Captivate 5 will not open/execute

I am running Captivate 5 as an admin on a 64bit version of Windows 7 (Ultimate N to be exact) with 8gb of ddr2 pc6400 on a core 2 duo e7400.
Nomatter what I've tried...I can not get captivate 5 to run.. it gets stuck at the splash screen loading... I only get one dialog box indicating that I should be running Captivate 5 as an admin, and that is about it. I own captivate 5 as a standalone, as a part of the Acrobat x Suite, and as a part of the elearning suite or Technical comm suite.. i have uninstalled and reinstalled the app 5 or more times removing preferences also, (with each of the various suites and or suites) to no avail....
Just for informational purposes I have CS4 and CS5 installed and both the elearning suite and tech comm suite.. alll my other abobe apps run fine.
Captivate used to work fine.. but it has been about 3 months since I have used it last.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

I think I'd first try ensuring your browsers have the latest Flash Player/Plug-In installed.
If that fails, try disconnecting any network cables.
Lastly, try temporarily disabling your Anti-virus software. You may need to add Captivate as an exclusion if disabling the Anti-virus helps.

    I've seen this question already, but there wasn't any working answer.
    When I launch Captivate, I get the warning box saying flash player "is not installed or its an older version" - with an OK button which just launches IE to get the player, and closes captivate...
    I had beta player 10.1, so obviously it isn't older - but still, I uninstalled it, got the version (10.0.45.2) on the adobe page captivate sent me too and... Captivate still will not work!
    I've unistalled the plugin twice, rebooted, checked the version and still Captivate will not launch...still the same message
    So how on earth can I even launch Captivate?? Do I really have to roll back to flash 9 or something?? I wouldn't mind, but I don't even use IE!
    Any help appreciated (esp. from Adobe!)

    I just ran into this problem with Captivate as well. I uninstalled Flash Player 10.1 by going here: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html
    I then downloaded an archived Flash Player here: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.html
    It seems the main installer does not incorporate the Active-X version of Flash that Internet Explorer needs. There should be several Windows installers in the download. For example, I used Flash Player 10. The following Windows files were in the package:
    •    flashplayer10r45_2_win.exe
    •    flashplayer10r45_2_winax.exe
    •    flashplayer10r45_2_win_sa.exe
    Install the first one and second. The second file is the Active-X Flash version (I’m thinking “winax” means Windows Active-X), which Captivate needs to run. I don’t think you need to install the last file (“win_sa”, I’m thinking the “sa” stands for stand-alone).

  • Captivate 4 will not open specific file

    Recently got a new PC. The IT guy who got it set up for me transferred all of the files on my hard drive over to the new one. I then installed Captivate 4 on the new PC.
    Now, I'm attempting to open one of the .cp files and it refuses to open. I see an indicator that the project is loading, but when the indicator fills, nothing happens. Captivate never actually opens the files. I am able to open other Captivate files on this drive, but of course this is the one I was in the midst of editing. I tried changing my .bak file to a .cp file, but same thing happens.
    I moved the file to a network location and a colleague attempted to open the file and she had no difficulty. So...I think all of my data is still there; I just can't get it open.
    Any suggestions?

    Captivate 4 was never approved for use with Windows 7, so it's not surprising you're having an issue.  I've known people (myself included) that were able to install and run Cp4 on a Win7 box, but others were unable to do the same.  I appears that not all Win7 installations are exactly the same and some allow Cp4 to work while others don't.
    You can of course try using some of the compatibility settings in Win7 to get Cp4 to work.  Try the ones that allow apps designed for WinXp.  That's your best bet. 
    If none of this ends up working for you, your next best option is to upgrade to a later version of Captivate.  Be warned though that Captivate 7 does not open Cp4 files.  So if you have a lot of legacy content in .cp file format, you'll need to upgrade them all to CPTX format by opening them in either Cp5, 5.5, or 6, before migrating them to Cp7.

    Does anyone know why my course will not open in a web browser. It's a pretty standards course. It's 800 X 600 with 73 slides that are all about 10 seconds long. It does have a few videos incorporated, but I removed them and published and I still got nothing in a web browser. Any ideas?

  • Captivate 8 will not open on my PC

    I have had Captivate 8 installed on my work PC for several weeks. I have not encountered any problems.
    At the start of the work day today - Captivate would not open. I have the icon pinned to my task bar and to my start menu. I have restarted my machine twice. Each time I click on the Captivate icon - I receive a spinning disk for a few seconds and then nothing happens.
    I have Windows 7, Captivate is 32 bit. I have 2 monitors on my PC. I am going to have to uninstall and reinstall the application?

