Captivate 5 - Move to non-quiz slide sets remaining unanswered questions as skipped

I have a captivate 5 project where all of the first slides are general content prior to the quiz questions at the end.
Just before the quiz, I have a slide that summarizes all the answers. Each quiz question is given 4 attempts to
answer them correctly. If tester exceeds 4 attempts, I do a jump to the slide that is a summary (ahead of the
question slides). When the test is stepped into, it correctly keeps the questions that were answered but then
has set all questions after the jump back slide to 'skipped'.
Any way around this?
Thanx.

Continue button on the Score slide will execute the actions you specify in Quiz, Preferences for Pass/Fail. Question Question Slides in Captivate - Captivate blog has more details on functionality of question/score slides.
If you are on CP6 or later, you can add shape buttons on question/score slide: Buttons on Question/Score Slides in Captivate 6? - Captivate blog  has some more details about that feature.

  • Captivate 4 Quiz Slides - Misnumbering?

    Hi Everyone,
I am using Captivate 4 after recent Captivate 3 upgrade.
My quiz slides are "misnumbering." They appear fine in Editing mode (i.e. "1 out of 5"), but when I preview them - and even when I publish the project and load it to the LMS, the slides read "1 out of 35" or something like that.
To cap it off, even if the user gets the 5 questions correct, they still fail because of the misnumbering of the questions (for some reason, the system sees them as needing to complete 35 questions.)
Folks - there are only 5 questions. The slides are right in Editing mode. These are my first projects with Captivate 4 (rather than 3), and I'm both dumbfounded and unimpressed.
    Any ideas????

    Hi there
Likely you have Click Boxes sprinkled through the project with reporting enabled.
Tap the F9 key and the Advanced Interaction dialog should display.
Clear the check boxes and you should be golden.

  • Positioning quiz slide objects

I am working on a Captivate 5 project with many quiz slides. The quiz slides were put into the project by someone else. I need to move the various quiz slide objects (submit button, back button, clear button, question text, review area, hint caption, and so forth).
These objects need to be moved to the same position in all of the quiz slides. I've been moving these objects into place one by one and it is very tedious.
Is there a way to set up a style to move all of these objects on all quiz slides at once?

Each of the objects you mention on the quiz slide are a special type of object in Captivate.
So although Object Styles do not allow you to specify the X and Y coordinates of an object, you CAN just move one of these objects on one slide to the location you want them all to be, and then go to the Position and Size accordion in the Properties tab (Transform accordion in Cp5.5), look for the small dropdown in the top right corner of the accordion, and choose the option to Apply to all items.
The name is a bit misleading because it make you think this will actually apply the positioning setting to every item in the project.  But the fact is that it will only apply it to items OF THE SAME OBJECT TYPE. So although you would never do this for something like text captions in the main part of your project, you can safely do it for things like Submit, Clear, Back, and Next buttons in quiz slides because each of them are actually totally different object types as far as Captivate is concerned.
Note also the option to Apply to all items of same style.  This means you can create custom styles and apply them to just certain buttons or captions if you only wanted SOME items to be positioned in a certain way, while all other items should retain their original positions.

  • Can you make buttons appear "on success" on quiz slide?

I'm not an expert Captivate user and don't know Javascript, so please excuse my ignorance if this question seems strange.
I have a Captivate 6 project with several quiz slides peppered throughout the entire file. In other words, the quiz slides are not grouped together. Each slide, including the quiz slides, has a forward button and a back button.
I would like for users to move forward and backward through the presentation in a linear fashion as they like, and this is working well. However, it would be nice if users weren't able to skip answering the quiz questions. I would like the buttons to appear after the user has answered the quiz question correctly, and then I would like the buttons to stay on the slide thereafter.
Is this possible? Do you have a Javascript resource I could use for the "on success" action, or what other solutions do you recommend?
    Thank you!

