Captivate 5 No Effects

Greetings
I have upgraded to Catpivate 5 and the "effects" timeline and button are missing.  I have worked with my IT department and have figured out that when my IT department logs on my machine remotely with “full administrator” rights, the effects work as they should.  When we log back in with my credentials, the effects no longer work.   I have been granted full administrator rights on my machine, and the effects are still not working?????
Please help!

Hello,
On Win7 and Vista it is necessary to start Captivate as an administrator. You do not need full Administrator rights for that, just use the right-click menu and choose 'Run as administrator'. You can set this also in the Properties to be always the case, use the button Advanced.

  • Captivate 5 effect - exit top right

    I created a blank project, imported an image, and attempted to use the special effect of exiting to the top right of the slide. When I play the project, the image exits to the bottom right. I have tried the other effects and they enter and exit as they are described.
    I have also installed Captivate 5.5 to test it and it fails the same way.
    I have had several colleagues try this and all receive the same result. Would someone please test this to see if the same results are received?

    Hello,
    Just checked Exit, Fly Out to Top Right and it worked OK. Could you click on the small number (bottom right) of the object when the effect is applied and check the motion path. In my copy it looked like this screenshot and clearly goes out of the slide to the Top Right
    Or are you pointing to another effect?

  • Captivate 8: Effects - Responsive

    I am trying to have a fade-in text effect via the "Color Effect" feature; but none of these options (as per screen capture below: "Alpha", "AlphaFromTo", "Set Alpha") are working for me.
    Any suggestions?

    Why are you not using a simple Fade in Transition? Look in the Timing panel for transitions.

  • Smart Object Effects Not Shown in 'Play Slide' But Shown in Other 'Play' Modes?

    Hi,
    In Captivate 7, effects which I add to smart objects using 'Add Effect' in the Effects tab do not show when I 'Play Slide' but do show in any other 'Play' mode e.g. 'Play Project'.  Any thoughts would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Richard

    F3 Play Slide is only going to show you what you can see in Edit mode.  It only moves the frame cursor across the timeline but does not publish the project to an output.
    You can see a Live Preview of the effect applied to a given object by opening the Effects tab (Window > Effect), selecting the object on the slide, and then clicking Live Preview button.
    But the best way to see how everything works is to either hit Cntrl + ENTER to publish and preview the project, or else hit F10 to publish to browser.

  • Captivate 7 Animations

    Are there any additional free animations that we can download for Captivate 7?

    I am pretty sure they are all still there. I have used Flash to export the swf animations as looping gifs animations so they will play in both the swf and the HTML5 publish formats. I remember that Flash popped up a window that the Fla file was Actionscript 1 and it would be updated to 3. That hints that they have been part of the collection for a long time. Perhaps when you are clicking on the insert animation option it is pointing to a different folder than it should. I have redirected mine a time or two to a custom animation I have in my documents folder and had to point it back to the Captivate animation folder. To find the default folder for Captivate, go to the location where applications are on your system. Look for Captivate 7. Go to Gallery/swf Animations.
    There are a lot of nice, free gif animations avaialble on the net and they are easy to make if you want anything custom. I have used GIMP (open source, free) and later when I got Photoshop I started using that. I have made blinking lights for simulated control panels, boiling water for beakers and one for a pot on a stove, running dogs (you make them running in place and then use Captivate motion effects to move it across the screen), and more. It isn't hard and it it a lot of fun. One fo our big projects starting up for the next school year will be K to 3rd grade math courses. We are working to design characters right now. We plan to use gif animations for things that make sense to loop such as eye blinks, walk cycles, head nods, etc.
    If you find free swf animations in fla format that you are allowed to use, you can export/movie and get a gif version.

