Captivate 5, text animations, publish settings

Hello All,
I have a real problem with captivate 5 and or my system.
I installed CP5, and applied the VeelaUpgrader.dll, my text animations played, as did
other swf animations (some in AS2).
I attempted to upgrade CP5 using the update patch, the patch install failed every time.
I uninstalled CP5, and then re-installed. The patch upgrade ran (or at least it said the patch
was applied).
I developed a new project from an old project, delete all but two slides and renamed the project.
I applied the CPAnimationUtils.dll, the VeelaUpgrader.dll, and the patch from this blog:
http://blogs.adobe.com/captivate/2011/01/get-adobe-captivate-5-content-with-text-animation s-working-in-latest-flash-player-without-republishing.html.
I added some text animations to my project, called my_project_b.cptx, the old project was called
my_project_a.cptx.  I re-published my_project_b.cptx as my_project_b, the text animations do
not play in the swf or the html file.  No text animations play.
I closed my_project_b.cptx and re-opened the file, made some changes, and opened the publish
dialog window (Shift-F12).  The project title reverts to "my_project_a", I changed the title to
my_project_b, and republished the swf and the htmls as my_project_b.  It publishs the files
but never saves the my_project_b name, it always reverts to "my_project_a".
Any ideas on any of this?  do I try to call Adobe?
my current version of Captivate is 5.0.1.624, Flash Player 10.2.152.26 (? suspect), and Windows XP SP3
Ugh!!!

Hello RodWard,
I tried the steps you mentioned.  This works.  But... I do not understand why this works.
It seems that that behaviour is very strange.  Could this issue be related to the cache?
Thanks for the workaround,

  • Captivate 5 - Text Animation Does not Play on Slide 1 Only

    I am using Captivate 5, updated to 5.0.1, with Windows XP, SP 3. Publishing as Export to HTML.
    The problem I am ecperienced just started in the last few days, sometime after 3/18/2011. I think this issue is different from similar problems reported in January, which seemed to impact all text animations.
    The problem is that text animations on slide 1 work OK in slide preview mode, but do not display at all in project preview mode or when published.
    Text animations work on all other slides. If I put a .blank slide in the project, so the failing slide 1 becomes slide 2, then the text animation plays OK, but I do not like such a workaround.
    In deliverables generated on 3/18, the text animations work on slide 1. If I regerate the same projects, the slide 1 animations no longer work.
    Has something been changed with Captivate 5 or Flash that is causing this problem? Any suggestions?

    I don't think you are missing anything. I am using the "Light_PAssage" animantion, but switching to the one you used has no impact.
    For me, if there is a text animation on slide one, it will play in File->Preview->Play Slide. It will not play in FIle->Preview->Project, From this slide, or Next 5 slides.
    The issue occurs in all my Captivate 5 projects, including projects that previously generated properly working outputs as recently as 2/23/2011.
    Is it possible it's related to Flash player? I am using Adobe Flash Player 10 ActiveX 10.2.152.26.
    I will send an example cptx to your email address. The example includes a blank slide one, and the text on slide 2 plays as expected in the previews and in the generated output. If I remove the blank slide 1, the text animation on the new slide 1 no longer plays.
    Thanks.

  • Text animation not working in Captivate 5

    Hi there -- I am seeing some strange results and need some help troubleshooting.
    I have one project and on the first slide I have an image, a text animation, and video.  I view it and everything plays perfectly.  Here is what the timeline and properties looks like:
    I removed the video and resaved the project under a different name.
    But when I preview the movie, it does not play the text animation.  When I play it from the timeline I do see the text and the animation.  But when I preview the project and publish and view the movie the text animation is not included.
    This is are the settings in the second project (which match the first b/c I simply saved the project as a different name).
    I added another text animation to the second project and that also did not play in preview or after publishing.  But the first project works fine.
    Any ideas on why text animation would be playing in one project but not another project?
    Thanks!