    Hello,
When you are talking about the default buttons Back and Next that you find on question slides, you don't have much control over them. As you probably did see they do not even appear as separate objects on the timeline. And I doubt that Javascript could realize what you want.
Try first to understand how the work flow of question slides is designed:
    http://blog.lilybiri.com/question-question-slides-in-captivate
You can drag the Next button under the Clear button (see blog post), normally Next during a Quiz is not needed, since the second step (Press Y or click on the slide) will move to the next slide.
However the Back button is a more tricky button if you really want to have it. Maybe, didn't check it out, try to hide the back button to the user (make it transparent without a stroke) and have an image appear on top of that button after the first step on the question slide. The invisible Back under the image will remain active, it even has absolute priority over other objects.

  • Is it OK to duplicate quiz slides for the sake of allowing multiple attempts to answer the question?

I am using Captivate 4 and have several quiz slides interpersed throughout my project. The user MUST get the answer correct so I am allowing them mulitple attempts to answer the question. The problem I run into is that when the question is answered incorrectly, the user is automatically brought to the next slide and is not able to re-answer the question. How can the user re-answer the question before moving on with the content? Is it OK to duplicate the question slide?
    Example:
Memorial day always falls on a:
    A) Monday
    B)Sunday
    C)Friday
    D)Saturday
If the user selects either B, C, D I want them to see feedback that says they are incorrect and to please select a different answer. Of course, if the user selects A, the correct answer, the captivate just moves on.
(NOTE: I have already added advanced actions to the multiple choice questions showing customized feedback for the incorrect answer...I just need to let the user try the question again!)
It seems like I will get into some complex branching by duplicating the slide for incorrect response...I just need to know if this is OK to do and will it work?
OR - is there a better solution
    Please help. Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
Sorry, but apparently we do live in different time zones, morning over here, have to teach in a few minutes.
Will try to answer this afternoon. To give differentiated feedback, depending on answers, you'll need to construct your question slides instead of using the default Question slides. That means: using Text captions, interactive objects, user variables and advanced actions.

  • Quiz slides - editing button actions

    All,
I have a Captivate 3 project with various quiz slides
throughout that act as section reviews. I was able to have the
submit button send users back to a ToC slide; however, I want the
same to happen when they click "Next" on the quiz slides (if they
just want to skip the review). Is there any way to edit individual
    button actions on quiz slides?
    Andy

FYI - Captivate REALLY hates jumping around where scored
quizzes are concerned... it seems to expect each project to contain
a single scored quiz and it expects the user to complete that quiz
linearly. The "Allow backwards movement" option in the Quiz
preferences may allow things to work as expected, but I doubt the
user will be able to "retake" a section once it's been completed.
Captivate doesn't seem to like that, either.
If you continue to have problems jumping back to your TOC,
try breaking everything into individual projects and have your
links open the appropriate project to create your lesson flows.
Captivate has no problem randomly jumping between projects,
and doing so will also allow users to retake a section if desired.
PS - Since you've created your own TOC, I'm guessing you're
not reporting user results to an Learning Management System of some
sort. The "link between projects" approach is typically not an
option in an LMS environment since the LMS usually needs to launch
all files itself in order to create the necessary results reporting
    interface.

  • Quiz Questions Randomly Skip

I have noticed that my quizzes, which consist of transparent
button interactions, are randomly skipping slides in my latest
lessons (been over a year since my last ones).
Has anyone else had this issue before? I tried fixing this by
applying an additional invisible button that pauses after .5
seconds to keep slides from being skipped, which works, but keeps
    the incorrect caption from displaying.

    Michael,
Were you able to solve your slide-skipping problem?
Could you please clarify -- Was Captivate skipping quiz slides or content slides?
If "quiz slides," then we actaully have had a similar problem, which also happened to courses that were part of a set, so to create a new course, we started with some slides from the previously-developed course. We're wondering whether Captivate's problem of skipping questions was related to the developer's having changed Captivate's default 3-minute quiz-slide-duration to 1 minute. When he changed it back to 3 minutes, the quiz seemed to function correctly. However, at one point we were also wondering whether part of the problem may have been related to several courses being related, i.e., having some similar slides.
    What have you learned?
    Thank you!