  • Blurred Text in Exported SWF

    I have created a project using C3 and when I export all of
    the text appears blurred or bold.
    You can see one slide from my project and published swf from
    the following link
    untitled.zip
    Any help to get this looking better would be greatly
    appreciated....
    Thanks.
    Andrew

    Hi Andrew and welcome to our community
    Looks as if this is something you imported from PowerPoint,
    no? Assuming I'm correct with this, you are seeing a slight
    degradation because Captivate is resizing the background as it
    comes in. There are a couple of things you can do here.
    1. You could reconfigure your PowerPoint presentation to
    display in a window, then simply record it using Captivate as you
    play it back. That should result in crystal clear slides.
    2. This one was offered by Kevin Siegel in his newsletter:
    Let's assume that your Captivate projects are all set up at
    800 x 600 pixels and you've been asked to import a PowerPoint
    presentation that was set up at 8 x 10 inches. There is no way
    Captivate can effectively resize or convert the 8 x 10 inch
    PowerPoint document down to 800 x 600 pixels--the sizes are not
    proportional.
    The trick is to get the PowerPoint presentation resized to
    800 x 600 before you import it into Captivate. However,
    PowerPoint's Page Setup is in inches, not in pixels. How are you
    going to make the conversion? In your head? A fancy conversion
    table? I don't think so. Try this instead.
    1. Open the Captivate project that will be receiving the
    PowerPoint presentation
    2. Right-click any slide and choose Copy Background
    3. Switch to PowerPoint and create a new presentation
    4. Choose Edit > Paste to paste the Captivate background
    into the PowerPoint presentation as an image
    5. Right-click the image and choose Format Picture
    6. On the Size tab, notice the Height and Width of the
    picture (you should write the numbers down now)
    7. Click Cancel and close the PowerPoint presentation
    8. Open the PowerPoint presentation you intend to import
    into Captivate
    9. Choose File > Page Setup
    10. Change the Width and Height to match the size of the
    picture (you did write those numbers down, didn't you?)
    11. Click OK
    12. Go through your PowerPoint presentation. You may need to
    adjust some of the text if the new size is dramatically different
    from the original size
    13. Save and close the PowerPoint presentation
    14. Back in Captivate, open a Captivate project that is the
    same size as the PowerPoint presentation you resized (in the
    example above, that would be 800x600 pixels).
    15. Choose File > Import > PowerPoint Slides.
    16. Open the PowerPoint presentation you resized earlier.
    After the import process, you'll notice that the size of the
    imported PowerPoint slides match your existing Captivate slides. In
    addition, the image quality of the backgrounds should be pretty
    darned good--much better than you would see if you tried the old
    method, which was essentially trying to coax a round-peg into a
    square hole.
    Hopefully something here was useful... Rick

  • Captive 6 file publish to html 5 with swf animations

    hi..i created one project in captivate 6. i used some swf animations for it. i want to publish my project for HTML 5. But swf animations are not supported in HTML 5 file. so pls give me any solution , how i publish my project  for HTML 5?. thanks

    Well, for starters, as you already know that SWF won't work on most HTML5 devices, the obvious first step is to remove all SWF components from your course.
    If you still want to have animation in your course content, your alternatives are:
    Build the animation in Captivate using Effects, but limit those effects to the ones supported for HTML5 output.
    Build your animations as Animated GIFs in a graphics editor and bring them into Cp afterward.
    Build your animations in Adobe Edge and merge them with Captivate output after publishing.

  • Unity: "Adobe is not firmly committed"

    Today Unity announced they don't see Adobe being firmly committed to the future development of Flash and will remove Flash support for Unity. Not the best PR for Flash and Adobe. Will we see a strong roadmap for Flash and gaming soon or is Unity doing the right thing?...
    http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/191112/Unity_drops_Flash_support_says_Adobe_is_not_firm ly_committed.php
    /KC

