Captivate 6 Audio

Hi-
I just published a Captivate 6 project to HTML5 only. I then uploaded the project to my website so it is delivered via web server. The output plays fine on my PC but when I test on my Ipad, the ausio doesn't play correctly, repeats and is out of synch. Here is the link to the project if anyone can help: http://www.insight-instructional-design.com/BOBJ_rpts082012ipad/index.html Password: Patti
I can send the cptx file if need be.
Thank you!!!

  • Help needed - Captivate 7 Audio not working in Safari/Chrome in html5

I think I am going slightly mad. For the life of me I can not get the audio to work in either Chrome or Safari (both versions are up to date) on an ipad and android tablet.
I have created a 1 slide project which just consists of a blank slide plus an audio mp3 file I have imported to the slide.  I have turned off all the button click sounds and not scaled the html.
I then publish to html5, uplaod it to my LMS and try and view it.  Works fine in IE on a desktop. But when I try and view it in Chrome and Safari there's no audio. In Chrome it seems to default to mute, so I unmute it but still nothing,  In Safari the mute button is not even there, even through it is enabled in the skin.
Anyone have any ideas as it's driving me mad?  Unfortunate thing is I downloaded Articulate storyline and after 10 mins I had uploaded a html 5 zip file and it working great on the ipad, with audio.

    Hi
Sorry to hear that you are having trouble with audio in Captivate's HTML5 output.
What LMS are you using? There are certain LMS that are known to have problem serving HTML5 content. Also, the content server inside the LMS can choose to send different responses based on the client being a desktop device or a mobile device.
What is the IOS version in the iPad? IOS6 is preferrable.
Can you please try the following?
    1. Instead of hosting the output in an LMS, try hosting the content in a local web server running on your machine. Mongoose is a quick and free option to try out (https://mongoose.googlecode.com/files/mongoose-tiny-4.1.exe) and then try accessing the same from iPad
    2. If that works, then we can start suspecting the LMS that you are using. If it still does not work, you can connect the iPad to a Mac machine's USB port. Launch Safari on the Mac machine. Make sure that the option to "Show Developer Menu" is turned on in Safari's preferences. From the develop menu, select the menu specific to the iPad device and webpage. You may have to open and close the develop menu in case your iPad is not listed in the menu. Once you select the iPad+page menu, a web-inspector window is opened. Open the console messages if not already open. Refresh the webpage in the iPad. Look at the console output messages in the web-inspector. Any errors or warnings encountered will be printed there. For example, network error messages might hint that the http request for the mp3 file was rejected by the server for some reason.
    3. If there are no messages in the console, audio does not play when published output is hosted in local webserver, then please share the published output. We can investigate why it does not work.
    Cheers

  • Captivate 4 audio editor not functioning

I've noticed lots of audio issues for Captivate 4 on the user
forums (many of which I've also had), but here's one I haven't seen
yet. I've managed to get the audio import and text-to-speech
features functioning correctly on my Vista 64-bit machine, but now
when I try to edit any of the audio files in my library using
Right-click > Edit in Captivate or the Edit button in the Slide
Properties > Audio dialog, the audio editor doesn't appear.
I am running Captivate 4 in administrator mode.
Another issue that I'm sure is related is I can't manipulate
the timing of the Closed Captioning. If I have four separate notes
on a slide, the last note displays in the Closed Caption window
during playback for the duration of the slide. Using the Closed
Captioning dialog doesn't help ... I can't preview the audio file,
and therefore I can't manually add captions at different points
during audio playback. This applies to both text-to-speech audio
files and imported audio files. Haven't tried yet with recorded
    audio.
A little background: in order to import or generate audio at
all, I had to run the regsvr32 NSAudio.dll fix mentioned elsewhere
in the forum. This worked on my Vista machine (though not on my XP
    machine after repeated tries).
In the forums and in my communications with Adobe staff I
haven't been able to find any rhyme or reason for the different
audio issues, and why the NSAudio.dll fix works in some cases and
not in others. Adobe Captivate team, can we get a patch or a
knowledge base article that addresses these issues??
    Please???

    Hi there
While the blog title mentions Windows XP, others have reported success by following what is outlined on Vista machines. Please give that a try.

  • Captivate 5: Audio is cut-off at the end of the published file

    Hi,
I'm using Captivate 5. I published my projects to Flash 10 (SWF/HTM) format and the audio is always cut-off at the end. For example, if my last slide has this audio "Thank you for time and have a good day.", what you will hear is only "Thank you for your ti" or "Thank you for your time and have". This only happens on the published file. The audio is not cut-off when you preview the project.
    Here are additional observations:
-> If I published with playback controls, the audio is cut-off the first time i view the output; however, the second time I view the output or if I drag the playhead, the audio is no longer cut-off. The timing of the elements (mouse, highlights, audio, etc.) is also way better when I view it the second time versus the first time.
-> If I published without playback controls, the audio is always cut-off no matter how many times I view the flash file.
-> I have tested publishing to Flash with different # of slides (10 slides, 50 slides, 100 slides) and the result is the same. So I don't think it has something to do with the number of slides.
    > Note also that the last slide has enough audio to match the slide's length. So I don't know why it's cut-off.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.
    Regards,
    Rose