    Text Animation works in one and not in the other.  It doesn't matter the order in which it is located on the slide.
    I have been doing more tests and just ran into an interesting bug.
    I recreated the original steps:
    1) Take the working .cptx (which has graphics, text animation,  and video)
    2) Resave under a new name
    3) Remove the video
    Everything seemed to be working fine.  When I previewed, the text animation works.
    Then I published using two different settings:
    Version 1:  Externalize Skin, AutoPlay, No Preload
    Version 2:  Nothing External, AutoPlay, Preload
    Weird thing is with version 1, the skin is externalized as a separate swf, and it does not play the title text animation.
    But version 2, when nothing is set to be external it plays fine.
    They are both being published from the same exact .cptx only difference is how I published.

  • Problems publishing text animations

    Does anyone know why timings that show in preview don't show in a published version of Captivate 7? I do not have HTML5 checked in the publishing settings. Thank you.

    Why did you put a button in the first place? What is its action?
    I am using Captivate for life presentations as well, and then I have sometimes staggered objects (text or others) that I want to appear when I'm clicking on a click box or a button. The action for that click box is then to Continue. Maybe you didn't create this file yourself and it was meant for presenting in that way? Check the action that is mentioned in the Actions accordion if you select that button or click box.
    When that first shape button (highlighted in yellow) is clicked playhead is released, because action is Continue, and the Image that is second from bottom up in the stack gets visible.
    If you don't use your button for anything, just select it and delete. If it has a goal, an action, tell me which one.

  • Animations on Captivate 6 when playing published SWF file

    Hi All
    I was wondering if someone could help me, I have created some E-learning content which incorporates some simple animation (text animation effects and motion paths on objects). Some of these animations mean that on the screen when I preview in a web browser, that an objects looks as if its coming from outside the canvas onto the canvas. Which is what I want.
    However when I publish to SWF its like the boundaries of the screen completely disappear and you can see the object outside the canvas, this doesn't happen in HTML.
    The problem I have is that some of the content I have input are not supported in HTML5.... so I really need the animations to work in the SWF file.
    Can anyone help or does anyone know what is causing this problem for me?!!!
    Thanks in advance guys!
    Natasha

  • In Captivate 8, how do I insert a text animation. It is grey scale and therefore can't be selected. I also want to use a "typing" effect.

    In Captivate 8, how do I insert a text animation. It is grey scale and therefore can't be selected. I want to use animation and also want to use a "typing" effect.

    Hi there
    What is your project type? Responsive? If so, that's why animation is disabled. Animations are usually built in Flash and Responsive output doesn't "do" Flash.
    Cheers... Rick

  • I want to publish a simple text animation transparent but keep getting a black background?

    I want to publish a simple text animation transparent but keep getting a black background?

    trouble is, it's not always that straight forward if the initial animation has not been set to a transparent background, as you cant simply change/update the poster.png
    What I mean is, if the poster has been saved as non transparent once, the only wayto update it,  is to physically open the file and make it transparent, even then it doesnt always work especially working with OAM's
    hope that also helps

  • How to export the text animation in Captivate and use it in Flash ?

    I have published the text animation as swf  and  tried to import it into flash as a movie clip but it does not seem to work.

    I have type the text " WELCOME"  font size 70 using  text animation and I want to use this as a movie clip in Flash.
    There is in the menu File ---> Export----> to CS5 Flash . This is not working for the animated text.
    I also tried publishing as swf  and import it into the library of  my Flash CS5.5 . This is not working as well.
    I have removed the video skining , which means no buttons so that it is less complicated .

  • Adobe Captivate 4 - Flash Movie with Text Animation

    I'm working on a project which has a slide which includes a Flash Video.
    I'd like to put a Text caption over the video.
    I've tried Text Caption and Text Animation.
    Neither of these work......
    Please let me know if there is some way to do this which I haven't considered or I need to adjust my settings.
    Thank you,
    David Gambal

    Unfortunately, that is not an option.   I work for a state government and the computers are locked down for security reasons.  Updates are handled by an IT group and pushed out to all state computers.  We were running Flash Player 10 and everything worked fine until the Flash Player Update was pushed out as a Microsoft Update on January 8th.  There have been subsequent "Security Updates" to the Flash Player pushed out via Microsoft and none have corrected the problem.  Even if I could uninstall the current Flash Player and install an older version, it would just be updated to the current Flash Player tonight.