    Adobe does a great job of making it look like they really don't give a crap about older tools until they just fall under their own weight. It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Several products have already died this way, and others are just barely hanging on by their fingernails (looking at you, Director, ColdFusion).
    What you need to take from this is that it doesn't matter that Adobe has a lot of other products that hook into Flash in important ways, such as Captivate, After Effects, and even InDesign. Adobe is simply ham-handed at handling the PR for products that are no longer considered "cool." They have absolutely zero skill at resurrecting interest in a technology that has taken a pr hit. My personal theory is that this is because their higher-ups lose interest in a technology that gets slightly tarnished even before the rest of the internet has time to get to that point--even if they own the technology in question.
    This means that you can expect Flash to basically molder away for a long time before disappearing. Adobe shows few signs of even realizing they have a skill gap here, much less taking steps to address the problem. You could argue putting Mesh in a higher-level position was a step in the right direction, but it does not look like he has been able to do much to stop the bleeding. This could be because he's a developer at root and just isn't equipped to fix a marketing/pr problem, or it could be because they haven't really given him the authority to do what would be needed to resolve the issue (similar to what happened with the Director of eLearning when Adobe EOD'ed Authorware).
    Does this mean that you can't make money with Flash? No. The Titanic may be sinking, but it's huge, and it will be many hours before the orchestra sinks below the waves. Not only does Adobe have many products that are tied to Flash, but many other companies do as well, and an ecosystem that large takes a long time to fall apart. Adobe EOD'ed Authorware in 2007, and I didn't fire my last AW client until 2010, and that was a much smaller ecosystem that had been hanging on by its fingernails for a couple of years already.
    Smart companies planning projects are going to have to gradually move away from Flash, not because of the technology itself, but because of Adobe's abysmal record on being able to recover from these sorts of situations. But that process takes time, and you can still play for the guests that are abandoning ship as long as you have one eye on the lifeboat you're planning to get onto when you reach the water line.

  • How to create a rollover button effect in Captivate 7?

    Hi,
    I recently upgraded from Captivate 6 to Captivate 7 and am curious to know how I can create a rollover state for a SmartShape button. Basically, let's say I have a SmartShape being used as a button. What I want is to have the button have a glow effect and a shadow effect each time the mouse is hovered over it. Is there an easier way than having two objects on the slide -- one as the normal state and one the mouse hoever image. What I'm thinking is that the mouse hovered state image will have it's 'Visible in Output' set as unchecked and I can use an Advanced Action to show the object on mouse hover. Perhaps I can have the mouse hovered state image as a rollover SmartShape too?
    Nonetheless, this looks like too much work. If I have 10 clickables on the page for which I want rollover effects, I would need to have 10 additional objects with their rollover states -- just seems like too much, but perhaps that's the Captivate way. Or I am I missing the obvious?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Sean

    Most people would say the easiest way to achieve what you are talking about would be to just create your own custom image button in a graphics editor and give the Over state image having the glow effect that you want.
    If you decide to go that route, this tutorial describes the process of creating an image button:
    http://www.infosemantics.com.au/adobe-captivate/create-custom-image-buttons
    Another possibility is that you can use the Infosemantics Event Handler widget to trigger an Apply Effect action and use the Glow filter as the effect.
    However, this may require some tweaking since it's not that easy to time effects that are applied via an advanced action.

  • Animation effects not playing correctly in captivate 6 (playing last frame first?)

    Hi there,
    Currently in captivate 6 I have a problem where when an item is coming in using an animation effect the image is flashing up very breifly, dissapearing then playing the animation as it should. it is almost as if it is playing the last split second first then looping round. This only applies to some of the items and not all of them, I have tried redoing them only for the same problem to occur. There is only 1 entrance effect playing on each item and there are 4 items on screen, the second and third images are the ones causing problems although the text and fitst image is fine. I have tried toggling sync with project. This also occurs both in publish and in preview
    Any other ideas?

    Hi Vish,
    All of the items in question are set to display for the rest of the slide and the effect lasts less then a second where each item is on screen for 10+ seconds so there is plenty of the for the entrance effect to play out.
    I have noticed however if I set all of the items with effects to start on the start of the slide the effect plays correctly but that means it isnt synced to the voiceover.

  • "Flip-book"  like image effect in Captivate 5

    Hello all ! New to the forum and pretty new to captivate over here ! I just wondered if you could help me with something ! How to make a flip-book like image effect ? There is an example on slide 3 of this Captivate example : http://www.adobe.com/products/captivate/educators/include/softskills_training/modal.html?w idth=752&height=440    Any help would be great !  And.. why is it everytime I press Enter it it drops the whole paragraph instead of making a new line ?   Thanks !
    I noticed the link doesn't seem to work,http://www.adobe.com/uk/products/captivate/
    The presentation I mean is called "soft skills training"
    Any help would be  great !

