Captivate 5.5 Not Capturing All Screens

I'm making a demo for an online registration application that features several screens, each with many data input fields.  We put Captivate in record, run through the application, and close out only to find that Captivate has zoned out somewhere in the middle and most of the screens are missing.  We'll get the first couple of screens, one or two in the middle, and the end screen, but that's all.  I experienced this problem a few times in the past but it seemed to correct itself without explanation and I've created several demos since with no problem.  However, today it happened again - twice in a row  with two different apps before we gave up.
I have no idea what could be causing this erratic behavior as this demo and the previous successful ones are very similar.  A successful capture usually produces about 100-150 slides, but we're only getting about ten seemingly random ones.  Same client, same server, same computer, same software.  Almost nothing is different except for the app itself, which runs just fine all through the capture process.  In fact, the app itself is only slightly different from the others.  What could be the problem?  Any insight would be appreciated.

Yes, I am using Captivate to capture the SAP (BW in this case) steps to be followed by a user.  I wish your recommendation was all it would take.  Unfortunately, it does NOT resolve the issue.  The process of navigating the tool (SAP) includes steps that will execute the selection screen and Captivate seems to do one of the following:
1. Ignore all steps while the selection screen is processing
2. Potentially Freeze Captivate altogether - occasionally resulting in loss of work for the project being captured
3. Refuses to launch the Record option until I close the selection screen
I appreciate your willingness to offer a solution, unfortunately, a "work-around" is probably not a solution to this issue for us.  I am leading a global course design team producing multiple courses and was hoping to utlize this software.  This will not be possible if the tool can not operate effectively for these screens.  I know that it can because Captivate 4.0 worked fine and developers were able to provide a temp solution in the past.
Adobe Developers:
You may recall our work together in the past for this issue.  Please contact me and advise on what solutions you can put in place that will be a patch to the existing versions of the software.  It is not an option for us to wait and upgrade for the multiple users we will need to use both Captivate 5.5 & 6.0.  Thank you!

  • Captivate 7 is not capturing system audio, and the software has a broken link

    The Problem:
Captivate 7 is not capturing system audio. When I start a screen recording, the line with "System Audio" and its checkbox are eternally grayed out. Next to the grayed out words is a link that says, "Why is this disabled?"
    The lnik goes to:  http://www.adobe.com/go/cpaudio
Which is not a valid link, so Adobe's site redirects me to blogs.adoble.com/captivate which is ZERO help. Both browsing and the search bar bring no answers.
    The Device:
Apple Macbook Air, Mid 2013, running OSX 10.9.2.
    What I've done already:
Obvsiously I have set Captivate 7's preferences to capture system audio, and have set System Settings -> Security and Privacy -> Privacy -> Accessibility to allow Captivate to control my computer.
I have also tried clicking the Mic icon, Selecting Source with the System Audio icon and that doesn't record system audio either. It acts like it is recording system audio, but when I stop recording I get a popup that says, "Cannot record system audio. Ensure that you are playing audio on your computer [Okay]"

    It's a wierd one.
One thing to try, and this fixes a lot of things, trash your preferences.

  • Captivate will not record ALL screen movements

I have been using Camtashia and recently move to another
company where they want to start using Captivate. I just bought
Captiveate and I am getting very aggrevated! Captivate will not
record all my movements with the mouse or when a screen changes. It
appears that everything is driven by an actual mouse click. Only
when I move my mouse around and then click will it actuall record
    the "action".
Please tell me there is a way for Captivate to record all
mouse movements, keystrokes, changes in applications just as I see
it when I am actually doing the recording.
I dont need all this fancy highlighting and project wizards,
I just simply want Captivate to record EXACTLY what I do and see
    while I am recording.
    PLEASE HELP!

Hi Tmy8ster and welcome to our community
No doubt you are frustrated if you are expecting Captivate to
behave like Camtasia. Yes, both create similar output, but both
accomplish it in entirely different ways.
Perhaps the following link to a thread where I attempted to
    explain it will help:

  • Not Capturing All Open Windows

When recording and a new window is open (within the same app
or screen capture), Captivate doesn't always capture the newly open
    window. Any suggestions.