  • Where can I find detailed instruction on how to set up Likert quiz slides in Captivate 7?

I am learning Captivate 7 and I'm stuck trying to create a series of Likert quiz slides. I can't find detailed instruction on how to set up the selections on the scale.

I would like to know how to read Likert results. Any help would be appreciated.
I have 15 comments that I need feedback from. There are three possible responses; Seldom, Sometimes, & Often. I would like to assign a point value (numeric value) to each response.
    Seldom=1
    Sometimes=2
    Often=3
Once they have been answered , I would like to then take the total point values of only specific questions and display them. (e.g.Questions 2,4,7,9,13). Is it possible to track and assign a point value to each response. I figure once I get them into variables I can create an Advance Action to do the math. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Adobe Captivate 4 Answers not appearing on quiz slide

I have quiz slides in my project with single answer multiple choice questions.
Sometimes on my slides as they are playing the letters for the choices appear but the answers do not.
I hit the right button on my mouse and refresh the page and they appear.
Please let me know if there is something I can do to assure the answers appear all the time.
    Thank you,
    David Gambal

As far as I am aware, deleting or replacing the Question Title or Question Text captions in quiz questions in any version of Captivate will cause issues.  So don't do it.
You do not need to always choose Optional as your Preferences > Quiz Settings > Required setting.  But if you choose one of the other more restrictive options this drop down offers (Required, Pass Required, Answer All) then you may run into strange issues where your quiz seems to stall for no apparent reason, especially in situations where you try to Retake Quiz or move back and forth from quiz questions to content slides.  I recommend you start with Optional, and then once you have everything working perfectly, try the other settings if you really feel the need.  Personally, I never seem to use them.

  • Is it Possible to Insert Quiz Slides at Set Times During a Video?

    Hi all,
I'm fairly new to Captivate, so I apologise in advance if this question has already been answered and I couldn't find it.
I work in higher education and we create a lot of screencasts with academics speaking over Powerpoint presentations. During a presentation there is often several points where the academic would like to ask the user a question. What I want to know is if there's a way of adding question slides during a video?
    Many thanks,
    Ross

You will have to split up that video to be able to insert slides in between.

  • Quiz slides not to be counted in quiz summary at end - Captivate 4

I have created a course which has quiz slides at the beginning of the cours which I have marked to not be graded.  These slides are knowledge checks and should not be graded nor be counted.  Then I have quiz slides at the end of the course that I do want to be graded.  But I do not want the quiz slides at the beginning of the course "counted" in the summary quiz slide at the end of the course.  I only want the quiz slides at the end counted.
How can I change the settings in the quiz slides to "not" be counted in the quiz summary page at the end of the course.
    Thank you for your assistance.

My best guess here as to the reason for your issue is that you've removed some of the essential objects from the Quiz Slides and that is fouling things up.
Quiz Slides MUST ALWAYS have the default Question Title and Question Text captions present.  These are special caption objects that are ONLY found on quiz question slides.  If you remove them or replace them with normal captions your quiz slides will malfunction inconsistently.
The other thing you may have done here by the sound of it is to set Submit All and then move the Submit All button off the slide into the scrap area.  That's also likely to screw things up.  If you do NOT want the user to see the Submit All button until the final quiz question slide then just change them to Transparent buttons and move them ALMOST off stage, but leave at least a few pixels of the button object still sitting over the top of the stage area.  This will mean the user cannot see (and is very unlikely to click) the Submit All button except for the slide where you WANT them to see it.