    Hi Scott.
    As far as I know, that is not a function built into Cp5.  It looks like some kind of flash animation/widget built otuside Captivate and then imported.
    If someone else knows otherwise, please chime in.  Or if that widget can be downloaded somewhere, I'd love to take a look at it.

  • How to show mouse over and mouse out effect on a character in Captivate 8 ?

    Hi,

    That's exactly what you need to do.
    Put your character image on the stage.
    Insert the rollover image interaction, select the same image for the rollover image.
    Place the rollover area over the original image and cover the original with the rollover image.
    Edit the rollover image in Captivate to adjust saturation, etc.
    You can also add an effect to that image.

    Hi there
    What is your project type? Responsive? If so, that's why animation is disabled. Animations are usually built in Flash and Responsive output doesn't "do" Flash.

  • Problems enabling editing of parameters for effects in Captivate 5

    Has anyone managed to successfully implement the instructions in:
    Creating custom effects in Adobe Flash
    To enable editing of parameters:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/captivate/cp/using/WSedb8e841cbc0b7966f3767e7127e259e115-8000. html
    I have tried and the values of the parameters are not read.  For example, I created my own version of Fly In From Bottom Right.xml to allow customization of the x value:
    <Motion duration="60" xmlns="fl.motion.*" xmlns:geom="flash.geom.*" xmlns:filters="flash.filters.*">
        <source>
            <Source frameRate="30" x="274.95" y="163.95" scaleX="1" scaleY="1" rotation="0" elementType="movie clip" symbolName="Text caption">
                <dimensions>
                    <geom:Rectangle left="-87.95" top="-32" width="175.95" height="64"/>
                </dimensions>
                <transformationPoint>
                    <geom:Point x="0.5" y="0.5"/>
                </transformationPoint>
            </Source>
        </source>
        <effect_config  effect_type="motion_path">
              <config_item>
            <effect_property type="number" propertyvalue="MY_X" defaultvalue="100"></effect_property>
              </config_item>
            </effect_config>
        <Keyframe index="0" tweenSnap="true" tweenSync="true" x="MY_X" y="600">
            <tweens>
                <SimpleEase ease="0"/>
            </tweens>
        </Keyframe>
        <Keyframe index="59" x="0" y="0"/>
    </Motion>
    This is successfully parsed but the value is not taken into account in the animation.  It seems to be set to 0, regardless of what I set it to in the XML and Captivate shows the property as editable but no matter what you enter it does not accept it and returns to 0.
    Any help with this would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    David

    Good Day fellow forum users,
    I'm having the same problem with this that David has.  It doesn't matter what parameter I change the animation behaves exactly the same.
    I am attempting to have an image fly out left however, the image only partially 'leaves the screen'.  I have the effect tied to a button in an attempt to give my learners a way to change from one 'monitor screen' to another.  If I click the button twice the image will fully leave the screen.
    I would rather accomplish this effect with a single button press.
    I could just build this in Flash (and ultimately will do so) but if I can accomplish it within Cp that would be great.  The rest of my team isn't Flash savvy and I would like to have everyone able to edit the final product if necessary.
    Any suggestions are appreciated.
    Norm

  • Your favorite resources about effective learning in Captivate?

    Hi,
    I'm just getting started with Captivate, though I've been working in instructional design in digital publishing for education for a while. Now I'm going for my master's, and I'm planning on doing some hands-on action research about effective ways to creating branching-path experiences using Captivate.
    I'd love to know your favorite websites, articles, blogs, books, etc. for finding out how best to use Captivate, not just technically, but some pedagogical some best practices. The same applies to any sources about best practice for branching-path projects as well. I'm already exploring Adobe's offerings.
    Thanks!

    For python, I like the cherrypy code. Clean and down to earth. For c, I have a number of favorite projects: evince, zlib, dwm, openbox, lua, libpeas, cogl, and clutter. Look on Browse github by language, look at the top projects and see how they are put together, but don't get discouraged! Some of the projects are daunting, absolutely massive, or have weird programming style. Just stick to your guns and look for the simple ones, when you are ready, go back and look at the really complex projects (V8 anyone?) and try to figure out the entry point and work you way from there. I would also highly recommend ack to help you find stuff in a source tree.
