helps!

  • Adobe Captivate 6 Error when publishing

Help!  I having trouble publishing a training that my employees can view.  When they open the project they are getting the first image here that is essentially blank.  I have attempted to reduce the size and save to different folders etc. but nothing seems to work.

    Hi there,
Could you tell me the complete version of Captivate (Help > About Adobe Captivate).  6.0.1.240
Which version of Adobe Reader or Acrobat are they using?  Adobe Reader XI
Can you publish this locally on your system (not to network drive directly), check force republish option also, and are you able to view it on your end?  I can pull up the file from my computer that is saved in the same drive that the agents are attempting to pull up.  But, I am not sure if it is viewing for me because I have it on my system.

  • Captivate 7.0.1 Publishing Templates

    Hello!
Prior to version 7.0.1, I've relied on the following scheme of templates locations:
    Basic HTML5 output and preview: \Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate 7 x64\HTML\index.html
Basic Flash output and preview: \Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate 7 x64\Templates\Publish\standard.htm
    Scorm 1.2 HTML5 output: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate 7 x64\Templates\Publish\LMS\Standard\SCORM\Default\1_2\Default_HTML5.html
    Scorm 1.2 Flash output: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate 7 x64\Templates\Publish\LMS\Standard\SCORM\Default\1_2" Default.htm
In 7.0.1, however, it seems that both Scorm 1.2 HTML5 and Basic HTML5 are now using the same source index.html template from \Adobe Captivate 7 x64\HTML\ - I've compared them line-by-line.
Why is the logic changed and how could I revert it? The Default_HTML5.html file seems now to be not used anywhere at all.

For drop down lists, menu items, etc, this is the only way out.
I never had issues with capturing icon clicks. Keyboard actions are not visible. For this, you have to use the callout/ captions. Not sure what you mean by blue dot. Can you share a screenshot?

  • Captivate 4 can't publish or preview files/sound layers appear black

After re-installing Captivate 4, I was unable to preview or publish files.  Additionally, my sound layers appeared as black, empty layers.
I had a difficult time finding a solution, so I wanted to post it here in case somebody else has the same problem.
I was indicating in my searches that I was unable to publish or preview files in C4 and could not find a solution, then I switched the focus of my searches to the audio layers and that's when I found a solution at: http://blogs.adobe.com/captivate/2009/03/adobe_captivate_4_installation.html
Now, I have to say this for anyone who may not be aware.  You should always back up your registry anytime you make changes to it and that changes to the registry can cause problems.  Having said that, here is the fix I used:.
Adobe Captivate 4 Installation Issues on Microsoft Windows XP
You can use SubInAcl tool from Microsoft to try fixing the permission issues in the Windows Registry.
Close all instances of Adobe Captivate and do the following steps -
    1) Download the SubInAcl tool from Microsoft Download Center and install it.
    2) Download this zip file
    3) Extract the zip file in a temporary folder. You will get two files - restoreRegPermCP4.bat, restoreCP4regentries.bat
    4) Copy the restoreRegPermCP4.bat to the folder which has SubInAcl.exe installed. Typically this would be at C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools\.
    5) Double click to run the restoreRegPermCP4.bat file.
    6) Copy the restoreCP4regentries.bat to the folder in which Captivate 4 is installed. Typically it is at C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate 4
    7) Open command prompt and navigate to that folder.
    8) Type restoreCP4regentries.bat and press enter.
    9) Make sure that all the messages that popup say "DllRegisterServer in 'some dll name' Succeeded"
This should have fixed the registry issues and things should work fine.
I hope this saves someone hours of searching for a solution.

So glad it helped you!  I know what you mean about Adobe.

  • Captivate shuts down after publishing

Has anyone experienced Captivate shutting down after
publishing? This keeps happening to an instructor, and I'm not sure
of the solution. Is there a preference that I'm not aware of?
    Christine

    Hi Christine
If mattturley's advice fails to help, you may also want to
examine the path you are publishing to. I seem to recall that this
issue can also appear if your output path is too long.
For example, if your current path is:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Rick Stone\My Documents\My Adobe
    Captivate
    Projects\Cap2InstructorRollovers\Captions\Assets\WonderfulProjects\ThisWonderfulProject
Try moving it closer to the root, as in:
    C:\CaptivateProjects\MyProject

