Captivate 5 TOC not working?

Hi all - I'm new to Captivate 5 so please go easy...
I added the TOC, turning off pages, but creating folders (checkbox checked) to show chapters in the TOC as opposed to individual pages.
Now with the "Navigation Enabled" checkbox selected, I was expecting to "jump" to any of these chapters in my TOC and play the captivate SWF from there... but it doesn't work!
Any ideas on why this is? Can anyone help?
Thanks

Welcome to our community
One of the more common issues with what you are seeing is that folks create Question slides and sprinkle them through the presentation. Perhaps slide 10, 20 and 30 are question slides. But folks also will configure the Quiz settings so that the questions MUST be answered before being allowed to proceed. And if this is the case, Captivate will disallow navigating to a slide beyond the first unanswered question.
Hopefully this will help you figure out why it appears to be failing.
Cheers... Rick

  • Captivate 5 not working with LMS when linking to AICC published file

When we publish and link our Captivate 4 files. Everything works fine. Now that we've upgraded and tried launching the Captivate 5 files. We only get a loading screen. Can someone help us? We provide training for over 10,000 employees and train several departments to use Captivate for our LMS, but now with Captivate 5 not working it brings up a big issue for us.

    another HotFix worked for me:
This is with reference to the issue you are facing with AICC courses on LMS.
Please follow the steps mentioned below and let me know if this solves the issue for you.
    1.       Close Captivate if already launched.
    2.       Navigate to Captivate installed folder ( For Ex : C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate 5)
    3.       Navigate to folder “Templates”
    4.       Open folder “Publish”
    5.       Open folder “AICC”
    6.       Rename the HTM file “default.htm” to “default_old.htm”.
    7.       Download the zip the file from https://acrobat.com/#d=rZv8-z9C0z4PPMpqjbkZIQ , Unzip the contents and copy the HTM file “default.htm”
    8.       Paste it inside “AICC” folder.
    9.       Launch Captivate and open the project.
    10.   Re-publish the project and upload the content to LMS.
Let me know if this solves the issue.

  • Play/Pause Button Captivate 3 not working properly

I am using Captivate 3, but my play/pause button is not working properly. I can publish and upload to my LMS, but when I click the pause button the first time the mode changes but the project keeps playing. I have to click two more times and then it works. Can anyone offer any assistance? Thanks so much!

    Hello @Unit_27 ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
Thank you for the information about your keyboard! I'll see what I can do to help
I think it would be a good idea to take apart the keyboard, or some of it, to determine if the keys are obstructed somehow. Some information on the supported method of cleaning the keyboard is mentioned in this document: Cleaning your Notebook PC
If this does not resolve the issue, I would reinstall Windows on the computer. The issue at this point would be software related, to some unknown extent. A recovery will address any software issue. First, make sure you backup everything you need to. Here is some information on how to do this: Backing Up Your Files
Once this is done, it is safe to reinstall the computer. Here is some additional information on how to do this properly: Performing an HP System Recovery
Please let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks and have a great day!

  • TOC not working in WebHelp - unwanted prefix appended

    Hi,
We are using RoboHelp for Word (8.2) to generate a multi-.hlp WinHelp project and then a WebHelp project from the same source. We have a master .cnt file that includes the .cnt files from all the .hlp files.
The WinHelp is working OK (except for the .shg problem that I have posted about many times before, but we've given up on that for the present).
Our current problem is that when we generate the WebHelp project, the TOC does not work except for the initial file (the one that the .hpj is named after and that appears when you open the project).
If you click on any other topic in the TOC, it doesn't work, although if you open the topic from the project's index or search tab, it works.
I can see what the problem is, but I don't know how to fix it. Here's a picture. I apologize for the fuzziness, but I think you can see in the circled area that the TOC link is looking for a file called program_programming_flowchart.htm. The actual name of the file is programming_flowchart.htm. Apparently RoboHelp is inserting a prefix that includes the name of the included .cnt file (in this case, program.cnt).
I found a place in RoboHelp (under Tools>> Options) that looks like it would control something like this, but the check box is not checked. I looked both in the main WebHelp project and in the original WinHelp sub-projects and it was not checked anywhere. Here it is:
Does anyone know how to stop this behavior?
    Thank you - Sandy

OK, for all five of you who are still using RoboHelp for Word - and the two of you (maybe) who are using RoboHelp for Word to generate WebHelp - here's what we eventually figured out, by trial and error:
When you generate WebHelp, you get to the following dialog:
If you click on the Advanced button you get to the following dialog:
The highlighted field, External Topics, needs to be set on "Retain." Best wishes - S.