  • Captivate 8 won't allow you to add text animation

    I'm using Captivate 8 and when I try to add a text animation the option in the toolbar under Text > Text Animation is subdued and impossible to select.  How do I animate text with Captivate 8??

    Hi Lily,
    Thanks for highlighting other items which are not supported in Responsive projects. For now we can consider that the features which are disabled(grayed out/Inactive) in UI for Responsive Project, are not available for Responsive Project.
    A quick list of features that are not supported:
    1) Features which are not supported for HTML5 output (Such as Text animation, Rollover Caption, Rollover Image, Rollover Slidelet).
    2) Line shape and free polygon.
    3) Drag and Drop Interaction.
    Thanks and Regards

  • How to remove a virus that is reported to be in the text animation files of Captivate 8

    The virus protection program ClamAV is reporting a virus Swf.Exploit.CVE_2014_0564-2 exploit. in several of the Captivate program files that are located in the programs/Adobe folder (some of the text animations swf files, interaction files, and widget files- there are several text animation files that are not infected). Here is an update on this issue. Maybe it will help someone else. After many months of working with Adobe support, they finally helped me to remove all viruses from my computer. This included Adobe Captivate cleaning up their Captivate 8 code and removing the Swf.Exploit.CVE_2014_0564-2 virus from their Captivate program files. As my research showed, the danger with this virus is that it seems to be dormant until a visit to a website that activates it and then it can destroy all your data (that terrified me when I read that and I made sure I had lots of backups in the Cloud). I got lucky and it did not get activated.
    As it turns out, it's not only the text animation files but also the widget animation files. Following is the final correspondence with Adobe. I hope the links work too.
    These are the fixed program files that Adobe uploaded for me to access https://www.dropbox.com/sh/cyelu2yvkc0f521/AADRYR3X0n3nM7lmIUNMQokWa?dl=0. However, do not use the "text animations folder", there was a little bug left and they sent me a replacement for the text animations here https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ymen27rrba75mc2/AABwsQjCmxdQHvkSx5Kjybo_a?dl=0
    These are the steps they had me take and it worked for me.
    Download and extract the SWF Animations from the TextAnimations folder
    Take a back-up of the old animations which are located at “<Captivate Installation Dir>\Gallery\TextAnimations\” and “<Captivate Installation Dir>\Gallery\Widgets\”
    Replace the existing animations with the new ones in the same folder
    Open your Captivate project and delete all the old animations which were inserted, and then close Captivate.
    Even though the animations have been deleted, Captivate still holds them as internal resources. Hence, the following tool must be run :
    Download and extract the files in the CCFix folder(Win 32-bit or Win 64-bit)
    Place AdobeCaptivateFix.exe, CleanResources.bat and CPProjectsNSlides.dll in the Installation folder of Captivate 8.1
    Run CleanResources.bat
    Captivate opens in a special mode, where you get a file browser.
    Choose the files to be fixed and proceed. The fixed cptx files will be placed in the same location as the original. A “_fixed” suffix is added to the new cptx.
    Captivate automatically exits after this.Your file is now fixed.
    Now open the fixed project and replace all the deleted text animations with the new ones.
    I scanned my computer with ClamWin again and it still found the virus. This time it was in the Captivate Cache. Maybe it was from fixing the old files. I deleted all Captivate Cache files and I no longer got a positive Swf.Exploit.CVE_2014_0564-2 found report from ClamWin. YIPPPIEEEEE!
    It took almost 200 hours of effort to repair infected files. What I don't understand is how Adobe can have a virus in their Captivate program files and then make us fix the infected files manually. I have asked them to write a program to fix infected files (how hard can that be to automate the steps they gave me?). I never got a response.  That seems really sad.