  • Captivate 6: Can't publish to MP4

    Hi everybody,
I need some help with publishing to MP4. Some information in advance: Captivate 6.0.0.199 (x64), Windows 7
I have added several video clips to a captivate project. When I publish to MP4, it seems to work: the Video Publisher pops up and does finish without an error message. But the resulting MP4 video has only about 40 kilobytes. The video itself seems to be valid, at least it can be opened with VLCplayer.  But the video only contains the rotating preload image and an error message in the middle of the screen saying "Conntection error" (or similar, since I translated it from the German version).
    I tried many things:
    - video resolution 1920x1080, 1280x720 and less, framerate 23,98
    - input video FLV or MP4 (transcoded from MOV files with Adobe Media Encoder)
    - started Captivate as Administrator
    - manipulated the FLVs with the "FLV MetaData Injector"
    - renamed the folder "Captivate 6" in "C:\Users\Name\AppData\Local" + restart
    - put the video files into the same folder as the Captivate project file
    - used different publishing templates (YouTube, Apple and so on)
    - deactivated/activated the option "scalable HTML content"
    - tested with only one video
... but always the same result: An MP4 file, just a few KB small, containing the error message "Connection error".
Thank you very much for any help
    Marcel

We are having the same issue with version 6.1.0.319
.flv files play in captivate, but after publishing and running the .swf file, we get the connection error.
Have tried all of the fixes in these discussions, but still get the connection error.
renamed the folder "Captivate 6" in "C:\Users\Name\AppData\Local" + restart
    disabled advanced project compression
    disabled compress SWF file
Published to a local drive instead of a network drive
deleted and reloaded the video files
Everything worked just fine when we were running version 5.5, but now since upgrading to 6 (which we paid good money for) we are at a stall, and our e-learning projects have come to a complete halt.
For a very expensive piece of software, it sure seems to be buggy!
    Any new ideas?

  • Captivate 6.0.1 published MP4 play with windows media player

    Hi
    Pls help.
I publish my Software Simulation to MP4 without any error.  Then I play this MP4 with Windows Media Player. I could only hear the audio but the video is all black.  The review works well.  Does anyone have any idea?
    Thank you!
    Rgds, YYY

Try viewing your MP4 in a different player to see if it works there.  For example, the Adobe Media Player is a free application that you can insatll and use.  It's more likely to be compatible with Adobe-created video than Windows Media Player.
Your Windows Media Player may need updated codecs to decode and display the Captivate MP4 video.

  • Embed slide video in mp4 publish

    Hello,
Is it possible to publish a Captivate 6 project with slide video as one main mp4 file?! I need to have the slide video (flv) be incorporated in the main video file rather than an external files. In my published mp4 video the slide videos don't show. Instead, there is an indicator "connection error" where the video ist supposed to be.
    Best regards
    Jan

    Hi Jan,

  • Why captivate freezes during the publishing phase to pdf and html?

I have more than 10 hours trying to figure out what is the problem. It is a shame that instead of focussing my self in making the job done, I have to focus my self in figure out why it get frozen and crashes.

Well, I dunno if Ccgbkjgk will answer you, but for me, it's every video I publish to video (to a file) and it won't even connect to YouTube because it says I have the wrong username/password combo, but I've typed the in several times, successfully logged into the website typing them in over and over, and it's happened on everything I've tried to upload directly to YouTube (4 projects).
So, as of now, I've given up on video Demos and gone back to FCPX, which WILL upload to YouTube, gives me more options in editing and is significantly cheaper.
Unfortunately, I still have to use Captivate with it's backwards Mac keyboard shortcuts, and inability to option click and drag (seriously?!?!?). </rant> Sorry for that. I'm up against deadlines and am extremely frustrated.

  • Captivate 7 - How to publish into a single swf file?

Our Authoring tool has been designed to cater for Captivat swf files for video uploads. Now that we have upgraded to Captivate 7 the swf - is merely a 'holden cache file' the video content is saved in the .mp4 file. Our programmer tells us that it will take some time to reprogramme this. Is there a way within the Captivate 7 publishing settings to still create a .swf file which will be able to stream the entire video content when uploaded or to generate a single swf file with all content?
Thank you so much! We are trying superfast to adapt to all the different changes and really appreciate you input.
    Peter

OK, only solution I've found is to use a 3rd party program - try cutePDF.

  • Why does Captivate 6 create mp4 files that the swf does not playback clearly?

Captivate 5 created a .swf which suited my training purposes very nicely.  There were swf files in the library, embedded in the (rather large) .swf that I asked the students to run.  Now it seems that Captivate 6.0.1.240 won't do that.  Captivate 6 creates external mp4 files for the video portion (audio is separately recorded mp3 that is imported to the finished demo video slide) and they look terrible when the .swf runs them.  Those mp4 look fine on their own but the .swf must resize them to properly fit with the TOC on the screen.
The HTML created when I make the .swf looks fine but it does not all fit on the screen as does the .swf so I don't like it and don't want to use it.  Thanks, in advance, for any replies and suggestions.