  • CP5 and TOC not working on bottom half

Has anyone else experienced the TOC not opening half the pages listed?  I've looked at preferences and the skin and don't see any reason why the TOC won't open items listed on the bottom half of the page.  We've tried republishing it incase it was a gremlin but it still doesn't work.
The first halp opens the pages the second half of the listing light up like they are working but their associated pages still don't open.
    Susan

I don't see the option in TOC Settings that you refer to.  We are using CP5.
We've refreshed the TOC.  We've rebooted the computer.  It just won't play the last three options in the TOC.

  • 'Close Project' in Captivate 4 not working

    Hi,
I have a number of projects where I set the preferences to close the project, and it works in some and not others.
I have a slide with a 'Done' button.  When the user clicks it, it goes to another slide with nothing on it but the background and a text caption from the previous screen, and it is set for only one second.  Some of these projects close perfectly; others delete the text caption and leave the project open.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks, as always.

Hmmm, it was intended to show you that you simply cannot rely on the different means of closing the window. Close Project and the Exit button are essentially the same action, no? Perhaps I should amend the note so it specifically also mentions the action of Close Project.
The thing is, unless you are presenting your Captivat using EXE format, you are seeing a very generic overall issue with closing a browser window. And closing browser windows is inherently fraught with issues and seldom works as one would expect. The only way to make it work as you want most of the time is to ensure you always open the window using JavaScript so it's a child window. When you open in this manner you have more control over the behavior of the child window and can usually close it at will.

  • Interactive Captivate simulations not working correctly in Presenter

    Hi,
I'm looking for a fix for what appears to be a bug with
importing interactive Captivate 2.0.0 (build 1177, originally a
trial verson) files into Presenter 6.0.432 (in PowerPoint 2000 SP-3
9.0.8952 on a Windows XP computer).
The course works fine when I publish the Presenter file to My
Computer, but doesn't work correctly when I publish to Adobe
Connect (hosted version). What happens is that the interactive
Captivate simulations are already done. (It seems like Presenter is
somehow completing the simulations before the end user gets to
    those slides.)
Each course I've created is approximately 40 slides in length
with approximately eight Captivate demonstrations and eight
Captivate simulations spread out through the course. (A few slides
of content with voiceover, then a slide with a Captivate
demonstration, then a slide with a Captivate simulation slide, etc.
    etc.)
Captivate Project Preferences are set to:
    Advanced project compression
    508 compliance
    Compress compiled SWF file
    Publish Adobe Connect Enterprise metadata
    Captivate Publish settings are:
    (unchecked) Export HTML
    Flash Player 7
I tried switching the Flash Version to Flash Player 8, but it
didn't help at all, and instead caused an additional problem which
was that the text entry part of the interactive simulations stopped
    working altogether.
I'm inclined to think this is a problem with the Connect
server (since the course runs fine when published to My Computer,
just not when published to Adobe Connect), but suppose it could be
a Captivate or Presenter issue. In any case, I'm open to whatever
    gets it fixed.
    Thanks,
    Ruth

    Thanks Art,
I tried it, but it didn't help.
Given TechNote #46b77621 (recommending people link to
Captivate files rather than embed them in Presenter), and the
problems I'm having, I'm starting to wonder if this is a known
    problem.
If it is, it's a big one, as a major selling point of
Presenter has been that you can embed Captivate files within the
slides. Linking out to them would be a different experience for the
    end-user (and not as nice).
Another problem is that the TechNote says text entries won't
work in Captivate files embedded in Presenter (I have had some
inconsistent issues with this). Serious feature problem if it's
true. (As I'm sure you know, it's a very common aspect of computer
training courses, which is what many people are using
    Presenter/Captivate for.)
Hopefully this all gets sorted out sooner rather than later.
(Or you never know, perhaps, hopefully, there's just something I'm
    missing. :))
    Thanks,
    Ruth

  • Captivate is not working with VM?

    Hello,
today I tried to record some clicks and movements during
using Outlook on a virtual machine. I tried to capture menus or
moving emails per draganddrop to another folder.
But the problem is that Captivate isnt capturing anything,
only 2 sheets were recorded of a session with nearly 50 mouse
clicks?? So the recorded movie is only 5 seconds long but it should
    be like 5 minutes.
So what is the problem? Captivate is installed on the normal
os, outlook is part of the VM, maybe this is the problem??? But I
run the vm in window mode so it should work? But I have to use the
VM Outlook, the only thing I can change is to install Captivate on
the VM but is this the solution?

