Captivate 5 on the Mac

Happy that Captivate will finally be available for the Mac.
However, we are a PC and a Mac shop.
I am assuming I will need 2 separate licenses?
Also, does anyone know if I design a movie on the Mac, can I edit it and incorporate it into a PC-designed movie??
Any help is appreciated!
Thanks!
Erika

I don't have an answer, but in previous Adobe products they have shipped one CD/DVD with both Mac/Windows versions on it.  I don't know if they will be doing that now.  I also run both (Windows using Boot Camp on my Macbook Pro).  If you install both you could de-authorize one while working on the other.  This is a pain, but it might be an option.

  • Running 2 Instances of Captivate 8 on Mac

I can run 2 instances of Captivate 6 on a PC, but at home I have 8 and I'm on a Mac. When trying to open Captivate again through the Spotlight Search, Captivate would not open again. I did not try opening it through the Applications folder. Is it possible to run 2 instances on a Mac? I'm trying to record a demo of me showing Captivate functions. Thanks!

Thanks for looking into this everybody! I found a solution for Mac users!
    Open the Mac Terminal.
Type: open -n -a "Adobe Captivate"
    Hit Return.
Type open -n -a "Adobe Captivate"
    Hit Return.
The second return opens the second instance of Captivate.
However, it appears as though you may run into issues running 2 instances of Captivate on a Mac. I have not tested an actual recording but as I progress, I will post my results.

    Hi,
the above question refers also to the photos I have saved - do I just save them to a USB memory/Portable HDD and move them to the new MAC?
    Many thanks

download the mac installation file when you are ready.  don't forget to deactivate (help>deactivate) on your pc if you'll no longer need lr on your pc.

  • Unable to import MS PowerPoint slides Captivate 6 on Mac

I have an existing project which I imported two PowerPoint slides into without a problem. I then made changes to the slides in PowerPoint, and when I went to re-import to Captivate, I get this pop-up message:
This is on Mac OS X 10.8.3. I open the same project/PowerPoint presentation on Windows 7, and I am able to import without a problem. The only thing I can think that has changed on the Mac platform is a recent update to the Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac.
    Is this a known issue?
    Thanks.

Sorry to pop in, but was looking at the first screenshot: the chosen resolution is probably not the native resolution of your PPT, moreover you unchecked 'maintain aspect ratio'. Did you ever try to import the PPT at its native resolution, or at least when choosing another to keep the width/height ratio the same? Personally I would not recommend to create a project with another resolution. One of the features that is to me the most annoying in PPT (I avoid using it) is that you have to define the size in a print measuring unit like in or cm (in my case) which is totally crazy for an application that aims at presentations that will be given on a screen where the unit is always pixels. Captivate will translate the PPT-resolution to pixels and propose it, is there a reason why you don't want to use that? If necessary you can always rescale the project in Captivate later on (not recommended neither because of the quality loss).

  • Captivate 5 for Mac - keyboard commands not working

I just fired up Captivate 5 for Mac for the first time and am trying to create a recording, but the command+enter key does not stop the recording and instead captures a screenshot. In fact, every command combination I try does that and the only way to stop the recording is to click on the icon in the status bar at the top. What am I doing wrong? I have searched through the forum and help and don't see anyone else having this problem.

If you're talking about keystroke shortcuts in published browser output, the issue is not Adobe's fault but the fact that browsers get first pick of the keystrokes and assign them to their own browser functions.
There is no way to control what the browser will or will not let through from within the Captivate content.  Each end user's browser can have different settings.
My advice is to stop stressing about using keystrokes.  There are some things that you can achieve when building an application that cannot be replicated exactly when building a browser-based simulation of that same application.

here's how to swap: Order product | Platform, language swap
but i think your license is dual platform.  download the mac version and see if your serial number will activate.  if not, at least, you'll have the 30 day trial to use while waiting for your platform swap.