  • All Quiz Slides Automatically Changed (by captivate) when ANY change is made to a Quiz Slide

When I make a change to a quiz slide, captivate automatically adds the "Back" button (which was previously deleted) to *all* quiz slides and extends *all* quiz slide length by several seconds. This is very frustrating to have to go back to every quiz slide (which are interspersed thought the project) to remove the "back" button and correct the slide length. Thoughts anyone?

Did you read that blog post that I indicated in the other thread about questions?
Default pausing point is at 1.5 secs. If you leave the Success/Last attempt action to default 'Continue' users have to wait 1.5secs, never 3 secs.
If you want to reduce the time, you can drag the pausing point bit more to the right to decrement the non-active part (not totally till end). That is the best solution, especially if some users will have to work with restricted bandwidth. Or you use Go to Next Slide instead of Continue for the actions.

  • Captivate 7 - HTML5 - Project to External MP4 - Back to Project at Quiz slide

    Hi,
I am new to using Captivate and my company has me using Captivate 7. I am tasked with creating a project (blank project) importing a video, and then returning to the Captivate project to take a quiz. The video quality is not good in HTML5 or MP4 when imported into the project. I have alternatively, linked within the slide a button to the HTML5 video,  and successfully launched the video with perfect quality. I have created a button within the HTML5 video to go back to the original project. I see an option to go back to the project, but not to the specific slide where the quiz begins. What is the best way to accomplish this?

If you set the number of attempts to Infinite, the user will not be able to continue until he has given a correct answer. The answer will not be reset, but he can change it and the Failure caption will appear in which you can put the Feedback. Be sure to hide the playbar (there is an option in the Quiz settings) and to drag the Next button (that doubles as a Skip button during Quiz, is Next during review) under the Clear button (can be used by user to clear the answer). That is only necessary if you want to allow review. If not, uncheck the Next button.

  • Quiz slide issues in Captivate 4

I am having functionality issues with quiz slides in Captivate 4. When taking the quiz, slides will randomly get stuck/grey out and the user has to click the back button and then go forward and the slide will then function correctly. This is not acceptable to the client, for obvious reasons. I have tried re-building the quiz slides (several times) and have also copied the entire project into a clean Captivate file. Nothing seems to make a difference and it is still completely random. I will preview the quiz over and over and sometimes it will work perfectly and then the next time it'll get stuck. This has only started occuring since I upgraded to Cp4. I have had to resort to not using Quiz slides at all and re-creating them with click boxes, but then I miss out on some of the needed functionality that the quiz slides provide (with feedback). I am pulling my hair out! Anyone else having trouble with this?

    Hello all
I have been having the same issue and have spent a bunch of time with Adobe so this is what they sent me and so far my quizzes have been working and I have had no reports of any quiz's freezing up fingers crossed.
This is the latest corospondence from Adobe I have recived.. hope it helps..

1.)Separate all of the different quiz type questions into separate pools
and pull random questions from each pool.
2.)Stop using the multiple choice slides with single correct answer only
as it defeats the usability of the quiz module in Captivate
3.)Verify that video card drivers are compatible with Windows XP.
If you still think that it is the problem with Adobe Captivate then
please perform the below mentioned steps;-
1.) Recreate the Adobe Captivate preferences files.
Recreate the Adobe Captivate preferences files to eliminate problems
that a damaged preferences file might cause.
To recreate the Adobe Captivate preferences files:
    1. Quit Adobe Captivate.
    2. In Windows Explorer, go to C:\Documents and
Settings\[USERNAME]\Application Data\Adobe and move the "Adobe
Captivate" folder to another location (for example, the Desktop).
    3. Start Adobe Captivate. Adobe Captivate creates new preferences

  • Quiz slides backward movement, the Nav bar dissapears

    Hi,
When I enable the back button in quiz slides for CP 6 the nav bar disappears on the previous content slides. It randomly shows up once you click slides from the menu. Is there a way to have backward movement and see the nav bar on previous screens?
I have tried adding the nav bar back to the quiz slides thinking that the user would not be able to move forward until they click the correct answer but that isn't working either.
