Captivate 5 recording to add click boxes on mouse click

Hi,
I have used Captivate in the past and I just installed a trial of V5. I am not able to get the click boxes to appear when recording my software simulations. I am recording in training mode. I click settings, Mode=Training Simulation, and then click the Add Text Captions. When I preview, none of the boxes appear. I have tried in multiple software programs thinking that was the issue, but nothing works.
Does anyone know what I am doing incorrectly?

Hi Rebecca,
What you are doing is correct, but there is one more step.
On the main recording dialog "check the Training checkBox and uncehck the Demo"
This should work.
Please see the attached snapshot.

  • Displaying a caption when multiple click boxes has been clicked in a slide.

I have 9 click boxes in my slide which when clicked opens a different page except 1 click box.1 click box takes the user to the previous page . I want to display a text caption when the user has clicked other 8 click boxes just to make sure they go through all the pages. Is there a way in captivate to do this? If yes, how do I do it?

Since you are not yet familiar with advanced actions (and variables?), will try to explain in detail and provide some links to articles/blog posts as well.
Create 8 user variables, one for each click box (Project, Variables); I will label them v_one, v_two.....v_eight It is not necessary to give a default value
Create another user variable v_counter that will be incremented whenever a click box has been clicked for the first time
Create a first click box (set to visible), label it CB_One (find that easier) and in the Properties panel, Action accordion, On Success change the action to 'Execute Advanced actions'. Then open the actions dialog box with the Folder icon that appears.
You have to create a conditional action, so select that type, and label it CB_One (is possible, an exception because normally you cannot have same labels); this action will need two decisions (have a look at my video tutorial: http://kb2.adobe.com/community/publishing/858/cpsid_85847.html):
First decision 'Visited' checks if the click box has already been clicked, visible when the value of v_one = 1; if this is not the case (first click) v_one gets the value=1 and the counter v_counter is incremented
Second decision 'Check' checks the value of the counter, and shows an initially invisible button (I choose a button, BtNext but you can also have a click box) if the counter reaches 8, bummer the forum doesn't allow me to insert an image, have to type:
IF section                       v_counter is equal to 8
    Actions section             Show BtNext
Duplicate the click box 7 times, label them CB_Two,  ..... CB_Eight  (beware: case sensitivity). To each copy the same advanced action is attached, but you'll have to create duplicate actions for each one CB_Two....  In the duplicates you have to replace the variable v_one by the proper variable (v_two...) in the first decision; the second decision remains the same

  • How to make page continue after all click boxes have been clicked (CP6)

    Hi,
I have a standard non quiz hotspot page in my course. I want this page to continue to show a final animation once the learner has clicked all click boxes on screen.
At the moment, I have set up Advanced Actions to make the click boxes show the relevant information successfully. I have also set up an array which tells the page to continue once all the click boxes have been clicked, however the page does not continue until the user clicks on the page again AFTER clicking all the click boxes.
    Why is this happening?
    Thanks

Lilybiri, I had problem with advanced actions and you helped me a great deal with your skills and your template for reusing.
I will try to explain the best I can, If there are 3 buttons on a slide, and when each one is clicked: they assign some variable from 0 to 1, conditional action says if all assigned variables are 1 then do action for that slide, slide action can be: show 4th button (initially invisible) for example. That 4th button will be visible only if you proceed to some other slide by clicking one of those first 3 buttons (via jump to slide), and when you navigate back to that initial slide 4th button will be visible. This was the only way for me to show 4th button which is initially invisible on a slide with conditional actions. Standard actions works just fine: you click something and assigned action is performed. But, again for conditional actions slide needs to be reloaded.  For me it works only this way otherwise nothing happens on a slide when I have situation like this (with conditional actions). This is why I have replied in this way since I have recognized my problem. Am I wrong? And yes, event is triggered on slide Enter.