    Hi N2TheFire,
Hit "Prt Scr" (or whatever key you re-mapped it to) while
recording to manually capture the extra snapshots. That's the only
way to capture things like mouser-over text and other
    non-event-driven changes.
The alternative is to use F9/F10 to start and stop full
motion recording when you know there's going to be a whole sequence
of automatic changes and screen updates happening between mouse
    and/or key presses.

  • DiskSpace Script not capturing all local disks - Help Please

    Hello,
I am using a script to capture disk size for all local disks, however it is reporting incorrect disk sizes (example C drive reported as 30GB however it is actually50GB). It is also not reporting all local disks. Any help with below?
    $erroractionpreference = “SilentlyContinue”
    $a = New-Object -comobject Excel.Application
    $a.visible = $True
    $b = $a.Workbooks.Add()
    $c = $b.Worksheets.Item(1)
    $c.Cells.Item(1,1) = “Machine Name”
    $c.Cells.Item(1,2) = “Drive”
    $c.Cells.Item(1,3) = “Total size (GB)”
    $c.Cells.Item(1,4) = “Free Space (GB)”
    $c.Cells.Item(1,5) = “Free Space (%)”
    $c.cells.item(1,6) = "Name "
    $d = $c.UsedRange
    $d.Interior.ColorIndex = 19
    $d.Font.ColorIndex = 11
    $d.Font.Bold = $True
    $d.EntireColumn.AutoFit()
    $intRow = 2
    $colComputers = get-content "C:\Servers.txt"
    foreach ($strComputer in $colComputers)
    $colDisks = get-wmiobject Win32_LogicalDisk -computername $strComputer -Filter “DriveType = 3"
    foreach ($objdisk in $colDisks)
    $c.Cells.Item($intRow, 1) = $strComputer.ToUpper()
    $c.Cells.Item($intRow, 2) = $objDisk.DeviceID
    $c.Cells.Item($intRow, 3) = “{0:N0}” -f ($objDisk.Size/1GB)
    $c.Cells.Item($intRow, 4) = “{0:N0}” -f ($objDisk.FreeSpace/1GB)
    $c.Cells.Item($intRow, 5) = “{0:P0}” -f ([double]$objDisk.FreeSpace/[double]$objDisk.Size)
    $c.cells.item($introw, 6) = $objdisk.volumename
    $intRow = $intRow + 1
    $d.EntireColumn.AutoFit()
    cls

I've just tested your script as is, and it worked perfectly.
Are you sure those drives are regular?
Have you tried just printing the results in the console instead of Excel? there might be some setting there that changes what you see.
Also, have you considered the conversion between bytes and GB are misleading?

  • Captivate 8 content not working with screen readers

My Adobe Captivate 8 published content is not working with any of the screen readers I have tested:  JAWS, Mac Voice Over, and Windows Narrator. It is a simple launch page with 6 buttons used to launch additional CBTs.
I have been over and over the content in the help topic for this and cannot find any reason to think I am not doing this right:
    [ ] https://helpx.adobe.com/captivate/using/creating-accessible-projects.html
I have added accessibility text for the slide, I have tried adding the accessibility text for the buttons,  have turned on accessibility in my publish settings, I have even tried just adding a text caption sitting on the slide with the text I want read by the screenreader - none of it works.
I have searched the forums and it appears others have this issue as well.  The latest forum post was having to do with Captivate 7 - where the poster followed up stating Adobe Support recognized this as a "bug".  Does screen reader accessibility work in Captivate 8 or not?
Is there anyone out there who has produced content that works with a screen reader?! If so, please tell me what the secret is!!

I've been able to get a screen reader to read parts of a Captivate 8 presentation using the HTML5 output (but NOT the .swf output). I tested using NVDA.
However - they keyboard accessibility does not seem to be functioning correctly. I can tab through buttons and such - but hitting enter on any of the buttons (play, forward, backward, closed captions, audio) does not work.
Overall - doesn't seem that Captivate 8 is as "accessible" as Adobe is claiming. Much of what they claim should work - does not.
CP8 is certainly no where near WCAG 2.0 "AA" standards (which unfortunately is where i need things to be).