  • Captivate 6 for Mac too buggy for use (screen corruption, mouse/audio instability)

Corrupt Screens. The main problem is corrupt screens (visually jumbled, with elements of previous screens). The corrupt screens appear in both Preview in a Web Browser and in a published project. I've observed the problem when I capture website interactions (using either Safari or Firefox). It might be isolated to web browsers and not other applications, but I'm not sure. The project slides themselves look fine. The problem occurs during the transition to an HTML/SWF-based preview or published file.
Unfortunately the problem appears to be intermittent and unpredictable: one Preview (in Web Browser) might show one corrupt screen; a subsequent Preview (in Web Browser) might show four corrupt screens (after making no changes to the Captivate file). It appears to be related to various timeline factors (mouse position, mouse duration). I was able to temporarily eliminate the problem in one project file by making sure all mouse elements had a 2/10th second gap before the end of the slide and were no longer than 2 seconds long. But in a later test, controlling for these variables did not work.
There are two other related bugs that occur in Preview or publish:
Mouse. If I move the mouse object from its original position on the timeline, say, from the end of the slide to a position just before, and then move it back to the end of the slide, the result is faulty mouse behavior. It moves very slowly over the first part of its arc, then either skips suddenly to the destination or doesn't complete the arc at all when the slide advances to the next slide.
Audio. Sometimes the audio for a single slide will not play. This is intermittent and unpredictable, like the screen corruption bug. The problem sometimes goes away after moving the mouse on the timeline slightly, but this isn't reliable.
In any case, moving the mouse away from the end of the slide is not a desirable workaround, even when it does work. The delay between the "click" and the slide transition looks sloppy, and is contrary to the expected mouse behavior (to quickly trigger a slide transition).
I have been working with two people at Adobe tech support, but we have not found a solution or isolated the problem. I've also documented several keystroke bugs on this forum. So, after nearly 3 weeks of aggravation, I have concluded that Captivate 6 for Mac has serious bugs and is not reliable. I am forced to go back to Captivate 5.5.

I have experienced the exact same issues.  I've republished files over and over again with unpredictable results.  Missing audio, ghost backgrounds, visual artifacts.  That doesn't even begin to address the other major annoyances like the stage jumping around when you do things like adjust element properties, audio editor opening up half off the screen so that it has to be manually dragged back EACH TIME.
I'm totally frustrated and disgusted with the quality of this product.  I don't care one bit about all the new features it has, I just want the featues that are there to work right and work reliably.  Today alone, I lost over 4 hours of productivity to resolving buggy software issues... I'm not exaggerating, 4 HOURS !.  This is absolutely unacceptable.  The software does NOT work well at all.  Adobe should be horrified with how bad this software performs.  I can't say enough negative things about this without using expletives that are well deserved.
After purchssing adobe software for 25 years, I am running out of patience.  They are too big and too focused on new features instead of just making the ones they have work well.  I used to love Adobe more than any other software company.  That is definitely no longer the case.  I have no intention of up doing any more upgrades after this.  If these APPALLING blatant issues are not resolved before they release version 7,  I will not upgrade and may well consider enlisting others in a class action suit.  Fire all the developers who have a hand in this.  Fire all the managers who signed off on it's readiness.  Go back to the drawing board and make this right.
I fully intend on posting this in every forum I can find.  This software has cost me too much time and money.

  • Download adobe captivate 8 for mac - please give me a link!

    Hi
For almost an hour I am now desperately searching a downloadable version of Adobe Captivae 8 for my Mac.
I purchased a license some time ago (trough my company, this is why it is not connected with my Adobe ID) but after the upgrade of my Mac on Yosemite Adobe Captivate 8 did no longer run. So I had to delete Captivate and now I am desperately trying to download the Software.
Why do you make this so impossible?
Don't you think that people have to re-install their legally purchased software sometimes?
I would like to tell you a bit about my hopeless journey on your website.
First I came to the website and it was automatically set in French, don't ask me why but there was probably a cookie that was sure I am speaking French - which is not the case.
When I finally was able to change to English, I started looking for a download Link. But guess what: there was none. Only a Upgrade Download Link, that didn't work.
Then I had the idea that I could download a trial version of Captivate and enter my serial number afterwards.
So I had first to log-in into this Adobe ID Account - and of course, I didn't remember the password since I am rarely using your service.
So I tried to reset my password but I never got an e-mail from Adobe. So I hat to think very hard about this password and after some tries I find it out.
Finally I logged into my Adobe ID - and it was again - guess what - French. So I spend another 5 Minutes to try to figure out how to change the language.
Then I finally got the following message: You have already installed a trial of Adobe Captivate on your Mac (YES) please enter a valid serial number to continue to use Adobe Captivate Pro (I would love, but dear, I don't have the trial version installed anymore. I had to delete the software on my Mac). So still no software for me :-(
    So what?
Would you please be so kind and send me a link to download Adobe Captivate Pro 8 for Mac?
    Thank you very much!