  • Record Audio in Captivate 4 for PP Slide with multiple mouse click animation

I have a power point presentation imported into  Captivate 4.  Several of the slides have custom animation that ocurr's on mouse click. What is the best way to record the audio for these slides and have the audio sync to the right portion of the slide?

I am afraid there is no direct way to solve your problem. You can identify the time at which the movie stops because of an on-click animation. At every location, insert a transparent caption (blank caption) and add audio to the caption.
Thus once the movie pauses for the user to click, audio wont appear till user click on the swf. Once he does, movie timeline will move ahead and transparent caption will appear thus playing the audio file.
Hope this helps. Do let us know if it works.

  • How to add an object on mouse click?

i am trying to add an object on user's mouse click...but not getting how?
    can anyone help me?

You could create the movieclip object and put it in the library with a linkage name, e.g. mcExample and then on the main _root. timeline add something like:
    this.onMouseDown = function(){
    mcExample = this.attachMovie("mcExample", "mcExample", 1);
This attaches the movieclip from the library onto the stage when the left mouse button is pressed. You can then manipulate the movieclip like any other using its identifier: mcExample. If you want to change the name of the attached movieclip then change the second parameter of attachMovie

  • Pop-up box upon mouse click without separate URL

    Hi there,
I'm not sure what to call this, so I have referred to it as a "pop-up box upon click" for lack of a better description. I am an amateur and have taught myself how to make this site.
Hi there, here is what I am trying to do...There is a page on my website that display details about our shows. Instead of having all info displayed all the way down the page, I want it to be tucked away neatly, so the viewer can click it for more details. All they would see initially is just the date and location. I have tried the Adobe spry collapsible panel but I'm not a fan of it and it keeps breaking when I try to update it.
How I want it to look and behave is like the Photos page on my website. I want to click whichever show I am interested in reading more about, and have a neat and clean little box pop up with the details and an 'X' to close it (exactly looking and behaving like when I click a picture thumbnail to enlarge it). It would be nice if the content inside the box was selectable for the viewer as well so they can copy and paste the info. I don't want to have to create and link to new page for evey single show we book.
Please let me know a code I can implement to do this, how to edit the content inside the new box, and where to put it on my page's code.
Website I'm wanting this on: www.dieseljunkies.ca > Shows
Software I am using: Adobe Dreamweaver CS3
    Thanks!

Just went and dl'ed the adobe widget browser and found something under lightbox called clearbox which can display web content. I added it to "My Widgets". It tells me to import it into dreamweaver, to go to Insert>My Widgets and select the widget. Only problem there is no Insert>Widgets in Dreamweaver CS3 for PC. I am quite lost now. I tried to configure it and all that but no clue where it is saving to or how to go about this. I am wondering what an easy step by step would be for this eg:
    1 Open Dreamweaver
2 insert a clearbox link on your page by Doing "this"
    3 Insert "this" code "here"
4 host "this" file on your website's ftp
5 edit "this" part of the code for content and "this" part for the header

  • Using Advanced Actions to Make a button appear only after three other click boxes have been clicked.

I'm working on an interactive brief, and I'm making slides where the user has to click the correct items and then a "Contine" or "Next" button appears so they can move to the next slide.  Any help out there?  I have been using Captivete but I do not have a lot of experience withthe Advanced Actions.  I'm sure this is a pretty simple solution for all you captivate Wizards out there.
    I'm using Captivate 5.5.
    Thanks for any help!
    heymattmann