  • Publishing settings in Captivate 8, not the latest version of Flash player

    Hello all,
    It looks like the files I publish in Captivate 8 require me to get the latest version of Adobe Flash player.
    It seems like I can't set the flash player version in the publishing settings.
    From,
    Luke Low

    Hi Luke,
    For responsive project Swf publish is not possible so the Flash player option is not displayed, where as for Non-Responsive projects on the publish Dialog when you will click on SWF publish button you will get a flash player field. Use the field to select the target flash player for Swf playback.
    Thanks and Regards

  • After installing Cap 5 patch 5.0.2.630 can not insert a text animation

    I installed the 5.0 patch yesterday and today I cannot insert a text animation in my project. I have tried both Insert > Text Animation and Shift+Ctrl+X and nothing happens in either case. I seem to be able to insert everything else (at least the appropriate dialog boxes display). I was apprehensive about an upgrade during a project but did it because I hoped it would resolve some of the audio issues I am seeing.
    I do have a couple of text animations that were working fine since I started the project several months ago, now they work but in a halting sort of way. I thought maybe they had become corrupted and was going to delete and re-insert them but Captivate won't let me now that I have patched it.
    I have seen a number of people indicate that they gave up on text animations because they are pretty unpredictable for the end user of the published project - anyone feel otherwise?

    Following up regarding my bug report, in case this info is useful to others..
    Adobe contacted me via phone and, after we spent a considerable amount of time troubleshooting, the rep determined that my project was corrupted. Since the problems began after the patch was applied, it seemed reasonable to think that it somehow precipitated the issues, but the rep did not feel that was an accurate conclusion. I was concerned that I had now lost a lot of work because, even when I opened older backed up versions of the project, I encountered the same issues. The rep explained that there would not be a lot of rework because I could, in small batches, copy slides from the corrupted project to a new project (except for the Quiz review slide, which I needed to allow Captivate to create automatically in the new project). I was glad to hear this but unfortunately discovered (and the rep did not seem to expect) that not all of the project features copied. Most significantly, Master pages,  Advanced Actions, and object names did not copy over. Those all had to be recreated and reconfigured on the appropriate slides. So there was quite a lot of rework after all.
    Once the substantial rework was completed, I was still having numerous problems working in and running the published project (65 slides total, 3 FLVs). After digging through the forums some more, I decided to break up the project and try the Aggregator, which was a failure. The project would not run. Then I turned to the post about daisy-chaining (#3445696) and I have been able to get things working. I definitely wished I had tried the multi-project route much sooner, but hadn't seen any indication that 65 slides with 3 FLVs was too big of a project.
    Regarding the daisy-chaining: I was unable to get the projects to work by following the instructions to (1) use separate published project folders (2) use relative links to call the next project (3) ensure the folder was a trusted location in my Flash settings. Following these guidelines, the project did work when running on my C drive, but when I copied it to our network, it always threw up an error that it couldn't find the daisy-chained projects. I got it to work by scrapping the use of daisy chaining through the Publish End setting, putting all files in one folder, using a button on the last slide of each project to call the next project, and for the button action, using only the file name (not the relative path) of the project to launch.
    I hope some of this info can help someone else avoid frustration.

  • Problem: Animation publishing incorrectly, but working in Cp preview.