  • Inserting PIP video into captivate demo - audio problems

    Hello,
I am using CP6 and have captured a 1 second demo then imported an FLV file into the demo as a PIP file.  It works fine except for some reason it has chopped 1.7 seconds off of the audio at the beginning of the demo:
Any help would greatly be appreciated
    thanks
    ali

There's a demo here: http://tv.adobe.com/watch/new-in-robohelp10-enterprise-productivity-features/robohelp-10-i ntegration-with-captivate-6/ I followed those instructions and got it to work. The trick is to use both SWF and HTML5 output when you insert the Captivate demo. That's what I wasn't doing. (Also, be sure to download the Captivate patch.)

  • Captivate 6 Audio not playing in preview

I have been inserting audio recordings into my Captivate 6 project slides with no problem. I inserted them, clicked play, and they worked. This morning, however, I found none of my audio would play when I click Play at the bottom of my Timeline. It will play from the slide audio window when I double click the audio. It will play when I click the Preview button under the Insert Menu. So why will it not play from the play bar under the timeline? Any Ideas?
    Thanks,
    Darin

    Hi there
When this happens to you next time, perhaps it would be helpful to double check a place you may have clicked and not realized it. Sure, clobbering the preferences nailed it, but that's a bit like using a bazooka to kill the fly in the room.
Too late now, but my guess is that this is what happened.
If you look at the Timeline area you should see a small speaker icon as shown below:
It's easy to click this and there isn't much of an indication you have muted the slide. My guess is that you managed to click this earlier. Too bad you had to clobber preferences to get it back.

  • Captivate 4 audio not playing in edit mode

In Captivate 4, if i try to playback a slide in the edit mode
(so i can time things that i want to add, like comment boxes etc.),
there is no sound. If i do a playback in the web format, it does
play the sound though, so i know that the sound did record. The
sound waves show in the edit mode, but there isn't any sound
    playing back.

    Hi John,
Welcome to our community. As matter of interest if you select
the audio file in the Library panel and then press the Play button
in the preview pane, do you hear the sound then? If it does, then
with the audio file still selected, click the Export button in the
Library panel toolbar and save the file to say your Desktop. Next,
delete the audio from the Library panel and then press F6 to import
the audio again. If the sound still won't play then please report
this issue to the Adobe Captivate team using the web address I have
    included below.

  • Captivate 4 Audio cuts out before end of slides

I have put my Captivate swf's in Presenter for publishing. Two issues. The scripts are truncated and the audio stops playing before the slide ends.  Are their character limits for audio?

This could be an iMovie problem. It seems to have its fair share of bugs.
Have you downloaded today's iMovie update?

  • Captivate 6, audio on slides randomly doesn't play

    Hi,
I am working in Captivate 6 adding closed captioning to files originally created in Captivate 5.5 by someone else. The audio will randomly not work on a slide or 2 in preview mode and when published (though it worked perfectly before from 5.5, but had no closed captioning). The odd thing is that it's not always the same slide in which the audio disappears, and that the audio will typically come back a slide or 2 later. It is a rather large file at 105 slides, and the issue starts occurring around slide 75. So I am wondering if splitting up the files might help? And I am not sure if this is an issue with closed captioning, Captivate 6, or both?
Publishing to Flash Player 9 as it's a linear presentation with no interaction.
Here are screenshots of the timeline and properties from a slide that the audio seems to frequently disappear:
    Any help/suggestions are appreciated.
    Angela

Your issue might be due to the audio getting out of synch with the slides.  Then at some point it has to wait to catch up.
Try this: Your screenshot of the slide timeline shows that the audio file is hard up against both ends of the slide. You need to create a small gap at the beginning and end of the audio file on each slide by just selecting the audio file and hitting the right arrow key twice move it to the right two frames, and then hit the left arrow key to move it back one frame.  This will give you a one tenth second pause at the beginning and end of the audio on that slide.  The end users will not detect the pause but because the gap is there, Captivate will think this piece of audio needs to be a separate clip.  Isolating the audio on each slide this way helps synchronisation of audio with slides.
In any project over a few dozen slides I would never recommend using a single large audio file with markers synched to each slide.  There are just too many different configurations of PC and browser out there that can cause playback to vary.

  • Captivate 7 - Audio overlapping - only in Citrix

    Hi everyone,
I have an odd one for you.  If we play a course in Citrix and press the forward button (on the slide, not the nav bar) quickly, it will start playing the audio on the next slide while still playing the audio from the previous slide.
This seems to occur when we play it from our Maestro LMS within a Citrix session.
    Any ideas?

  • Captivate 2 audio not showing up in Flash 8

    Hello,
I'm creating a project in flash where several captivate .swfs will be loaded into a loader component. I need the captivate .swfs to have a first frame stop(); action so that they won't play until the .swf is fully loaded. So I decided to export my Captivate projects to Flash 8 and add the action...everything comes to flash seamlessly except the audio. My narration audio exists in the library but not on the timeline. The audio for mouse clicks and key taps was automatically added to a layer in flash. Does anyone have any idea why?