    Hi Matt,
Can you post some pictures of the Advanced Actions you're trying to use that aren't working? It might give people some ideas of specific ways to help you. It can be a bit frustrating to start out, since there's not a lot out there in Adobe's official stuff for Adobe Actions, but Lilybiri's blog really is a great resource.
Others might do this differently, but for your scenario, I would create 3 similar Advanced Actions, each one assigned to execute On Success for a clickbox, and three Variables to keep track of whether or not the user has clicked a particular box. There's also your next button, which starts out hidden. Make sure to name it something like NextButton so you can find it easily in the dropdown box when making your Advanced Actions.
So I might name the actions and variables: actionClickBox1, actionClickBox2, actionClickBox3, and varClickBox1, varClickBox2, varClickBox3 (when you create the variables, set their default values to 0). You can call them whatever you want, just don't reuse names anywhere else-- you will run into problems.
The idea behind the actions is that each time the user clicks a box, you change the variable for that box to keep track of the fact that it has been clicked. That part you were on the right track for. The next part of the action then checks to see if all the clickboxes have been clicked (aka, if all the variables have been changed from their original values to the new one). If they are, it shows a next button. If not, it does nothing.
From what you said, I think you were trying to add an Advanced Action to show the next button to the next button itself. This would only execute when the user clicks that button, which makes it impossible-- you'd have to click the next button in order to show the button so that you can click it... oh dear. The decision of whether or not to show the next button needs to be part of the clickbox actions, so that upon clicking the third and final box, the next button will pop up. Because it makes this decision (to show or not to show) on each clickbox, the order you click them in doesn't matter. It will only show the next button once all the variables have been changed.
You will see that the actions are all very similar, except for the variable that they change:
    actionClickBox1
first tab in the conditional action:
if varClickBox1 is equal to 0 <-- default value of variables must be 0
         then assign varClickBox1 with 1
second tab in the conditional action:
if varClickBox1 is equal to 1 AND
if varClickBox2 is equal to 1 AND
if varClickBox3 is equal to 1
         then show NextButton
    actionClickBox2
first tab in the conditional action:
if varClickBox2 is equal to 0
         then assign varClickBox2 with 1
second tab in the conditional action:
if varClickBox1 is equal to 1 AND
if varClickBox2 is equal to 1 AND
if varClickBox3 is equal to 1
         then show NextButton
    actionClickBox3
first tab in the conditional action:
if varClickBox3 is equal to 0
         then assign varClickBox3 with 1
second tab in the conditional action:
if varClickBox1 is equal to 1 AND
if varClickBox2 is equal to 1 AND
if varClickBox3 is equal to 1
         then show NextButton
Hint: If you set up one of these actions and save it, you can click a button in the top right hand corner to duplicate it and then just change the few things that are different to make the next action. It saves you from having to create it three times from scratch!
Wow, this is long... I hope it isn't overwhelming in its length, and that it helps! Advanced Actions really are a cool feature once you get past their quirks...

  • Left Mouse Click Mimics Right Mouse Click in Toolbar

I posted this a few weeks ago and after deleting the Photoshop settings file the problem was resolved. But then the problem started happening again, but this time deleting the settings file doesn't fix the problem. Here's the recap:
I'm using Photoshop CS3 10.0.1 on Snow Leopard. When I single click (left click) on a tool in the tool palette it behaves like a right click and opens the flyouts. I changed my double click speed from fast all the way down to slow but the problem persists.
This doesn't make PS CS3 unusable, but it brings production down because to use a tool I have to click twice (first click opens the fly-out, and then I have to click again to select the tool I want from the tools available on the fly-out). I don't have this problem in any other Adobe CS3 application, only Photoshop.
Again, I deleted the Photoshop settings file and this worked once, then problem started again, and deleting the settings file doesn't make a difference now. Thanks for any help!

I'm at a loss. I've got my old iMac mouse (1 button), a real nice Logitech Laser 5300 wireless, my MacBook touchpad, and I've even used a MagicMouse with PS and have never seen this. Even when the batteries are going in my wireless, it doesn't do it.
How much RAM do you have allocated to PS?

  • How can a click box support CTRL/SHIFT/ALT in Captivate?