    HI There,
    It could be an issue due to some corrupted or foreign fonts in your system:
    Can you try the following steps to ensure if that is the case at your end as well?
    1) Close Captivate and all other running applications.
    2) Go to C\Windows\Fonts -- Copy the "Fonts" folder and paste it on your desktop (to have a back up).
    3) Now, delete all fonts from "C\Windows\Fonts" directory, this would remove all fonts that are installed on your computer, it might prompt that certain fonts are necessary as applications are dependant upon them, so, skip these fonts.
    You would be left with a bunch of necessary fonts after this operation., Now, attempt to launch Captivate again.
    Note: Please make sure you keep a backup for all fonts on your desktop.

  • Adobe Captivate 7 will not open after successful installation

    After successful installtion of Captivate 7, I am unable to open/run the program.  The error message below is received when attempting to open the program.  I've installed/uninstalled the program twice both with the same results.  Any thoughts on why this is happening??
    My system details:
    Windows edition:  Windows 7 Enterprise SP 1
    Processor:  Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU
    Installed memory:  4.00 GB

    Did you install on the system itself, hopefully not on a networked drive? And is the default folder 'My Documents' on your system as well?
    Which version: 32-bit or 64-bit. 4GB of RAM and a Duo, I would recommend 32-bit really.
    Do you launch Captivate as an Administrator?

    Downloaded trial version of Captivate 7 32 Bit to a Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 3. Downloaded fine. When trying to launch program, It gives the screen and indicates Loading but never opens.  Any ideas?

    Welcome to Adobe Forums!
    I believe you might have installed some third party fonts on your computer. Go inside C:\WINDOWS\Fonts folder and copy and paste all the Fonts inside the Fonts folder(Create a Fonts folder on your desktop).
    Then try to delete all the fonts inside : C:\WINDOWS\Fonts. You might not be able to delete all the fonts but try to delete as many as possible.
    Then launch Captivate 7. If Captivate 7 launch successfully then you can place all the Fonts back from he backup fonts folder.

    I have recently installed Capt7 however it doesnt start properly.
    I run the program in administrator, it starts and runs through the preparation screens, launches a new window (blank) and then closes down without any warning messages.
    Windows 7 ultimate, 8GB RAM

    navigate to the directory where captivate was installed, right click captivate.exe>click 'run as administrator'.
    make sure your antivirus/antimalware and anything else that might shutdown a running program is suspended.

    It seems to be the fonts issue in your system. Try the below steps and see if it works for you:
    1. Close Captivate.
    2. Go to : C:\Windows\Fonts
    3. Copt the whole Fonts folder and paste it on your desktop (this is for backup of your fonts folder).
    4. Once you have take the backup of your Fonts folder then go back to C:\Windows\Fonts.
    5. Delete all the fonts you can.
    6. Once you have deleted the fonts then try to launch Captivate 8.
    7. If it launched correctly then try to copy back the fonts (say 50 fonts at a time) from the backup folder on your desktop and try to launch Captivate and see which fonts are causing the issue.
    Let me know if it works for you.

    I have a feeling this may have been asked before but here goes, I am using a Windows 7 64 bit OS laptop and JDeveloper will not open fpr me. I have tried setting it to Run as Administrator and compatibility mode for Windows XP SP 3 and neither of these help. I have very little knowledge of JDeveloper, all I do is use it to compile to an executable .jar file and then copy into the relevant environment. Could someone please let me know if there is a way to resolve this (without using Windows Virtual PC)? Please include step by step instructions, VERY much appreciated!!!

    Try invoking JDeveloper using the jdev.exe in the bin directory instead of the jdevw.exe to see a log of what the problem is.
    Also which JDK are you using?
    And also - why aren't you using the new JDeveloper 11g?

  • Preview will not open in Lion

    After up grading to Lion my Preview and TextEdit will not open.  So far I have:
    1. Followed instructions for removing a Symlink.  When in terminal to rm ~/Downloads, I get a message saying downloads is a directory and nothing happens.
    2. I have used Disk Utility to repair permissions.  Nothing happens.
    3. I have gone looking for my Library - for some reason it doesn't appear hidden on my system - but still do the Go>option key>Library and get info.
    My account says 'Read and Write'.
    4. I tried adding an account, but all it shows is "Fetching..."  Been Fetching for a couple hours now.
    5. When I login as a Guest, it works.
    Any suggestions since it is obvious Apple themselves don't care.  You would think after F!ing up peoples OS they could post a fix or issue an update.

    I managed to get mine working again by doing this.
    (the error log was saying a folder called containers was not available to write to)
    Open Terminal
    type
    sudo mkdir ~/Library/Containers
    You will need to enter your password to authorise the superuser command
    Then navigate to the Library folder by typing
    cd ~/Library
    then type
    sudo chmod 777 Containers
    enter your password again.... this second command changes the file permissions on containers to allow anyone to read/write/execute the folder