Nobody has any ideas for this?

  • Captivate 6 - audio timing

I've created a captivate project with no audio and then recorded the audio stream separately.  The audio stream has been added to the project background and set to play once only but now I need to adjust the duration of the slides so that they are in sync.  I've been finding this incredibly difficult.  When previewing the project, any attempt to fast forward doesn't adjust the position of the audio track, it just restarts it.  Also, when working on a slide, the timeline pane doesn't show at what point in time the slide will play.  Is there any way to get round these defects?

    Hi there
You need to work differently, It's never a good idea to record the narration as a single long stream and try to use it as Background. You are witnessing just one reason why that's a bad idea.
I'd start by removing the background and then click slide 1 and choose Audio > Import to > Slide. Then point at that long audio clip. Once you have done this, Captivate should offer a dialog asking you how you wish to deal with the longer audio. Choose the option that allows you to split it across slides. Once you do that, you should then see a dialog that allows you to adjust where each segment should split.

  • Captivate 8 Audio delay and clipping

So I have started recording audio directly into Cap 8 slides just as I have done in previous versions.  But this time I am noticing that the audio seems to be "delayed" at the start and "clipped" at the end.  So if I record something that is 2 seconds,  It doesn't start until about .5 seconds in and the end of the audio which is silence has been clipped for me.  Even if I go in and put in a 1 second of silence on the end of the audio and save it when I come back it it is gone.
Does anyone know what is happening?  Thanks!

While I can't explain the delayed start, Captivate seems to have always "helpfully" removed silence at the beginning or the end of a clip.
When recording, it's helpful to record a couple of seconds of "room noise" or "white noise" before speaking. This gives you a bit of waveform to play with. You are then able to select some of it and paste it elsewhere. Perhaps at the end to pad it out.

  • Captivate 8: audio file doesn't work when I add it to an object slide

    Hi everyone,
I have problems with the audio in Captivate 8.  This doesn't work when I press an object slide (button) that has an audio file incorporated. This issue doesn't happen when I add sound to an individual slide.
I have tried to fix the problem by changing the preferences, but nothing
    Any suggestion is welcomed!!
    Evelyn

An audio file that is attached to an object or a slide, will play when that object or slide become visible. I don't know what you mean by 'has an audio file incorporated'? Do you mean that it is attached to the button in its audio part of the Properties, which is in the Options tab? In that case the audio will just play when that button gets visible, if it is at the start of a slide, audio will play at the start of that slide.
If you want an audio clip to play only when a button is clicked, you need to use an action 'Play audio', or make an audio object visible.
Audio Objects: Control them! - Captivate blog
Beware: if you do this with a simple action triggered by the button, the playhead will be released if that button has a pausing point.

  • Captivate 4 - audio editing issue (distortion heard once published)

Hi -- I am working on a 17 minute movie with audio on each page (total project size about 60mb).  I recorded the audio outside of Captivate and imported the .wav files (for some reason the .mp3s sounded too tinny).  When I started the project in November I had no problem editing the files (removing sighs/pauses, inserting silences) and adding to the slides.
For some reason in December I started running into issues.  I would go to edit a sound file on a slide, it sounded good when played back, but when I previewed or published the sound file I just edited it would have a layer of sound on top of it making it distorted.  Also, I no longer have the ability to add silence at the beginning and end of the audio file (which I was able to do in November).  I add it in edit mode, can see/hear the pause but when I save and close out those beginning and end silences disappear.
I just got final feedback and was making adjustments on two slides but the same thing happened.  The audio files I edited would sound distorted when played back in swf form.  The only way to save the project was for me to open an old archived version, export that audio, re-import to my production project and it worked fine.  But I cannot edit it in Captivate.  If I do, the distortion gets added.
I am publishing as audio quality: MP3, 96kpbs, 44.10 KHz.
Any thoughts?  I like to edit directly in Captivate and don't want to have to do the extra step of editing the audio in another application.
    Thanks!

    Hi there
If you want to add silence at either end, your first step will need to be to position the playhead ever so slightly away from the true end or beginning. Otherwise, Captivate ever so helpfully discards the silence. So the silence needs to be inserted between the ambient noise.
Actually, this is a nice segue into a technique you may wish to use. Select a section of the ambient noise and paste it repeatedly. This will eliminate the "dead air" you hear with total silence. Sometimes inserting silence is one of those - "the cure is worse than the disease" sort of things.

  • Captivate 7 Audio Edit button is greyed out

I recorded my first Captivate Demo on a slide and wanted to edit the audio. When I am on the slide, I can play the audio. But when I go to the Audio menu item, "Edit" is greyed out. What is this neophyte doing wrong?

    Hello again
Near as I can tell, you created a Demonstration, then clicked Insert > Recording Slide and selected Video Demo.
Because there is no audio on the slide itself (It's embedded in the video recording) Captivate doesn't know how to make edits to the audio.
Short of re-recording, I don't really have a suggestion, Perhaps others do.