    Hi all,
How can a click box support CTRL/SHIFT/ALT in Captivate ?
i.e., It can support click, double click, and right click, can it support "CTRL/SHIFT/ALT" when clicking?
I need this feature because some user operation requires this.
        We're using Captivate 5.
Could anybody give me some suggestion?  Tahnks.
    Joseph

Although you can add Ctrl, Alt and Shift shortcuts to click boxes, they may or may not work, depending on the context where the presentation is running.
The following comments relate to Captivate 5 presentations.
If you publish the presentation as an exe file, Shift and Ctrl click boxes will work, but not Alt click boxes. Right-clicks won't be detected, either.
If you publish as htm + swf for viewing in a browser, you can avoid the right-click problem, but which  shortcuts get detected depends on which browser is being used.
I have tested Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Opera and Safari, with the following results:
Alt: No browser passes Alt shortcuts through to the Flash player. If the Alt shortcut is meaningful to the browser itself, that's what happens (e.g., Alt+T will display the Tools menu in Internet Explorer; otherwise nothing happens). Note: Alt click boxes work when you test the presentation in an F8 preview window, but they don't work when the presentation has been published, so the F8 preview is misleading.
Ctrl: All except Internet Explorer pass all Ctrl shortcuts to the Flash Player, so they are generally safe to use if you can ensure the user will not view the presentation in IE. IE keeps most Ctrl shortcuts for itself, but there are a few (e.g., Ctrl+G) that IE passes to Flash, so you can use Ctrl+G freely, knowing it will work in every browser. Ctrl+M and Ctrl+U are two others
Shift: All, including Internet Explorer pass Shift shortcuts to the Flash Player. I have sometimes therefore set up a simulation with click boxes that look for a Shift+ shortcut key instead of Alt+, and included an apologetic prompt to tell the user to do so.
It's a mess! It is essential to test your simulation in whatever environments it will be used in, and adapt it if some shortcut you really want to use doesn't work.

  • Using CTRL+Mouse Click as Action

I recorded a s/w simulation where I want the user to follow a sequence of keystrokes to ensure comprehension. I came across one sequence which I cannot get to work. I go into properties of the click box and select Actions>Shortcuts to record the key sequence CTRL + Left Mouse click but it does not record the CTRL key when combined with the mouse click. If I use CTRL plus some other keyboard key it works fine. Currently using the mouse click alone will allow the user to go to the next step but in the s/w this will not work so could be misleading.
Does anyone know how to overcome this hurdle or if it is a s/w limitation do you have any suggestions to mitigate it? I was thinking of having the key sequence as a test question to ensure those taking the course absorbed the information.
I found another thread a couple of years ago where it sounded like it was not possible but was curious if things have changed as I am using Captivate 5.
    Thanks
    Roshan

    Hi Roshan,
The "CTRL+Mouse Click " can't be used as shortcut key for a click box in Captivate 5.
    Thanks,

  • Single click in a double click box

    Captivate 3.
I have two click boxes; one set for a single click and the
other for a double click. Both have failure captions. When I single
click in the box set for a double click, nothing happens. It
appears to be ignored. I would like the failure caption for the
double click box to display if the user clicks only once inside the
    box. Is this possible?

Hi jimclennon and welcome to our community
I doubt you will be able to accomplish this easily. Failure
captions normally appear when you define a click box area and click
outside the area. As you are clicking
inside a click box area, but only clicking once, Captivate
probably isn't sensing a wrong action is occurring.
This is something you may wish to submit as a feature request

  • Change default "on success" behavior for click box?