    Hi,
    I created an animation in Flash CS5 with some code in it (see below for the code). What the code does is it allows the user to play/pause the movie by pressing the spacebar. It allows that keyboard shortcut to be used on all slides except certain ones (in this case: slides 9, 13, and 15). I just need to drop this animation onto the first slide of my Cp project, and the function works throughout the rest of the project. When I hit F4 to preview, it works great, but when I publish it, it has problems: It won't work, for starters, but also, when I go to a slide, press the spacebar, and then go back to the previous slide, the play/pause button down on the playbar shows the 'play' icon (meaning the video should be paused), but the video continues to play. The play/pause button in the playbar and the keyboard shortcut do nothing. Keep in mind that it works perfectly when I 'F4' it, just not when I publish it and open the SWF. Usually when stuff works in Cp but not when published, its something in the publish settings that's the problem, but I can't find anything in there that would help. Plus, F4ing the project within Cp should factor in the publish settings. Just to be clear, all I need help with is making the published file work exactly like the F4 preview. The code is below, and thanks to anyone that can help.
    // Keyboard Shortcut: Play/Pause (Space)
    stage.addEventListener(KeyboardEvent.KEY_DOWN, keypressPause);
    function keypressPause(event:KeyboardEvent):void
        switch(event.keyCode)
                case Keyboard.SPACE :
                var myRoot:MovieClip = MovieClip(root);
                var mainmov:MovieClip = MovieClip(myRoot.parent.root);
                if (mainmov.cpInfoCurrentSlide != 9 &&
                    mainmov.cpInfoCurrentSlide != 13 &&
                    mainmov.cpInfoCurrentSlide != 15)
                        if (mainmov.rdcmndPause == 1)
                            {mainmov.rdcmndResume = 1;}
                            else
                            {mainmov.rdcmndPause = 1;}
                        break;

    The issue is the way the code is obtaining Captivate's main time line (mainmov).  When you F4 the movie, it's being loaded differently than when you F12 web preview... thus the main time line is obtained differently.  Here's a way to search for the main time line and the rest of the code:
    import flash.display.DisplayObject;
    import flash.display.DisplayObjectContainer;
    import flash.utils.describeType;
    import flash.display.MovieClip;
    var mainmov:MovieClip = findMainMovie();
    // Keyboard Shortcut: Play/Pause (Space)
    stage.addEventListener(KeyboardEvent.KEY_DOWN, keypressPause);
    function keypressPause(event:KeyboardEvent):void
        switch(event.keyCode)
                        case Keyboard.SPACE :
                        if (mainmov.cpInfoCurrentSlide != 9 &&
                                  mainmov.cpInfoCurrentSlide != 13 &&
                                  mainmov.cpInfoCurrentSlide != 15){
                                            if (mainmov.rdcmndPause == 1){
                                                      mainmov.rdcmndPause = 0;
                                                      mainmov.rdcmndResume = 1;
                                            }else{
                                                      mainmov.rdcmndPause = 1;
                                                      mainmov.rdcmndResume = 0;
                        break;
    //Returns the Captivate MainTimeLine
    function findMainMovie():MovieClip
              var cpMovie:MovieClip;
              //cpMovie = parent.parent.parent;
              cpMovie = findParentByType(this.parent, "CaptivateMainTimeline") as MovieClip;
              return cpMovie;
    //Iteratively finds a parent object by type
    function findParentByType(source:DisplayObject, parentType:String):DisplayObjectContainer {
              var currentTarget:DisplayObjectContainer = source.parent;
              while (currentTarget != null) {
                        if (describeType(currentTarget)[email protected](parentType) >= 0) return currentTarget;
                        currentTarget = currentTarget.parent;
              return null; // We're at the root
    The code to search for the main time line was gleaned from CpGears written by Whyves
    I'd encourage you to think about making this into a Captivate static widget using the CpGears framework or the WidgetFactory framework by Tristan Ward.  Either framework will make your life much easier.
    I usually set the two variables in tandem: rdcmndPause and rdcmndResume so that all variables stay in sync.
    When I dropped the animation into the Cp project, I had to set it to display for "rest of project" in order for it to work across all slides.
    Report back and let us know how it goes.

  • Text Animation Boxes--Help!

    Using Captivate 1.01.1418. When I publish to a swf, I have
    text entry animations... they appear doubled up--one right below
    the other. It's like a band that goes all the way across the screen
    at the point where the text is entered (if that makes sense). My IE
    version is 6.0.29, if that matters.... Any ideas??? Thanks.

    Hi again
    First, you may download a special Text Animation from the
    Captivate Exchange. This was created by fellow Adobe Community
    Expert Paul Dewhurst. You may visit the Captivate Exchange by
    clicking
    here.
    Secondly, you may file bug reports or request features by