  • Captivate 7 preloader not working - with screen captures for clarity

    Hi Community,
so I'm working in the Captivate 7 trial version, because the preloader for Captivate 6 isn't working for me. We have a ~48MB project with mp3's on almost every slide, flash videos, flash animations, quizzes and plenty of jpegs.
Before we publish the project we make sure we click everything that's needed, but because it's still not working I took screen shots of all the settings. Maybe I'm missing something, I would appreciate your help.
    Thank you guys so much!!
    Nat

I'm assuming here that your preloader animation is at least appearing when you are loading the file so that you KNOW it IS working.
Try setting your preloader progressively higher until you find the percentage at which the load times start INCREASING again.  If you have a lot of videos in your project, setting the preloader at a very low value like 10% doesn't necessarily affect the load times that much because Captivate still has to load a certain amount of the total number of assets before it can start to play anyway.  It could be that you have a whopping great event video right near the start of the project and that's what is causing the lengthy delay.
If your issue is still with the preloaders NOT appearing at all, then the only settings that would affect this are the ones on the Preferences > Project  > Start and End > Preloader path and percentage.  The path looks to be fine, but if preloader animations are not visible at all, try changing to a different preloader.  Maybe only SOME of them work.  The Default.swf preloader is usually reliable.

  • Captivate 7 Trial version not capturing all movements

This is a new trial install and record settings are for Training, tried Auto/Manual Panning, etc. and only the last slide appears. I cannot get the software to record anything else. Is there something I am not doing?

    Hi there,
May I know the application you are trying to capture? Can you please try recording a 'Word document' in Training mode with automatic /manual panning and see its working or not?
    Thanks,

  • Not Capturing All windows

This is my first exposure to Captivate, so there's a good
    chance I'm missing something basic.
But I am trying to capture a series of actions that involve
windows opening and mouse actions in demo mode, but it continually
drops key parts of the process, misses content filling the windows,
    and skips many mouse actions.
I've tried on both a PC and a Mac running on Parallels and
have gotten the same results. In full motion record we do get the
action we want, but we're hoping to use the demo mode for importing
into flash and editing capability there.
Can anyone help? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Hi Doug
Is what you are recording by chance web based? If so, here is
likely what is happening. In a web based situation, it is often the
case where you click a link and a command is issued to a server.
The server then has to process the command and feed a screen or
data back to the originating PC. This may happen fast enough that
you don't really notice it much. But in the world of Captivate,
Captivate is running very quickly on your PC. It sensed the click
and snapped the picture. The problem is, the screen often hasn't
had time to populate fully or at all. This provides the illusion
that Captivate is missing things, when in reality, it's simply
    being very quick and efficient.
The trick is to supplement the automatic capture process with
manual captures. You may force a manual capture at any time by
pressing the key assigned to Print Screen.
    Hopefully this was helpful... Rick

  • Captivate 4 does not capture Windows 7 dialogs, etc.

I believe this issue was posted back in March (Captiv8r recommended filing a bug report), but I'm wondering if a solution has been found since then.
I can capture other applications and the desktop, but whenever I try to capture a Windows 7 window, dialog or process, I get nothing. Zilch. Can't even print screen. In fact, the "End" function to stop recording doesn't even work unless I open another app. This is such a glaring bug I can't believe Adobe hasn't fixed it. What's going on? How do I fix it?
    I'm using Captivate 4.0.0 Build 1596, on Windows 7 Home Premium, Intel i3, 2.13 GHz, 4GB RAM.

    Hi there
You can make Captivate 4 work on Windows 7 but you have to install a Virtual Machine to do it.
I don't believe Captivate 4 was ever advertised as working or being compatible with Windows 7. Captivate 4 was announced in January 2009 and Windows 7 wasn't available until October of 2009.
So if you read somewhere that Captivate was advertiesed to work without issue on an operating system that wasn't generally available until nearly a year after Captivate 4 was, you were misled. My guess is that if you saw this somewhere it certainly didn't come from Adobe.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Captivate 7 will not import all PowerPoint 2010 slides

I have a 197 2010 PPT slides (no animations or audio).  Trying to import into Captivate 7.  It takes the first 97 slides.  Will it not accept the rest because of file size?  If so, how can I import sections at a time when I am trying to link to the same PPT file?