    Hello,
I create a lot of pptx --> Adobe Captivate eLearnings, and as you know, when the slides are imported, they are given a click box, which when clicked, advance the user to the next slide. I want to keep the click boxes to stop the project at the end of each slide,  but dont want the user to be able to interact with it. (I have a customized navigation bar)  I can achieve this by changing the "on success" behavior to "no action".  Question -- do i have to do this for every click box?  Unfortunately, I cannot apply this to all click boxes like I can apply the timing settings, for example.
    Thanks for any help!!
    Ryan

As far as I know....and hopefully someone can correct me (I would be curious for sure)... but I don't think you can change the properties of multiple click boxes across slides all at the same time. Other items like buttons and smart shapes can be visually adjusted using the Object style manager, but as far as On Success options and such...unless you select them all in a given slide, you can't. Clickboxes can't even be added to master slides unfortunately. If the clickbox can be in a common place across slides, I would delete all of the clickboxes except the first, make the necessary changes to that one, then do a ctrl+c for copy, and then just paste it into all of the remaining slides. Again, I hope there's an easier way someone can share.

  • Click-box behavior and calling javascript

    Greetings,
While working on a project I have noticed odd behavior
concerning click-box behavior where there are more than one
    click-box on a slide.
    Here is the situation:
I have a Captivate (2) lesson project. In several slides I
have an area on the slide where the user can access material
outside the lesson. They do this via clicking a click-box. The
click-box is set to fire a javascript that opens the additional
content (an outside url) in window that "floats" above the
    currently viewed slide.
The javascript is a standard open browser window script with
    passed parameters.
Here is the script being called (it is located in
    standard.js):
    function openBrWindow(theURL,winName,features)
    window.open(theURL,winName,features);
This script is being called in Captivate in:
Insert -> Click-box -> If the user clicks inside the
box, On Success -> Execute Javascript
An example of a typical call:
Click box -> JavaScript: -> In the window/field is:
    javascript:openBrWindow('
    http://www.mydomain.com/about/org-pol/f-07/f-07-016.html','mypolicy','width=800,height=600 ,scrollbars=yes');
This works fine. A window with this URL opens up over the
    stopped slide.
The odd behavior comes in where I have more than one of these
click-boxes on a slide. If the user clicks a second click box, the
correct (different) URL opens up in a window OK, but the slide (now
behind the new, open window) advances. It shouldn't advance to the
next slide. It should stay put until a user clicks a particular
    button to advance.
Has anyone seen this type of behavior before? Is this a bug
in Captivate 2? Or a bad javascript call? Any thoughts?
    Thank you for your input.
    TPK

    Hi TPK
When you edit the properties of the Click Box, note that
there are two buttons to the right of the "JavaScript" field. One
is an ellipsis ( ... ) and you probably clicked that one to enter
the script. The other is a down arrow. You need to click the down
arrow and DE-select the option labeled "Continue playing project".
You will need to do this for each Click Box the user may interact
with where you don't want the slide to continue if the user clicks.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Multiple click boxes on one slide; Pausing project

    I'm using Captivate 5.5.
I have four click boxes on a slide.  Three click boxes upon clicking show an image and then show a success caption.  The forth click box shows a success caption but also is set to "pause project until user clicks."
Unfortunately, if any of the three click boxes are clicked it advances the playhead even though the forth click box was never clicked.  How can I pause the project until only the forth click box is activated no matter if the other three click boxes have been previously clicked?

    Hello,
Default behavior of click boxes is to trigger the simple action that is assigned to it AND at the same time to release the play head. Even if those 3 click boxes had a pause, at the same moment as the fourth, this would have happened. If you put the pausing point of the fourth click box later than the pausing of the first three, it will work fine if the user clicks only one out of 3 click boxes.
If you replace the simple action by a (eventually one-line) advanced standard action, the play head is not released:

  • How can I display the failure caption with click box when using function keys to navigate a sim?

I am using the keyboard function keys to navigate a simulation using Click Boxes. For instance, F7 advances the simulation to the next screen, but if the learner selects F5, a failure caption displays. I have tried deleting and re-entering the click box, placing the click box at the top of the timeline levels, starting the click box at 0 and 0.5, making the click box visible and invisible, and make the click box the entire size of the screen.

Well, I guess that's that. Thanks for replying, I do appreciate it or else I would have been trying for days, wasting all sorts of time.
    Until we meet again,