    Hi llstewart,
I assume you are launching your program from C drive. Are any
components of Captivate stored on the remote drive? (I am thing
your user profile, are you the only person who accesses Captivate
    from that machine?)
Does this happen all the time?
What I have noticed in my own network is that there are
periodic "dropped" connections on the network. I have never figured
out what it causing this, but Captivate does not like it. (Every
once in awhile if Word or Excel are writing to a file on a share,
they will become thoroughly corrupted too.)
The problem with Captivate is that it needs a lot of a
computer's resources and takes what it can get. It also seems to
write to a temp file a lot (while a capture is taking place) an
only "binds" it up when the user stops and ends the session. The
only thing I can think of is that during this process there is a
    inturruption in your network.
Sorry I couldn't fully answer your question.
I would try (if you can) loading the software on a machine
that is not on the network and try to do a series of long captures
and see if the problem persists.
I work in a large network and I do not have the problem, but
I have also installed the software myself and made sure of the
installation. I also make sure the program I am recording is local
(whenever possible). Additionally, do you have problems with any
    other programs and corrupted files?
Again, sorry I don't have a quick answer.

  • Adobe Captivate 5.5 "Fatal Error" Crash Caused by "CS Live" in CS 5.5 Programs

This should be an official bug report. Forgive me if there is a more effective way to submit a bug.
Adobe Captivate 5.5 crashes with a "Fatal Error" when the user launches a CS 5.5 program while Captivate is running in the background. This only occurs when the user is signed into Creative Suite's "CS Live" in the Creative Suite programs.
This problem can be reproduced easily by launching Captivate and Illustrator side by side. Then the user must sign into CS Live through Illustrator. Captivate will crash with a fatal error every time. I have confirmed with Captivate running while launching Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, etc.
You can see a quick video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ayDDSN7rSY0
There is no solution to this bug. I have tried nearly everything, following the framework at Troubleshoot launch issues, problems | CS6, CS5.5, CS5
    • Clearing the cache / rebuilding the profile directory in User/AppData/Local/Adobe/Captivate 5.5.
    • Reset Windows fonts and deleted all Adobefnt*.lst files / rebuilds on program launch.
    • UAC is disabled, I have administrator rights, and the application is set to start in "Run this program as an administrator" for all users.
    • Switching graphics from Intel to Nvidia and back for all Adobe applications.
    • Disable activation on both Captivate and the Master Collection, then reregistering .
    • Deactivating/Uninstalling/Reinstalling the program entirely.
For now I will stay logged out of CS Live in my Master Collection programs.

  • Captivate 6.01 32 bit crashes when adding an interaction on secured DoD/AF network

    Hello,
I have been trying to work with the Adobe engineers to troubleshoot what could possibly be causing the problem, without much luck. I'm wondering if any other DoD developers who are working behind a firewalled .mil domain are having similar issues. Whether using left menu icon or top menu dropdown, when I choose to add an interaction, The proper dialog pops up allowing me to choose which interaction I want, but when I click "insert" the system immediately crashes instead of giving me the pop up dialog to customize the look of the interaction. The 64 bit version of Captivate 6 works fine on our network, it is only the 32 bit version that's effected. I does this every time without exception. However, when we attempted to run Captivate 6 through windbg (Windows Debug) and the application was started through the windbg application, THEN Captivate 6 32 bit, WOULD add an interaction just fine, I could not duplicate the malfunction when running within windbg, so it's getting very frustrating.  Was just wondering if ANY other DoD Cap6 users are having similar problems, regardless of which branch of service, as long as they're working on-base from behind a .mil domain network.

    Hi there,
Is this issue happens only with 32- bit Captivate? Can you please try installing 64- bit Captivate and verify its working fine on your environment or not?.

  • Captivate 4 - after patch, published projects won't pause but skip ahead

Last week, I installed the patch to bring my version up to Version 4.0.1 Build 1658.
After the patch was installed, if I publish a file with a Table of Contents, it runs fine the first time.  However, the second time I launch the published file, the first slide will display for a split second, and then it jumps to the first quiz question (if I have quiz questions in the project), or to the last slide I visited prior to closing the project.
If I then turn off the TOC and republish, I can navigate around the course, close it and re-launch, and it behaves perfectly.
I would rather use the TOC than have to manually build out the buttons.
I did a search, but I didn't find this problem elsewhere (doesn't mean it's not there, just that I couldn't find it ).
Any ideas about this, or should I submit a bug report?
This is a problem for my company - we've got a lot of folks working on a major Oracle roll-out, and the TOC definitely saves on development time if we could use it.
BTW, we tested the issue with projects that were published the week before the patch was installed.  Projects with the TOC worked properly, and projects without the TOC worked properly.  So it does NOT appear to be an issue with our environment.  This is only happening with files published after the patch was installed that use the TOC.  Yes, I've checked settings on the click boxes and buttons to make sure the pause was still configured correctly.
    Thanks,
    Tichelle