Thank you for your reply.  While I am very encouraged to learn that you use this feature successfully, my challenge is to do this  while keeping it linked.  I don't think I can successfully link each "section" without confusing the Captivate file.  We plan to make regular updates and it seems that linking to the source will be the most efficient.  This means, I think, that I will need to keep one source file -- and not four.    If I am mistaken, please let me know.

  • Captivate 4 does not Capture Recorded Slides

    Hello,
I tried to add slides to a demo I have been building, set the recording mode to demo, hit the record button and then went through the demo actions.  When I pressed the End Key to stop recording, nothing happened.  No new slides appeared.  When I go back to try to record again, I get a message saying that I can't record until I close down my current recording session.
I have used Captivate since it was RoboDemo and never seen this problem.  What is going on?
    And help is greatly appreciated
    Thank you,

    Hi there
I recently saw another user report success by configuring things to 16 bit color. I'm assuming they meant in Windows itself but can't say for certain.
If I were having your situation I might try the following things in the following order.
First, try eliminating the Hardware acceleration. The actual process may vary from PC to PC. Perhaps if I list how I get to the dialog on my own setup, it will assist in you locating the same area for yours. For mine, I right-clicked my Windows Desktop and selected Properties. This opened my Display Properties. I then clicked the Settings tab. From there, I clicked the Advanced button. This opened another dialog where I could choose further options. I then clicked the Troubleshoot tab. From here I was able to adjust the Hardware Acceleration using a slider as shown below. (I would suggest attempting to set this to None) I'm unsure if this will prompt a restart of your PC.
If that fails to help I would then attempt configuring to 16 bit color and see if that helps. That's configured on the Settings tab of the initial dialog.
Please try these in this order and let us know if either change seems to help.
This has been a fairly elusive issue that only seems to affect a select few users. Lucky you, huh?
    Cheers... Rick

  • TS3989 Photostream not capturing all my photos

I have had an issue where sometimes a picture I take with my iPhone does not get uploaded to my photo stream. For example, I was at the zoo and took about 40 pictures. 2 of them never went to Photostream even though it is still on my phone.
Yesterday, I snapped another picture somewhere and it is still not on my photo stream (even though it remains on the phone).
My question is, is there something that causes this bug?
Also, is there any way to force a photo from the camera roll to Photostream so I can get the missing three photos in there?
    Thanks!

    Hi Winston,
Thanks for your answer. In case this works, this will help me only with the photos I've already taken, but I'll have to repeat this procedure everytime a single picture doesn't made it from the camera roll to the photo stream folder, which I don't think is the right way for the iCloud to work.
I was thinking maybe an OS version upgrade, but I've read the improves for the 5.1.0 and the 5.1.1 versions, and none of them mention the fix of this bug.
    Thanks again for your help.

  • Premiere Pro not capturing all material

We are capturing live video from a Vaddio system mixer through a Matrox MX02 mini into Premiere on a Macbook Pro. Probably 4 of the last 12 video sessions we recorded came up short in Pr. Most of our sessions end up around 70-80 minutes and we might end up capturing 40-45 minutes of it. The time signature is still running when we finish and we are seeing the live image in the capture window.  So, we know it is getting to the computer.  After stopping the live capture and naming the file it proceeds to build audio peaks.  Why is it dropping the last 20-30 minutes of our live capture?
Changed the title to be more clear. Message was edited by: Kevin Monahan

    Kevin,
Thanks for your assistance.  The HDD on my Macbook Pro is formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) with 188 GB of available space.
We record live mainly because that is how our system was designed and set up.  We use a pair of Vaddio PTZ robotic cameras permanently mounted and run through a Vaddio mixer.  Those cameras don't have hard drives on them.
The nature of the sessions we record (Bible teachings) don't require much editing since it is done live. We pretty much have a finished product when we finish the session instead of having hours of editing to do when it is over.
It is just puzzling to me that we watch the whole session as it is being recorded through the capture window in Premiere Pro (since we use that as our record monitor) yet it only saves a portion of it.  I certainly hope you have some ideas that could help.  Thanks,
    Brent

Newly installed Captivate 8 is not capturing my mouse clicks.  Captivate is set to Training & I have my regular settings selected.  I have also worked with the application I am trying to capture before and did not experience any issues.  Thoughts?

    Hi there,
Please tell which Operating system is it?
If it is Windows, then have you installed the 32 bit version or 64 bit of Captivate?