    > Note that while Captivate is way cool in offering the
    ability to sense
    > mouse
    > clicks and such, you may also tap the Print Screen key
    at any time to coax
    > Captivate into capturing the screen. So you may elect to
    simply press
    > Print
    > Screen at various points to grab what was missed
    earlier. For clicks and

    > you may also manually turn on Full Motion Recording
    (FMR) by using the F9

    >
True - but since it will not record things like auto captions
    "click the
Start button", or text entries, menus etc, I find it much
    more useful to
install Captivate to the VM. Depends on your needs ;-)

  • TOC not working in RH10 WebHelp with IE8

    Hi all,
My generated Webhelp results in TOC books that will not expand or collapse after navigating via the TOC.
It seems to work fine in Chrome, though.
    Any ideas/workarounds/fixes?
    Thx
    -Matt
    @mattrsullivan

I have just looked at this using an IE8 emulator and I can open a book in the RoboHelp Tour, click on a topic and it displays. Then I open another book and click on a topic, it displays. I can open and close books and select topics and everything works correctly including search.
John Daigle is with me and he has IE8 on a machine rather than an emulator and it is all working correctly there as well.
Everything is pointing to this being an issue with IE8 in your environment. Can you test from a machine in a different environment?

  • TOC not working on Android phone

    Hi all,
Just starting to experiment with creating an Android app version of our help.
We first created an HTML5 multi screen layout
Then using File | Generate menu we created an android app having downloaded various sdk etc.
App was then transferred to an Android phone running ICS and mostly worked except TOC doesn't show second level sub entries and shows a broken link icon on the app.
Anyone experienced anythng similar or know how to fix this?

Don't know on this one. Creating an app is on my list of things to do. I have prompted someone who may be able to help, not sure.

  • RH8 browse sequence based on TOC not working as expected

I have several standalone projects for which RoboHelp's browse sequence tool correctly generates the browse sequence based on the TOC using a book level of 0 (zero) so that it picks up everything in order.  If a project has books A and B (which are not themselves topics), and each book has two subtopics, A1, A2, B1, B2, the TOC-based browse sequence is A1, A2, B1, B2.  For a project I inherited (originally designed as 40 separate merged projects that I combined into a single .xpj project), "books" A and B for the example above are also topics.  When I generate the browse sequence based on the TOC using zero for the book level, instead of getting A, A1, A2, B, B1, B2, I get A, B, A1, A2, B1, B2.  The TOC runs through all 1st level items first, cycles back through all 2nd level item, then 3rd level, etc.  Has anyone seen this before?  Any ideas how to fix it?  Does the problem have anything to do with the fact that the "books" in this project are also "topics"?

Create a new TOC and make it a copy of the existing TOC.
Then remove the topics from the books and try again with the browse sequence.
I don't know that will fix it but it is what I would try first.

  • AIR output with merged TOCs not working

I want to create Adobe AIR application help (not Adobe AIR browser based help). I have setup the folders and inserted the merged table of contents into the parent project as defined in the Merged Help article.
What I am experiencing.... If I select the Output type as Adobe AIR application then there is no mergedProjects folder created. Should there be?
As a test, I also selected the output type as Browser Based help, I then get the mergedProjects folder. When I then compile my child projects to the respective child folder under the mergedProjects folder I get an string of Data > files folders. These folders have created a path so long that they can no longer be delected...because the recycle bin cannot handle the long path.
    Any suggestions are appreciated!

The Files and Data folders are what you get when you generate browser based AIR help and I have no idea how you have managed to get that setup. You will have to delete rather then recycle.
MergedProjects is unique to browser based help (WebHelp and AIR) so you should not get that folder with locally installed AIR help.
You refer to "the Merged Help article" but don't state which one. Are you talking about the topic in the help? Please state the title so that we know what you are working from.

  • .SWF that used to work on Captivate 4 not working on 5!

    Hi,
I have two .sfw files that used to work fine on Captivate 4 but won't work on Captivate 5.
One is a pause button, and the other is a video.
I only have the .swf files for both.
    Please help!
    Andressa

Captivate 5 does handle certain SWF files differently to Captivate 4.  These SWF files are usually ones that use nested symbols rather than having all animation on the main timeline.  The only way to fix the issue (that I know of) is to have access to the original source files used to create the SWFs and make changes there.  Sorry.
